I would be quite interested in knowing how many people use Evernote to maintain task lists and calendars, they seem completely redundant features when we all have better task management and calendar apps. It’s like they needed to justify higher pricing so they added more tick boxes. Please Evernote, just be the best note app you can be. Improve things like outlining features and speed and reliability. We just want to love your product for who it is.
You are absolutely right. I love evernote for notes, but will never change my google calendar or apple todo list to evernote in this life.
Agreed. I only use Evernote for notes. Tasks and Calendar are a distraction
THIS
I use it for notes and will NOT be using their calendar. I have started to use the tasks feature but it's still a bit clunky.
I completely agree with this ☝️
I’ve used Evernote since 2013. And as a long time user, I haven’t been happy with what you guys have done with the app for the last 4 years. I only use the app now because it has my most valuable notes and projects. But it’s heartbreaking to see what Evernote has turned into. The old app was so simple and useful. And it was the best!
THIS. I have been working at many different IT companies as a backend developer / front designer / IT architect / consultant, and I can imagine where the mistakes come from:
- letting inexperienced designers have a huge impact on the front end (because you pay them less)
- not understanding as a manager the difference between good-looking and practical, and trusting the "UX" cool kids self-confidence. UX is just design. Stop the BS.
- not actually testing on real users / listening to feedback about every change you make. As a company maintaining an everyday productivity app, doing this about your front end is not a nice to have, it is a must.
- following latest design or industry trends without understanding what are your own promises to begin with.
- underestimating the importance of the UI change learning curve: do not break design on every update but instead introduce incremental changes towards a larger vision giving time to your users to adapt.
- not giving enough cutomization options to your users. You seriously don't expect millions of people to all have the exact same needs / habits / preferences, do you?
- trying to fit everything on a limited space for conflicting reasons: not knowing what users need most (see previous point), trying to advertise about features you want them to try out if they don't know them, using the landing page as YOUR hub (announcements, highlights) instead of the USER's hub.
I could go on.
Yup. I won't be renewing in August. Moving over to Notion.
Same here... listen to the lady...
@@davidroulin6173 Thank you for outlining this. Maybe Bending Spoons won't (be remembered as) Break Evernote if they take heed of the longtime users and those who understand both the development perspective and that of the user base.
I completely agree with you. It seems Evernote's team doesn't realize that the app is deteriorating. It's likely that inexperienced young developers are randomly making changes.
Long time user / paid subscription. Primarily use notes function. Want my home screen to automatically open to my 'to do' list as I had it before the 'upgrade'. Never use calendar or scratch pad. Need to be able to individualize my home page. Takes me multiple taps to get to where it use to be when I opened the app.
YES! I am also long time/paid subscriber. I only use notes. I like the new interface, but PLEASE, allow us to customize.
Takes longer now to get where I'm going. Like most people I've seen here I don't have a use for calendar or scratch pad.
Totally agree, that's the main reason for me to paid for the subscription.
But...they researched so much, they found the best way...except for you and me and everyone else who upvoted. I" wish this was a live chat q/a - let them tell us why we cant have customize options, even for the sidebar menu order. Madness.
Its crazy to not want to give the option to customize, or choose to use certain tools. And we are paying, long time customers...no option.
LONGtime paid user here (from the beginning). I 100% agree that we need to be able to remove what we never use, like audio, from our valuable home screen space and put pinned notes or a widget or two there.
I appreciate the desire for continual improvement. Personally, I prefer the Notebooks shortcut instead of the Calendar shortcut. I don't use calendaring inside of Evernote.
same
It's all designed with data collection in mind😂
I tend to view my personal calendar from Google Calendar. I can see that Shortcuts would be more beneficial on the bottom instead of Notes. That last version displayed looked good. I agree that 'Capture' is important. Capture function should also be prioritized, as important, as part of integration with other applications, for example, "Share" in other Apps displays Evernote as a capture option. I have no complaints about current functionality but want to make sure that this existing capability is not removed.
Same. Who in their right mind would use Evernote as a calendar?
Same
I agree with what one person said. Let us create the home page. I don't need scan, camera, files or audio at all on my home page where they are used so regularly. I need notebooks and notes. I can see some people needing the others but everyone is different so allow us to select the main home page options.
agree wholeheartedly!
yes!
Yes!
Since the update to the Evernote home on mobile my productivity has gone DOWN. I do not need some of the features that take up way too much screen space. The home on mobile is an immediate SKIP for me as I want to go to my notes list, sorted by most recent update. Sadly I cannot choose to have this list be my default landing view on mobile.
Please 1) let us customize how we use the app 2) stop adding feature after feature while your core job (note taking) still has glitches and performance issues.
This! I haven't updated the desktop app because I did a few builds ago and regretted it. So I reinstalled the old easy to use interface that has the text colors and features I use.
