Guessing how Google analyzes and ranks sites is just like being a day trader for 20 yrs and still taking losses. Simply there is no actual way to statistically predict the algorithm yet if you were to chose a way to actually make money being a day trader Is far superior compared to SEO. in fact SEO is a total waste of time.

Google failed and we still try to optimise content to satisfy that failed algo. Instead of focusing on ranking genuine amateur content sites, they now rank optimised corporate garbage.
What makes you think this is not by design ? Given the money big "whatever" whirls around they could just pay up ( unofficially of course ) and funnel traffic to their own business. It's just a "is it worth it and does it make business sense" question for them.
Secret today is to lean on other means of driving traffic like social media and targeted advertising.

100% garbage, I’ve seen a ton of people that have high quality content get hit with the last update.

Google is going 100% pay to play while they profit off of everything you put online. No longer feels like Google is in 'fair use' territory these days.

I’m nine minutes into this video and I just had to stop it to tell you that this is such good information. It goes beyond the usual SEO and keywords, ETC. and I also like how you tied in using ahrefs, because sometimes when using ahrefs I may only use one or two things. so you’re now educating me on how to get even more value from the software. Which that value I can use to help my clients even more.

It was a joy to watch Sam Oh diagnose and walk us through the traffic drop analysis. It proves that in many cases, even though you didn't do anything wrong, there is a chance that the site might be hit by a Google update and that happens. Another great thing is about sticking to the fundamentals of search, specifically creating something that meets the search intent. Another awesome video by Ahrefs and I always say that whatever Ahrefs do it always meets EXCELLENCE. Thank you to all the Ahrefs team.

They literally tanked the little traffic i built up over the last 7 years, like the guy in your video i own every product ive reviewed. We go to the places we cover, and try to add value through live coverage, and engaging posts. They still tanked us, im not even spamming affiliate sales.

All this analysis are completely waste. Google is becoming rude and telling all of us content creator, I am the boss and I'll do whatever I want to do. That is why monopoly is dangerous. This man makes totally original, informative content with all the original stuff then why the heck Google didn't understand and punished his website that was making him $20k/month. WTH is wrong with Google?. The search giant is behaving weird since last few years. We all must boycott Google.

@@AhrefsCom no I did not unfortunately- traffic wasn’t big like TFF but it was my first attempt to building an online business. Went from ranking for hundreds to thousands of keywords to being completely taken off SERPs. I only get traffic from Pinterest and Reddit for that site

Asides from drop in traffics, how else can I tell if my site was affected by this?
You can't. We could say that Jake's site got hit by the Update because the sudden drop in traffic matched the Update date. Not just any drop in traffic means your website was hit by an update.

Thanks for the video. So what are the findings? The hard facts? Can someone summarize this?
(I think Google is completely out of control - they are throwing themselves into the fight to shut down AI blogs, but they are also hitting many others who are doing it with power and passion. The crash of the project in the video shows it: from thousands of visitors to 0 - and no, that is not justified or normal!)
I recovered from the august core update, just gotta use your brain and understand what google wants from you

I am getting tired of this whining. No one is "taking down businesses". You don't have a business, but are essentially reckless and a gambler if your income stream depends on one source of traffic (social, print, email, radio, TV, youtube, snail mail, affiliates, in person events...). Having a *real" business means that you have multiple avenues of traffic so that when one dives, you don't.
1:36 No proof from GA or GSC? That's cheeky.
August 2023 was my peak. GSC has me at 227k clicks for the month.
@@thatfitfriend some of my websites were also at peak traffic of all time right before the helpful content update and then I continued to get hit by each subsequent one. I get next to no traffic now. I have not been able to recover at all yet unfortunately
All the user-oriented feedback is great, but when a site gets buried on queries when there's no superior - or even RELEVANT - result above it, you know the HCU has little to do with content and everything to do with Google being completely broken. If he'd just been dropped a few places beneath better results, that would be one thing - but too many of us are seeing very good, very helpful sites sitting below piles of spam and low-quality corporate garbage.
It’s scary how many people rely on Google/RUclips for their livelyhood. I think there are influencers talking people out of a 9-5 with bad intentions.
when do you guys will understand that Google increase website your organic traffic at a point you think you have real business and start investing and spending money in your business, and suddenly the website organic traffic drops overnight. So you have to decide, pay for ads to continue your business or get out of the way and let other players that have money and are willing to pay for ads to take care of your users that at this point are already their users.
Seems like Google here is ranking the big sites with big budgets and lots of resources over small independent sites.

How does Google make qualitative judgements about UX across all the Internet?
Yep, this happens. This is why I don't feel real crazy anymore about losing so much traffic to my website and having it to where I'm not making money like that for real anymore because I know what's going on and I read a lot and look at everything else and see other people going through the same thing. Google has been crushing so many people businesses making a lot of causing a lot of people to go into bankrupt and causing people to lose money and business to just go out of business.
All this needs to be illegal: This is forced, preferred, secondary, curtailed information provided and solicited by a third party being Google, You Tube, etc. Leave it alone, it's like Russian Roulette with your finances, and 12 year old games. Having to buy keys, views, clicks...where's the grown up version of the internet?

The video emphasises that no matter how great your content is, if your website isn't optimised to deliver a high-quality user experience, your chances of appearing in search results are slim. It also suggests that improving user experience often requires a significant budget? looks like small time blogger has no chance isnt that right ?

Now if You want to start a blog and want to make money, then You'll just waste your time & efforts. Now Competition is Almost Saturated. Big brands are dominating everywhere. And starting a new blog with 0 domain authority will be biggest nightmare. Other Money making ways are way better - My suggestion.
Google doesn't need us anymore to write content. So what they plan to do (I presume) is take over all COMMERCIAL content + TRANSACTIONAL content, which covers non-service products on the search engine via AI, in order to make affiliate commissions themselves, as well as make more revenue.
INFORMATIONAL content is the way to go.
As well as TRANSACTIONAL content (BUT!) that covers services.
And COMMERCIAL content will completely be taken over, I imagine.
Not sure what other people think about that, though.
Also, when something new comes into play. For example, if a new type of non-service product hasn't ever been covered yet, would Google take that over, as well? (or perhaps later they would once enough information is on the search engine for AI to make more quality and better-informed content).
Google as monopoly should support independent businesses for fair competition for value, otherwise all businesses verticals will be dominated by 1-2 monopolies and there will be no need in ads, as there will be no bidders.
Yeah Google blocking AI driven websites while forcing us to see their own AI answers in searches? That's a major no no.
