This music was produced by tony visconti and Band maid together, he invited Miku kobato and vocalist Saiki to his country to record the song, While working with BAND-MAID, Tony commented, "I loved the originality of BAND-MAID. Meeting them was like a dream come true. During recording , SAIKI and MIKU sang for eight hours straight.Tony added "I don't know many artists. with such stamina, I was pulled back by their professionalism. They really lived up to my expectations."
One of the things that jumped out from Saiki's interview in the _Unseen World_ score book is how much she works on fitness so that she has a solid physical foundation for what she does vocally. Miku's said stuff to the effect of not being able to work out as hard the same way because she puts on muscle at the drop of a hat and she'd look like a young Schwarzenegger 😊
I love this track. I loved it on first hearing when it first dropped. I’m not sure why it didn’t receive the praise it continues to deserve. And yes, epic visuals in a truly impactful MV.
When the song first came out I found it too much like Western hard rock, it didn't have as much Japanese element as other b-m songs. I often wonder if some people don't like some J-metal bands because they actually sing in English.
What a great reaction to this very underappreciated song (and video)! More than a few Maidiacs I know steer clear of it - sort of put a ban on it. So thank you for your words of praise - justice is served.
IMHO, that is one of the better solos from MISA + Akane and then from Kanami. They manage to take the feeling of chaos and despair and put it into music that transmit those feelings. It might be unpleasant to some, but only true musicians can pull that off.
OH yea, dark, heavy music and dark, heavy video. Great eye opener for what we are doing to our planet and each other. Love it! Thank you for reacting to this video. oh, Pigeons will save the world. PO!
One of my favorite songs. I often ask reactors to react to it, but they never do. So big thanks for doing it man. Big thanks. It seems to be too confronting for a lot of people. I've always liked bands that can deal with social, political, humanitarian & ecological issues. Something that makes us think.
This song catches some flak for it's album mix & supposed "political" lyrics. IMHO it is a great song live and the lyrics basically say "damn we screw up a lot of things as humans and could do better"- not really a controversial idea. I think Kanami sounds a little like Hendrix in this song.
@@ChrisPage68 we screwed up because of Band-Maid and we screwing up the whole entire world.... Ps ...kinda love the song and eventually grew on me time to time.... especially when watching them live Shibuya okyu-ji....
Dragons, a poignant commentary of the sad, self-inflicted current state of the world, is a great plunge into the bluesy rock style given to us by Hendrix and others. Heard live (and without the overly compressed mix), the song jumps from the souls of the members and into our minds as a warning. Let's all heed that warning and support our home planet!
People need to get over this already. The ladies had nothing but positive things to say about working with Visconti… and they obviously didn’t have an issue with the message of the song. They are intelligent young women, not mindless bimbos oblivious to the world around them. And Visconti, by all accounts, isn’t responsible for the compression issues, which affected the whole album, not just this song.
I like the fact that the ladies from Band Maid are "allowed" to have opinions on the state of the world. Being from Japan they have more right than many others. Bravo ladies.
Sometime in the future, I hope the Maids cover a song(s) in this style of classic vintage 1960's-70's psychedelic blues rock, whether it be Hendrix, D.Purple, Santana, J.Airplane or maybe even Strawberry Alarm Clock. Of course they would have to style those in their own Maidian way. And obviously they should also do vintage Japanese rock in & around the same era, such as the song "Suki suki suki" by the Sadistic Mika Band, but in this case the cover would be by the Maidistic Miku Band. Song covers are something the Maids should do a little more often. It helps catch the attention of those who like the originals. However, there are sometimes those who are too pure to think that the original should be the only version of that song, yet historically a lot of songs on the airwaves for many past decades are actually covers, they just either got permission or rights to make a version for themselves to sell. But again, the Maids are lacking in the covers/remakes/versions department. That alone should help garner both more fans & more sales for the gals.
Man, I've always thought they should do Crosstown Traffic by J Hendrix. of course, hearing this the first time is what prompted that idea. This is a great song IMHO.
Agree. A cover of a classis tune should get airplay and recognition for them. It would be cool if Miku would back translate some English lyrics into Japanese. The Hu band had major success with their Metallica cover. Band Maid's cover of Honey is an exceptional tune...time to step it up!
