  • In this video, I unbox and review my just acquired Asus ROG Strix RTX 3080 Ti Model graphics card. I test 1440P and 4K in a lot of the latest games, benchmark the card through Time Spy And Port Royal, and talk about my thoughts on the card compared to my recently review EVGA RTX 3080 Ti FTW3 Ultra graphics card.
    The CPU being used is an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X CPU on a MSI X570 MAG ACE Motherboard cooled with by a Corsair H115 iPRO Capillex AIO water cooler, with 32 GB OF G.Skill PC3200 CL14 Dual Rank Memory, EVGA 1,000 Watt Platinum certified PSU, and the monitor used an an Asus ROG Strix 170 HZ Monitor. All benchmarks and gaming tests were run on the latest build of Windows 11. I had to disable HDR for this video as my editing software wasn't properly supporting it for some reason.
    Overall I will say this very powerful and solid graphics card, it has really good load temperatures (between 73C-76C load) and it is noticeable cooler than my EVGA RTX 3080 Ti which ran as high as 83C in some games, it could be possible I got a bad card that just runs hotter than it should, but this Asus ROG Strix model runs noticeable cooler at same overclock levels.
    My only 2 complaints with this card are the slightly louder coil whine in some games, (could just my particular card though, as my 3080 Strix does not have the same amount of coil whine), but it was more noticeably louder then the EVGA 3080Ti, and of course the price being $2,000, which is a whole lot of money for a LHR GPU compared to the EVGA models $1,399 price tag.
    I also reviewed the EVGA RTX 3080 Ti FTW3 Ultra model, which can be seen here:

    • @LousWRX
      @LousWRX  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, not sure, maybe my room temperature is lower than I thought it was, my GPU idles all day long at 33-35C so perhaps my room is a cooler. I'm now running an Asus ROG Strix 3090, and my temperatures are warmer, but still not as hot as you're TI was getting to. Load temperatures stock are around 74C, and overclocked load temperatures get to about 77-78C, and idles all day long still at 35C. And this is with stock auto fan profile. So maybe room temperature might be closer to like 66-68F I would assume given my temperatures.

    Hi,
    I just came across your videos and I thank you for posting them.
    I am torn between the asus 3080ti tuf or the asus 3080ti strix.
    I have a Corsair ax1200i psu so power I don't think it will be the problem but dumped heat it will.
    The cooler on the strix seems better cooling that beast but as per the tuf I have read that it runs cooler in some cases and on other nor so much so I am back to square one.
    I am not planning to OC any of the cards but rather use asus software (tweak I think it is) to achieve the oc settings.
    I don't like asus crate myself.
    Thanks a lot for your advise.

    • @LousWRX
      @LousWRX  2 года назад

      Hi, thank you for the kind words. I've owned an Asus TUF RTX 3090 and it is true they do run cooler then the Strix models cards. They have a lower power limit, and use only 2 PCI express power connectors vs the 3 on the Strix models. And because of that, and lowered clock speeds they run significantly cooler. My load temperatures on the TUF 3090 were like 65C usually, I now own a Strix 3090 and that usually sits around 71-73C under full load.
      In terms of then dumping heat into the case, they definitely will be both doing that as only a limited amount of air comes through the rear I/O bracket on either of them, but the TUF will be putting out a little less heat overall. I hope that helps you out, but either of the cards are a good choice, but if you want lower temperatures, the TUF will be the one if want to save a little money on total costs.

      Which of those 2 would you recommend using? My case is a fractal 7xl and I am currently using a corsair aio 280mm but AFAIK there is some space left for a 240mm rad like the Asus strix LC.
      As per the strix 3080ti,I am not to keen sbout it's size and width but it all depends if I can got the Asus strix 3080ti LC on my case.

    • @LousWRX
      @LousWRX  2 года назад

      @@jazzypenguin4401 Hi, I'm not too familiar with the specs of that particular case, but if it's a mid-tower, I would set my CPU Radiator as an intake in the front of the case, and the GPU radiator (assuming you go with the LC Strix) on top as an exhaust. Most cases should be able to fit the orientation.
      The only negatives I have for the LC Strix 3080 Ti is it has a large amount of cables that are both really long, and may be a bit difficult to hide very well if space is tight with running two AIO's. The air cooled Strix is pretty simple and easy, you install it and you are all set, the temperatures will be lower with the LC though, along with noise, but me I would prefer the simplicity of the air cooled version just incase there is not enough room in you're case for two AIO's. I hope that helps you out a little. ✌

    How do you overclock the cpu and gpu

  • @hlchen9497
    @hlchen9497 3 года назад +1

    How is the overall fan decibel noise of the 3080TI ROG Strix at ~72 degrees and what fan speed do you need to maintain that temp?
    I own a EVGA 3080TI XC3 and I need to run the fans at 80-90% to maintain 72-75 degrees while gaming. Overall the fan noise at those levels are quite high. I was able to snag an Asus ROG Strix 3080 TI from Best Buy and I'm thinking of swapping out the EVGA if the Strix can maintain a more reasonable fan speed/noise while keeping the temps at 70 degrees and below.
    Of course temps are in large part case/fan dependent as well, but overall your setup looks pretty similar to mine.

