robert glenn the younger generation thinks that our generation were made up of cavemen and cavewomen. Well put, carfreelori. Today, virtually all of my interpersonal connections are online, this due in part to retirement, dealing with post-polio and lack of resources to travel as I would otherwise wish. Even my two brothers, whenever contacting me, do so online. And one lives less than two miles. When my mother was in the late stages of passing, I was informed so online and same with her death, it came via email, a phone call coming only later. However, I've made some wonderful friends across the US as well as England, Spain, Sweden and Brazil, something that would have been impossible when I was living my state of the art old school days. It's rather sad that I haven't a clue who my neighbor is but have daily chats with a buddy in Spain! The kid upstairs devotes nearly 15 hours per day online. He leaves only to run necessary errands. What a shame. He is all of 24 and should be out and about discovering his world.
+robert glenn OK, certainly agreed, but look what a weath of fantastic music and movies is hidden in online chambers, only to be discovered by those with a curious mind... I know some 20 and 30 year old who "discovered" Led Zep this way. Unfortunately, they generally stop digging once they know a few big names, and can establish themselves as the one eyed king in the midst of their deaf dumb and blind colleagues of the same age. The internet allowed me to do from where I live (Antwerp Belgium) research in complete collections of 1950's music magazines on singer Sunny Gale etc. So, the cyber age certainly has a lot of cons, especially for those who knew the period before the TRS 80 & co., but it certainly also has a lot of advantages. People from different parts of the world communicating about their favorite music (even if you have to sift through a lot of mud) or disagreeing about it, sending each other links etc. But I agree, traveling each day in the commuter train from Antwerp to Brussels, it is really freaky: everyone bend over a blue screen or having headphones on etc. I'm not sure if it was very different in the 1970's: many commuters then were hiding behind their newspaper... It's rather a cultural thing: Flemish people (northern part of Belgium) is less talkative than the Walloons, who are living in the South. Much friendlier, more polite, even children, but of course let's not generalize. But having to hear about your mother's passing away through the computer... Frankly, that's "not done", that's in a chilling way rude and impolite... But that's the new mentality.... Look at some people dining together... with the mobile phone within reach.... And they're certainly not all doctors :)
Benoit Vanhees Excellent post. A wonderful read it is. You mentioned how technology separates humans from one another in any given age. I just now recall the myriad images I have of New York commuters riding the train into Manhattan, each of them shrouded from one another behind the New York Times, not one distinguishable face as all are hidden behind the headlines. Today, it's the same thing only high tech. The worst thing that ever happened to my family was the day dad brought home a TV stand with rollers. That night, he rolled it from the living room into the kitchen and dinner time was never the same.
The Faces might have "out-Stoned" The Stones if they'd lasted. they were cockier, better looking, had a tougher, tighter louder sound, wrote great songs, looked, sounded and played so incredibly British. It's tragic they didn't go on.
agreed on every point.. Ron Wood was great as part of the Faces. With the Stones he faded away, or could not assert himself. Rod Stewart was never better than with this band. Listen to 'the unlistenable teen pop "Young hearts beat free tonight'. then compare that to Maybe I'm Amazed'... its not even in the same universe.
Well, they never had a proper drummer and the songs weregreat but not the equal ofthe stones, also they got invoved with Sharon Osbournes dad, a terrible criminal and conman
@@jamesblonde2271 Actually it was The Small Faces who were with Don Arden. They parted ways with that thug when Marriott quit, before becoming The Faces, about the time Peter Grant quit Arden's agency and took the Yardbirds with him. Also, Kenny Jones was the drummer through it all and is still is a great drummer.
@@deanallen927 Kenny Jones is a bloody awful drummer, just ask Daltry and I'm very close with Jez Jones and even he wouldn't describe his dad as "great" accurate, yes, metronomic, perhaps but not inspired, not a swinger and not original. Boo, who you can see in the ichycoo park promo film, a band "friend" lives in Kentish town and to this day describes Kennys drumming as " he was a handsome boy".
Saw The Faces at their last US show ever, November 1, 1975 in Minneapolis...I also believe that was the last concert that they ever played as a group....Yes, I know that Tetsu had replace Ronnie for the last tour, so it wasn't technically The Faces. They knew it was their last concert, (they hinted at it several times) and tore the house down! I still count it as one of the greatest concerts that I've ever seen. At the end, Rod Stewart broke the mike stand over his knee and said "it's over". What I remember the most is the energy they all put into the concert...There was a lot of press about Rod taking over the band, but you couldn't see any animosity on stage. Just pure joy of a band who put everything into their last concert together. The funny thing is I didn't want to go to the concert. It was advertised as "Rod Stewart and Faces"...I knew of Rod Stewart but had never heard of Faces. A friend talked me into going with him. To this day we talk about that concert. An incredible band and experience.
God I loved The Faces. How good is Kenny Jones' drum sound? And Ronnie Lane's bass sounds the way a bass should sound. Saw them in Melbourne, Australia, in '74 (minus Ronnie Lane, RIP, unfortunately) and they were brilliant.
Setlist: 1.- "Three Button Hand Me Down" - 0:00 2.- "Maybe I'm Amazed" (Paul McCartney Cover) - 4:50 3.- "Too Much Woman (For A Henpecked Man)" (Ika & Tina Turner Cover)/"Street Fighting Man" (The Rolling Stones Cover) - 11:12 4.- "Miss Judy's Farm" - 17:46 5.- "Love In Vain" (Robert Johnson Cover) - 21:48 6.- "Stay With Me" - 29:21 7.- "(I Know) I'm Losing You" (The Temptations Cover) - 35:28 Lineup: Vocals - Rod Stewart Guitar - Ronnie Wood Bass - Ronnie Lane Drums - Kenney Jones Keyboards - Ian Mclagan
I know this is old, but I saw them at the Hollywood Bowl also. I remember the bar. I also remember Rod kicking soccer balls into the audience. I was front row because a friend of mine was in charge of the security and we could take any seats we wanted if they were empty. They called themselves "Peace Power". All bikers.
Ronnie Wood is great when he isn't in the mix with Keef R. Of course, The Stones ARE Keef and Ronnie, but its really nice to hear his tone and talent properly. and Ronnie Lane is the most underrated fella ever. Poor sod was broke most of his life. Then very ill. God rest his soul.
Yes, very sad. I am so glad that there are better treatments for MS these days. My sister has that and she's thankfully doing rather well. Not as mobile as she used to be, but hanging in there. I'm a child of the 70s and miss groups like this, Humble Pie, etc.
Now it's 65 as I watch again Harold....... ???? Who could not LOVE this classic low-down dirty raw rock n' roll, by fantastic musicians? I shake my head!!
