Thank you very much. Everyone keeps reviewing the Max version, as if the majority is going to buy such an expensive laptop. Ive been waiting for a review for this one. Thank you.
I still think a MacBook Air is more than enough for most people. However, The base model MP 14-inch is the most perfect laptop for most people. Super bright, high quality display with 120hz, great speakers, 16GB of Unified, starting with 512GB SSD, and lots of power.
Just a side note for those who want to push the base model, it only has one fan so thermal throttling is possible. This applies to video editing, music production and heavy coding tasks, you are better off upgrading to the M4 Pro variants.
@recursion. Two, I'm pretty sure But again, the Air has zero fans and thermal throttles the moment you try to run anything advanced for over ten minutes So if you're just doing slightly above average tasks (which is what most people are doing), then one fan is going to help you perform these tasks
@ That's precisely why the test is relevant. People want a Macbook Pro for various specific use cases, and gaming is just one of them, so tests can show us which of the models perform adequately on games relative to our needs and budgets.
I was choosing between these 2 but that 120hz display and thinner bezel makes all the difference! Go for the MBP imo. Go try it out at your local apple or electronics store if they have them displayed.
I just bought a base 14 MBP with 1 TB SSD and nano texture screen. Hands down, it's the best laptop I've ever owned. Edit 11/23/24: not digging the Nano screen. Washed out and blurry. Probably going to refund my MBP and buy the glossy version.
I was thinking about getting a M3 MacBook Pro but then the M4 series were announced. I upgraded from the M1 Air Base to the M4 MacBook Pro Base because the upgrades from the M3 were enough to make me pick a base model MBP.
Yep, I am a web and mobile developer. I work for a consultancy company - so all of my web and mobile projects are large professional projects (not side projects). At the moment I only have 2019 Intel MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. Guess what, it does a pretty decent job! I can run VS Code, Xcode, and Android Studio whenever I need. I only started facing "storage full issues" recently when I also started to use PhotoShop and After Effects. Also, my colleagues use M-series MacBooks which can build much faster than my Intel MacBook. So I've preordered my first M-series MacBook! I'm pretty sure base M4 models will be a lot faster than my Intel MacBook!
Thank you very much! I am right now considering which Mac to buy. I am colleague student, I used my PC for photoshop/making vector maps/ also I want to try editing videos. It is not the most power needed tasks, but what I need is to have Mac for at least 5-6 years, so it lasts long. Therefore I am choosing between three models - M4 with 1TB SSD, M4 with 1TB SSD and 24 GB RAM, and also base M4Pro. I have been reading and watching lots of materials, saying that more RAM is better, and also I want to have more SSD, as I dont want to purchase outer SSD. Can you please advise me what to bur? Right now I am really trying to figure it out.
For what you described I think base M4 with 16GB of memory would see you through, even over the long term. Upgrading the storage would be nice so you don’t have to depend on external drives. So just stick to whatever fits within your budget. If you have an option to get a little extra storage AND a little extra memory, amazing! But 16 GB has allowed me to run all my professional video editing and graphics related programs with their base M4 and it’s all working great.
Great content, thanks for sharing, you gained a follower ! 'm about to buy a MacBook Pro, since my very old 2014 mbp is leaving me. I am a sound designer, but that's not my job in these days, but it has become more of an hobby/passion. I use DAWS, very CPU intensive mix and mastering plugins (and boy I don't want to freeze tracks anymore, please), I do some light 4k60fps video editing with FCP, and I may want to game a little and I would like to learn the basics of Blender. I would like to keep the computer for the next 7-8 years. Since my computer is very old I don't really GET the power of these new machines. I feel tho that the M4 Pro would be overkill for me, but still, I feel like I may need 24 gigs of RAM (maybe I'm wrong and it's too much) and I don't want anything that's beyond 1TB of storage. By adding ram and storage the difference with the M4 Pro is just 280 bucks. Should I go for the m4 pro, save the 280 bucks or go for the M4 and 16 gigs of RAM? An advice from you would be very helpful, thanks!
Thank you so much! Your video answered the exact question that I was asking myself. Most other RUclipsrs only show the M4Pro and M4Max models, finally someone took care of the base model! Left a subscription and thumbs up. ❤

Is it better to get M4 Pro as my skill could improve in the coming years, or the base M4 is more than enough? My career bath is in business
I think M4 base model would be perfect. The main reason to upgrade would be to have the thunderbolt 5 ports for future compatibility, but it’s possible (probable even) that you won’t be limited accessory wise by having “only” thunderbolt 4.
Great video; thank you! Does the nano-textcure reduce the brightness of the screen at all indoors? I've heard that some people prefer it, but you don't see any reduced visual quality indoors, right? thank you!
I wouldn’t say that it’s less bright indoors than a typical display. I would say it’s sort of like the difference between a glossy and a matte photograph. The nano texture has a bit of a matte effect, which may make it seem not as bright. If you have the opportunity to see I’m person before you buy I think it really comes down to taste/preference. I quite like it, but because it’s so different from what we are used to seeing I could see it not being everyone’s cup of tea.
I now have a Macbook Pro with M1 chip from 2020 (with touch bar). But I am doubting whether to upgrade to a Macbook Pro with M4pro chip 14inch. Would this make a big difference? I mainly use my current macbook for making RUclips videos
Interesting. Thanks for sharing your experience. The Pro Display is definitely better but when I’m on my Air it doesn’t bother me. And I really love how light the air is (especially when travelling). However I usually take the MBP when I’m on trips for the extra ports over the air.

And an option to add Nanotextured costing to the display. And within the M4 the option to upgrade to the Pro or Max so you could get Thunderbolt 4. And a significantly better camera.
