- Around 5 months ago we finally got around to fitting the hybrid turbos to our 3.0 BiTDI Audi A6 project and produced OK results... Here's an update to where we are now with the project!
Current Figures: 409bhp (305kW) & 585Ft/lbs (794Nm)

So I've walked 5 miles this morning, just finished fixing my car, and then had a shower in a satisfied mood. I feel content whilst ready for lunch in an hour. Switch on youtube to find Ryan coming through like a boss with the Sunday Funday content. Legend. I can retire after this lol

This valve opens and pushes into this one, this popper opens and pushes into the big one which pushes a lever into the small one then the initial boost is multiplied by the quad-core processor on the small one which then adjusts the big one which is crucial hsnnsnjdjhdbdbdbbbxnxjxjxjnaakaksjsnnsndjs..... But in the end we making more power!!
I'm sold by the last two words. 🤣💪

Bi turbos witch operate in series and parallel are an ass to tune. But when you get it right it's absolute magic

The amount of metal grid is perfectly normal. Have changed the oil on 5 pcs 313 TDI and they were all full of metal grid on the magnets. Oil change was from 120.000 to 180.000km. Cheers from Denmark. Btw nice project 👌
Would love to see this get to 440BHP then race against the S6 petrol variant to see how close it would be in a drag race!

Thanks for the video, I’ve got one of these and have been following with interest. A couple of questions, what was the verdict on the gearbox after the flush? And, how much power can these gearboxes take? Cheers and keep up the good work.
Gearbox seems fine. I doubt you would break it with power!

Maths+science = boost
When I have done the trans is the past I disconnected one of the cooler lines and once I had refilled the system I ran it to pump a litre or so out from the cooler line. I then topped up and repeated until I got clean oil. This pushes the dirty oil out that sits in the torque converter.

You might need one of them flushing machines👍
Them boxs never drain full amount, when you strip them to repair you always get another few litres out on the bench.
So much smarter than the ttid saab setup!!
Nice videos! You won’t get more oil than that from the transmission from just a drain as the torque converter will hold a few litres, but that’s the correct procedure anyway flushing is not really recommended. Also the noise you have is more likely to be the chain/tensioner, very common on these! Look forward to see’ing more developments 👍🏼

Not sure if you’re saying its ZF procedure to flush? But it’s not ZF procedure to flush using a machine, this can potentially cause issues. ZF procedure is simply to drain (at correct temps) and refill, to achieve a better/complete oil change you could repeat this process again after a shorter period of time 👍🏼

In Romania we succeed to achieve 4xx hp with stock turbos and literally no smoke

Can you do some 100 - 200 km/h runs with this setup? Would be nice to see how this compares to the so called 450hp+ BiTDI's on stock turbo's.

lol 450hp on the stock setup is dreaming eh. dyno power factor fudging....
mines doing 380hp on stock turbos,no dpf and has to be capped there as egt's need to be kept to safe level..theres no chance of getting anywhere near 450hp stock. Fantasy figures.

my bitdi gearbox was nearly the same at 65k miles (slightly less ferreous on the filter magnets). only strange things i have are clunky changes when cold into first gear. im now changing oil (roughly 4 litres) every year/10kmiles and this keeps the gear changes good. if i dont the clunking comes back. only changed the filter once at 65kmiles. oil comes out mucky every time. mine is mapped to 390hp and runs extremely hot over 4krpm, so i short shift. should really have it remapped to a safe egt limit. your turbo set up has a decent rise across the whole usable rev range, but as you say its going to be expensive for a relatively small gain. bring on the big turbo!! will the gearbox handle 1000nm?? and have your gearbox maps tightened up the first 3 gears? keep it coming! :)
It likes the revs with this turbo. EGT needs to be kept low!

That valve thing u showed at the start of putting back turbo sounds like what my noise is through the air filter box when I’m stationary and I select a gear , is it a characteristic of the car and nothing to worry about ?
Our issue was too much boost request at lower RPM and idle

@@ThenameisOskar I assume you mean my diesel and not my race car. No, I've since installed oem dpf and a trailer hitch so mine definitely won't be as fast anymore. But I'll have a go when my summer tires are back on for shits and giggles. Also, mine is a wagon. 2t +

Could a similar setup to that be put on a standard 3.0TDI if the bitdi power and torque were sought-after? I'm not apposed to making that bypass valve being mechanically controlled.

Is this all with a standard air intake and filter setup? I've read it's decent with no mods. I saw you were experimenting with putting an RS6 style vent in the air box. How did that go?

I have a 3.0tdi quattro but with just a single turbo and the 8-speed tiptronic gearbox how feasible would it be to just bolt on the biturbo?
No, it's easier to put 1 big turbo on there anyway!