Guys, as a fellow product manager, also working in big tech, I advise you to stop trying to play catch up with notion. There is no point. Evernote is a product with more than a decade of existence and there are customers with really high product market fit. Understand your key users and find a way to make the product better for what they are using for and try to grow that user base. Trying to catch up with notion makes no sense. There are miles ahead in other direction. Be obsessed with the users, not the competitors. And even if after this you are not convinced, use a proper competitor, like obsidian. People use Evernote to create their second brain, not make a todo list or share project plans with coworkers.
correct
On point. If I wanted the features that Notion has I would stop using Evernote and use Notion, period.
on my (ageing) 2018 android phone, notion is very slow. i hope evernote will do a better job in creating quick notes (including capturing scans or photos)
At this point they just don’t seem to care what we want. But they’ll keep taking our money…They like doubled the price and added a bunch of crap very few people want to justify it
Soooooo on point.
Also the introduction of the video saying "we understood that people on mobile mostly want to capture things quickly"
1) so you're going to break the experience entirely for those who don't?
2) capturing things is "time sensitive" they say. Correct. But it does not mean you need to REMOVE something else. Just make it QUICKER TO CAPTURE SOMETHING.
3) the old home was too slow. The irony... The new home is extremely slow at loading content. I literally am not sure I clicked on buttons as the app gives no visual feedback when it starts loading something and the UI freezes.
Etc
Wouldn't it make sense to let the users be able to customize the home screen? Each person uses Evernote in a different way. One-fit-all is not possible. I have a task button that I have never used, it's useless to me but I'm sure it's valuable to others. I want to have a Notes button without going through menu. It appears to me Evernote mobile is being more oriented to creating the content but not as friendly to accessing what you already have.
Seconded. I have never created even a single task in Evernote, and was extremely annoyed when on Desktop, the Note and Task buttons were replaced by the "New" button, so it took two mouse movements and two clicks where previously one of each was enough... smh
Being able to customize the navbar on the bottom would be amazing
Same
Same. I've also never used the Scratch Pad, and can't imagine a use for it myself. With the increase in subscription fee and the decrease in utility--at least for my purposes--I'm looking for alternatives.
Same here, I don't need tasks and calendars in Evernote. It was, it is and will be a note taking app for me and now they have killed my customized start view and replaced it with items I never will use and which I can't show on/off, I'm so annoyed!!!
I’ll miss Pinned Notes. That was super helpful on the Home Screen.
i use the shortcut for that
@@thePpaezr Thanks! That works just as well for me.
@@martywong That is still 2 clicks away, is it not? Pinned notes was super useful.
Same. Pinned notes and shortcuts need to be on Home Screen.
@@ToddSinclair Yes, it’s a few more clicks which is annoying. Would much prefer them on the Home Screen like the widget.
Long time, Evernote user, absolutely hate this new update. I can’t quickly create a notebook, can’t find my notebooks easily. I use this product basically for notes and notebooks. Don’t like this change at all.
On the home button or screen, there should be some kind of question like what are you using our product for? And then allow people to EASILY customize it to what is important to them. I don’t need a Camera and other functions on my home screen.
I’ve just spent a few minutes in complete frustration with this update, total total disaster. Very upset with Evernote right now. Thanks Evernote for making my life just so much more frustrating and harder. Open to any suggestions from anyone for alternatives to this fiasco. that is now Evernote.
EXACTLY
True...
Totally agree
What used to take me 1 click on the Home Screen now takes 2-3 clicks. I very much liked the ability to customize Home Screen and not be forced a predetermined interface.
What is the point is wasting 3rd of the screen in the top real-estate telling me that its My Evernote?? Of course its mine, I just opened it! Also I know the date, if I don't then I can go look at my iphone calendar! Why would I need Evernote to tell me the date! Where do you get your research from for these changes?
Totally agree.
Your thumb doesn’t reach that part … so … 🤷🏻
@@jonathanrwegnermy thumb can reach my entire phone screen.
@@jonathanrwegner Doesn't mean it can't show other info that's relevant. They could let us customize that part...
Good point!
I'm grieving the abrupt, non-consensual eradication of my CAREFULLY DESIGNED home page. I had my widgets set up exactly the way I wanted. Now it's just...gone.
My widgets and pinned note! I really relied on that.
I just found you can get them back. Close out the app, then open and tap the profile icon on the top left. If you choose "widgets" you get the old Home Screen back.
Exactly. Evernote "advances" seem to always slide backwards. My Widget was the perfect opener.
@@HelenBKennedy Thanks!!
@@HelenBKennedy Awesome - Thank you it worked great🤗
Let the user choose if they want the widget as default or the new screen. Having to make 2 extra taps to access widgets everytime I open the app makes it a pain in the ass.
Exactly.
It has taken me more than 2 clicks to locate what I had on my home screen. 😢
Having a strong emotional attachment to a brand, it's very sad to realize that you may need to look for alternatives.
Now I don't have a single function on my home screen that I use at least once every 4-6 months. The usual navigation through notebooks or notes now requires additional actions, and the old widget screen can only be returned temporarily.
