Always enjoy your informative video. Looking forward to follow up ride review.
sorry to be so off topic but does anybody know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account..?
I somehow forgot the account password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me.
@Henry Darian instablaster :)
@Landyn Junior Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm trying it out atm.
Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Landyn Junior it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thanks so much you really help me out!
@Henry Darian happy to help =)
Keep up the great tech overviews. Your commentary on using non-tubeless tire as tubeless is really helpful too. You help people save but still want performance.
I received my pair last week, one was 786gm and the other was 770gm. LOVED them out on the trail
no, 29x2.6, same tire, 3c exo tr. Right on par with the mtbr thread about them.
ebigford34 What rims are you using with the 2.6 Rekons?
Frank Schock some eie carbon i29
That is such a nice transition!
Great Maxxis tire info yet again! Keep em coming, and don't be afraid to predict any handling differences to previous tires you've reviewed? Yeah even before you ride said featured tire.
(Just an idea)
Tire looks good, the profile looks fine on the Arch MK3's. I'll be looking at the 2.6 Forekaster or the Rekon when my Onza Ibex's wear out
I had 2 reckon+ 2.8 tires on my former bike. It s a good all around tire. Especially on dry trails . You ll like them I m sure .
LoveMTB why don't you use them for racing? :-D
Did you feel a weight gain by going to a 2.6? Also, did you feel added rolling resistance? Thanks!
Really enjoy your reviews. I'm considering this exact tire combo. How did you like over time? Long-term review? After your experience would you highly recommend the 2.6 front over a 2.4 front with the ikon 2.35 rear?
Thanks for any input!
@@LoveMTB Thanks! I may consider the Ardent race or Rekon race for the rear. Would you say that the 2.6 F and 2.35 R are proportionally ideal (for those of us who prefer a slimmer / lighter R tire to slightly larger /grippier F)?
Ikon is fast and light great for dry hard pack. If there there are wet slippery roots on your trails or if the dirt is even damp they plug up and are useless.
I tried Maxxis (Crossmark 2) a few years ago, they were ok. I find Vittroria last longer and cost less, all while offering better performance. Maxxis is a good tire, but when you weigh up the Vittoria performance I go with that.
Great informative video. Is the height of these tyres similar between the front and rear. Are they taller sidewalls than minions? I am looking for more cushion for my hardtail
Can this Rekon 2.6 fit a 25mm ID rim? If it does, should I be concerned and is it dangerous cause of the thin rim width?
@@LoveMTB thanks man, I appreciate it!
Hello from southern Ontario. I recently came across your video regarding the Rekon and was sold on it. I was actually looking to get Rekon both front and rear 2.6/2.4 as I was looking to get better overall grip for general trail riding. What are your thoughts?
I was also looking to possibly get the dissector up front and rekon rear, but was concerned about the transition channel between center and side knobs. I've read that you could wash out and slide if you don't lean hard and quickly on a fast turn. I like the transition knobs on the Rekon it give a more even grip when turing/leaning.
I was initially gonna get Assegai/DHR2 but thought that I would be overtiring for my riding purpose and style. As I am not and aggressive downhill/enduro rider. Besides I know the drag and weight would kill me especially on the climbs.
Anyway great channel and very informative. Hopefully see you on the trails...Cheers!
Hey man..that would be cool, but im looking to get a 27.5 bike (polygon siskiu T8). I was gonna get a 29er, but I'd rather have the ability and fun of a 27.5 . I just feel that 29 would be too big (as I am 5'8) and my older hardtail is a 26er lol. I still might get the 29er but seems like the 27.5 is alot more fun to ride.
As for tires would you still recommend dissector for the front over rekon? I'm more about grip and control, climbing and rolling efficiency. (And the tread pattern has to look cool lol).
I rode in kelso years back and would like to go back. I live in Brampton west (closer to Georgetown) so kelso isn't too far from me. I recently got back into mtb from and over a 7yr break.
I've riden at puslinch, gorba, albion hills, heart lake, lookout gravity trails. I'd say I'm an intermediate rider, not too aggressive and enjoy flowing and technical trails.
Actually do you have a shop or just do these mtb reviews? It would be nice to meet up and talking mountain biking.
@@LoveMTB I may consider the Dissector up front for a bit more traction. The 29er it's still an option, but leaning more toward the 27.5 since I like a more agile bike.
As for the Siskiu T8 that I'll be getting, I believe it comes stock with Hans Dampf tires 2.6 front and rear. Have you had any experience with those tires? I heard they were slow rolling which is why I wanted to go with the rekons.
