  • I walk through how to create a new domain (cluster) for the OpenSearch service on the free tier of Amazon Web Services. I also show how to configure the domain so that you can connect to it from your local computer to build visualizations of sample datasets in OpenSearch Dashboards - the equivalent of a Kibana dashboard for an Elasticsearch Index.

Good stuff. Much better than going through AWS's docs. The only problem, though, is that when I went live and tried to upload my own data using OpenSearch Dashboards, it did not seem so intuitive. Apparently, the OpenSearch Dashboards interface forces you into uploading a sample dataset, but it is not so straightforward to understand how to upload your own data, which is a bummer, really. But thanks for the content.

@bobhaczs5914 Configured out of the box could be kinesis data streams ---> Kinesis Data Firehose --> OpenSearch. Also looking at the AWS documentation which is rough.

Nice video, I created a test instance, but forgot to do the settings for t3, now when I do these settings it says disable autotune but couldn't find the autotune option.. deleted the index and created a t3 micro instance..

I am facing a problem when importing my own data to OpenSearch. There no option to add any data just an index pattern.

They are based on the same codebase, but now ELK is closed source. Opensearch is a better long term choice imo.

Sure, run it locally on Kubernetes to test and learn, but which company that you will work at is gonna run their prod env from your local docker?