    • @LousWRX
      @LousWRX  3 года назад +1

      Hi, I left the fan profile at auto and while I could hear the fans at full load, they were not as noisy as the 3080 Ti FTW3 I reviewed just recently, which can be seen here: ruclips.net/video/Lqp-cFziC54/видео.html
      The issue I had with the EVGA card is the temperatures were going a lot higher then I'd like to see under overclocked load, hitting up to 83C in Flight Simulator 2020. I'm not sure if I had gotten a bad card when it comes to temperatures, but it was simply far too high for my liking.
      And like you mentioned fans were plenty noisy as well. The Asus ROG Strix 3080 Ti fans are indeed audible, but a little quieter compared to the EVGA models fans. They both OC essentially the same with very similar boost clocks, the Strix does hit higher clock speeds under overclocked load, but it also has a slightly higher boost clock speed. Overall I'm more happy with the Strix model, it is a much better built card and I think you'll agree.

    • @hlchen9497
      @hlchen9497 3 года назад +1

      @@LousWRX Appreciate the response. That's interesting your FTW3 is running so hot & noisy. The cooling system is supposed to be upgraded, but perhaps that's offset by the increased power draw vs. an XC3. As mentioned though, I did run a custom fan profile to keep temps down hence the higher fan speed & noise levels.
      At this point, I'm still debating whether to swap in the ROG Strix vs. sticking with the XC3 and possibly installing a Hybrid kit down the line to keep temps and noise levels down. It's basically an $800+ premium for the Strix for better thermals, a couple % points in performance, and more headroom for OC...

    • @LousWRX
      @LousWRX  3 года назад +1

      @@hlchen9497 Yeah, I hear you on upgrading to Hybrid kit for the cooler on the EVGA card, I thought about doing the same, but saw they were all sold out, which I had already suspected would of been the issue. And yeah the Asus Strix models stock cooler is a lot larger and beefier then the EVGA model one, it's a 2.9 slot cooler, which I think the EVGA model is a little more than 2.5 slot in width, but also the Strix model is taller, and longer in length.
      I also owned an Asus STRIX RTX 3080 and it was the coolest running 3080 I had used (after trying a lot of different models) when it came to load temperatures and memory temperatures. I like EVGA and all as a brand, I been using they're products for many many years (well over 15 years now), but just something about the 3080 coolers just feels a bit cheap to me, like I understand they sell these cards for a lot lower than all the other competing cards, but I just don't feel the same quality in the cooling when you compare it say the Strix model.
      And yeah, I'm totally understanding you on the price difference between the two cards, in no way is the Strix model worth $2k, I can understand maybe $1580-$1650, but never $2k for a card, which puts it well ahead of the original 3090's price point. So for the value perceptive, the EVGA is the best card to have, and like I said they both essentially OC to the same level, but the Strix model does go a little higher though, and also is better at keeping the temperatures and cooling noise down, but yeah the price to a pay for all that is where things taking a hurting on our wallets.

      The price of this Asus ROG Strix 3080 Ti exactly $2,000 which is simply outrageous to say the least. The week after I bought it, my local Microcenter had the Asus Strix 3090 For $2,200. So I went over there and exchanged for the 3090 as I felt it would hold its value a lot better than a LHR card. The difference is a pretty small percentage, obviously the 3090 has 24GB of Vram vs 12GB for the Ti model, and it has a few extra shaders, RTX cores, and a slightly higher boost clock. I kind of felt paying a little extra for 3090 would be beneficial later when I decide to sell and upgrade to next big thing.

      Well the Asus Strix 3080 Ti model obviously is going to be better for overclocking as it uses 3 PCI express power connectors vs the 2 of the TUF model, but the TUF model is still a good card especially if it can be had at a lower price then the Strix model. I also owned an Asus TUF 3090 and it was a very solid card, excellent temperatures, but it just doesn't clock as high as the more higher end models with better cooling and power delivery, but its still a great card either way.

      Are you referring to the EVGA RTX 3080 Ti I reviewed prior? The Asus ROG Strix 3080 Ti model fans are a little bit quieter, and it runs cooler overall under load, but the coil whine was more noticeable on the Asus card, but that can very in between cards. The issue with the Asus model is the price, it is a lot of money ($2K) compared to the EVGA card ($1399). I do think the Strix model is better built card though, the cooler is much larger and thicker, and just does a better overall job at cooling.
      And the coil whine issue is variable, some cards have more than others, some have less. The EVGA model had some, but it was far less noticeable.

But one thing to keep in mind, this was when windows 11 wasn't officially out yet, and Ryzen CPU'S had an issue with the L2 cache bringing down some gaming performance. But either way most of the games were at 97-98 % which is perfectly suitable given the issues I mentioned above. As for Flight Simluator 2020 that game has always been allover the place with CPU performance, especially before all the recent patches that fixed a lot of the previous performance issues.
