  • Starting in early 1915, the Ottoman Turks began deporting and killing hundreds of thousands of Armenians in the first major genocide of the 20th century. More than 100 years later, this history remains controversial, but is critical to remember as a turning point in the history of genocide prevention, international law and human rights. Author and professor Ronald Grigor Suny discusses the events in his new book They Can Live in the Desert, but Nowhere Else: A History of the Armenian Genocide.
Recorded April 27, 2015 in J.C. Nichols Auditorium at the National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial.

Fantastic lecture. It really lays clear the means, motive and opportunity. Turkey needs to own up to it's history. The US and other states have a duty to as well. People who deny the past usually deny things in the present, and the big lie makes the other lies easier.

That’s true. They should sue Armenians for all the atrocities and mayhem they committed in the Ottoman Empire which caused it to collapse. And then they should bring up all the real genocides has committed by Anglophones and Francophones to the surface starting with indigenous people of America Australia Canada Africa and black Americans. It’s about time.
