Gonna be mind blown if the Remake turns out to be an actual sequel to the original, Sephiroth here even feels like he had already gone through the events of Advent Children
It seems like less of a sequel and more of a rewrite. Sephiroth and Co. and going through and rewriting canon. It's just like Sephiroth said to Cloud at the Edge of Creation: "That which lies ahead, does not yet exist." I love it.
@@KingLycoris I don't, because it already exists. Cloud's even had visions of it. No idea what they're thinking going with such a contrived plot device... if the characters KILL destiny but still experience all of the same story beats from the original, they haven't defied destiny in any way. If they proceed to do things wildly different from the original... then it's not a remake at all, is it?
@@DisemboweII the Whispers are trying to stop the timeline from being altered by Sephiroth but his presence seems to alter the timeline due to his knowledge of the events that are to transpire. However Sephiroth is also testing fate and cannot change things himself he needs cloud and companies help to defeat the whispers, however the three whispers that you fight represent the future of Sephiroth, as in Kadja, Loz and Yazoo. And they do not want to cease to exist.

@@strayznake1131 It's crap. I actually stopped playing and am here just to watch the boss fight because I can't be arsed to sit through trying to stagger some elemental ghosts and ARBITERS OF FATE throwing buildings around that have no place in FF7... _especially_ the Midgar section, wtf
I actually like this. It’s an interesting development and with little to no context for what’s going on, the characters are likely to proceed as normal anyway, only with the possibility of changing fate. It also keeps players on their toes, since they can’t go expecting everything to go the way they remember/heard about.
Bro fuck yeah, I'd love that. Kinda hoping that they give us the choice to either play as Zack or Cloud. Playing as Cloud could give you a story closer to the original and playing as Zack would give you a whole new take on the story.
I will admit the final bosses were done well and animated well. Only part that drove me nuts was sephiroth dropping the team to 1 with a small window to avoid that attack.
Aerith: "I miss the steel sky." yeah i'd miss all the smog and pollution too after all that wack ass shit with the ghosts and a early seppy boi boss fight.
It's just the beginning, but Sephiroth seems already capable to destroy the whole planet. By the end of the last chapter he will be fighting against Jesus Christ himself for the dominion of the universe.
To tell the truth if he really wanted to destroy the planet and defeated Cloud ... even Genesis could have tried to defeat him ... and knowing that Genesis somehow has the power of Omega, he might stand a chance... IMO Omega is stronger than Sepiroth.
@@BigBoss-gb4cx Is all that Dirge/AC stuff still canon? Seems like they should just remake everything, including Crisis Core. I actually thought Genesis was pretty cool, and the cutscene on the canon still lokks cool today, so I don't want it scrapped 100% either.

I really don't get how people really thought that the plot would be exactly like the original. Did you really think that SE would spend - years and effort just do the exact same game that was already out 23 years ago. We the fans demanded the remake and put this huge burden on SE. It is unreasonable for us to demand that NO changes to the story is to be made. The simple solution for your dilemma if you don't like the ending of the remake is just to stick to the original. The rest of us want more of the remake and we don't mind if a bit of the story changes along the way.
yeah, i guessed that there are people too obsessed with the original game or perfectionist people that want everything to be the same. i like the game, have good time playing it, that’s all, dont have enough time in life to care about other shjt, next game. 😀
I really hate that argument that there's the original if someone wants the original plot. There are people who want to expierience same plot in modern graphics. I didn't see anyone saying it's unreasonable with Spyro Reignited trilogy, Crash N Sane trilogy, Pokemon leaf green/fire red/soul silver/heart gold. Not mentioning that there are already Final Fantasy games that went that route (Final Fantasy III and Final Fantsy IV for DS). People want to expierience the same story but in modern graphics, I don't understand why this is such a problem for some people.