It would be really cool to be able to choose. I was satisfied with the speed of the app and the app itself met my needs by 90%, because I could quickly access the materials I needed. And now - even when I get used to it - it will become more difficult, requiring additional actions.
I really hope that you will add the ability for users to choose the functionality they need but I still appreciate the work you do
I'm looking for something to replace the bloated, oft-revised, less-useful Evernote. If any you find such a thing, please share it here. I'll take paid or free. But for Evernote to become another Wordprocessor and/or Outlook and/or Calendar, etc., just keeps me from doing my work. Thanks!
For. Real.
This version is TERRIBLE
@@leahmorris973 We pay much more for Evernote now, but we get much less. Updating today, we lost some work. The new product no longer does what we need a note-taking, note-storing, note-sharing app to do. We're looking for decent options. Open Source looks promising. Good luck!
@@gozorabat9720 I feel the same, I am fed up with their changes all the time. Now it has become liek OneNote, just confusing and all over the place. Have you found anything decent?
so much grief--- & i'm angry cuz I spent a boatload of time over the decade+ i've been with evernote making it just what I want. I do NOT want to spend my precious spare time converting everything to an app that does what evernote USED TO DO well 😭😠
There seems to be a continual push to enabling features of the app that I suspect the typical home user never uses - calendar, tasks etc. This update has made the whole experience far worse for me: it now takes three taps to get to a particular notebook and - much worse ! - a search at that point is not constrained within the notebook, nor is 'notebook' available in the filters. That pretty much breaks the entire notebook model.
Agree - I am a long time user. I never use CALENDAR or TASKS.
The last slide suggests that you're trying to decide whether the bottom bar should provide access to Shortcuts OR Notebooks. For me, it's important to have access to both. Could the bottom bar be configurable? I'd personally remove the Calendar button to make sure I can access Shortcuts and Notebooks, but other users might have different preferences/workflows.
I second this.
I third this
Same for me. Also the tasks. @Evernote please consider you also have a lot of users that actually dont use tasks and calendar at all. Those are two useless buttons for me. Please let me have my widgets in at least one of them
Thanks for the feedback!
Totally agree with this idea. Wanted to suggest the same. I would also prefer to be able to acces the Shortcuts and the Notebooks. The calendar is not that relevant for me (at this time at least) to have it always on Home Screen. Instead Notebooks is how I know where everything is. This was the logic behind Evernote from the beginning. 🙂
But why did you take away the Home Page? why? everyone uses Evernote in their own way now I have to use multiple taps to get to my home page, but why??? In the last year continuous changes but worsening of the user interface, modified with useless things. You want to do something useful, then create the possibility of having links within the same note, to be able to create a sort of index in very large technical notes. thank you very much
The customizable home page, with luster, was my #1 favorite feature
I hate that when I create I can’t do it in the notebook I want the note in. Having to move it from the first note to the notebook I want is a pain. I hate the new system because if it. I also liked when I could go to a notebook and search easily within the notebook. I miss that as well
Seconded
Great feedback, thank you!
WTF? Evernote removed the ability to create a note right in the notebook where you want it? Do you your devs and top brass understand your market? Apparently not.
Oh no!! You can't create a note within a notebook anymore? Why would they take that out, are they trying to kill the app? I really hope this comes back. At least empower us keep our notes well-organized, and empower users to get deep in their focus and keep creating without breaking flow, as Evernote has done for a long time
@@evernote Pleaaase let me remove the calendar and task in the navbar. And replace it with Tags and Notebooks. It takes a lot of taps for me to get something I use all the time. I only use this app for notes.
I’m sorry, I didn’t like it. The main reason to use Evernote is that it was very customizable. I’m not using tasks or calendar on Evernote, it doesn’t make sense to me. Why do I have to have the access in the tab bar for it? How many users are using this feature? Are you trying to push this into people? This clearly don’t have product market fit based on the feedback we are seeing here
Totally agree, though I have the feeling that users not using tasks or calendar might be a minority. Wish I could at least change the bar.
Why is this being forced on me. It is as though you have no idea who your customer is. I smell a train wreck coming.
Agreed! The customizable feature was my favorite!
@@michaelh.gerloff3659 that makes no sense. just give the option. just because you like tasks doesn't mean it should sit in my main bar 24/7 with no use.
Seconded! I dont tasks and calendars at alllll. Please let me have books and tags there.
I hate this. I miss my favorite notes on my Home Screen. I load notes way more than create new ones.
I agree 100% I use Evernote track my initial cost price of stocks, see my most recent study notes, login IDs, passwords etc. BRING BACK my favorite notes on the Home Screen. 😠
Please stop "improvising" and just get the basics going again (which is what is not happening). I am now actively looking elsewhere. Evernote used to be so good, simple, and effective in taking notes. 😢
We are actively looking elsewhere, too. Evernote, with each change (A) takes longer to re-learn and (B) provides more features that Duplicate our office suites, (C) while letting down in those emergencies where we need to take quick notes. A multi-year disaster of overreach, for too-great an increase in cost. Let me know what alternative you find, and I'll do the same. Thanks.