***** Ha ha mind biz, I was commenting on the number of DISLIKES at 65, at the time I was watching this... that was what our conversation was about , how could people dislike this ?? That is all :))
@@mollyleblanc7443 A great time to be young. I remember going to quite a few concerts back then. Also places like Portobello Road on a Saturday then into a pub. Very simple back then. Glad I was about then.
ROD STEWART - Master Showman, Totally original vocalist. Must have thought all his Christmasses had come at once when he and Ron Wood inherited the best Rhythm Section in the business at the time - Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagen and Kenny Jones. Saw them twice in 1972 - first at The Hollywood Bowl, later at The Caird Hall, Dundee - Dundee was better!
Bobby G They also enjoyed their coke too with the exception of Kenny who never dabbed in drugs.. I just read Ian McLagans book,,,holy cow . I could not believe how much he spoke about how many drug they did. What tore this band apart was Rod Stewart. Ronnie Lane R.I.P never got to sing the songs he wrote and felt stiffed and was very unhappy. Rod recorded the best songs on his own albums. The rest is history.
kat Mats I agree with what you say about Ronnie Lane, I think they could have functioned perfectly as a four-piece with Plonk on lead vocals. It may have meant a reduction in showmanship without a standalone vocalist, but I don't think the music would have suffered.
Bobby G It would have been interesting if they would have stuck together and saw what came out of it. The Stones were eyeballing Wood at the time. Affectionately as you said Ronnie was called Plonk from The Small Faces days. Poor Ronnie and Steve Marriott with all the unpaid royalties lives would have been a better one . Seems Mac and Kenny did alright. To this day they are still going after what is owed somewhere around L10 Million and L15 Million. As far as Rod~~~~ I own Gasoline Alley and that is it. Never been a big fan of him once he left Faces. I have read although that he helped out Plonk with his medical bills along with Pete Townsend. Pete helped a great many brothers in a pinch. An unsaid hero. Good to have a conversation with ya.
All out swaggering balls deluxe rock n roll r n b that confirms all the truisms about a truly great band . Better than indivudual members, transcendent in their saintliness and their calling as the rock n roll band that is too funky to be a bunch of English white boys. Staggeringly awe inspiring.
I saw them with Humble Pie. They were incredible. Rods finest hour, what a incredible showman. Between them and the Pie, I don't think many or were still the whole show. I would have loved to seen Rod & Ronnie when they played for Beck.
@@johncrowell6030 Humble Pie played at Lincoln as well.Dont think Stevie and Rod got on very well, the ego thing about the best vice obvs, but also they both had a thing with PP Arnold, which was an issue i think.
And band is only as good as it's Drummer. (more or less) And the Faces had a terrific drummer. Add Ronnie Lane's melodic and quirky bass lines and you have a home run. Add melodic B-3 organ to the mix, and it gets metaphysical. Put on Ron Wood's gut sprinkled, artistry on lead guitar and power chords-and this singer with the rooster-haircut named Rod, -- and watch out!
Riff Digger Amen, bro! I saw these guys back in the day and they are still one of the greatest rock n' roll bands I've ever experienced. Hotter than the hubs of hell live!!
+Riff Digger Always thought of Kenny Jones as the guy who couldn't possibly fill Keith Moon's shoes. But, seeing this video, I finally realize why they chose him for that impossible duty. He might not be Keith Moon, but he's right up there with Mitch Mitchell, John Bonham, Ginger Baker, Charlie Watts and the rest.
a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, Rod Stewart was badass. The Faces gave the Stones a kickin' at their own game with this one. And that's the reason why Ron Wood got dragged for the Rolling Stones. Self-explained.
I didn't know rod Stewart made '' real music '' before the 80's! I really enjoy this band i'm discovering thanks youtube. Hope it will give me other good references like that !
Ronnie is the new Apollo in my bass pantheon (Willie Dixon is still Zeus). I need to design a super-cool Ronnie Lane T-shirt to help the world remember, what a happy, cool dude he was.
Kenny Jones on drums. Saw the 1st show he did with The Who when he replaced Keith. It was a perfect small theatre called The Capital Theatre. Know what city & state? Hold the "you were too fvcked up to know where you were" jokes. Just testing ol' Gaytube here.
My granny is 84 this year. She always said Rod Stewart has the best voice. She said she has never thought of him as good looking. ( yea right lol ) She just adores his voice. She loves this man. She loves whatever he does. He makes her shine. She sings along. Its beautiful, man. I personally cherish his stuff with the Faces. Just .. mmm.. wowza! The entire band was far-out! But he was a good looker in those days I gotta say . My Granny's favorite indeed. Bless.
Man has a sensational voice. God gave him a gift. Not sure I find him good looking. Saw him with his family on TV. Looks so different to other male relatives. We can keep a young attitude if we want it bad enough.
I prefer the grungier, boozier, saloon singer Rod Stewart to the bleached blonde, blow-dried, shiny pants singer he quickly morphed into early on in his solo career. It's hard to realize they are the same person.
Astonishingly great performers...I am ashamed to admit I've never had a great appreciation for Rod Stewart. This earlier Faces stuff is changing how I think of him. Damn.
Dragon13Loco Yes, this is the best of the best re Rod Stewart; I have a theory that he was advised to tone down his highly expressive side in the 80's but the truth is his absolute best performing came when he felt totally free to express in his way, which included a bit of connection to the softer, feminine side; I"m saying this was really, really good, and I would have loved to see where The Faces, with Rod Stewart, could have evolved to had they stayed together! I think Rod Stewart looks more happy in these performances than in some others even though they were still stellar. The best advice I would have given him, if I were his manager, would have been; don't reign in that expressive side because people are drawn in by that kind of authenticity. Know who you are, be who you are and don't change that if someone thinks it's wrong, because often time tells that you were right and they were wrong.
I know, sigh... But Ronnie was bloody good... I saw them... a long time ago... can’t remember which album but Rod was rocking a pink satin suit, they were definitely feeling very jolly, and were brilliant... a couple of songs ended differently than when they started, but the crowd ate it up. Certainly a one of a kind band...
I'm not a musician but it sounds to me like everything is turned up so loud its creating a fuzzy sound like his amp speakers may burst at any moment (in a good way).
@@neilwhitaker6284 combination of amps, the pre amp gain just overdriving a bit, and his picking technique, and Ronnie used a pick which really gave a lot of attack to the sound, most bass players used their fingers which gave a softer fuller sound ... Personally I think he had one of the greatest bass sounds ever, that swampy, falling down the stairs kind fo thing, fitted the Faces perfectly
