I'd have to go back in and look at it again, the old price guide lists Hero Complete as being 45 in 2002. Adjusted for inflation that would be 76.80, which is pretty close to its current value today (according to price charting). Most likely it got booted off this list by some games that had larger swings in overall percentage increases. HERO is an awesome game, so if this was "best games on the 5200" it would be on for sure.
Fun video! The 2002 price guide values seems questionable at best, but I understand wanting to use it as a baseline. I can tell you that when I was collecting these games around 2010-2015, the EBay prices were very reasonable for most of these, far under the 2002 prices. Got a boxed Meteorites for less than 100! (BBSB has always been ultra-rare and pricy though). A little surprised not to see Space Shuttle or HERO here… those are certainly among the harder to find games.
that’s a good point. I recently saw a CIB space shuttle on whatnot with an asking price of 150. I think that HERO and Space Shuttle were not in the top 25 most valuable in that 2002 price guide, which was my baseline. I will go back and double check. HERO is such a good game. would make my top ten 5200 games for sure.
@@teknohed I appreciate your desire to strictly adhere to your premise, but if any of the most valuable 5200 games in 2025 didn't make the cut, it might be nice to see them get an honorable mention before the #1 is named, or something like that. @sdamon, would you agree?
I think that the prices of actual physical cartridges have gone down because today most collectors now owns most of everything that came out for the system and plus emulators are now easily available for those looking for a little nostalgia.
I agree that most serious collectors for 5200 have what they want. But i also think there just aren’t as many people out there with nostalgia for 5200 like there are for other systems and as time goes by that number goes down as the old retro game guys die off. 😢
@@teknohed MegaMania has nothing to do with gameplay whatsoever. It's just a style of art that couldn't be 1978, and it couldn't be 1986, it's very specifically the early 80s. But on second pass, from a design nerd standpoint, I'd say Pitfall II has the most clever/thoughtful box design.
hell yeah astronaut vs robot ULTIMATE BATTLE
I think Hero should be on the list. That game is expensive.

That box art is fantastic. I thought it was funny the only box art image for Bounty Bob's has a huge rip in it.
That was the best i could find. that game is rare and in box is even more rare.

The box art on MegaMania slays. Zone Ranger a close 2nd.
I like beam rider and dreadnaught factor the best. Mega mania is good but not sure what it has to do with the gameplay.
