I'm 64 years old, have cut my whole life, live in a town that once had 5 mills and many hundreds of fallers in the area, subscribe to every trade magazine known to man, still study the art and science of cutting as well as everything related to it and... I have never seen a Bell (K6) grinder like that. I have a K6A (totally different from yours) that I bought new in I believe 1981 and used to have a Nielsen (don't remember the model) and still grind on my SDM4. Thought I'd seen everything, but apparently not. Kind of surprises me that the only chisel chain grinder available for the individual today is the Simington swing arm. Had one of those too but not nearly as accurate as the competition back when I had it. Gave it to an employee. Even at that price (free), he didn't much care for it. And on the topic of cutting in the wind, we finished a job on Tuesday at 11:00 that was over 7000' elevation on the crest of the Sierra with a storm coming in. Windiest day I've ever cut but at least consistent from the Southwest. Smashed 3 056's on one windy day back in the 80's. Ran out of saws and "had to go home". LOL A saw was $500 to $600 back then but I cut scale on contract and made more money than today. Love your products too. Your 500i clutch cover is a dream come true. Wish you made a foam air filter with rain cover that didn't leak around it's attachment fastener. Also, (just a thought) how about a kit to convert the M-tronic 661's to an adjustable carb. I have both saws and the M-tronics just sit in the shop. NOTHING has made them run right. Thanks for everything!
Yes you are right on the Bell they were very accurate and fast and built extremely well Grinder I am kinda goofy when it comes to grinders I love them and the way they work so I hunt high and low to find these sorts of things I think “from what I have been told” the K-6 was Engineered by Neilson and patented and somehow silvey got the patent from Nielsen Then Neilson sold out to Bell who tryed to make the K-6 and then Silvey sued then for patent infringement on the K-6 So I could be wrong but I thing the K6a was Bells attempt at going around the patent roadblock but it failed and they went out of Business The K-6 was not made for very long as far as I know “this is what I was told” The M-tronic saws have come a really long ways in the last few years Especially the 661 I would look into new carb solenoid
Hey Gordy, I’m interested in how you guys set up your pants with the chainsaw inserts. Think you could show us how you do that? Thanks, love your channel.
Awesome video Gordy!! SO glad to see you putting out your content!! You're products are amazing and so are you videos!! I have a 500i and I have everything you've made for this saw so I follow you closely to see what you come up with! Thank you!!👍🏻👍🏻
The old song says, "Don'tcha cut timber on a windy day, stay outa the breaks better listen to what I say". Even a little breeze messes with me. I'll say it again, you guys make it look easy, that's why I watch, study and learn, I'm retired so takin my time is just what I do.
like the grinder set up for the chain! I bought one of Stihl's grinders that hooks up to the truck battery and just buy according to the gauge and pitch. works decent. it has the degree guide on it, so you can keep the angle right.
We always fell on windy days just not on extra windy days. the prevailing wind is Sou west and it’s much faster with the wind helping. Just leave the hard leaners n get them after the shoveling the main bunch.
That’s the Bell K-6 I was telling you about the other day They must not have made it across the border I don’t think they made them for very long Donny
your the first person I've seen use the technique you do to keep a fallen tree from pinching your chain by plunging it in and out when you get towards the middle of the cut. I saw you do that in one other video also! I like that! great trick
thanks for the tip on Walker's saw shop, Gordy! Do you think the Stihl 262C can handle a 25" bar? I see you run the 36 on the 500i with no problem, and Stihl's website only goes to a 25 on it. Hard for me to make sense out of what their site when it comes to chains and chain guides?
Yes some timber fallers make great money I am not a timber faller full time I just help friends out that need a cutting partner all the stuff in my shop is from a lifetime of saving and hard work 👍
Great video Gordy!! I like those suspenders and appreciate the tip on tightening bar nuts down. I love the content please keep it coming. What type of roller are you running on the chain catcher on your 500i? It looked larger than the one from Stihl.
Im liking the new vids your putting out and i like your product i have 5 stihl saws and they all have about every thing you can put on saw from wcs on it
@@westcoastsaw1368 I saw one at an auction a few years back, it belonged to a saw shop that closed up, it had been used very little, as very few run square grind here. I wasn't very familiar with them and could not find any info on them at the time, so I bailed as the bids climbed. Yours is the only other one I have seen. I am glad you like it.
were those walker bars oiling ok? they both looked a bit burnt at the end of the day. sure hope walker didn't copy the crappy tsumura oiling holes, but they do look a bit on the tiny side in the video on the tailgate.
Bell chain grinders From the information I have gathered from people here and there they bought out a company called Nielsen back in the day and started making that grinder it’s called a K-6 somehow silvey got the Patent from Nielsen and later sued bell and put them out of business
I second this! Love the videos Gordy, I can't help but support and encourage a local hardworking small business owner who puts the time and work in to make his products better. Keep it up!
Just wanted to know is there a cover for the back of your saw I never saw that before just the air filter or is it made like that it sounds like she's got lots of snort lol
I learned this fact from a logger named rayyyy, ya don’t cut timber on a windy dayy!! Stay out of the wood when the moistures lowwwww or ya ain’t gonna live to collect yur dough. 🎸🎸🎸
i went to forestry school and i was tol by a older guy to take the stock long wrench and cut it in half and thats about all you need and at 19 years old ive been in the forest working for last 3 years with equipment and chainsaws i love it i might have to visit someday to maybe cut a big tree too i cut some times 40 inch trees with a 50 cc saw and 15 inch bar and they come down pretty easy
❤ Take care of those knees and backs! Wear some padding on your knees! Take it from someone who knows first hand! Once they are injured you are never the same!
I’m a green horn but is that a sugi hara bar Husky is selling them re branded Bet Donny has a line on them Love your videos And u have some great products on your site
I think they are coming from a different unnamed company. I'm glad there is someone else entering the fray. Not enough light bars floating around right now. They are probably "imported" but thats okay as long as they are GOOD.
Are the machined and ported by someone who knows as much as that westcoast Saw feller? ;-) Just a bark box won’t make them scream like that, although it does help.
I read that title and though "uh oh. They lost one and smooshed a saw like I did" Glad that wasnt the case :-D Awful hard to snag your saw out when the tree is falling 45* to your face cut.
There's something to be said, about a good honest day's work, side by side with a good friend. Battling through the work together. Nice work fellas!