My old GT Avalanche (that I just upgraded to 1x drive train) has nobby nics. For me the nobby nics have great grip and good cornering, but us slow rolling. I just assume the hans dampf is similar. Also never had Maxxis tires, but everyone raves about them.
As for the mullet bike. I actually saw your Mullet peacemaker video. That's a sweet bike. Makes we want to go ride at Kelso again once this snow melts.
Take care! And thanks for the replies.
Very informative. I am looking to install the Rekon 2.6WT on the front and either the Rekon 2.4WT, Rekon Race 2.35 or the Ikon 2.35 on the back. Did you try the Rekon 2.4 or Rekon Race 2.35 on the back? Thanks! Keep up the good work.
Great review. You have convinced me. Dissector up front and a rekon out back. Any suggestions on 2.4 vs 2.6? I ride a devinci Django and ride mostly Simcoe county, Copeland and three stage.
A little off topic but where were you riding for this review? Was that Kelso?
Thanks for all your great advice and reviews. I think your reviews are some of the most honest out there. Cheers.

The Rekon does exist in Max Speed. I run a Rekon 2.25 front and Ikon 2.35 rear (both max speed).
Great review as usual.... thanks! ( How's that Smuggler been treating you? )
I have the rekon 2.8 on my bike and I think I want 2.6. How did you like them?
My 2019 Scott genius 940 came with this Rekon but is a non 3C, is this a big difference?
How do you think a rekon in the front and an ardent race in the rear would work? I currently have ardent race front and rear, but would like a little more bite up front. Is there a different tire you would suggest? I mostly ride hard pack trails with a little bit of loose over hard pack mixed in on a cross country hardtail.
So how did the rekon 2.6 work out on the ~ 25mm rims? I bought a set but am having second thoughts, that they might squirm too much at lower pressures on my 25mm rims...
@@LoveMTB Awesome, thanks..I run about the same pressure now with Ikon 2.35 and Ardent 2.4 on old Archs (I think 23mm).. I haven't noticed any squirm with that setup. The 25mm should be ok until I can build some 30mm wheels
@@LoveMTB Thanks for the reply - do you think too much sidewall would be exposed with the 2.6 rekon on 30mm? I can see that being a concern for the Ikon, no doubt
@@LoveMTB just watched again and saw that..thx. The measurements are helpful too!
I weighed mine to be 814 grams, probably within the regular measurement noise.
Nice review!
How did you find the Rekon in the long term? I'm running a 2.6 Maxx Speed Ardent Race on the front of my hardtail and it's only 40g heavier than the 2.35 it replaced. I love it but it's a bit slippy on wet rocks and roots and I'm thinking the Maxx Terra Rekon might improve things.
@@LoveMTB I was thinking more about the compound as the 2.6 Ardent Race has much bigger tread than the 2.35, but I'll give the Rekon a go. Thanks.
2.6” on a 26mm internal rim was ok? I was considering 2.6” but my rim is 25mm internal. Would it be ok you think to run 2.6”? I’ve gone as wide as 2.5” and that was ok, I liked the extra traction. Thanks!
@@LoveMTB Sounds good, thanks for the info. I do run tubes, I might give it a try sometime 👍
It would be useful to compare the Rekon on a 40mm or so rim at a lower pressure. It should begin to provide its best window of performance.
Possibly so. Wider may not be better for this Maxxis tire. Testing could show that and the tires limitations. Another tire with a wider total tread profile on a higher volume casing making it more rounded may work on a wider rim. At lower pressure for a bigger footprint with more performance. And those are the Bontrager XR Team in 2 and 4 versions with different knob sizes and heights. The XR2 2.6x29 isn't on the Trek site but a dealer will see it on their site and can order it.
More important is the tread pattern and compound are designed by Frank Stacey.
nice review, which rim width do you think is ideal for ikon 2.35 ?
thanks
LoveMTB Did you consider a 29mm Flow rim for the 2.6 Rekon?
hi, i am thinking of ikon 2.35 in rear and dhr ii 2.4wt in front for technical xc, i saw that maxxis has 2.4wt, from your experience it will be ok for 25mm inner width ? thanks again for the info.
Thanks for your advice, i would like to use it more at trails rocky, steep, little mud/wet for extra safety and confidence. My default setup is f/r ikon 2.35.
If someone interssted, on 25mm rim has rekon 2,6 64 mm through casing and nobs too
Good tire !
Thinking about nobby nic double defense for this season.
