Hey there! I really need your help! I just recently (because of your video) learned about major scales having relative minor scales and vice versa and why and how they function. I'm having trouble applying it, though. Could you PLEASE rescue me by examining and explaining what the heck is going on with KT Tunstall's sone 'The Universe & I"? I'm trying to create a bridge as in that song, but I'm confused as to what's occurring with the harmony and how she's implementing the Bminor scale in the bridge after the main song uses DMajor. Something about the structure of the song completely baffles me as to how to transfer this structural harmonic idea in my OWN creation. My sing is also in the key of DMajor, but whenever I try to make a bridge section starting with Bminor, it doesn't gel. Any clue why or what I can do?!
I am so thankful that there are talented creators, educators, and musicians like you on RUclips as it’s not as common, You calmly explain things, and don’t offer any gimmicks and show the true path to musicianship! Bravo🎉
@@DsJourneyNPG the more I dive into my RUclips creation. I can’t get over all the gimmicks out there. What happened to good old learning and hard work? :-) And enjoying the journey!
Very well explained and simple method of enjoying music without all the technical attachments that go with disciplinary musical education. Bravo, my friend! I have been a guitar for 55 years and I am learning to play the piano with RUclips instructional. You have made the journey wonderful, simple and encouraging. My knowledge from the guitar helps with all of that necessary understanding of inversions and scales. Keep up the good work. I will follow you.☮️💜🎶 Music is the invisible medication for us all.
Grade 4 as a kid and then nothing for 40 years. Coming back to it using my Yamaha Mox 8 and just landed on your channel. Love your content and presentation. No heirs or graces, just solid useful information. Practicing this chord progression and some inversions now. Thanks so much……..subscriber here.
Thank you so much ! This video answers exactly those long standing questions on my mind. Rarely do other teachers shares magic and knowledge to this extent and you’ve explained it so clearly as always. The message I get here is knowing the chords, scales and progressions, be creative with improvisations using multitudes of combinations. There’s so much to learn and all your videos help so much.
Yes, please, to a video on grace notes. This video was great! I'm self-teaching and am at a point where I am comfortable with a fair number of chords and changing between them, but now need to know what to do with the chords besides just repeating them until the next change. The info here is exactly what I need to move on, with ideas simple enough to get started with, and then moving on to more complicated material that will keep me busy for quite a while if I explore it deeply enough. Thanks! (Going over now to join your Patreon.)
Thanks, pleased to hear it was helpful. Remember, it was just one example, it can sound a million other ways with different rhythms and chords etc but hopefully that approach is a useful starting point. Oh great, I will say hello over there!
Oh yes, this was exceptionally helpful! Thank you. So clearly explained and demonstrated. This is perfect for where I am at currently and will definitely take my playing a step further. Will watch this again and put your ideas into practise.
Am new to piano and have bought a keyboard. Am learning the black and white keys and C-scale. Am closely following you but yet to understand what you are doing here but hope to get there some day like you said building up on vocabulary I'll try.
Exceptionally well done! Best chord "improv" video I have seen! Thank you so much for this..and would love to see the video on grace notes!!! Thanks again and keep these gems coming please!
Fantastic video. Really really clear and helpful. Gives great insight into how to start improvising step by step. I’ll get practicing. Thanks so much !
Very useful, and catering for a range of beginner-level abilities - thanks. I started playing with Simply Piano about 5 weeks ago and I realised watching this that I'm already learning something almost identical with 1-5 on the left hand and the major or minor triads on the right, broken up in to 1 / 3-5 and 1 / 2-5 patterns. So your video has given me some things to try out later when I get a bit better.
Wow , thank you so much for this awesome video , I’m a newbie to piano I play simple tab covers but really hopeless playing chords , this is going to help me immensely to progress, your teaching here is so much appreciated more than you know . Liked and subscribed. 🙏
Wow! I love this using chords and breaking notes with it. Right with it a music composition plays in your head. I like to see a song in mind that applies to the chords you have introduced. How do you put your chords into a song.
How do you mirror your keyboard and create the yellow notes? That's pretty slick. Be very handy in showing students exactly what the fingers are doing. Well done!
I’m curious that you don’t appear to mention your own name, unless I’ve missed it?! I really like your style of teaching, and as an older beginner, I am becoming more confident and enthusiastic! Thank you! 😊
Ok thanks for the feedback. I have thought about the kind of blue I use but wondered if it may be too dark on the black keys. I think you may be the first to mention this to me tbh but I will bear it in mind and see if more people seem to agree 👍
Hello Corey Lennox your You Tube Video are amazing. I would like to be a Patreon and I will support your channel monthly. I am looking forward to learning all I can and one day be able to play and know by piano well. Thank you and I am looking forward to downloading your materials. 🙏
So i made of list of the chord progressions to practice but what stumps me is the patterns. I cant figure out how to arrange them to get a good sounding flow.
Each time will different depending on the song, rhythm, chords etc as well as what you like. Takes some trial and error really, go slow at first to find something that sounds good to you. Maybe just do a couple of variations to start with, don’t try too much or that’s when you’re most likely to go off course. Like I mentioned in the vid too, takes experience and best thing is to build up a vocabulary of things to try by learning other songs/copying other players etc and through that you will start to develop your ear for it too. Good luck and stick with it! 👍

Hi, I never subscribe when prompted but there's a first time for everything. Great videos.
'Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you, oh-oh
Ha yes good spot, same chord, it's fairly common. Although my inspiration tbh was an old Cat Empire song.

The last aspect of the video, grace notes or what did you call it, can you make a video on that
I’d love to see a video on grace notes, also. Thanks
How do you mirror your keyboard and create the yellow notes? That's pretty slick. Be very handy in showing students exactly what the fingers are doing. Well done!
It's an app called midiculous, then I just screen record off my computer and line it up afterwards with the footage 👍

wao great
I heard Pirates of the Carribean, and now it can not be unheard.
Haha, there's worse things to get stuck in your head though
yellow is a little difficult to diferencate against the white keys. Just a thought.
Ok thanks for the feedback. I have thought about the kind of blue I use but wondered if it may be too dark on the black keys. I think you may be the first to mention this to me tbh but I will bear it in mind and see if more people seem to agree 👍

How do I play melody& chords with different Styles Sir
Goodmorning
Grace notes, yes please.
Noted, I think I will soon!

you say the progression is in d minor. is one b. but if we we put the second cord in b flat major then this would give us a key signiature with 2 b.??
Can you upload videos more frequently pls

I will try my best, been caught up with other things recently, unfortunately!
Would like to add a little soul!