I grew up with 80's rod stewart.had no idea he rocked like this til I was waaaay older.i am soooo glad I got a heads up from a buddy who said "man, rod used to rock hard back in the day!".to me tho, ronnie lane is the absolute highlight of the faces.one of the best bassists of all time in my book and a helluva songwriter, too!
For me, still one of the big "if"s of rock history. If they had made it to our time without the split, they would have been definitely one of the immortals like the Stones. If...
"Too Much Woman (For A Henpecked Man)" (Ika & Tina Turner Cover)/"Street Fighting Man" (The Rolling Stones Cover)".... just an excellent version... blows me away....
I absolutely Adored the Small Faces - when Steve Marriott left I was devastated! When Rod Stewart came along to join the best rhythm section of the times, Ronnie, Kenny, and Mac he must have thought all his Christmasses came at once! I saw Rod and the Faces with Ron Wood live twice in 1972/73. Once at the Hollywood Bowl, then again at the Caird Hall, Dundee. Ronnie Lane was the beautiful soul who was the basis of both amazing bands.
Much comment on this video about "The Best work Ronnie Wood Did" . Many seem to think his OK but not great guitar playing (save the slide work) here Qualifies. BUT>>> To real aficionadoes of this guy, his BEST WORK, BAR NONE, was as Jeff Beck's Bassist on TRUTH and BECK-OLA. Take it form an old hand who has done his best to copy Wood's Raw and driving playing on those albums. LISTEN CLOSELY TO WOOD"S BASS WORK ESp. the Bass Breaks on 'Spanish Boots' and 'Rice Pudding' and it will make you cry, even 45 years later.
Faces is a true super group. Rod is among best rock vocalists ever, Ron Wood for fuck's sake, Ronnie Lane--a total genius (check his solo work and 'Rough Mix' album w/ Pete Townsend), Kenny Jones who was logical choice to 'replace' Keith Moon and Ian McClagan, maybe best rock keyboardist along with Nikky Hopkins. Wow, just wow.
Totally Agree. Especially about Nicky Hopkins. Very underrated and for the most part sadly forgotten. A life long battle with Crohn's Disease kept him from joining any groups long term, just mostly a very in demand studio musician. Nicky played on a lot of Rolling Stones songs and they wanted him to join the group, but health problems prevent that and he died at only 50.
Their cover of "(I Know) I'm Losing You" is particularly outstanding. Kenney Jones' groove throughout the song and drum solo prove that he is a wicked underrated drummer.
I wish I had that guitar ronny wood sounded great I wasn't even born but I grew up on great music thanks to a couple in prodjectes eddie lori little feat, molly hatchet, led zep, molly hatchet, triumph, supertramp, nrbq, the band ,three dog night, steve miller, hendrix, choir, free, frampton, clapton, stones, muddy waters, bukka white.albino bros edgar and johnny winter ,outlaws, marshall tucker band, lester spencer tracy band, blind faith, james gang, eagles, buffaloa springfeild, crosby stills nash, ted nugent, zappa, too many great memories love all those great bands
that's when he could sing spends more time off stage in our days going to 02 this year last time 800.00 yes 800.00 for decent ticket for an old leftie he should know better I think I have bought enough of his houses not bad life doing covers now do something about ticket prices 2016
One of the ALL TIME BEST BANDS to ever play together ,write their own music & preform live EVER!!!!!! saw them live in Detroit every gig they did here, and there fairwell concert in 75' was unreal!!!
Rod Stewart has been top notch throughout his career; but time tells that some of his absolute best performances came when he was with The Faces! They had wonderful chemistry as a band, and Rod Stewart seems so happy to be performing with them; this is some of his most expressive work. Sometime, in the 80's it almost seems like someone told him to tone down his exuberance, and if so, time also tells that this was the wrong advice. There's no doubt that he's succeeded as a celebrity musician and the world knows how talented he's always been, but it's sad that he didn't get to stay with The Faces throughout his entire career because I just think these guys were perfect together. I've been a fan of Rod Stewart's throughout his MTV days to the present time, but I definitely appreciate these early performances, his more exuberant side, his ability to even get in touch with his feminine side (that's a compliment, not a criticism; we all have masculine and feminine within us); I like his personality in his early performances and interviews a lot even though I love all of his years as a celebrity musician.
p.s. I realize one band member went to the Rolling Stones, but I think The Faces would have been like the Rolling Stones in longevity had they stayed together.
He and Ron felt they took the band as far as it could go. As to his voice, he had thyroid cancer and they cut his vocal cords as part of surgery. Thus, he's an octave lower.
Rest In Peace Ian....once we felt eternal when we were all young...Thank God we got rocknroll to keep our souls young till we pass away..We will remember you man...Sad day today :-(
I can remember iwe all had the Rod Stewart Ronnie Wood Rooster hairstyles in the 2000's and ran like a gang of artful dodgers misbehaving, breaking hearts and getting hearts broken. The Faces were a breath of fresh air from the hippie stoner music of the period, they had STYLE. Style that still looks current today, and the music still holds up too. To me this is the pinnacle of anything that Rod and Ronnie did subsequently
sundar mann yes, they really had great balance and cohesion; Rod Stewart, as lead, was nothing like Eddie Van Halen who kind of had to be center of attention all the time! lol. Rod Stewart knew how to be one of a team; he was a really nice guy it seems to me.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the Mick Taylor years and Get Your Ya Ya's Out, but DAMN Ronnie Wood sounded like the perfect fit for pairing with Keith even back in '72. Ronnie Wood sounds like he was born to be a Rolling Stone so it's cosmic justice he finally made it into the group after Taylor.
Real music by real people, amazing! In the end, they don't get any realer than Ronnie Lane... the bass playing on Maybe I'm Amazed is exceptional, although the whole band is awesome on this rendition. The Faces (and they were known as The Faces by 1970) were at their peak during this period. RIP Ronnie Lane!
@Ronnie Wood Woody if that’s really you, I am honored and thrilled. I was 13 yo when this video was shot and I had just purchased “A Nod Is A Wink...”and I was hooked. 50 years on and still hooked. Without question FACES are the four nicest people in Rock. I mean that sincerely . I wish you all Gods love and peace. From Ohio, thanks for the memories.
Those were the days! Where we read NME Melody Maker, to name but a few, to find out out about new stuff. We watched shows and not the latest WhatsApp news. Beside that, great show by a great band.
Ronnie Lane played the Bass like a real man. IMO very similar to Jamerson, the way he would snake around. Another underrated great bassist is Greg Ridley from Humble Pie. Woody wanted to be a Stone, but man he was better as his own boss.
RONNIE LANE-SORELY MISSED! VERY UNDRRTAED. As a bass player he felt he was ok. To me he's up there with the best. His bas held the small and faces together as commented below..he was the GLUE brothers & sisters
I am forever grateful to my H.S. girlfriend who turned me on to Faces back in the day. Forty six years later any Faces tune will light up my day and I think of her. Thanks Pam, where ever you are. Great f'in music.

