    What is the sound of one hand clapping the empty space empty space is the fact that you do not have an opponent therefore you have no center you take the center and you blend with your opponent you become one with your opponent

    Thank you, May I ask what I should do when I attempt to take the center, and the opponent attacks as I still trying to make contact with their shinai? Do I hold center firm and let them Tsuki themselves jumping into my shinai?

      Imo, keep centre and let them tsuki themselves as this means: 1.you won't lose a point if in shiai; 2.you have an opportunity to strike as they will be shocked and freeze a bit; 3. They will learn that they need to have a better centre to be successful next time.

      Good question. What you explained (let them tsuki themselves) is called mukae-zuki. I don't recommend doing that all the time because then you will have a habit of "not doing anything". You always psychologically take the initiatives. When your opponent moves, you will strike. This is the mindset (sen).
      When you have that mindset, your body will start following your mindset. And you can develop "debana-waza". From there, you can start developing ōji-waza.
      Hope this helps!

      Thank you for your comment, DrDevilHell!
      ->>>> 1.you won't lose a point if in shiai;
      This is true only "as the datotsu is made, the attacker is checked at the upper front body by the tip of the recipient's shinai, who is in high spirits and in the right posture". You need to be in high spirits and in the right posture when you tsuki your opponent as he/she attacks you. You must be very careful with using tsuki against your opponent.
