"On second thought, it does look so much better on the west side of the room". Just kidding. What a magnificent experience for these wonderful people! Breathless!
Beautiful restoration -- and fun video. Can any Britophile explain what the Presence Chamber is used for? Just a museum space at this point? Or does the "Presence" grace the space for some annual event?
geokrome The Presence Chamber was where the sovereign sat in state to receive visitors. This would be the closest most people would get to the king or queen. Beyond the Presence Chamber were the sovereign's private apartments where only personal servants, family and people of the highest rank would be admitted
The use of Velcro to hold together the trappings of wealth and royalty just speaks volumes. These works of art speak far more of the artisan than the purchaser who can barely lift a spoon to feed themselves without the assistance of a servant.
Amazing. But remember all the poor who didn't have a comfortable chair to sit on, or a bed or a blanket when they were tired, exhausted and cold. The throne canopy has to be admired in a context of wealth and abject poverty, subservience to royal power, social injustices and the wide spread inequality of period. The canopy and throne are just one of many historical perspectives of the same period.
It's always been the same, including in America. The president has the White House and the Oval Office, the poor have a trailer and IKEA if they are lucky.
The context of wealth: washer women, flower sellers, street cleaners, farriers all had shoes, coats, homes, food, beds, chairs and tables. Some of the poorest paid people in society.
Firstly, why is it stuck in a corner? That pretty disrespectful, seeing the symbolism a throne and throne canopy has and what they represent. Secondly, if so fragile, why are they attaching the pieces to boards and taking them up sideways? Why not take them up to the platform in their boxes and unwrap them there? Pulling at old fabric over and over, like shown in this clip, is not good at all. Starting to question the team taking care of Kensington Palace.
if the valances around the canopy are raised by strapping on a board and pulling apart velcro, Im sure the textile is strong enough to be brought to the canopy without too much pomp and ceremony, making conservation 75% faster. the other 25% happens when you do not chose snowflake employees who wants camera exposure.
James Hero did you know that HRP conservators are supposed to spend about 10% or their working hours involved in public engagement (things such as this)? It’s intended to help raise the profile of conservation and enable them to contribute to activities that bring in visitors. So not necessarily “snow flakes”.
What an exquisite creation, and the pride and happiness exhibited by the staff is lovely.😊
It’s so wonderful how much they have preserved of their past!❤❤❤
These artisans and craftspeople are truly amazing!

Queen Anne,a godly and courageous woman, who battled against illness, and much sadness in her personal life.
It's beautiful, but it seems odd to me that it is not centered.
What is the music that is playing?
I will never forgive myself for not getting a education so that I could do this kind of work. I would love to be able to have this kind of job.

Anglophile?

It looks as those the valances around the canopy of estate are held on by super-Velcro. Is that right? How do you know it won’t give way?
Space suits, worn by astronauts, is held together by strips of Velcro. This isn't the Velcro you can just buy at your local sewing shop.
What stunning color.
How did they do that back in the day
A good question. I'd imagine with tacks. After all it wasn't a fragile antique at the time.
They used Hedgehogs instead of velcro.
I wonder why her throne was situated in a corner of the room and not the centre?
Great video. That said, I could easily have watched 5 hours of this kind of footage.
Is this original as it was back then?
Yes, there are drawings and water colours used by room planners from the period. Good to have the original artefacts back where they belong.
I have no words 😧😮🤭☺️🇬🇧❤️
Is this a restoration?
No, it's a recreation
Is this what QUEEN Annes throne WOULD have looked like in her days as QUEEN
It's the one! Not a look alike
I just wish that i had the money to travel to London ENGLAND to the Royal palace where the Queens of England ruled from there Throne
The Velcro has me thinking too.
Maybe Velcro because when it comes time for spring freshening it’s the easiest way to get the pieces down.
Semper Eadem was Queen Elizabeth I’s creed.
It would freak me out to be below this! Especially as a sovereign!
Is Beautiful
She would have slept in a bed with a similar 'tester' Jackson.
Exactly who was Queen Anne?
Laura Huber The last British monarch of the Stuart line. Daughter of King James II, niece of King Charles II. She died aged 49 in 1714.
Google is your friend Miss America.
The level of ignorance is embarrassing
Not only that but Olivia Coleman won an Oscar for her portrayal of Queen about a year ago!
Pierfrancesco Modeo Misa as is the level of civility you are showing.
Es mas peligroso el vapor de la respiracion que todo lo que se ponen
Thst was her bed not throne!!!!

I didn’t know that Velcro was that old and you need gloves to handle it.

That was her bed not Throne.
why is there no narrative, just drama and no information?
There’s a blog I think in the link

James Hero perhaps you could share some video or photos of your conservation work?
Hero, they must be Libtard conservators influenced by Hillary Clinton's deep state death squad supporters.
These conservators are like maids and house staff if you think about it
I didn't like it these things can't make you happy 😕
They were never meant to. They were symbols. Bit worried about you. You can't have everything to make you happy, some things just are what they are.