@@deanallen927 Also Seve was a horrible junkie and Ian was the mosttalented musician in the group.
60 yrs. old & I'll NEVER tire of Rod Stewart's vocals. So kool to see the early, classic show w/the Faces. Thanks for posting.
Mr geht es genau so. Bin 62 Jahre. Rod & Ron.Perfekt.
Was at that show. Correct on all counts. They brought the road crew out on stage for the encore.
Farout.
Was that the show at the old Labor Temple?
God I loved The Faces. How good is Kenny Jones' drum sound? And Ronnie Lane's bass sounds the way a bass should sound. Saw them in Melbourne, Australia, in '74 (minus Ronnie Lane, RIP, unfortunately) and they were brilliant.

The Faces always looked like they were having a great time on stage esp Rod and Ronnie, would have loved to see them live . Great band.
The pinnacle of Rod's career.
Depends what career you mean.
Depends which Rod you're talking about!? Rock Rod...Disco Rod...Old Man Rod.
Or Rod the God.
When I saw the Faces at The Hollywood Bowl they actually had a BAR onstage! Complete with a barman! Real Rock an' Roll excess
Saw the same show back in the day, in New Orleans. Same bar! I’m surprised that no one ripped that off. Lmao!
Same show in Minneapolis. It was so cool. True Rock Star Status!
Same show in my mind and on this they call RUclips 😂😹😂
Rock on!!🎸🥁 ✌
Thanks 4 posting this Sir!!
I know this is old, but I saw them at the Hollywood Bowl also. I remember the bar. I also remember Rod kicking soccer balls into the audience. I was front row because a friend of mine was in charge of the security and we could take any seats we wanted if they were empty. They called themselves "Peace Power". All bikers.
@@ronelliott87 Todd Rundgren did the same with a tour known as With A Twist back in 97
Ronnie Wood is great when he isn't in the mix with Keef R.
Is it just me or does this video get better and better the more you listen and watch. And what's up the 61 (as of 01/01/14) that did not like this.
Now it's 65 as I watch again Harold....... ????