If they want to stick to the OG Plot then that is fine, if they want to change it a bit then that is also fine. I hate it when people complain like children if they don't get to play the exact same game they played 23 years ago with better Graphics.

this remake is the actual sequel to the original, the last scene in the OG ff7 is the scene when we saw aerith in the opening. it's the exact same scene. the original ff7 is actually a bad ending. we all saw what happened to midgar 500 years later. there are no more humans on the planet. nanaki brought his 2 children with him and meet vincent on the ruins of midgar. they reunite every year and only the 2 of them are left since nanaki has a long life span and vincent is an immortal. now we see the remaking of the past ff7 to change the fate of the planet and the people. edit: when i was talking about the last scene, i was talking about aerith doing the praying thing like she did in the intro, only this time she did it differently and she did it like how she prayed during the intro of the remake.
The game is called Final Fantasy 7 remake. If they wanted to alter this the way they did they should've made a DLC, not lie to the fans about what the game was gonna be and dick around with the story.

Yea I like the graphic overhaul but I don't like the horrendous mouth motion that I see in these new games and I actually thought the one winged angel boss would have been way better what the actual fuck is squire enix doing is this just the early part of the game then the next games will have the one winged angel in it. ( I'm not a believer in any god or religious either lol)
This scene at the beginning was so good. The lighting, the ambience, the familiar OST tuning up, and the clear indication that we just entered sequel territory. The ensuing boss fights were beautifully done. That last line from Aerith just made the game for me. Love this whole production.

In Japanese version she says "I hate it...the sky" or something like that. She hates the sky because she feels it has taken away all her loved ones, of course, including Zack too, but not just him. Aerith is over Zack.
How to write a better ending than Nojima and Nomura: Highway chase sequence with Motorball. After you beat it, it goes haywire, and the flaming wreck is still chasing you. Group reaches the end of the highway (like the original), and Sephiroth is there. He cuts the thing in half, sending it over the sides and 'saving' the party. Instant dramatic confrontation that parallels the fires in Nibelheim. There you could introduce his backstory that you've been teasing at - and failing to deliver - for the entire game. No Whispers. No 'defying fate'. No alternate timeline bullshit. Just an extra boss encounter that could have happened in the original story, and that fans would love. Square blew it. Again.
Boom. Simple but effective, good cliffhanger, good use of narrative echoes. But NoNo just NEED to shove their KH smegma in our faces. Man, now I wish that Squeenix never attempts a FFVI or Chrono Trigger remake.
The KH thing at the end is inexcusable. It’s pathetic. Just shows that Squarenix can’t be trusted anymore and haven’t made a good FF game since FFX. Final fantasy died with this remake

So basically in this new timeline, all bets are off now. It could be very possible that we can save Aerith now but I wonder if Square Enix will do a twist and make other characters in the Remake die instead (Tifa, Yuffie, Red XIII, Cid, maybe even Cloud himself etc), I guess we'll have to see in the next games.
That'd be ridiculous if they save aerith and let other characters die, changing the legendary plot ...idk how it ends up in execution but just the thought of it feels so wrong
@@chaikagaz the Arbiter of Fate are there to prevent anything from the remake to change from the original With them defeated at the end of the game the "fate" that is supposed to be in the original will now cease to happen which is what Sephiroth wants

It is a remake. I think people are confusing remake and remaster far too often. It's not a remaster, like most people wanted, but the game has definitely been remade, as the name implies
@@OrphanHart Actually, it's a Reboot. REMASTER: Same game with same graphics but more fleshed out models, colors and sound effects (Ex. Prince Of Persia Trilogy HD [Even if they did make it worse actually lol]). REMAKE: Same game but completely new graphics (Crash Bandicoot N'Sane Trilogy). REBOOT: Either completely different plot or same plot but with major differences and/or additions (This game).
I have played/beaten the original Final Fantasy 7 on PS1. i did not purchase the remake, but decided to watch the ending. My first thought "HOW IS AERIS STILL ALIVE?!"