Yeah, it's xc, but I want it to be grippy and hold up well.
What do you think? :-D
What year is your Smuggler? I am surprised that your rear clearance worked for a 2.6. I have the 2017 with 2.35 Nobby Nics and there doesn't seem to be much room left. Maybe I need to throw a bigger tire in there and see. Thanks for the information.
Good to hear. I've been trying to figure out replacement tires. I like the rolling speed of the NN but I'm hoping to get better grip up front without losing too much roll. I ride a lot of hard pack, loose over hard, kitty litter loose etc. I'm debating it or stepping up to Bontrager XR4. I like how light the Rekon is. Always dry. Are you still liking the Ardent up front?
I would like to ask how your experience was with the 2.6 WT on the Arch MK3 rims.. I have these rimes and am thinking of running this same size maxxis on them for XC and singletrack/enduro. No downhill or knarly stuff just my local trail systems in the rooty and sometimes rocky northeast. Did the tire seem to have enopugh support and resist squim and not burp ? I am 155 lbs and ride semi-aggressive. Really thanks for any insight you can lend !
@@LoveMTB thank you ! I just did some research last evening. Found the new 2020 Trek (I have 2016, came with 2.3's) Fuel EX8 comes with 2.6 Bontrager tires on 30mm rims. I decided to go with this same setup and re-rim my wheels. I figure they are producing their 2.6 and selling a bike with this combo then it's proven. clearance should be good. . I do appreciate the reply.
Any updates? I just got them on my bike also bit hasnt really ridden them since ita cold lol
What tire pressure did you run on a hard pack?thanks
Looking to put this on my front in 2.6 to replace Arden race. Do you think I will notice added drag or it should be no issue since it's up front. Thx
@@LoveMTB Hmm, didnt think about that one. Will it matter?
@@LoveMTB yep, Im actually at 30mm so I should go with the WT
What did you think longer term? Thinking of moving from an ardent race 2.35 to this.
Yeah on the front, probably 2.6 i also have those rims and a 2.35 ikon on the rear
Thank you for the replies. I'll grab one then.
that's a good pair
Try some michilin wild am tires please. I see everyone with maxxis but i think the michilien you’re gonna be impressed with the longevity.
Used them before have a video as well 🤘
hello do xc technician
I had ahead msc tractor and back ardent race 2.2 and I broke the wheels jej las corazas with cuts endured
now I have about dt swiss fr560 of 30mm internal width
I thought:
forward / backward
rekon 2.40wt / rekon 2.40wt
rekon 2.40wt / ardent race 2.35
ardent race 2.35 / ardent race 2.35
Aggressor 2.30 / Aggressor 2.30
as indicated by technical technical some strong descents, I use 60% trail and 40% pavement that does not weigh so much and has durability
I appreciate if you can give me your opinion
I was thinking about replacing my Maxis 2.8 Recon with a 2.6 Maxxis Tire I'm running whisky carbon rims 35 mm inner diameter. My concern was that I would lose that Small Bump compliance by getting rid of the 2.8 how did it bike ride and corner with the 2.6
@@LoveMTB Hi. Did you ever change to 2.6? I have 2.8 and I thinking of going 2.6 To improve rolling resistance. I am worried about dropping to bb. Whats your thoughts?
Hey this is the exact combo I was looking at for my 2018 trek fuel ex8. I have 29mm Id rims. My bike came with 2.4 xr4 tires and I feel like the back tire was kinda draggy. I was thinking of getting a 2.6 xr4 f and a 2.4 xr3 r or going with the combo you did. How have you found the tires working out. I live in Indiana which is hardpacked or loose over hp.. Some Sandy spots too.
LoveMTB thanks, love your videos. It's snowing here in Indiana as well.. Waiting on spring... Lol
Will these wear out fast when ridden or road or not? I ride both road and trail and I want a good set of tires for the trail while not wearing them out fast on the road
LoveMTB alright got it! Thanks dude, what could you recommend tho?
If you run high pressure on the road, then it will greatly decrease the wear. Hope this helps, I ride on road a bit, but I don't want to compromise grip.
I go with 2.35 coz im more on roads
@@King_23Rubren makes sense
My 2.5 dhf measures wider on a 24mm rim
2,6 front and 2,4 rear :D
interesting...it is not 2.6, but 2.5
2.60 tire on a 26mm rim? Bro, read the specification of the rim first!
29x2.6 forkaster .
My god, i held 26 and 29 tires side by side. 29 is much heavier. All that rotating mass. I wish new 26ers had more options
Lol thats what she said