@@mr.bluebird6544 ... Yeah & even that short Slipknot cover the Maids did during the cancelled Knotfest got them some attention, & so if that worked, then a full-bore cover of a familiar tune(s) would get them even better solid coverage (pun?). Back in the early 1990's, several rock bands did covers of Carpenters songs for the album "If I Were A Carpenter", which included artists as Sheryl Crow, Cranberries & Dishwalla. It was a modest hit but also good practice on how to put those types of projects together. The Maids could potentially do such a thing, but instead, the whole album are all covers covered by just them, rather than different bands. Start with 5 song covers, which I'm sure is plenty to work on, as they are already busy making new original songs. Just make sure to pick the right songs to cover & which ones that are copyright & license-friendly. Now imagine if they cover a BTS song. The BTS fanbase is 40-50 million strong, so if a band as relatively & modestly small as Band-Maid makes a cover, practically at least a tenth of the BTS ARMY would hear about it. One-tenth of Army is still bigger than all the Maidiac fanbase combined. Some will praise the cover, some will hate it. Also do covers from western metal, jazz, pop, rock & even hiphop. And of course the aforementioned Japanese ancient/traditional & rock. I don't know if Miku would be the right person to do translations, but if she does, it would be interesting how she might spin some of those words & verses to make it their own. And also perhaps let them do a cover in full-English, just as they did all-English in Dragon Cries. I mean, that is one big way to crack western music charts, is to crack the language barrier, despite any underlying Asian xenophobia by the west (yes, that exists). BTS has done it & so can the Maids.
@@robwebnoid5763 Perhaps they can do a Budokan tribute cover set. Beatles, Zepplin, Deep Purple, Cheap Trick...a lot to choose from. Ran across the Judas Priest cover of Green Mahalishi(?) and thought that would be a great one for the Maids. Hopefully during the upcoming US tour they can hit some of the multi-act shows (i.e. Knotfest) to help connect with a wider audience and throw in a bunch of one-mans for us Maidiacs. Hope their new label is adept at promoting.
I love the song, even though a lot of maidiacs don't like it. They say it's overproduced and too political. I even saw one fan say that it's a shame that Bandmaid became "woke." Seriously? Since when does concern about the human condition mean you've gone woke. As an old guy, this song took me waaaay back to the days of psychedelic rock. It was like Jimi Hendrix had been reincarnated into Kanami's body. I love it.

It's a great song, but not as unique as their usual stuff imho. They added more "Bandmaid thing" in Manners, that's why most fans prefer Manners to this song.
This song is so heavy and dark, uncharacteristic for Band-Maid. I think that was what a lot of Maidiac's maybe didn't like, as most Band-Maid songs are uplifting and happy. I have grown to love the song, but still don't like the video. I think it's the American influence showing, as producer Tony Visconti worked with the band and sponsored this song. Hendrix vibes and a great rock anthem, just a bit on the dark side. Musically, brilliant, to me, all the way through! MISA, Akane and Kanami are on fire in this one!
Grew on me since watching live Shibuya okyu-ji..now i love it...and Don't mind the mv...just realized that we messing up the world... thanks Covid for the reality 😜
Like the song, hate the video, too miserable for Band-Maid in my opinion. To me this shows why they should stay away from famous producers and people who would like to turn them into just another western product. Maybe they would get more famous but they would lose their soul.
I disagree. It shows that they are not shy about telling what needs to be told. My opinion of Band-Maid went up a lot when they released it. And any way, it is MISA's mums favorite Band-Maid song too!

From my understanding and from interviews, Tony's involvement was strictly for the vocals only (and some small changes to the music to help the vocals). Kanami had already written all the music when Mike and Saiki when to NY to record the vocals. Pretty sure he had nothing to do with the video, that was probably done in collaboration with the band and their management..
BAND-MAID is an intellectual BAND that looks not only at broken hearts and love, but also at society and reality. Thinking about reality and the future strengthens BAND. For those who want only what they want to see, they are intelligent and independent. But unfortunately, even in Japan, singing the reality and problems of today's society is disliked. If such an evaluation continues, they will not sing such a theme.