Maybe the “remake” in the title is supposed to be more symbolic. We know that this game obviously isnt JUST a remake or reboot and could be a potential sequel to the og. Or at least we can conclude that since events in the og are acknowledged. This may even be sephiroth from adevnt children or heck maybe the og game somehow. So maybe the name doesnt only stand for the game being a direct remake but perhaps to allude to a bigger plot? Like the characters remaking their destinies? Also why wasnt it called ff7 remake part 1 if its episodic.. i think theres a little more to this than meets the eye
I'm really excited about the whole thing after seeing that ending. As much as I love FF7's story and I'm a purist of the original story, I'm excited about the idea that things might go differently this time. Yes maybe it will be similar, or the same story, but there's also a risk that it will be different, it give us the chance to experience a new game while going through nostalgia and reviving old memories. Best of both world.

Yup. This isn't the end; it's the real beginning now. The original version spans 4 CDs long, so this, too, will be real long indeed. But in a good way.
so, somehow, someway sephiroth found out how he can change the timeline. the ghosts i guess were there to keep the original timeline in check. now that they are gone, sephiroth now has a chance of actually becoming a god. however, i think that because of sephiroth not knowing the full implications of affecting the timeline (zack surviving in the past, biggs surviving somehow in the present and an unknown future) this will eventually be his downfall. Who knows, maybe Aerith doesnt die at the hands of sephiroth this time and she ends up saving the world a different way.
Sephiroth is a god in the original he literally merged with the lifestream and almost had complete control of the planet's power he only lost due to Aerith's holy, his inexperience with his overwhelming power, and a ton of other plot devices. Even with his defeat in the original timeline, he was only forced to go dormant because of his merger he is immortal and is simply biding his time for his return.

I've finished the game last night and I feel a mix of feelings. I loved and hated the game, specially for it's ending. I'm still trying to process everything. Although I'm upset because I wanted to see the original story being repeated in FF7R, at the same time I'm curious and somehow excited to see how things will unfold. I believe both the original and the unknown stories can be parallelly explored in the next installments, in a way that the original story is not disconsidered, but new elements can be added, like two co-existing timelines. I believe that is how SE will carry on the next two games. My bet is that in the next game the timeline of the team that just beaten the Harbinger will carry on, so will the timeline of the surviving Zack. The route we will follow throughout the game may be the same Midgar - Kalm - Junon - Costa - GS - Nibelheim and so it goes, but the way the narrative is developed will be different. There won't be that mistery around Sephirot anymore, but Cloud's past will still be developed during the game, other characters such as Yuffie, Cait, Cid and Vince will join, and so it goes on. But the way key aspects of the storyline happens may change. I do not know if Zack will play any part on the main timeline, or his will be a alternate timeline. But they can still make a great story even after this unexpected turn of events, and that is why I'm at least curious to see what will follow.
Ok, Let´s not panic. Let´s hope that the intention of this scene is to settle that Zack was supposed to be the main character in both the original and the remake continuity. His story could be altered a little and establish that he was a reincarnation of the first hero who defeated Jenova ages ago or something. But Zack´s destiny was changed and he died saving his friend Cloud, Then Cloud and the party members without Zack were supposed to fail to archive the fall of the meteor by fate. By changing fates in the remake´s ending they meant that the impossible is now possible and that is what will trigger the events of what we saw in the original game and they will stop Sephiroth. Aeris realizing this, let herself die to accomplish the ultimate destruction of Meteor. And that´s the plot twist, no a true plot twist at all. Please, if this makes sense let me know. I want to like this game so much, they were adding mostly good EXPANDED content that didn't interfere with the original overall plot, but a time travel sequel set after Advent Children or maybe in the "500 years later"... C´MON. Let me know if this makes any sense, I really want to speak about this with someone. What I want to say is that I welcome an idea such as "Zack was killed by a new character that we later encounter" but Zack and Aeris MUST DIE, it´s essential to the history. Do I explain myself?
And on the original where aerith and cloud meet, instead of fighting reno they run which is the whisper wants them to do. but on the Re-make the whisper forced them to flee because that is what not supposed to happen.
@@jiraiya0698 Good points here mate. What I mean is that on the present narrative of FF7R, there's no way Zack is alive. Because Cloud is there and has his Buster Sword is that Zack is dead, there's no questioning on that. However when the Arbiters of Fate were defeated by Cloud & his group, their actions ceased to exist on that timeline, and simultaneously on another timeline(the one with the Stamp that's not a Beagle), making it possible for Zack to survive the battle against Shinra, that he was not meant to. That will create a new timeline in which Zack is present, thus altering the whole narrative from this point on. Also, the present narrative from FF7R will take a different path from that of the Original Game, as there will be no Arbiters of Fate to direct the story. Another thing I forgot to mention, is that it seems to me that the storyline of FF7R is actually a sequel to OG. This is because this Sephirot(No clue if that's the real one, or another Jenova clone controlled by him) that appears on FF7R, knows the sequence of events that happened on FF7 OG, thus, he is there to change that. How would he know that much? On the original game he only finds out about Meteor and everything else on the Temple of Ancients. Another thing that makes me think that this is a continuation, is that the ending of OG finishes with Aerith praying. I know that is how FF7 OG starts, but that is also how FF7R starts. That makes me think that FF7R can be a sequel(somehow like an inception) of FF7. My take is that we will experience two simultaneous timelines throught the next game, the one from Cloud's party and the one from alternative timeline Zack. It would be something a bit similar to how FF8 handled Squall/Laguna storylines maybe. I believe that's a good way for them to keep Zack dead on the main timeline, but at the same time explore what the story would be like had Zack survived. As for Aerith, I belive she will still die on FF7R main timeline, but that may be different on Zack's timeline. What do you guys think about it? I know that my theory is a bit crazy but hey, it's only a guess lol
@@rafabcarvalho the whisper did not want cloud and aeris to die yet and perhaps Reno would have captured them or killed them in that instant the whispers wanted they them to avoid him. However I belive that sephiroth is trying to control the whispers to a certain extent but failing to do so. Remember that sephiroth and whisper left behind that peice of Jenova for them to fight in the shinra building which also happened in the original. But we see sephiroth kill president Shinra instead of walking in after the fact so the whisper are playing damage control it seems.