I am kinda goofy when it comes to grinders I love them and the way they work so I hunt high and low to find these sorts of things
I think “from what I have been told” the K-6 was Engineered by Neilson and patented and somehow silvey got the patent from Nielsen
Then Neilson sold out to Bell who tryed to make the K-6 and then Silvey sued then for patent infringement on the K-6
So I could be wrong but I thing the K6a was Bells attempt at going around the patent roadblock but it failed and they went out of Business
The K-6 was not made for very long as far as I know “this is what I was told”
The M-tronic saws have come a really long ways in the last few years Especially the 661

WOW. thanks for sharing! I like that latest grinder shown..looks AWESOME and simple to use.
Thanks for taking the time to take us along Gordy...
You bet thanks for watching 👍
@@westcoastsaw1368 do you bend the bar for any reason during the cut?
Love the video. The star of the show was that square body dually with what sounded like a 12v 😍
@10:49 That saw sounds like a hotrod best sounding saw I've ever heard. Do you build them?
Man the sound of that 12v, such a rad truck
Liked the Video. Always learn new tricks everytime I watch, and couldn't be happier with everything I've bought at West Coast Saw.
Couple of nice looking trucks you got. That grinder is pretty slick too
Lookin good Gordy! Love the cuttin videos with Mike and those walker bars look bitchin too, can't forget the 500s and the square body cummins either

That's a pretty cool trick the way you scribed the jack height with your tape.
Yea learned that from buddy Michael in California
Sometimes it’s hard to see on certain species of bark but does work good when you can see it 👌

Yeah buddy! Getting after it!
What gauge chain u running? Thank u

The square body chev is sweet! Perfect for the 12v swap if that what u got going. I did it in my 93 crew cab f350