Me too. Evernote is so buggy now. Web clips fail more often than they work. Please get back to basics and fix all the broken stuff. If anyone finds a good alternative, please let me know also. So tired of Evernote walking away from their core market.
Same problem. Clipping / share does not work on either of my mobile devices
It lags on all my devices MacBook Pro, iPhone, Win. Yes, I have 5+k notes. But it’s terrible if you waiting 5-10-15 seconds to create new or find existing note. I’m crying. 😢 so I use another lite notebook to fast creation and sometimes move it to Evernote.
I use evernote but you're right, I now use Journey app. It automatically dates, allow you to create your own templates & drop it in a new note by selecting it. It does have hypertext support. Also, allows to tag location/temp, keywords & mode of transportation (Handy if you were on a plane / bus / eating etc and weeks later you remember you were at a luncheon and you wrote a few quick notes from listening to a keynote speaker, you can check by past activity for it. 😊
I use Evernote the other way around: I store information which I would like to access on the go. On a trip for example. So please bring back the ability to access the latest notes. Thank you.
I don't mind the new layout, but the bottom bar definitely needs to be customisable as many people are suggesting. I don't use evenote tasks or calander. And don't need a notes tab, I have millions of notes, if i need to find a note, I would just search? Or go to my notebook stacks.
I would probably set mine ups as follows. "Create" "Notebooks" "widgets or shortcuts" "new note" "scan" or a specific notebook.
I look forward to the next, more flexible update.
Shortcuts is by far the most important thing for me for the homepage, and it's the first I have for both mobile and windows homescreens. If shortcut is not available as an option at the homepage itself, then a button has to be down at the navbar.
For the love of God quit changing the interface every darn week. No one wants to continually spend their time relearning the tool instead of using it. And please quit make ng it less reliable. It now eats newly created notes on mobile necessitating duplicate entries. It also doesn't always allow offline mote access on the desktop. GRRRR
They should fire the CEO and the whole bunch of incompetents. They distroyed this beautiful app while doubling the price for subscription. At least in Romania, from where I am.
AGREED!! I have wasted SO MUCH TIME JUST LOOKING FOR MY %#*! NOTEBOOKS!!!
I am very, VERY ANGRY!
I’m actively looking for a replacement. Too expensive for the hassle. Stop using your users as F-in BETA TESTERS!! We have paid A LOT of $ to avoid this.
If I wanted to use Apple notes, I would. Now, I WILL!!
This just made my mind up. I'm moving everything to my free Microsoft account, at least until I find something better. Evernote USED to be better. Not so much of late...and while still raising prices. Feels as though they're trying harder to make the company look more valuable to prospective buyers than to maintain what was (once) a superior piece of software. Evernote had once upon a time set the bar ridiculously high for the competition. Now they can't even see it anymore; they've fallen so far below it.
@@stephglenn eu estou usando o Notebook da empresa Zoho. Faça um teste no app. Tem caderno, notas e tags. É muito bom.
THIS!!! "If it's not broke, fix it."
Its looks nice and I’m sure it helps many people. For me it’s even worse than before. I never use the task function nor the “new note” function on the home screen because I work with stacks and notebooks. So if I want to create a new note I open the according notebook first.
For me I’d prefer to see all my stacks and notebooks first thing. Now I must do two clicks to see that every single time
Ha-ha! The first time I was forced to use the new mobile interface, I created a note as I've always done, then changed to a related app for some cut-and-paste---and could not find the new note! Only after starting over and making the new note did I see the first, now-blank note in the list of notes. Somewhere. We don't have the time or inclination to keep learning and re-learning and re-learning. We have actual work to do. Thanks.
Why not have a shortcut to the 'old' Home screen? Unilaterally removing function that so many of your users spent so much time tailoring to their own needs is not a good move. IBM had a policy in their software that once a function was in place, it never went away, because someone was using it as defined in the user guides. You will get a lot of push-back on this.
Let the user choose what they want!! That was the whole point about having a customizable homepage. Give everybody a simple (and fast) one to start with, and if they want they can add widgets, in line with how they want to use Evernote. When I for instance want to quickly capture something, I want to add that to an existing note. I completely customized my homepage for that purpose, with the most important notes pinned on top. And all of a sudden that is now gone - how unreliable is my daily tool?! I want my homepage back! This is not improvement, but a sign that Evernote has lost the way.
I would love to be in a focus group next time as someone who has been using Evernote for 10+ years with a paid personal version .. I don’t capture notes in mobile version (cause reality is that iPhone notes are still better for quick on the go notes) and I mainly use Evernote to create structured notes from the laptop or even moving unstructured notes from iPhone notes to Evernote where I keep information. Hence I spent time adjusting widgets on Mac, iPad & iPhone ensuring that I can quickly access all critical notes from widgets. It all disappeared with this upgrade. 😢
So imagine my customer journey to quickly check recipe for a favorite oatmeal - it was 1 step right from the homepage, now 5 (!) and I have to start with a tiny “notes” button.