I'm probs in the minority here cuz everyone seems to want a shot for shot remake of ff7 but I'm kinda digging this I can probably recite the ff7 script from memory at this point I've played it so much so I'm curious to see an alternate telling of the story and rather than them just doing shit different and having people scream that didn't happen reeeeee they've put in this changing destiny thing to say why stuff going forward is gonna be very different. I guess a lot of people are gonna be disappointed but tbh I'm looking forward to seeing a new ff7 cuz it's a two decade old game that had a lot of limitations at the time, I think the best mindset you could have going into this game is acting like you've never played the original and just enjoy this for what it is.
@@JazzyBassy that was my problem. I actually loved the ending and thought it was rather well done but I also feel really betrayed because it means the story will no drastically be altered. If they labeled it as an alternate take on ff7 or a reboot. or sequel I would be all on. board but the fact its a remake and sticks so close to the OG game and then takes a big fuck you in the last act hurts
To be honest I'm intrigued by this ending as well, but I don't think I trust the developers to try and make the story different and better. I'm afraid they'll screw it up trying to "satisfy" the fans

I love what they're doing with the remake - the original is untouched and still valid and we still get to explore the world in a new way, not knowing what will come next!
This sucks. I mean it's really cool, but it sucks. Remake was supposed to be FF7 done like a modern FF game. With all these changes it feels like yet another FF7 spinoff....
Yeah this game is kind of garbage. Sephiroth seems to pop up every 5 minutes. In the original you only saw hints of him, the blood trail in shinra HQ, his sword left in the president, the Zolom killed by him, then you finally see him on the Junon boat and its only for a half a second. This is just silly.
So, you don't want a remake, you just want ff7 again. Same story, same beats, no surprises or twists or modernizing. Just prettier? Then what's the point? FF 7 I've played and beaten so much that if what you want is what they gave us it'd be such a waste. Sephiroth was never this cool, enigmatic, mystery character. He was over powered boring God tier melodrama and that's all. This makes him the terrifying harbinger of the planet's death that sephiroth aspired to be in the original and I'm happy to see the change
@@christopherbronson3275 He was enigmatic, I don't think you know what that word means. He's the opposite of enigmatic now that he shows up the whole game to constantly tell you what he's after and what he wants. Also how can he be so terrifying? You've already beaten him up so early in the story and now they're like "yeah let's go chase after him to beat him up some more!" What a terror.
@@christopherbronson3275 But it IS all of those things, just with Sephiroth ham-fisted into almost every part of the game. I even liked advent children, but this is just silly. They tried to cram too much into midgar because they didn't want people to feel disappointed. The pacing of the original was great, the temple of the ancients was the part that made him the "terrifying harbinger of the planet's death". Sephiroth didn't have a "cool, personality" for most of his appearances in the original because it's not really sephiroth, it's Jenova pretending to be him. The only time we see his real personality is during the nibelheim flashbacks. (which we literally see parts of in the first 30 minutes of this game for some reason).
I didn't really like that Whisper bossfight. Those designs looked more like FF15 to me, very over designed and no visual clarity at all imo. The Sephiroth fight was super amazing though. Music and combat were just perfect.