@@mollyleblanc7443 A great time to be young. I remember going to quite a few concerts back then. Also places like Portobello Road on a Saturday then into a pub. Very simple back then. Glad I was about then.
I agree, I mean I still believe that the 70’s were the best decade of music period. All of these greats were just getting started. We are so lucky.
Ronnie Lane was so good, listen to that bass..
Five Guys Left A Bar & Walked Onto A RnR Stage...the rest is history.
I miss these boys.
Yes, they did like a beer or two, I have been led to believe.
Stevie Marriott God bless him was the hottest live show singer in rock history bar none.
Rods voice sounded like tweed amp... incredible
All out swaggering balls deluxe rock n roll r n b that confirms all the truisms about a truly great band . Better than indivudual members, transcendent in their saintliness and their calling as the rock n roll band that is too funky to be a bunch of English white boys. Staggeringly awe inspiring.
R.I.P. Ian
Your keyboard sound, continue to rock 'n' roll forever.
Indeed.
I saw this band twice in 72, at the lincoln festival and Reading, and for me ,for a couple of years they were the best live band in the world
saw them around the same time. opened for savoy brown. man, they tore the house down.
I saw them in Reading too. Great band then
I saw them with Humble Pie.

Great comments, guys!
+Jim Mitchell And how could I forget Ian Paice and Bill Ward?
+Jim Mitchell... Kenney Jones is very underrated...His playing on The Who's "WHO"S LAST" is tastefully great...
a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, Rod Stewart was badass.
Hope it will give me other good references like that !
for me the greatest line up of a good time rock n roll band ever