Please don’t do the same with a laptop version - shortcuts to the specific notes & notebooks was the best invention !
This is a great improvement. As a long-term user (over a decade), I am very happy to see Evernote's increased speed of innovation over the last few years.
Evernote: Great news, you can now customize your homepage with widgets and make it more productive for your style.
A short while later.....
Evernote: "Great news...now you can't....again...unless you're on your laptop...because who wants a consistent layout from phone to computer?"
You can still get to the old homepage

@@JoshStasio884 Thanks. :-D.
I saw that when I was digging around but it seems like an aweful lot of fuss, especially when it randomly takes you back to the "mobile" interface. It's too bad they didn't give the option to choose which one you want as a default.
@@JoshStasio884yeah it doesn’t stick if you’ve closed the app, meaning when you open it you now have a far top left tap (the hardest to reach w one handed phone use) and a mid left tap (also bad spot)… I honestly wonder if the ppl making these changes even use the app themselves..

Long time Evernote user since 2011 here. Although change is always hard at first, I’m learning how to use the new interface and thankful you guys are streamlining Evernote so it’s cleaner and faster. Thats always good in the long run.
r u stupid?
💚💚💚
I've also been using Evernote since I think 2011! I've rolled with many changes and have liked some less or more than others. Been paying for the premium version for several years. I'm glad I actually watched this tutorial (because it auto loaded when I clicked that I was interested in learning more) because this will enhance my experience of the new interface!
but its so slow now! It's insane how a note program can be so laggy and slow. That's not going to get resolved using the platform they've developed the new versions on. I hear all these comments from people that are so stuck with the program due to all the data they have in it, but it IS possible to leave it and import your notes into something else. I did, couldn't be happier.
Too much “improvement” is sometimes TOO MUCH. Let us choose our Home Screen.
Agreed "No Diggity Doubt About It!" This is "EVERNOTE" "EVERY" thought, poem, quick reference, song, story and pleading petition via prayer I "NOTE" is "EVER" Personal. Allow us to CO-create our memories, goals, ideals, personal opportunities and life along with you!!!
I don't use calendar or tasks id rather prefer if i can costumize the navigation bar
Please leave the ability to use the main page with widgets without an additional two clicks. All my convenience was in the pinned note and shortcuts combined on the main screen. I'm very upset by the innovations. Please leave the option to choose which page will be the main one.
@Evernote please consider you also have a lot of users that actually dont use tasks and calendar at all. Those are two useless buttons for me. Please let me have my widgets in at least one of them. I love the old dashboard and totally miss it. For me this is not an improvement but made the UI worse.
I think you can differentiate your users group in 2 groups. The ones that use tasks and calendar (who like the improvement) the people that only use it for notes (that dont like it and wanna customize the navabar). Ive been a user since 2011 and love you guys. Please please please stay focussed on being a powerful NOTES app. That’s means working table of contents on mobile and a powerful search.
Thank you for all the efforts. You are also making a lot of great changes and you’re communicating better with us than ever before.
Concrete:
- i Love the shortcuts and note being in the nav.
- i miss search, notebooks and tags in the bottom nav
- in the notes section, the notebooks button is too difficult too reach, better move that whole secondary navbar down as well.
Awesome improvements!!! Eliminated not being able to access existing notes from home page! Love it
I'm glad you put video directly on app. I never knew about your RUclips channel. And always despised that there seem to be no customer support. Just asking people to go to a forum. I am excited to explore what other videos you have now. And it's nice to know that there's humans that work at Evernote
There is still no customer support. First try to find how to create a support ticket... then wait.... and wait... and wait...
@@ralphdavis3734 Yeah, they're customer support is almost nonexistent. Every time I have tried to contact them I either get ignored or get a copy paste response that covers things I had said I already tried or are just plainly irrelevant to what I am asking. Also they never read their forums, so you only have other users helping out. (and there are a few users that really have that elitist attitude on the forums and will berate you for the smallest thing.)
I am scared to hear about your experience with the lack of costumer support. I needed their support in 2019 and they were absolutely phenomenal. It really impacted my fidelity to Evernote and made me encourage colleagues to acquire it.
Quite scared to learn they let it fall…
I’m thrilled to see the changes that have been made within the app and I’m particularly pleased with the addition of the elongated and more accessible search bar. Thank you for putting in the work to consistently adapt, evolve, and improve to make one of my favorite apps so user-friendly!
The "+ Create" icon is mislabeled in my opinion. It should be "Home".
It doesn't create anything, just brings you back to home from where ever you are.
Hi. Please have shortcuts on the home screen. I use mobile to reference stuff quickly as much as I do to capture stuff. Thanks. Love the changes.
Yes. Same here. I find it ironic that “shortcuts” now require four nav taps. Not very short.
Agree. Give an option to customize and add shortcuts to home page
Same here - shortcuts to home screen please
Thanks for the feedback!
YES PLEASE. Plus...I don't need a third of the screen to say "Hello" to me.
