Yup. I knew who Ken Griffey was in the early to mid 90s and I didnt even watch much baseball as a kid. He was MLB most popular player by far, his popularity was comparable to Jordan in the US. You cant even compare the biggest MLB star right now to 25th best player in the NBA.
what are you saying? Conservatives are not dull. It got boring cause they banned steriods thats all. As a matter of fact, NBA got worse when they went Liberal. Soft calls and easy Technical made it worse.
There’s a lot of butthurt non African American Latino people in these comments and it’s true, black and Latino players always have flair and there’s always a white dude the next day saying “that’s not how you play the game”. Ex Tatis, Griffey, Batista…..
You could go back to when Jackie Robinson came into the game and how black players played differently than their white peers. It wasn't just the way they were on base paths but how they moved, how often they tried to steal, how Willie Mays would basket catch, etc.
The pitcher throws the ball, the batter tries to hit it, the fielders try to field the ball. Flair will not help in any of these things, so I don't even know why this is a topic.
I am not a big baseball fan but I can appreciate the coverage these guys give it. Most networks just cover the same teams and guys in the NFL and NBA. I would like to get into baseball but I feel like it is too slow for me personally.
To be honest im a fan of there being juiced balls, electronic sign stealing, and steroids. That would just increase scoring. I guarantee people would watch more if games resembled low scoring football games( 15-10, 12-9, etc.) don’t get me wrong pitching duels are cool every now and then but its hard to watch a 3 plus hour game with like ten hits. That’s a hit like every twenty minutes.

I'm Black and grew up playing and watching baseball, but it was the only sport where Black and Latino players essentially got a rock to the head for expressing their culture on the field.
They say ironically "White is right" but with all things there's a balance. Culture comes into play, it takes the black and White keys to make harmony in music!!
Yes latin-black players may have different cultural beliefs and daily practices but they're black, make no mistake...which is fine, it's great. Just like germans, french, english, and polish people are all caucasian. But bottom line, baseball does need to allow more flair, excitement, individuality, style, and entertainment in baseball.
Bout time the Padres are starting to get talked about they are the most fun team to watch in all of sports rn football basketball included it’s like a breath of fresh air no one hating and downing the players on every sports show just get to watch and enjoy the game even if they loose it’s still entertaining
Give me suggestions to market the game better I just wanna see some suggestions that aren't just commenting market the players better and it's not just marketing it's a much deeper issue.
@@mitchgoudreau7670 For example, the NBA is hugely popular because they crossover into different industries. There's a huge correlation between NBA and Hip-Hop music, so now the NBA has ties to the music (largely the hip-hop/urban) crowd and that brings in a ton of viewers. They're also big in pop culture (ex: Space Jam with MJ was a massive success, gatorade and nike commercials, the entire Air Jordan brand is now a global phenomenon and has been for decades) They do stuff that's more modern/relatable to younger audiences, and there are a ton of pages that are dedicated to how NBA players dress, and so now they're crossed over into the fashion world. That means more viewers and more markets. MLB needs to do something similar and cross into different markets and cater to the younger audiences. A lot of it has to do with the players being more fun and personable, use that to build a bigger social media presence cuz the world is mainly digital now. But its hard to do because everyone loses their mind when Tatis does a lil dance/stutter step before rounding 3rd on a home run. MLB The Show 21 has done a great job of crossing over, as numerous NBA stars mentioned how great it is.
@@TheMichaelN12 Thank you!! See these are the comments I wanna see not just market your players better. And yes Hip hop and the NBA are crossed over because hip hop is the new pop music and the NBA/NFL and pop culture have merged together over the years through movies, stars, and brands. And I agree MLB needs to let the players be themselves, build their social media to be more accessible and cross over to different industries. And with the Tatis dancing stuff, baseball was taught by fathers from generation to generation. They were all taught the unwritten rules to be respectful etc. That's how my grandfather, father and I were taught to play the game. Nobody ever told us a different or more acceptable way because it's been part of baseball for over a century. In reality what CC is saying is the other sports exposed how baseball has a professionalism mindset which is not what fits todays fun to watch athlete.
The game is already in trouble. Tatis has flair but has 20 errors. Can’t play Shortstop. Meanwhile Tim Anderson from the white Sox has 5 errors. That’s a shortstop. Bo bichette butchering the shortstop position. Harold Reynolds and mlb network won’t give the black players any publicity only Latino players. And most Latin players get a pass because they are Latin players. Yea I said it. Some can’t play. Fools hitting into shifts. Constantly! Tony Gwynn rolling in his grave… Catchers catching on one knee. Ricky Henderson would have a field day against these skips. The Game is in trouble and It’s MLB’s fault. It’s hard to watch.
@officialcpa They can’t block balls into the dirt consistently. There are more pass balls. They don’t catch the curveball correctly. The pitcher works harder. Because the catcher is jumping up and down. They don’t know how to frame a pitch for a strike. My son has wicked curve and change up that moves. I seen his high school one knee catcher get hit right in the chest pad more than once ,all strikes. 6A Texas Big boy baseball. The Vandy catcher is god awful with that one knee crap. They can do it know because hardly anyone steals anymore in the MLB. Ricky Henderson would have a field day on one knee catchers.
Chris is spot on about race and Rob is right about culture good convo around the world "black" usually means us black Americans even though racially we are the same as our diaspora brothers
Not really. There is a difference between American black and Dominican, puerto rica, Haitian, etc. that would be like saying American whites and Europeans are the same because they’re white. Obviously American whites probably have European descent just like American blacks probably have African or island descents but still. There’s a difference in your family being in America for hundreds of years versus your parents or grandparents just recently coming over. Not trying to divide any groups of ppl or anything but it’s just facts. Like I’m American black and when ppl ask me where I’m from I truly don’t know.