Be glad both The Stones & The Faces existed....neither better, both brilliant. Silly to compare greatness....just appreciate.
ProblemChimp you are right except that I would have loved to see The Faces have the same longevity as the Stones.
The Faces were good enough to shine the Stones' shoes.

I have a huge bass man-crush on Ronnie Lane. He played and sang with such obvious unbridled joy.
Can't say I had really ever listened to them before but...Wow! I am blown away by his bass playing/sound!
Listen to Debri
Great man.
Ronnie is the new Apollo in my bass pantheon (Willie Dixon is still Zeus). I need to design a super-cool Ronnie Lane T-shirt to help the world remember, what a happy, cool dude he was.
Hung like a horse too. What's not to like ? 😂😂😂
Kenny Jones on drums. Saw the 1st show he did with The Who when he replaced Keith. It was a perfect small theatre called The Capital Theatre. Know what city & state? Hold the "you were too fvcked up to know where you were" jokes. Just testing ol' Gaytube here.
I love that ratty sound. I''m glad bands here in the 21st century still see the value in it.
Amen brother.
@Ronnie Wood Your sound and style are heavenly. It’s not all in electronics. Even acoustically that sound and style come through perfectly.
Bless.
I love him also.....and the best looking!
Rod has a fantastic voice & he is SO HOT 🔥My father in law reminds me SO much of Rod.
Man has a sensational voice. God gave him a gift. Not sure I find him good looking. Saw him with his family on TV. Looks so different to other male relatives. We can keep a young attitude if we want it bad enough.

Oh God I love these guys so much it brings a tear to my eyes..pure rock and roll glory.
I prefer the grungier, boozier, saloon singer Rod Stewart to the bleached blonde, blow-dried, shiny pants singer he quickly morphed into early on in his solo career. It's hard to realize they are the same person.
Andrew Dugas I think anyone with musical taste would agree. I liked Rods later 70s and 80s stuff. It doesn't hold a candle to his earlier stuff

Rod Stewart is iconic. Tons of airplay over the years.

