I was living in Montreal when Gino first came on the scene in the early 70's. He was our hero!!! Scrawny little Montreal-Italian dude making it big! 35 years later, and he's still a major icon in the music world. I can't help but be proud of him. I still get goosebumps watching these older videos!
I wish I could go back not just for the wonderful music but the hot cars and my beautiful ex-wife and her gorgeous strawberry blonde hair feathered and those great outfits that women wore back then. Oh where the hell did the time go?????
Yes, I totally agree. It should've won out over " Street Life" for song of the year in 1979. Street Life was a good song but " I Just Wanna Stop" was better !!!
Gino Vanelli can sing, and his background singers are Phenomenal!!! The background singers are really lead singers playing the background, because there voices are so strong, soulful, and full of harmony! Classic song all the way around!!
This song come straight down from the doors of heaven. When the world was going crazy and stressful sickness hit us, this song had the answers to our cure.
Still a wonderful song to this day !! Amazing backing Band and singers. Gino Vanelli was an incredible singer, who was never given the credit he deserved.. This is REAL music - not like the garbage today, they call "music" ...
I remember entering my New HS back in 78/79 Not knowing not 1 person. I remember eating lunch by myself the 1st couple days. I had a Little Transitor radio to keep me company, Until this pretty Young Lady heard this song, She came over to talk, Humm she broke me out of ever being shy again. How a song can from the 70's & 80's can make you remember things that happened over 35 yrs ago...I wonder if the kids today will be able to do this even 10 yrs from now. The music today is TERRIBLE !
One of the most beautiful and romantic songs I've ever heard. It brings back cherished memories of that special girl you were with when you first heard this classic. Vannelli's voice is simply pure gold.
This is his best song, and I know his brother was involved. But years ago I had made a comment on this song, and the woman who sang background vocals actually commented back, and she was a little disgruntled that she didn't get the recognition she felt she deserved for making this song so beautiful, and successful. Anyone reading this comment, please check her out and lets all of us who like this song give her the credit due.
ABSOLUTELY. THE BEST . IN 2022...... AS TIMELESS NOW AS IT WAS THEN. .... 1979. I was 25 years of age, and had been listening to his Music for some time. He was, and still is, the Real Deal. Pure, ..... Powerful and Passionate Voice. No Auto Tune..... Perfection.
when i was a teenager i thought he was a black singer from hearin the radio version, i love dis damnnnnnnnnnnn song, my mom got me into oldies but goodies, i am now 36 makin 37 in few months, and by the way i taught my 14yr old daughter the classic songs, she love alot of them i am proud of her. love u gino
The first time I heard this song I was 8 years old at the time of my first trip to Charlotte, old school will never die, wonderful memories collected in my mind....Gino definetely a great musician
I listened to his music when I was just a child. My older sisters would always have his music on when they did their Saturday morning chores so they could go to the movies later. Those were great times! I love this man! Thank you for your music!
He touches a place in your soul... I really wish I would have had the pleasure of seeing him in concert over the years. I became a fan in late 70s when I was about 14. I still listen to the same timeless music of his today!
I totally agree with you in every single word, now, in September 2023 !! Once Gino Vannelli, always & forever Gino V., but unfortunately I never saw him in concert as well, only listened to the radio when I was a teen. Best regards from Vienna 🇦🇹!! 👋
I find this whole Show totally incredible. This 'Night' for me is the greatest Musical Night of the 20th Century. These 'Compositions', The 'Band', The Perfect 'Voice' in Perfect 'Delivery' by a True 'Showman' makes it "The Greatest Concert of all time" When we heard Gino in the mid 70's out here in South Africa we knew he was the Best and could not believe our ears. It was almost too much to comprehend. Loving Chord Sequences, I could not believe such GENIUS exsisted on the Planet.