I loved the whisper fight. Mainly because how badass it was fighting them and witnessing those memories of the future (like red running with his kids and cloud Vs sephiroth in AC).
@@bungifish2227 Splicing in scenes from Crisis Core, Advent Children, the meteor, and the actual end of the original game that spoil the game's major plot elements is just _so badass._ Especially when Sephiroth wasn't even the main villain of Midgar. But hey if you enjoy Nomura shoving his fanfiction into your asshole I suppose you have nothing to complain about. That is a highly embarrassing stance to take however.

Non-specific dialogue, time travel, "defy destiny" no-sense, empty fan-service, alternate timelines. It seems that they failed to contain Nomura's insanity under control, really disappointing ending.
One good way to do a remake, and not have people complain about changing the original, is to say the original timeline still exists. But this is an alternate timeline so no harm done to original.
@@LollinoDamb64 you mean you don't know who he was? When I first saw final fantasy when I was 10 years old even though I was born '98. Cloud was the mascot of all Final Fantasy. Especially his own game, VII. Look up Sephiroth vs Vergil in Death Battle if you haven't seen them battle. Sephiroth will give you a good memory to remember.
@Daikon Black well as I have looked it up, you are partially correct as remake means a completely new game that is built up based on the original (in this case the OG FF7) but this can vary in definitions. So yeah:)

Are you aware that there exist other “remakes” of games and that while they add new elements that weren’t there in the original, they still kept the general story the same from beginning to end. Why should this game be any different? Why would they WANT to make it any different? I have no idea.
So tifa spends most of the time battling monsters with her fists however hasn’t got the arm strength to lift cloud from falling, to the point that she needs another’s support...

I just realized some brilliant writing. When Aerith says “when they’re gone...he won’t cry...or shout...or anything...” almost exactly mirrors Cloud’s dialogue with Sephiroth after he kills Aerith. The fact that Aerith now delivers this line is pretty damn poetic, and now I’m really wondering who will die in part 2. It might not even be Aerith!

I never played this game. But a couple of hours ago youtube reccommended me a FF7R video, (Which I LOVED). And now here I am, crying because of the death of a character I didn´t know existed till half an hour ago. This game and its music its AWESOME

This musical cue after aerith's theme always gets me. This tune was the very first we heard after the prelude in the original, and seeing it used here in the context of "remaking" the story gave me chills.
Why not just make Aeris into a pink chocobo. And give Cloud a baseball cap and make him a triple-armed robot. And turn Bugenhagen into a cool emo teenager with dark hair in front of his eyes. And make the Gold Saucer into a Holiday Inn located next to that stupid moogle slide in the Sector 6 slums. Why 'remake' FF7 at all if you're going to change core, critical elements of gameplay & story.
Guida Diehl Look at Mortal Kombat they altered the timeline and changed characters way more than here in the FFVII remake. To add more on this remember the remakes of the Pokemon games? Still overall plot but *different* Kay? Thus game the remake of FFVII is an alternative timeline since this Sephiroth is probably from the original timeline since after his defeat in Advent Children he probably used the Lifestream to travel back in time (Hence why those wisps tried to *force* the game to retread the original 1997 FFVII) and alter everything as now the remake is a whole different thing but will probably include some FFVII lore from Crisis Core...