I totally agree
"I'm Losing You"...Holy Mother of God!
What A Band :) ( The Faces ) Rod Steward At His Best.
Loved them around this time. When Rod was still a singer in a rock and roll band..
That is some absolutely superb melodic bass playing from Lane - brilliant
Super, melodic playing from Ronnie...Beautiful Indeed
This is seriously the best forty minutes of rock'n'roll captured on TV ever. It's just that good.
Agreed
Lovin Ronnie Lane's bass sound... real soupy, vibey groove.... so under rated..
OMG...Underrated seems the most popular word on youtube...
Maybe life is underrated....
Agreed on Ronnie's sound here. He's up nice and greasy in the mix and clearly having a blast.
Tight but loose... and kicking total ass.
Pure unadulterated bliss. I miss those times. Stunning music, historic performances. Thank you for this.

"Too Much Woman (For A Henpecked Man)" (Ika & Tina Turner Cover)/"Street Fighting Man" (The Rolling Stones Cover)".... just an excellent version... blows me away....
So much groove and soul on that one, real rock n roll
Best funky blues version of McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed. Paul's version is too pop, this has more soul.

The "coolest" Rock & Roll band ever. Ronnie Lane ringleader extraordinare
The Black Keys and White Stripes and Black Crows Brought me BACK HERE to THE FACES!!!!
61 dislikes? Ok, it got my attention. Now just go away.
A Rock and Roll lesson for many bands through time ...
Thank you God! This is Rock and Roll, the way it was meant to be.
Dan Rice Yeah, technically speaking they were a supergroup. Stewart and Wood was in Jeff Beck group, the rest of course were Small Faces
Hogwash. Faces was an average band with a few good songs. Stewart did better when he left them.
Don't forget Billy Powell, keyboardist for Lynyrd Skynyrd! Also...Billy Preston
Faces were great because of the chemistry, not their musical expertise per say imo Gordo! And their influence on others
35:05 TURN IT ALL THE WAY UP !!!

One of the ALL TIME BEST BANDS to ever play together ,write their own music & preform live EVER!!!!!! saw them live in Detroit every gig they did here, and there fairwell concert in 75' was unreal!!!
I heard they used to play some wild shows there.they loved detroit from what I gather.

It's a Rug.
Now he changed a little ;)
The Faces in tune, sober and Rod taking it seriously -- can't be beat!
Stay with Me - one of the greatest, raunchiest guitar riffs of all time. What a band!
Ian McLagan is one of the greatest keyboardists in rock history. Absolutely fantastic performance!!! This band was so fucking great!
Thank you faces, my brother had unkind words for you way back when an I missed out on you cause I believed BIB bro! Never again! You're GREAT!✨🎭
I can remember iwe all had the Rod Stewart Ronnie Wood Rooster hairstyles in the 2000's and ran like a gang of artful dodgers misbehaving, breaking hearts and getting hearts broken. The Faces were a breath of fresh air from the hippie stoner music of the period, they had STYLE. Style that still looks current today, and the music still holds up too. To me this is the pinnacle of anything that Rod and Ronnie did subsequently
Ron wood is under rated but appreciated enough to be a Stone
Now thats what I'll call a real band!!
Playing without pretense.But to themselves.
sundar mann yes, they really had great balance and cohesion; Rod Stewart, as lead, was nothing like Eddie Van Halen who kind of had to be center of attention all the time! lol. Rod Stewart knew how to be one of a team; he was a really nice guy it seems to me.
Always loved Rod and the Stones and Ron wood has always kicked ass.
Ronnie Wood....crazy ass sob......& one of the best!
They were great as they never took it too seriously.......they seemed like they were having fun
Those were the days! Where we read NME Melody Maker, to name but a few, to find out out about new stuff. We watched shows and not the latest WhatsApp news. Beside that, great show by a great band.
P.S. While I say that Ronnie Lane was the soul of the band, the best keyboard sound of his generation came from the amazing IAN McLAGEN
Lane is playing some kind of Burns-Baldwin, or what?
Ronnie Lane played the Bass like a real man. IMO very similar to Jamerson, the way he would snake around. Another underrated great bassist is Greg Ridley from Humble Pie. Woody wanted to be a Stone, but man he was better as his own boss.
Jesus. My dad was like turning 12 the day this concert was filmed :) And now I'm watching it on youtube :) What a time to be alive
Me too, Young Man! Good taste you have.
On par with the best of the best rock n roll bands.
RONNIE LANE-SORELY MISSED! VERY UNDRRTAED. As a bass player he felt he was ok. To me he's up there with the best. His bas held the small and faces together as commented below..he was the GLUE brothers & sisters
