  • The Schroll 32 has had a number of owners before Larry, and you see different layers of paint poking through under the black primer. When Larry bought the car it was already in black primer and from the old photos looked to be one single color. After sitting for years outside under a tarp, and in Larry's numerous garages, the old black primer has worn thin. Now there are a few places on the body where all paint is almost all gone, but there are some spots that we may be able to save. After testing a few small areas Matt feels confident that he will be able to bring back the green color that is hiding under that black paint. Wait till you see how much different the Schroll 32 looks with a new chrome windshield and rescued paint!!

Matt, you're like an archeologist carefully working to find a hidden gem underneath. The green suits the 32 for sure. I inherited my Grandmother's 70 year old China hutch almost 30 years ago and it had been sitting near her coal burning heater for years. It appeared to be made of cherry and I decided to see if I could bring back the Lustre of the wood so I bought some Homer Formsby furniture restorer and started on the side with some 4 ought steel wool. Somebody had placed a coat of varnish on the piece and after about 20 hours of work I discovered the hutch was made with tiger eye oak. Now about once a year I put on a thin coat of wood preservative and the piece is beautiful. Nice work Matt.

Such a difference, so much better. Reminds me of the petrol tank on my old 1950's Triumph motorcycle. I took off the brushed on black enamel and it was orange underneath, then purple under that and finally blue and white under that. It's now repainted blue and white.

Would have loved to see this thing in all it's glory running down the track. I'm loving the paint that was hidden all these years. Torn between preservation and restoration. My grandfather's 32 Tudor is sitting on jackstands under a carcover waiting to be driven again but the 55 F100 is a more comfortable ride with the Plymouth volare front clip.

I am not into the old rusty patina on many Rat Rods but that process you did gave the coupe an interesting look.
    AND !
I am SO glad to see that NASTY old windshield out of the car and kudos to ya on the chrome windshield frame score.
That happened at exactly the right time for the body treatment.
Now if you would if not replace, at least clean that rear window.
The coupe is coming along slow but steady and that seems to be a good thing.
Thank you for showing us the progess.

After all it is your Rod. Now I have shared a few child hood memories with you, here is one more that I shared with my wife yesterday as we were watching this episode. I have a brother 10 years my senior. When I was about 6 or seven( 1960-61) I got a peddle car tractor with a trailer for my birthday. My Dad was painting the house. My brothers friend took the paint brush and wrote A/G on the side of the tractor.. Ha!

Man that old color character will look great! A lot of hand work but a nice result.