Actually I think both culture and race play a role in how many things are perceived in America. People see what you look like before they know what your culture is. Race can't be minimized especially in America.
Only why it's not a whole lot of African American players in the MLB Because it's no Ken Griffey jr. Another is that it won't be as not free on TV and a whole lot of black people do not want to watch baseball.
Black is an American term. No other country uses that to describe themselves. They may have African knotty hair but they don't consider themselves black or African. Americans consider black skin - black people.
The problem with baseball is the games take too dam long...after every pitch the guy has to walk out of the batters box...or the pitcher has to walk around the mound...also it's homerun or strike out....what happened to the hit and run..the bunt...stolen bases...and not to mention these awful umpires
I agree, let people make their own choices. Stop trying to get more black americans in the MLB. Clearly baseball isn’t cool to them so let them play whatever they want.
My cousin is John Shelby played in the 80's and 90's and played on the 1988 World Series team with the Dodgers. His sons are big and strong and very athletic. All played baseball and none made it to the Big Leagues. I don't know why but it can't because they weren't talented. Something is going on when a ex Baseball player has 5 sons all play the game and know how to play the game and not one of them can make it on a team? Something is up with that.
And yet 3 average at best players from the 90's and early 2000's have sons who are easily in the top 5 current players in MLB(Tatis, Acuna) and one a top 5 NFL player ( Mahomes), So no, nothings happening other than these Shelby kids obviously just weren't good enough.
Having fun in the dugout doesn't equate to excitement on the field for me the casual watcher. When i see any flair I'm almost certain he'll be hit by a pitch next time up. Thanks to dumb unwritten rules.
It’s sad that these “unwritten rules” seem to have been made under the guise of players being tough guys or something but in all reality it’s just because they’re emotional. And if you tell any of them that intentionally hitting someone is an emotional response, they’ll probably want to beat you up 😂😂😂 which, ironically enough, is just another emotional response lol
@@itshardtofindaname exactly lol it’s sorta sad honestly. I’ve never understood the concept of having to beat someone up for calling you a “b*tch” either…. Things like that are insecure, fake tough guys who feel like they have something to prove to the world. I completely agree with that being “emotional teenage girl” behavior 😂😂😂
Baseball grew when America was rural and the only media was radio baseball benefitted (since it favoured those things). Television, urbanization, and technology have led to baseball's demise irrespective of those other things.
I see a lot of comments about blacks not being interested, or there aren’t any baseball fields in the hood. I will see I kind of agree with the first part. Young blacks aren’t as interested in baseball because the game moves slow for a hood kid. Hood kids aren’t interested standing in the field waiting, actually hoping a ball gets hit to them. Or batting once everything 3 innings. Black kids like to run, move,. Baseball just isn’t that. As far as no fields being around? I absolutely disagree with that. Growing up in the 70’s and 80’s. My hood didn’t have a true baseball field. And, I’ve been to plenty of others at that time that didn’t have a true baseball field. But, we could a field of grass, whomever was batting we laid their gloves down as bases, and we marked a spot when there was a home run. We made due because we wanted to play. We had one bat. It was huge for use at the time, but we adjusted. We used tennis balls, baseball, raquetball, whatever, as the baseball. We were kids and just wanted to play. It’s the same as using a crate on a telephone pole as a basketball hoop. You find ways to play what you want to play. May not be pretty, but you make I do what it do. Bottom line is, for MOST kids that are between 8-12 years old, baseball is too slow of a game for a kid in the hood.
@@cal31BRIAN23 I don’t have to, some of them openly embraced their Afro roots. A lot don’t. The average Hispanic/Latino is mostly white Spaniard anyway and not Afro-Hispanic/Latino.