I love Evernote so much! And I was afraid that it would no longer be a useful tool for me. And you're bringing Evernote back to its essence. Thank you for this!
The more I use Evernote mobile with the new home, the more I like it. I’ve even started using tasks a lot more now. Thanks!
Brilliant. I’m so happy Evernote is innovating and listening to customers feedback.
The best app for note taking, organizing notes, bookmarks, audio, and video. I have ever used. Thank you for adding the AI function and continuously improving it.
Evernote finally had a unified interface across all devices, and now things are being disrupted on mobile. For quickly creating notes, tasks, scans, or other items, you already have the home screen widgets. You don’t need to open the app for that. The app is actually used for consulting information, and the current Evernote home is ideal for that. So please build in the option to continue using the current Evernote home.
Not ideally what you're asking for, I believe, but if you click on your profile image, you have My Widgets and that's the old Mobile Home experience.
@rsidneysmith you already had the create option, fully customisable buttons on the old screen. The Widgets this way have completely lost they use, since you have to make 2 more taps everytime to access them
@@rsidneysmith Thanks!
@@RonPhillips04 Sure thing.
Just give us the choice! I use the app first to edit the working note, then for reference to other notes, THEN to create a new note. Your suprr homepage is just USELESS to me, and an annoying waste of time. I never asked for it. I just want to have a quick access to my notes. Is it really too much to ask, as a customer, from a note-taking app?
As a experience designer myself, I deeply appreciate how you've taken the time to surface and share this part of your research, testing, and iteration. 💙 As a long time user myself (can't even remember how long now... before Penultimate integrated with it!) I was one who submitted feedback about the Evernote Home experience I received during these iterations. What I just saw in the app today is much, much better for how I use it on mobile. Thank you for continuing to evolve the product with a human-centric lens.
I prefer the previous version. Can I revert back to it? Now I have to go to Settings > My widgets to see my pinned notes. Very annoying! This completely changes the way we use Evernote. You should let the user decide which way to go, instead of assuming one way works for everyone.
Exactly. It’s like the benefit of pinned notes has disappeared. That was my number one functionality for this app.
@@ErikStenbakkenI too am learning the new layout and I’m trying to understand the frustration many users are experiencing w/ the removal of Pinned notes when you can make a note a Shortcut and immediately access it (and your other Shortcut notes) in the new horizontal navigation buttons at the bottom? Does Pinning a note somehow behave differently than making it a Shortcut note and that’s why people are upset? I may be missing/overlooking something.
I don't care about the home screen. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO THE NOTES LIST?! With all this clutter, I can only see three notes on my iPhone 13 mini. Before, I was able to see five! Also, why is there a huge Edit button…. when all you have to do is tap anywhere in a note to edit it?
Go to the options button on the notes list, press view options, and change it to small and unclick “show images, body text and tags”
@@tonyoramos1 Are you serious? I want to have the full real estate of my iPhone used. I don't want to have tiny notes w/o thumbnails.
Please Can I as user decide which screen is most use-full for me? The former start page on my mobile app was more use-full than the new one, I use Evernote mostly for finding and editing notes en less for creating new notes. So I agree with most of this discussion
I'm back to Evernote thanks to this best yet mobile app. If the 'slim' design is why it's faster then I hope it stays simple. Currently, I have the Notebooks button in the Navigation Bar which is exactly what I want. I assume if I add shortcuts then the buttons will switch places. Thus, I am using no shortcuts as I had before. Maybe which one is in the Nav bar will be an option. But, I'm happy with this and glad to have Evernote back.
I hated it when you first rolled it out. But when I finally got around to watching the video and saw *why* you did what you did, I was like, OK! This works!
Thank you!
I love this app for the notes, the notes should be right on the homepage when it opens up or at least have a default option when you open the app to go to the particular section you want to go to.
Where did my pinned notes go? Did they just disappear? I need to find them. They were not shortcuts so now I can’t find them.
Long time user here (from 2008) The new mobile homepage looks fantastic. Exactly what is needed on mobile exactly for the reasons you mentioned. Thnx! So glad that Evernote is now innovation quickly and in the right direction.
Same. Same.
I loved old home. Let us choose in settings which home to use. I don't like the new one, all the widgets are gone. But as always we have to swallow it and get used to it.
They're still available by clicking on your profile image then My Widgets. Hope that helps.
@@rsidneysmith I know bro, but the point of the home with widgets is to be always at hand.
@@rsidneysmithThank you!
@@ErikStenbakken Sure thing, Erik.
THANK YOU! Thank you for making Shortcuts easier to get to in this new mobile release.
I was a user who would soon submit a complaint about the notes I access often being more difficult to get to (referring to the 50/50 UI).
YES, Shortcuts is bottom-center now - the best location for the button!
@Evernote seriously, you all nailed it with this UI update. 🎉
We're so glad you like it!
I think it's a good change. The lest users need to click and swipe and scroll, the better.
