Abby Elliot was definitely underrated, this impression is spot on!
Abbey Elliot was brilliant on Snl & totally underrated.
Underrated and underutilized.

Harri Singh She asked to be let out of her contract. She was never that fond of sketch comedy and wanted to do more comedy acting.
@@shawnuel She broke up with Fred Armisen shortly before. It was either her or him to leave the show afterwards. SNL kept him, his talent, and his bonkers persona while Abby "asked to be let out of her contract". Kristen Wiig came along this same time too and pushed all of the ladies out of the spotlight. Nassim Pedrad essentially left over Wiig as well.
@@mrjoshd Pedrad left 1 or 2 seasons after Wiig. You may be correct about her reasons for leaving but I was just repeating what Elliot, herself, had said in an interview with Kelly Clarkson that I had seen moments before writing this comment.
I loved her, too. Very much missed.
She made a huge mistake not playing Alexis in Schitt's Creek.
Amazing impersonation! The voice was spot on, and Streep really does downplay herself a lot, to make herself look humble.
This is because Meryl is a humble person

I still don't get it why Abby was let go from the show. She was so talented! Ah so underrated.
I think she and Fred Armisen got into a relationship that ultimately went sour. Abby was either let go in favor of keeping Armisen or else she just quit because it felt awkward.
Sadly she got pigeonholed as "the impressionist." Sort of like what happened to Melissa Villasenor.
The impression was spot on because Merylle Streep's voice is like that and she always wins awards even if she appears to not even anticipated about it.
"I'm afraid to even look at them." & "I'm not worthy of anything." - if it weren't for the video I'd have really thought it was Meryl. That was spot on!

she is great at subtle inflection which cannot be overstated and SNL cast members need to work on Anthony Hopkins and Kylo Ren style (the actor not the dark lord) those guys are great at both comedy and drama because they understand subtle emotions like Abby does

@@mikhailabdurrachman2443 Not bad, better when impression was mimed only. My one reservation is that the NYT article offered video clips of scenes with Meryl making use of her glasses, each of which Mary based her impressions, so kinda too easy.
At first appeared that Mary was going to take issue with that obnoxious article, SO wish she had.

Her Rachel Maddow impression is incredible too. It's way better than what Cecily Strong attempted to do. When SNL stars do an impression of someone, they forget to take into account that they actually need to do an impression. At best, they dress up to look like their subject. That's the full extent of their talent.

This was a terrible impersonation. I felt she was forced to do many impressions on the show at the last moment, most of which she wasnt good at.
