- Recruit Noah Marquez-Burke describes what it's like to be the guide for his platoon at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina.
(U.S. Marine Corps video by Lance Cpl. Shane Manson)
Please if you ever become the guide in boot camp, make sure you tell everyone all about it when you get to the fleet. You will thank me for this advise later.
lmfao
@@usmc-veteran73-77 its sarcastic and a joke. You'll probably get hazed if you mention it
@@balriel7229 I know that. Trust me some Guide or Squad Leaders out of boot will try that. Semper Fi from an old Marine Sgt......OUT.
This is guy is trying to get you hazed don’t listen to this ...
@@light9906 you are right. We've all been "Boots" in the Fleet, and we all know about being harassed. Semper Fi
“I was the guide!” -every guide forever once they realize that’s the best thing they’ll ever do.
justin Kassel key word “was”
Everyone I met who was guide never talk about lol
@@farley202because they peaked in bootcamp.
Got a letter from my daughter saying she was currently Guide. Watching this brought a tear to my eye.
Me too, my son
Being Guide for me sucked and it wasn’t really worth it. It depends on what you want out of the Corps and what I wanted out of the Corps didn’t even out when I was Guide. So I left it alone. I was already PFC going in and being promoted to Lance coming out of Boot Camp is simply impossible these days, as it should due to the PME requirements for E-3 and Lance Corporal Seminar in the USMC etc.
So to me it’s for the 18-19 year olds fresh out of High School who don’t have a professional background and want to feel good about themselves which isn’t wrong and I highly encourage them to take on that challenge that helps them confidence wise more than it could for a resume etc.
By the way, no one in the Fleet or in Garrison cares about you being Guide in Boot Camp. It won’t do much to your composite score when you’re going for LCPL.
Fucking facts, I was seen as the "fuck up" in boot because I dropped from 2nd BTN to 1st BTN. No one really liked me but I did what I needed to due and passed boot, MCT, schoolhouse and whatnot. While some of them are still PFC's im a Lance now. Rah.
My guide in boot camp actually got a meritorious promotion to E-3 from the battalion commander but he had already been through most of OCS before he went to boot camp
I spent several hours on my own marching and practicing the different drill for carrying the company guidon. I was given it the 3rd day in basic, and I kept it for most of basic.
Thank you all for your willingness and your sacrifice 🙏 💯. My son is 3 weeks in at MCRD San Diego.
Guarantee one of those sixteen Marines was guide at boot camp.
😂🤣
Lmao
5 mins after graduation no one cares.
You sure bring a positive attitude
My boyfriend flew out yesterday and he was notified shortly before that he would be the guide I'm so proud of him
Oh he’s gonna have fun 👍🏽
Hey is it true that most partners of people sent out to boot cheat on them? Cause I think it is but just want to know if it's true.
@@rockyroads8802 If you're asking if I cheated on him, no. I never cheated on him. But a few months ago when we were about to celebrate four years together he dumped me and was dating his best friends ex in one week. So fuck him I guess :)
@@lyn3830 Alright I am sorry but I laughed at the end. I don't mean to be rude, I just find it hilarious. I am going to Marine Boot Camp tomorrow morning and was just curious that's all.
I am honestly thinking of avoiding intimate relationships entirely and just wait tell I am out, or just become a single dad due to the dating atmosphere nowadays.
@@rockyroads8802 No worries, I'm better off without him. People suck. Focus on yourself, and good luck at boot!
It's not good to be the first guide in your platoon. The first one or two usually get fired. Same with squad leaders. I was the scribe in my platoon. That's a good job to have because you know exactly what's coming up on the schedule. Every minute of every day is planned out. The scribe knows what's coming up before the drill instructors because you write out their daily schedules on index cards for them. At least that's how it was then. Got meritorious promotion for it too.
g3ultra Was the job easy? Do they get fired a lot?
@@socialtitan3706 they get fired alot when I went through. We had like 4 before we graduated.
Dont forget us House Mouses!
my only complaint is that the video was short. WANT MOAR.
plz?
Mona Bale learn to spell.
@@milesmayhem5440 Capitalize the proper letters in your sentence.
Step 1- when the first guide inevitably gets fired raise your hand and yell and a big flag will be violently thrown at you

If you were guide or squad leader in bootcamp, make sure you say it when you report for duty.
I wouldn't want to be a guide because the whole time you're drilling you drill with the guidon not a rifle, the M 16 when I was in and without a scope. I loved rifle drill so I'm glad I was just a regular recruit.
When I think about bootcamp I think about carrying my team. I hope I can do a good job when I get there.
When you going?
I needed this video.
Same man
But can they sing like a vocalist? 😂
I was a green Hospital Corpsman. With all the stupid Safe Places , the Squad calling everyone but themselves a racist .....this video reminded me why I love the Corps . There are mostly two kinds of Marines, Green or Dark Green. After my 8 years , one war and serving OUR COUNTRY, I miss the fact that the Marine Corps is the least racist organization I ever worked in. I EAS ‘d on an early out when Clinton declared no more Wars. Within weeks thereafter I was kind of lost seeing racial shit from all sides. End of Soliloquy
SEMPER FI !!
Hey that's my platoon