A long time user / paid subscription. I've been using Evernote for about 14 years. You're never going to please everyone but the fact that you're listening to your users and constantly making adjustments to suit as many as possible is exactly why I keep using and paying for Evernote. Thank you.
I would love to know where they are getting feedback. I’ve never seen requests that I recall
I almost never comment on RUclips, but thank you so much for this update. You finally fixed so many of the issues that I had with Evernote on iOS and it feels 10 x faster. Keep up the good work.
Please make it so you can lock a note from being edited thank you
Would love it
Yes I agree.
This is a feature that have been requested for years but ignored by Evernote
Thanks for the suggestion!
It would be nice!
I’ve been using Evernote for over 10 years, I use it every every single day. This is by far the best upgrade. it’s exactly what I was looking for a place to easily store. My ideas on mobile and then I can access them and delegate schedule or just do a particular task or note… great job guys!
Hi, I am really looking forward to the changes in mobile app. 90% of the time I need quick access to 2-3 notes, review tasks and sometimes add new tasks. Right now the home screen is totally does not fit my needs which makes me really sad each time I open the app.
This is the way an app is supposed to be developed. Your company has done wonders with an app I've used since 2008. I almost gave up on it several times but stuck with it because I could store almost anything. The big difference now is it's so much easier to use and access, so keep up the good work!
Thank you, looking much better and more modern!
an app may look more modern and yet take users years back in apps' usability! And this is what the latest mobile upgrade done.
Been using Evernote for many years. Use it all the time, everyday.
Shortcut bar at the bottom:
1. Customizable.
2. If unable to customize, remove Tasks. Most or none of us use it.
3. Replace Notes with Notebooks.
Thank you for the new version. It looks great. You are definitely on the right track. Please continue with the great work.
Thank you! You've done exactly what I needed. Evernote is an excellent task manager--I've been using it for that for over 10 years.
I do like the pictures that were on the home page, they made it seem more relaxing, at least for me.
Me encanta evernote. He ocupado todas las apps de notas y siempre acabo volviendo a esta. La ocupo principalmente como enciclopedia personal y como un diario. Amo que no la dejen morir y a pesar de una década sigan actualizando. La mejor app de notas.
This is an excellent change. I am impressed with the degree of consultation and prototyping that you now do before making these changes. Thanks
Thank you! We want to be sure we introduce changes that are helpful and relevant to the most number of people. 💚
Thank you for the notificatin via video. I find it so much easier to understand what is happening when it is visually presented. 👍
You are assuming that I always want to start creating something instead of finding existing notes. Argggghh! Hated it! Please let me go back to the previous version!
But notes are right at your thumb at bottom of screen.
Idk when you read through the comments you fall into the minority. The all nites button is right there at the bottom navigation bar. LITERALLY one click away…. I feel like these guys went over a dozen iterations did a long study and research into why they should make this UI and UX change. It was probably not like the ux designer woke up one day and said hey fu*k it let’s just make it this way and see lol
@@TheBalkanSpy My personal experience has been just as bad as what you mock. Every few days, a new "update" appears, and I need to relearn how to use what is, for me, first and foremost, a note-taking app. I can't list each and all of the changes that I must go through, in order to learn a new app, just to do my work. Maybe I'm too-old to use Evernote, as the interface changes too-quickly. In the new iteration, my first choice for finding a note is to enter info into a search bar. I often don't know where to begin, to think of what to enter. It's good that you are happy. Our group is searching for something (1) that works better for our needs, (2) that doesn't change at the convenience and apparent whim of the provider, and (3) let's us do our actual work instead of working to learn the new interface.
I LOVE the speed of which you're innovating the app. Thank you.
Long time Evernote user since 2011. It's a pleasure to follow the evolution of Evernote. It is extremely useful for my day-to-day life. The new interface seemed cleaner and simpler to use. I liked the changes.
Version 8 was so much faster and easier to use.
@@ralphdavis3734perhaps version 8 met your needs best. Yet, your definitive needs are not identical to every other user. So many comments appear to assume all updates developed should be tailored specifically to them, without considering how many users operate Evernote in entirely different ways. Most of the favorable remarks express that the improvements have produced better results. Evernote has been transparent every step of the way. Walking us through the modifications, asking for feedback, listening, and then applying our ideas to deliver an improved experience. Some hate change so much that they will look for reasons to complain. There's nothing wrong with giving feedback (both negative and positive). Adults should be able to provide constructive feedback instead of rudely whining like a bunch of Karens who deem their personal opinions should override everyone else. As technology grows we must evolve with it. I may not love every new feature or I might need time to put it to use. I do know that no other note/file app/website comes close to providing the qualities of Evernote. And no other app that I've tried has considered every single user's sentiments. That says a lot.