Showing fun and enthusiasm in baseball can bring people back. When I saw the Bautista bat flip a couple of years ago, I loved it. I grew up a Reds fan. The Big Red Machine were my team.
but the pitchers will be butthurt and their feewings will be hurt and will become emotionally unstable, we cant have that in this sport. Keep baseball the no fun league.
Willie the Phillie Montanez was the forerunner for being a hot dog and entertainer. He flipped the bat while walking up to the plate and for his flair when catching the ball at first.
So Harper says to make baseball fun yet boring baseball is the "white way". Got it! There are probably no black old time players that feel that way. It is certainly a black and white issue instead of an old and new one. I feel so educated today thanks guys lmao.
But the majority of the Latino players aren’t from the USA. So the % of latino population in America doesn’t have a direct correlation to the increase participation in baseball
Because baseball is inherently a more expensive and complex sport to play. You need a glove, a baseball, a bat, a good amount of space with bases and atleast 3 or more people to actually start a game. With basketball, you just need a ball, any kind of ball actually and a hoop out of anything. Why do you think soccer is the most popular sport in the world? You just need a ball and goal and pretty play by yourself. I think it comes down to simplicity and cost. But thats just my $.02.
Bad argument. If you can afford basketball shoes, you can afford baseball shoes. If you can afford a basketball, you can afford a baseball bat and ball. If you can go to the park to play basketball, you can go to the park to hit a ball with a couple of friends. And in school you can decide to play one sport or the other (or both). No one is not playing baseball because of the expense, but rather because baseball is not part of the local culture.
We always need to bring race into it dont we. I love what Fernando and the Padres are doing as a Dodger fan. It’s not a race thing, its a culture thing. I think of Madison Bumgarner yelling at Muncy when he admired his home run. The white guy yelling at a white guy because of the culture. Quit bringing race into stupid crap like this.
Thing is culture and race are concepts that can be intertwined along history, a lot or old school customs on baseball could be seen as tradition to white people because they got used to said customs but to minorities it would have seemed like a different issue maybe. I’m not sure exactly what “the black way” to play basketball is but I feel like it might have a lot to do with the AAU tournaments and stuff. New kids get famous from their high school clips every year so naturally that’s how kids try to play. They just want to make highlights. But a ton of those kids never go pro or are extremely underwhelming. Dennis Smith Jr. comes to mind. You still see “unathletic” Europeans like Luka and Jokic actually dominating in the league tho. So if I’m to assume “black” means low iq basketball that relies mostly on athleticism rather than skill and intangibles that contribute to winning, I’m gonna have to put the blame on the AAU circuit. The NBA doesn’t keep many of those guys so none of the pressure to “play black” is coming from the big league in my opinion
With the scouts not wanting to go to the inner city parks and recreation as well as high schools That's a big majority reason for the lack of blacks Even with the skilled players in the suburban schools Private schools if you will get scouted and drafted But one in eight may be in the show Remember there still is the good ol boy network amongst owners and GMs Scouts are outdated and antiquated with their philosophies They have that issue with charismatic blacks The reason its tolerated in the NFL and NBA is because blacks are a majority Imagine if the homeruns are led by blacks Base stealing is a lost art ⚾ although is the greatest Or one the greatest sport But its too boring Because there are no blacks
I have to give full credit to "The Chronicles of Judah 144" on this topic. On his patreon channel he went into full detail why there's a decline in Black participation in Baseball. It's because of the absence of the Father in the home. It all makes sense. How are we all introduced to the game? By our Dad, taking us outside showing us how to Catch, throw, and hit. It's a game of thinking, patience, and monotony. All characteristics of a Man. I was born in 87', all the men in my Family played the game (Dad, Grandads, Great Granddads, Uncles). Look at all the Black greats that played. They were all taught by their Dad. Ken Griffey jr., Darryl Strawberry, Barry Bonds. We have to get the Black Father back in the home, for much GREATER reasons, but also for Baseball. "Without Fathers, there is no Baseball, only Football & Basketball"- Diana Schaud.
Football and baseball are just more interesting. I don't think that it has anything to do with fathers. The ish is just boring after they took the steroids out. Judah makes some interesting points but he is sometimes a fanboy.
@@stonedecatur6602 I respectfully disagree. It has everything to do with your Dad. The game of Baseball is passed down from Father to Son. Black people dont play baseball anymore because it has been priced out the average person range. The equipment for baseball and hockey are far more expensive than sneakers for basketball; and football ball is so American based people pour millions of dollars into it helping to offset some of the parent cost.
That's only one part of it. Organized baseball as Rob calls it is known now as Travel ball and it has ruined the youth participation in the sport for not just black people but low income families in general. The cost that it takes to be able to have food, stay in motels, and fee you have to pay to go these tournaments is ridiculous on top of the overpriced equipment. Back when my dad played ball in the 60's and 70's all you needed was a hat, glove, and cleats. You were playing little league youth baseball until you got to high school not travel ball. It's become a gatekeeper sport for low income families in America especially when they can get Latin players for a much cheaper cost.
And also... Pple that are black and Latino have culture!!!! I'm not saying that white pple don't but if you can tell me what it is, I'd love to know! So I feel like they try to take away our culture while playing the game

