You're welcome Kayla! It gets a little tricky with the crown decreases, so be sure you use stitch markers to mark where those occur. You'll have to fish the cables around as the stitches get fewer and fewer. Make a couple of practice projects to get the hang of it. I still think it's easier than dpns. Full disclosure, this is not the best method for anything fancy like lace, unless it's one panel, and definitely not colorwork. But stripes or solid knitting does really well with this. Pattymac Makes this video was actually perfect for me because i’m knitting a slouchie kind of beanie, and I’m planning on switching from a gray brim you can fold up, to a solid black yarn. i am a little nervous about the decreases but i chose chunky yarn for this go around, so hopefully i will have an easier time with the stitching. I have never done decreases before so i am keeping my fingers crossed and using rubber bands as my place markers for now😂
liked video but have question, when you add extra row of knitting so you can do jogless technique on next row, do you count that "extra" row of knitting? Say your pattern calls for 4 rows of 2 X 2 ribbing then change color and pearl 4 rows, does knit row of transition between ribbing and pearling count?
Hi Gabriella! You count it as part of the pattern! So if it's 4 rows of k2p2, and you knit all the stitches in the first row to have the smooth join, it counts as row one. Rows 2, 3, and 4 will be knit in pattern. It seems so strange and you think it's going to be so obvious, but it blends right in. I hope that helps! Let me know!

I stumbled across your demo while working on a project that is actually knitting with circular needles as if in the round, however, pattern is also calling for German short rows so not technically working in the round since you go back and forth knitting and purling. Patty How to not cut yarn and carry old yarn up for 4 rows then switch to new? Is there any way with magic loop? I tried and ended up with colored vertical dashes as tried carring old yarn over and under at beginning of ML row.
You wind up with long pieces on the wrong side that can catch. And it can be a challenge to close up any "holes" you may have as you change yarn. If you cut and weave, it's a neater look. I only do these small accessory projects so I don't worry too much about it. But for a sweater in a lighter weight yarn it could be a bigger deal. You might check with people who make garments if that's what you like to knit. Though frankly, you will still have those short pieces that can get hung up. Sometimes, there is no shorcut. Unfortunately!! And dealing with ends when striping a knit fabric is just one of those things. I can weave in a cut end on a flat project as long as I'm knitting every stitch on the right side, but in the round is a bit different. I'm sorry I don't have a better answer!!

When the round or row is complete, then return to the pattern. When you added the first row of a different color, you did that extra pick-up stitch of the previous color. However when you switched back to the original color, it looks like you did not do that extra pick- up stitch until the second row. I am working the Star Spangled Kitty Hat and am wondering if I should do that extra pick-up stitch on the first row of every color change? Ps. Your videos have been a lifesaver!!
That is a great question!!! Ok, NO! I only picked up the lower stitch at the color change. That's because the spiral is not as obvious when you are in the same color, so you just continue your rounds as usual. But at the color change as you approach the end of the round, lift up the stitch to make it a smooth transition. I hope that helps. Maybe I should do another video on it showing it more in depth.