As a metal fan who grew up in the 70's & 80's I find a severe dinstinction in what is produced/created and called music today. While I can say I have never been to a Gino concert I give much respect for his musicality, songwriting and earnestness to his craft. Nice job Gino and yes this is on my IPAD
I love this version and it is not in iTunes. I always come back here to listen it. I grew up listening to this version because my mom is Gino’s fan and I am so proud of it!!! The back vocals are the BEST!!!
since 1978 still one of my favorite songs. remember hearing this for the first time on the radio while stationed in camp casey korea. can never stop loving this song
Per me la canzone più bella di G.Vannelli, bravissimo interprete e musicista...quanti ricordi della mia giovinezza riaffiorano in me quando ascolto questo brano.
As a complete hard rock dude back in the good ole days, there was this, and this was good! I lived in Fairbanks, AK. When it was minus 40 degrees and driving down the road I'd just pull over and groove to this to be safe. My friends new nothing of this behavior!LOL Good ole Gino!! what a stud!
I was ONLY 8 when I first heard this song and though I were to young to know what it was to be in love...I knew he was singing about being in love and that I COULDN'T WAIT to FEEL that kind of LOVE!!! I remeber saying to myself;I love my Momma and Dad,my sisters and brothers,BUT this isn't that kind of love and I want to have that when I'm older...HaHa,still LOVE this song!!!
The following is a sad story. In the mid 1980s our school in NC had an exchange student from Norway. He visited my home from time to time. We talked about all the current music. He brought up one performer that stood out above all the rest. This was Gino Vannelli. I instantly knew he was right. I couldn't say why, but two teenage boys agreed that the best singer in our generation was a ballads singer and not singing the hard rock or pop or soul or other musical genres then so present. Gino's last major hit was even five plus years earlier and we were still saying these things. This exchange student shortly afterwards died (circumstances withheld). He was still in the US at the end of his life.
Very much looking forward to seeing him perform in Toronto on April 24, 2019!!! He is one of many Canadian gifts to the word!! I tear up every time I hear this song. It reminds me of a beautiful time in my life when I was living and working in Montreal. Thank you for coming to Toronto, Gino. Many Canadians and Montrealers are VERY proud of you!!
First time I ever heard a "live" version of the song and wow its great! What an amazing voice he had. I used to cruise in my Torino with the old 8 track playing his songs. Best years of my life.
yep,.. I have watched this video a hundred times or more prolly lol I never get tired of listening to his voice, the music, and of course uh hmmm HIM !! lol
I had a 100 collection of LPs in 1978 and a few was GINO VANNELI..."I want to Stop" is one of the top ten hit at that time..I'm still a fan of Gino VANNELI, maybe. forever, what ever....his songs are still in my mind...Giorgio Messina..and still listening to them...
I remember this song like it was yesterday.I had just graduated from high school in 1978. They use to play this on black radio stations and I just assume that the artist was black. Well, what do people say about (Assume). lol
They did that to us alot back then lol. Teena Marie, Madonna, Hall & Oates, Elton John, etc. My jaw is still dropped from finding out that 'Georgy Porgy' is Toto. Ill never get over that surprise! I had 0 doubt that it was a black band. I only found out a few yrs ago by accident on yt. That song has always stayed with me bc it was so sad. I felt so bad for the guy in the song. 💔
Me too! But no one can take Don Cornelius place! A thorough search would be needed to find someone half as close to him. Someone who loves the current music but still embraces music from the past.
I luv this song grew up in this era when music was music! I was just in Friendly's today and this song came on so I looked it up on my phone and now playing it in my car. I will have to add it to my music collection definitely I thank Gino and all artists for such great music 🎶.
GINO VANNELLI, is one of the "Great Crooners" in the Music business. I would go to see him in Concert any day of the week . He is still touring, Always has a great band backing him Up . I can´t believe that there are "humans" who don´t like this song. It´s real music!
That’s because they’re young kids and all they listen to is noise they don’t know anything else besides auto tune they don’t know real music
I was living in Montreal when Gino first came on the scene in the early 70's. He was our hero!!! Scrawny little Montreal-Italian dude making it big! 35 years later, and he's still a major icon in the music world. I can't help but be proud of him. I still get goosebumps watching these older videos!

Did they even know a little, what exactly they were giving to all of us as they performed this on stage. Wow!