CC is wrong. Blacks and Hispanics love baseball but blacks stopped playing baseball because there was no instant gratification or money right away, prestige. All my black friends stopped playing baseball when basketball and football became so $$$ dominant. That made scouts focus more on Latin countries. The AAU circuit at grassroots basketball is different and slightly corrupt. Baseball is clean and takes time to develop which I believe black youth and their family were not ready or willing to wait

MLB better embrace Tatis, Otahni and Harper. Because those three dudes can help bring people to the game. Also embrace teams just not "star" players. Look at Boban in the NBA, people love him. Iron head Heyward, George Mursean, Dikembe Mutombo, Refrigerator Perry, Vince Wilfork, Kyle Turley, BJ Raji, Bubba Smith, Too Tall Jones, Yasiel Puig, Muggsy Bogues, Ben Wallace and others I can't think of right now. That is when I stopped watching
Yeah lots of factors contributed to baseballs current problems....Race aint one em'. Continued cheating scandals with the sign stealers and the sticky stuff blowing up and moronic players obsessed with launch angle are 2 huge problems.
@@Ekim1740 taking the steroids out is liberal not conservative. Remember, Liberal means progressive.
Facts!

They say ironically "White is right" but with all things there's a balance. Culture comes into play, it takes the black and White keys to make harmony in music!!
Where does that leave Asians and Hispanics?
Yes latin-black players may have different cultural beliefs and daily practices but they're black, make no mistake...which is fine, it's great. Just like germans, french, english, and polish people are all caucasian. But bottom line, baseball does need to allow more flair, excitement, individuality, style, and entertainment in baseball.

Bro u can say what u want but if they don't market their players it's gonna just be regional
They're also big in pop culture (ex: Space Jam with MJ was a massive success, gatorade and nike commercials, the entire Air Jordan brand is now a global phenomenon and has been for decades)
They do stuff that's more modern/relatable to younger audiences, and there are a ton of pages that are dedicated to how NBA players dress, and so now they're crossed over into the fashion world.
There’s nothing to market. They got rid of all the fun.
@Idome Udo did you watch the game last night? Molina is done. It’s been a good run.
Respect The Odd Couple for talking about baseball. It has storylines that are worth following.
God forbid you have personality and emotion

You want to make it entertaining than let the players take steroids.
No. That will make many young kids using steroid.

MLB needs to let the players be themselves cc is correct
It's about jobs it's all about jobs
But the majority of the Latino players aren’t from the USA. So the % of latino population in America doesn’t have a direct correlation to the increase participation in baseball
Exactly
Because baseball is inherently a more expensive and complex sport to play. You need a glove, a baseball, a bat, a good amount of space with bases and atleast 3 or more people to actually start a game.
With basketball, you just need a ball, any kind of ball actually and a hoop out of anything. Why do you think soccer is the most popular sport in the world? You just need a ball and goal and pretty play by yourself. I think it comes down to simplicity and cost. But thats just my $.02.
Yea theres no expensive equipment required in football. And theirs zero complexity in learning offensive and defensive schemes in football.
There will always be racism because people keep talking about race, never wanna talk about individuals….
Thing is culture and race are concepts that can be intertwined along history, a lot or old school customs on baseball could be seen as tradition to white people because they got used to said customs but to minorities it would have seemed like a different issue maybe. Just like American white guys and hispanics feels a pressure to play basketball "in black way". That's why you don't see them much in NBA.
With the scouts not wanting to go to the inner city parks and recreation as well as high schools
That's a big majority reason for the lack of blacks
Even with the skilled players in the suburban schools
Private schools if you will get scouted and drafted
But one in eight may be in the show
Remember there still is the good ol boy network amongst owners and GMs
Scouts are outdated and antiquated with their philosophies
They have that issue with charismatic blacks
The reason its tolerated in the NFL and NBA is because blacks are a majority
Imagine if the homeruns are led by blacks
Base stealing is a lost art