What about launch control in this car? Does it stress the gearbox too much?
From my knowledge the tiptronic isnt meant to work as a launch control. So i wouldnt recomend doing it alot
ive been looking at these but as i do short trips i dont want dpf issues, if you delete them does the car smoke alot?
They stink a little from cold but otherwise no smoke

is there a difference in the 3.0 tdi engine and the 3.0 bitdi ? can a c7 a6 3.0 tdi be converted to a 3.0 bitdi without major work ? amazing channel btw !

Why you dont add big turbo and wastegate to the gtd28? And make true compound?
You need boost if you want more power. Compounding is easy way to get that boost up
We might, 28 is too big for HP turbo

After honest opinions here, Im an Audi guy through and through, but how does the Audi 3.0L Diesels compare to the BMW 3.0L diesels for power and mods?

How well would it handle hybrid turbos with the aftertreatment intact? DPF and DOC.
I can't see why not but maximum power might be less
@@DarksideDevelopments Sounds reasonable. Do you think it would plug the DPF faster or more often since you'd be using more fuel and air? Alternatively, are there bigger DPFs available?
Depends how rich the tune is!
With the right tuning we wouldn't expect the DPF to block or the regeneration being active more frequently. There's very little room to fit anything else on these!
Could this setup be used on a 2011 Q7 3.0L US version?

Guys, I have a 2015 BiTdi and Audi say the gearbox is sealed for life. How often should I get the oil in the box changed?

VNT/VGT turbos are so good now, im not sure why audi don't just go single turbo on these? sure im missing something

Yeah those are laggy even with 48v supercharger compared to Bi-TDi
On my bitdi the high pressure turbo is broken.
Faultcode p0299 comes up when i touch the throttle and the rpm passes 2800rpm.

Tho i dont think the y pipe on the bottom of your sti intercooler is any easier to wrangle.
The most complicated turbo ive replaced so far was on a 5 cyl turbo fiat. Just abysmal.

Yes glad we got an update but I’m sure he had it to Audi no so long before he sold it to you for a service and I’m sure there’s a abart 2 years Audi service plan left on it too I do t know how it works with it been tuned now but when he bought it nearly 3 years to the day the original owner bought a 5 year Audi plan just before he sold it lads

I wouldn’t be sending it back either with 5 litre of oil being init be I’m more than certain it was done only a few month before you got it but he had a a4 3.0 tdi before the bi and he asked about having Torsen done on that and they said they can’t do it and couldn’t be done literally drove to vw and they did it for him so just shows what theses all singing all dancing warranty’s and service plans a worth dunit

Hi guys, after 3 years of being desperate, I understood that 8HP (AL551) can be adapted for higher torque. I had engine swap (CGQB->CVUB) due to burned piston and the new engine is from facelift, but I was promised it was 100% same. Well since then the E clutch adaptation always ends up at -700mbar and that causes slight jerk on 1-2 and 5-6. More pressure to avoid slipping, however damages the E clutch I guess. That engine is puttin out more torque as the TCU is expecting, or at least TCU thinks it is more torque, because the dyno says 570Nm anyway. I have the 8HP55 transmission, but will try to update the AL551 TCU with facelift 8HP70 tranny software to see if it helps or not :-/ No one was able to help me for years with this. Do you think this jerk shifting due to -700mbar fill pressure (-300 to 300 is limit) could be fixed by doing a TCU tune? Did you do the TCU tune in case of your beautiful BiTDI? Thanks!!!
Its hard to say but software would be worth a shot before changing the hardware. Maybe try TVS, these are pretty well known for there DSG software.

All those electronic controls will get knackered and not work properly eventually from all the engine heat.
They seem to be OK.
Definitely not worth the investment unless you are replacing the turbos anyway. On the old m57 335d's you can now fit hybrids that will take you to around 500 or more bhp.

@@DarksideDevelopments true, seen several printouts but they may be of the inflates kind.. There is always the option of fitting a 3rd bigger turbo like santjer performance did in the US, over 600whp, check their Facebook page, 5.3s 100-200kph diesel only.

Unfortunately not, it didn't quite work the way we wanted and wouldn't have been the best value for money set up for what you gain

why does Audi seems to be like 100 -150 hp down to 3.0 diesels from BMW ?

@@DarksideDevelopments i have seen quite a lot 550d´s with over 500 HP with stage 2 and there are a view 335d with bold on's with around 500 hp. There are even a view turbo manufactures like turbosystems selling turbos for the n57n for 490+ or M57D30TÜ2 for 500 hp.
But i have not seen someone selling a whole kit for such power figures.
Actually 410 bhp you can do with stock turbos, and some good intercooler so figures are not very interesting..

As explained in the video far too expensive to justify, same with the 335d, just map and forget about it. But for 3.0 TDI and 330d going for a bigger turbo setup is fine.
@@ThenameisOskar 380-410 max, there is one running over 500 bhp full vehicle weight but I'm not sure of the turbo setup. 1/4 in 11.3s and 100-200 in 7.2s.
