A SLICK trick i found for when your throw bag gets stuck, credit to Richard Mumford. Tie to your throw bag ring with a girth hitch. You'll notice it slips if pulled on..... that's what ya want here ! It should grip just well enough to throw your bag....but if your bag is stuck, pull till it unties itself ! Your bag and line fall free and clear!
If it slips too easily, wrapping a little tape on the ring may help grip. Experiment with tail lengths.

Lidar and gis is really fun if you like that sort of thing. Its been a long time since I messed with it but if you want to go down that rabbit hole Google for canopy height map. I found data from the state, ran it through some chm scripts and visualized it in qgis. A cool idea that I never did though is figure out how to calculate a reverse view shed to find trees with the best views

just a thought or my opinion but get ride of that gri gri. use an option that can go hands free, the grigri is meant to have a hand on the tail end always. It is meant for rappelling/belaying not RTC (recreational tree climbing )or CAC(commercial arborist climbing).

We also eventually worked out it is quicker to untie the bag before retrieving your line for a new throw, than to try and jerk it through the branches.... we haven't tried double bagging yet, that's next!

I can believe it took me so long to figure that out! Glad we did 😅Attaching the back is actually really fun and with a long throw line opens up a lot of ways to control what crotch you are on. Thanks for the comment!

Search online for "tree blind chair" it's made for hunters to sit in but is fun for rec tree climbing of course.

It looks like your screwgate is undone at 4:41. Always try to double check, we don't want anyone getting hurt! I generally find it useful to flip screwgates upside down, as the vibrations from climbing can cause them to come loose otherwise.

I can see that it looks like a screwgate but its a 2-action locking carabiner and it was locked. You can probably fairly criticize me for using a cheap amazon carbiner though!

@@rays9033 I used sterling safety pro 10 mil and petzl grigris. Though I'm not particularly recommending that setup