Or one the greatest sport
But its too boring
Because there are no blacks

Oh great they’re coming after baseball now. By they I mean the “progress at all cost” types. They did the same thing to professional wrestling 15 years ago and we see how that turned out.
Baseball and hockey both need to be talked about more on the debate shows… it can’t always be about Lebron or cowboys .. the Suns and bucks are in the finals and they have topics about dak Prescott and Lebron , like why?? Lol
Because of ratings….Brady, Lebron, Cowboys…… these names drive ratings…that’s why most shows talk about the same topics all the time
It’s not many kids back in the hood that even have the access to play baseball for one…
"Black" is not a race or ethnicity it is a cooperate designation... You're father determines your ethnicity most "Black" people in the U.S. do not know there specific ethnicity so everyone is lumped in together go tell a Nigerian,Ghanian,Senagalese Person that they are "Black" there gonna laugh and give you there tribe name I am Burkinese-American my my ethnicity is Bushanga every person who looks similar to me is not my ethnicity we have no real culture in America that is why it's Constant Antipathy
Yup. Couldnt agree more.
So your not black if your from Cameroon or Columbia ? So ur just Latino ? So if you don’t eat soul food an aren’t born in the us u ain’t black ?
You did not vote for Biden, then you ain't black. 😁
Bruh they ain’t eating soul food now lol just saying what they think needs to be said to keep there black card lol
Not all the latino players are black though.
No if you're born in Cameroon you're African not black, and if you're born in Colombia you're South American. Or Colombian. Black isn't a race, it's just the color of your skin. It's like when a black person calls themself an African American, but you're only an African American if you were born in Africa and became an American citizen otherwise you're just African or just American. There are white Africans just so you know. It's a white guy that was born in Africa. The color of your skin doesn't matter when it comes to your nationality.
@@musicotensai of course there not but there’s literally people in South America an Europe that are black but just because they have a different language or dress an have different beliefs that they aren’t “black” like what ?
I’m from Montreal. Vlad Guerrero, Pedro Martinez and our great manager, Felipe Alou, were DEFINITELY Black. What the heck is Rob talking about ?
Yeah but Caribbean you're white I can clearly tell
Your confusing race with culture. When african Americans talk about black they mean black American culture, even though yes black Africans and black Hispanics are racially black they come from different cultural backgrounds. I dont expect white canadians to really understand the nuance of this issue, I'm Canadian too before you freak out and white canadian always have hard time understanding the nuances of cultural identities.
Ppl don't watch baseball very few
Selfies guy was marcel ozuna... we all know what happened to him
Rob is different, most blacks from Ny don’t look thru the same lens as other blacks in America. He can see Hakeem as black even though his culture is different than African Americans, but not the same as black Latino player who’s obviously of African descent,? What gives? A white from any country is label as white, but not the same of blacks from various countries.
I was thinking the same thing
I doubt white bb fans wanna see black and hispanic ppl doing dance celebrations they themselves cant do lol
Didn’t these mfs go to school Latino is not a damn race , us African Americans just had a different boat stop
The 90s and the steroid 💉💪era was the best baseball
The 80s were pretty exciting too! You had Doc Gooden, Daryl Strawberry, Bo Jackson, Ricky Henderson stealing bases left and right! 😁
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol of course it’s about race
@blinks stay fresh Homes if there were a black players league only you'd see a whole different gm being played. Wouldn't have all these dumb unwritten rules.
A couple of years ago didn't Rob Parker call TB the worst quarterback in the league? How tf does this guy have a job? Lol
Because he's right. Very talented teams, preferenal officiating, slanted media coverage, and great coaching have hidden his lack of greatness for 2 decades. He is a competitor though. But, trash nonetheless 🤷🏿♂️
They couldn’t include a modern day black baseball player for the thumbnail? It couldn’t be that sparse in the majors.
Ok so if Akeem black then then Spanish brothers are black. Their nationality is different. Their slave masters spoke spanish. Ok.