I absolutely hate seeing Cloud running around jumping 50 feet in between all the flying debris and slicing through buildings and stuff. In the last hour of the game he turns into a fucking super saiyan.
Thank you! That has been bothering the shit out of me too, though none of my friends seem to mind. I was taken right out of it in the first reactor, when he jumps 30 feet off the falling bridge. My friends argument is, 'well he wields an impossible sword so jumping around like a saiyan is entirely on the table'. It ruins it for me though. I had the same problem with AC. Its not the same gritty FF7 that ignited my imagination as a kid.
He has to fight against his biggest fear, his biggest rival, that changes a lot. Maybe that‘s why. You can‘t and wont fight against Sephiroth like you would fight against a third class soldier. Situations like that pushes you to your limits and beyond. Also the physics change, it isn‘t normal either that there are walls flying around instead of just falling.
How can anyone dislike this ending? That was the sickest fucking boss fight... And it's a REMAKE. We knew they were going to make changes. I do wish they would have made Sephiroth more mysterious throughout the game, like they did in the original. But it didnt shake out that way. All I know is that I'm not emotionally prepared to see Aerith die... and if she doesn't I'll be pretty ecstatic. Square nailed this in my opinion.
Anyone else think the in-game cutscenes actually look better than the pre-rendered cutscenes at 56:20? They look too clean, overly animated, and less realistic. Something is just really off about their faces.

Also the original has flaws too on the plot, it felt incomplete to point to have to make Advent Children movie. Nomura is not as great as Kojima when it comes to plot writing.

Well, I am very mixed on fighting Sephiroth already... but at the same time... This game needed a proper end boss. I kinda feel the whisper boss should've been the final boss. But the whisps of fate haven't been built up properly at all, so it didn't work. And so you had to fight Sephiroth. But in FF7 remake part 1, Sephiroth hasn't been properly built up either. It's really a shame. Now the game didn't really have a narrative climax. But at least spectacle wise the sephiroth game was great
Hot take: They made you fight Sephiroth now because he's no longer the real enemy of the story anymore. Sephiroth is fighting fate and so are you. This is literally some basic bitch setup for the second and third game where you find out that the real enemy is something big and dumb and Sephiroth will totally team up with you to fight the big bad at the end. I don't know why people hate this ending, I think this is BRILLIANT, creative and a lot of potential events to expect at sequel. Aerith may not die for now, but with the fate arbiters is gone (it means the original plot will be change), nothing is certain and predictable, everyone can die. Maybe both Tifa and Aerith will sacrifice themselves, or may be Cloud will sacrifice, or Barret,... I'm waiting for the reunion of Aerith and Zack in the sequel (Zack in another timeline, i guess) and the progressing in relationship of Tifa and Cloud, may be they will really in love with each other and become lovers and that makes the sacrifices of one of them will become more tragidy. There are so many outcomes, and many of them can give you the better ending or the more epic ending than the original one. I think the only problem of the remake games is those fanboy out there keep complaining how the remake ruin their childhood game as a baby. You guys have to open your minds and your hearts to enjoy and having fun with the game. if this changing sucks like you said then don't play it anymore, it's easy, like I did with Assassin Creed and look for another games or franchise to explore. And this time I think I fall in love with Final Fantasy, quite late but better than never.

However Sephiroth is also testing fate and cannot change things himself he needs cloud and companies help to defeat the whispers, however the three whispers that you fight represent the future of Sephiroth, as in Kadja, Loz and Yazoo. And they do not want to cease to exist.