Thanks for the chance to give feedback, much appreciated. I like the Nav Bar, great concept. This version is a big improvement over the previous (frustrating) iteration. I like that when you hit a Nav Bar button, there is also more internal navigation at the top (eg notes -> notebooks, tags, shared)
The assumption that creation is more important than navigation on mobile is totally wrong for me. I almost always use mobile. The main point of Evernote for me is to be a second brain with better recall - to hold all the things I won’t remember otherwise and access them easily on the go, anytime. The main advantage of Evernote over the free Notes app on my iPhone is organizing my notes according to my own logic, and accessing information easily (minimal clicks and scrolling despite high volume of notes), in a visually appealing way.
The key things for me are: shortcuts and notebooks, then notes. I want single click access to these. Tasks are not as key. Calendar is useless for me.
The fixes for me would be:
1. Notebooks, Shortcuts and Notes on the Nav Bar, maybe tasks. A customizable Nav Bar would solve most problems as people use Evernote differently.
2. Most recently viewed - not just most recently edited - note on the homepage or on notes page (maybe where reminders are now..). This is an ongoing pain point for me (eg, I keep my recipe book on Evernote and it’s frustrating to have to navigate to notebook then to the specific recipe note every time my phone closes the screen when I’m cooking).
3. I miss pinned note, it was handy.
While here on feedback, I’d still really like a way to do internal links in a note please!
Again, thanks for asking and for your work.
I am on board with these comments - me too - evernote is my second brain
Missing the unified home screen of all platforms. Refering back to stuff is made slower now with the only focus on creation. Where have the widgets gone? Will all scratchpads be still visible on home? And what about tablets with large screens?
Omg I love EVERNOTE I use it more than the individual notepad apps. This new update is giving me life shine bright✨💫
Can't wait for this update! It seems very useful!
Thank you for bringing back shortcuts!!
Thank you, you are listening! I was part of interviews about this and sou dod great job! 💪 wish you continue on the right things in the right direction!
Thank you for taking the time to speak with us-we really appreciate it! 💚
The new starting page makes absolutely sense. I love it!
I love love love the new design! So much more intuitive and less clunky than the old design
I've been using Evernote since 2001 but a few years ago was almost ready to give up because it was so buggy and sync was so very hit and miss. Over the past year it has improved greatly though and this new landing page for my mobile looks great! It certainly does make it a lot easier to create a new note. Thanks for all the hard work you're putting into this and I'm looking forward to see see what developments you have coming up in the future!
I really like the new interface. And I write as someone who has despaired about Evernote for the last 5 years or so. The new interface looks great. Huge search field at top of screen, plus immediate ability to create a note (as opposed to having to choose what to create). Thank you.
From my experience it is generally a bad idea trying to streamline all user to an average. Every user is an individual and should be "handled" like this. I don't care if the average of users like an approach if it doesn't support my way to deal with stuff. It's the same as with quality. I don't care a sh*t for 99.99999... % quality if I get the single faulty piece. Let the user decide his preferred setup of the start screen. The problem with speed is not in the design of the startscreen but in a unsuitable platform for mobile devices that has to load way to much data & configuration from servers instead of storing them locally and update them behind the scenes only when it does not bother the user.
I enjoy the new interface. It's somewhat more minimalistic and modern. I'm a Pro subscriber for almost a year now.
I use Evernote mobile to access my notes and my shortcuts. Please make it possible to get fast access to one or a few notes and notebooks. As a journaler, I want instant access to this days journal.
Also, please use a 24 hour system for the calendar. Why use a 12-hour system when there are 24 hours in a day?
Support the requests that the evernote calendar be set to 24 hours.
Really love the transparency and explanation! Thank you for listening and continuing to improve it! Evernote seems like it's making a great turnaround! 💚
super good work you‘re doing - I‘m back enjoying Evernote on Mobile!
I love it, and it's been a long time since I've been pleasantly surprised by an Evernote change 🎉
It made my life easier, congratulations.
Thanks for adding the navigation buttons to the homepage in the latest version. I was so frustrated that I couldn't get to my shortcuts / tasks / calendar easily when it's in the "Full Creation" mode version.
I like it alot. Much fewer clicks for me in general. When I'm in a meeting or someone days something important, I can quickly create a note through the first screen without risking missing the info. I do get the feedback from some users who want to customize every inch, but I can see the best of both worlds if future updates. This update saved the subscription for me. Thumbs up.
Not a fan. It’s like you came in and rearranged my kitchen based on feedback from others. Even by adding a note to shortcuts, it now takes me four taps to get to it - and I used to be one tap :( For quick access to frequently used notes, this is a big step backwards.
I love this description. Also, spot-on.
I love the metaphor, too. After using this product for many, many years, and paying, and then even paying More because it's easier than finding a new product, now that the product works so bad, I can rustle through my kitchen myself, and find sojmething better, faster, cheaper, for note-making, note-reading, note-sharing. Just keep your d@mn Evernote hands out of my drawers!😂
I am loving that your update details took me to a RUclips video! I never sit and click through update details so this is the first time I’ve ever actually known the changes.😂
For those who prefer to see their notes right upon entry into the app, why not allow that configuration choice? There doesn't have to be a 1-size fits all approach and I don't see how giving basic choices has to increase complexity.