🤣😂 My guide in boot was a kiss ass, pretty boy, eye candy for the DI's, he got replaced daily, only was a "leader" in front of the SDI. Dude wasn't even active duty smh and I knew another "guide" who got kicked out for popping on a piss test with cocaine! Everyone knows the squad leader does the real work! Do a video about the squadron, battalion, guide now that's a leader where it matters... the FMF!
Our guide, was guide because he had marching experience from ROTC, he was dumber than a box of rocks, unq'd at the rifle range. Wasn't the best at PT. He was a hell of a, "Yes Man", though.
God Bless you and Thank you!
Semper Fi! Do or Die!
My daughter just completed the crucible yesterday. I knew she was squad leader. But someone shared a video with me of her platoon returning from the Crucible. Instead of being in squad leader position, she was carrying the flag. Does that mean she was promoted and I just haven't heard the news yet?
Never aspire to be the guide, the guide is the easiest to control and the biggest drill instructor ho, aspire to be yourself and focus on what you learn in your classes, they are more important than rifle marksmanship, but drill is more important than everything you will ever learn in boot camp. Drill is the conclusion of ones pride and character as a Marine to beat of Esprit de Corps. Love your Mother or don't join the Marines, that is the message of true Marines to kids wanting to kill things outside before they've killed their fear and anger inside
Great video. Anyone...women, men and even transgender, whatever you are, if you serve or are trying to service, thank you. Your service is and never will be forgotten by me at least. Bless x
Stop it with this foolishness no such thing as transgender you were born with a penis or vagina that makes you male or female.
It also helps if you look the part...
Serious question: I cannot remember who holds on to the guide’s rifle while in formation with the guidon. Who takes the guide’s rifle with them during marches?
ProJanitor we left it with the broke dicks
Carson Tollinchi haha, oh yeah
Chesty Puller
Will JROTC help me prepare for the Marines?
Morceso898 Gaming recruit training maybe the fleet no and just for your health when you get to the fleet don’t mention ROTC good way to get hazed
yes its going to help you enlist as a E-2 instead of E-1 (you have to do 2 years of JROTC)
......................College ROTC will help you become a officer (lieutenant), which you will then be 9 ranks above enlisted
Thank, You because I wanna be a Officer in the Marines.
Morceso898 Gaming it will help with basic drill. Most guys go in not knowing any drill but in jrotc u should learn drill. Stationary, matching, armed etc at least that’s what I learned I leave for Parris island in 2 months
@@TheGamingSquad but does it matter the branch of the JROTC because mines is Army.
Fuck Guide Artist Recruit right here boy!!!
Tell your squad leader in the fleet and he will be sure to put you as a fire team leader.

hello gentlemen I had a random question hoping to maybe get an answer, so yesterday I finished MEPS and under the advice from my recruiter as well as the whole recruiting office I did not disclose my traffic tickets I have three tickets for speeding and one ticket for Speed contest total of five points here in the state of California of course I did not bring it up at MEPS and now it's just eating away at me as if it's going to come back to bite me in the ass in the future. just wanted to know from personal experience if you guys think I'll be okay for my Marine Corps career or if I genuinely messed up before I even started.
Just dont bring it up, stop worrying and you’ll be fine. Its nowhere near the big deal they make it out to be
As long as the car registration isnt in you're name you'll be straight, if it is in ur name then make sure the tickets are all paid and you'll have nothing to worry about
I do not recall any "FREE TIME" at MCRD. Is this something new?
You guys had time to square away your gear and write home. STFU.
XD POG
What the fuck they have weights in the squad bay...?
Guide, Charlie Co. Plt 1086 but flag says 1068?!
combat camera doesn’t exactly have the highest GT requirements :P

Yo he was my kill hat! Oh how times have changed
He was my sdi
My SDI as well
So for everyone else who isn't the guide... once you graduate boot camp, no one gives a fuck and it doesn't matter.
Looking forward to join the Marines when I get my visa. Would you guys accept me?
Mahir Shahriyar 4th battalion would.
1st civ division will
Work hard and put others before yourself and you will fit right in. Good luck.
I had a few friends earn their citizenship through the Marine Corps. Best of luck to you.
Robert Wilson you can do that?
He said I
guide is a bunch of bs in boot man lol. the guide gets fired until third phase and are planning drill lmao
Dude mentions "Free time" while being a recruit i basic. There was no free time I ever had and 95% of the time anyone that volunteered got shit for duty. When I as a boy, there was not any permanent record of you doing anything above or beyond the dude that volunteered for nothing. After basic and depending on your MOS there will be a time to set your self apart to be a real leader but basic recruits is NOT it. "Please sir may I have another!!!"
JustDanO You had time to square away your gear, don’t try to sell your shit. There is the “free time” he’s mentioning.
"Portside shine 'em up. Starboardside shower up."
"AYE AYE SIR!!!"

Lol. Hail the guide. It’s always the hardest in basic
No.
Nasty things
Where's my 2500$ for completing a hit for you? Youre pissing off the wrong merc.
I have a question, I have looked at several recruite videos and I hear the same thing , that they use the word (I) when I was a recruite in 1998 at Parris Island we had to say this recruite and 4th Battalion did not train with us. I'm not proud of what I am seeing with my Marine Corp, we are known for our brother hood and traditions. I never saw a female Marine wear dress blues like a male Marine when I saw that I was shocked. I love the Corp but I don't love what I see , Semper Fi to my Marine Corp.
Erahhhh Charlie co
Be good at drill
i lowkey wanna be guide when i hit boot camp 😳
Bianca Da Drummer same , I leave in a week 🙌🏽🇺🇸💯
LAZombie good luck ☝🏽
Huh would you look at that.
