I've tried to get off booze at least a dozen times since my early 20's. I'm 33 now. This time, it seems to be sticking; I'm on day 82 now and this is the longest I've gone without a drink since I was 15.
@@GettingSoberAgain I'm moving to a much nicer apartment in a downtown neighbourhood I've never lived in before! Now that I don't drink anymore, spending an extra $200/mo to live in a building that's actually clean, modern and well maintained isn't a big thing for me. The whole vibe of the new place is much better; even the dogs that live there look happier! I'm also going back to university for a BFA program in September. I seriously doubt I would be able to accomplish this much if I were still actively drinking.

It's embarrassing the amount of times I said I was going to quit drinking over the past year. Definitely well over 50...but here we go again..another week trying to start off on the right foot. My next post will be when I hit my 1 week mark!
I'm almost 2 weeks sobor myself and its been a long 23 years of drinking everyday. Staying focused on today and keeping myself busy has helped. I have tried several times staring when I turned 40. @@jeremiahjohnson1664 I'll be 40 in July. I wasted enough time and money in my 20s and 30s on drugs and alcohol. Time to put that same time into better things instead of wasting it away.
Finally made it a week. Moved to Atlanta from Florida last weekend and decided it was time to make it finally stick. Already dropped 10lbs of bloat and feeling great. The next big test will be when I get back to work and not letting the stress get me off the good path.

I've failed more times tha I've succeeded when I've said to myself that I was not going to drink for a day...or a week...or whatever after a binge. However, Ive been pretty successful if I've taken the time to prepare for it. I've gone a full month a handful of times and 4 months last year was the longest. I've never committed to quitting for good but I'm 11 days sober...again after a really long binge and I don't think I can keep drinking anymore. Better yet, I don't want to.

I've lost track of the amount of times I've said "this is it" or "one last time" or "after the weekend" or whatever other lie I've told myself. I'm nearly 31 and have been "trying" to quit for the last 5+ years. I started drinking at 17 (late to the party, some may say) and already by 19 I was taking breaks and knowing it was an issue. The next decade was a blur and now I'm trying to start over again. It's hard dropping an entire identity and life I've built around drinking. I've been trying for years and I know it will lead to a much more rewarding life, but I've only glimpsed that. The longest I've gone is 30ish days a handful of times but I always use that benchmark as an excuse to go back in. But most times its a few days or a week or two at most. Anyways, thanks for reading and thanks for the content. It's helpful to have a voice like yours out there.
You sound just like I was 4 years ago. I would binge drink, then go a week or 2 sober, then another week bing drinking. I had to come clean to my spouse about just how heavily I was drinking. I wish you strength courage and focus!

I've tried to get sober at least 6 times in that period. I am finally on the right track and have close to 2 months sober this time and going strong. This channel really has helped with that. It has taken a complete 180 of my lifestyle and dedication to my decisions. It takes me chasing my sobriety like I chased that next drink. I guess thats all I got. But for the grace of god go I...