I actually like this. It’s an interesting development and with little to no context for what’s going on, the characters are likely to proceed as normal anyway, only with the possibility of changing fate.
It also keeps players on their toes, since they can’t go expecting everything to go the way they remember/heard about.

It's just the beginning, but Sephiroth seems already capable to destroy the whole planet. By the end of the last chapter he will be fighting against Jesus Christ himself for the dominion of the universe.
To tell the truth if he really wanted to destroy the planet and defeated Cloud ... even Genesis could have tried to defeat him ... and knowing that Genesis somehow has the power of Omega, he might stand a chance... IMO Omega is stronger than Sepiroth.

I really hate that argument that there's the original if someone wants the original plot. There are people who want to expierience same plot in modern graphics. I didn't see anyone saying it's unreasonable with Spyro Reignited trilogy, Crash N Sane trilogy, Pokemon leaf green/fire red/soul silver/heart gold. Not mentioning that there are already Final Fantasy games that went that route (Final Fantasy III and Final Fantsy IV for DS). People want to expierience the same story but in modern graphics, I don't understand why this is such a problem for some people.

this remake is the actual sequel to the original, the last scene in the OG ff7 is the scene when we saw aerith in the opening. it's the exact same scene. the original ff7 is actually a bad ending. we all saw what happened to midgar 500 years later. there are no more humans on the planet. nanaki brought his 2 children with him and meet vincent on the ruins of midgar. they reunite every year and only the 2 of them are left since nanaki has a long life span and vincent is an immortal. now we see the remaking of the past ff7 to change the fate of the planet and the people.
edit: when i was talking about the last scene, i was talking about aerith doing the praying thing like she did in the intro, only this time she did it differently and she did it like how she prayed during the intro of the remake.

This scene at the beginning was so good. The lighting, the ambience, the familiar OST tuning up, and the clear indication that we just entered sequel territory. The ensuing boss fights were beautifully done. That last line from Aerith just made the game for me. Love this whole production.

Highway chase sequence with Motorball. After you beat it, it goes haywire, and the flaming wreck is still chasing you. Group reaches the end of the highway (like the original), and Sephiroth is there. He cuts the thing in half, sending it over the sides and 'saving' the party. Instant dramatic confrontation that parallels the fires in Nibelheim. There you could introduce his backstory that you've been teasing at - and failing to deliver - for the entire game.
No Whispers. No 'defying fate'. No alternate timeline bullshit. Just an extra boss encounter that could have happened in the original story, and that fans would love.
Square blew it. Again.
Boom. Simple but effective, good cliffhanger, good use of narrative echoes.
But NoNo just NEED to shove their KH smegma in our faces. Man, now I wish that Squeenix never attempts a FFVI or Chrono Trigger remake.
The KH thing at the end is inexcusable. It’s pathetic. Just shows that Squarenix can’t be trusted anymore and haven’t made a good FF game since FFX. Final fantasy died with this remake

Maybe the “remake” in the title is supposed to be more symbolic. We know that this game obviously isnt JUST a remake or reboot and could be a potential sequel to the og. Or at least we can conclude that since events in the og are acknowledged. This may even be sephiroth from adevnt children or heck maybe the og game somehow. So maybe the name doesnt only stand for the game being a direct remake but perhaps to allude to a bigger plot? Like the characters remaking their destinies? Also why wasnt it called ff7 remake part 1 if its episodic.. i think theres a little more to this than meets the eye
I'm really excited about the whole thing after seeing that ending. As much as I love FF7's story and I'm a purist of the original story, I'm excited about the idea that things might go differently this time. Yes maybe it will be similar, or the same story, but there's also a risk that it will be different, it give us the chance to experience a new game while going through nostalgia and reviving old memories. Best of both world.

so, somehow, someway sephiroth found out how he can change the timeline. the ghosts i guess were there to keep the original timeline in check. now that they are gone, sephiroth now has a chance of actually becoming a god. however, i think that because of sephiroth not knowing the full implications of affecting the timeline (zack surviving in the past, biggs surviving somehow in the present and an unknown future) this will eventually be his downfall. Who knows, maybe Aerith doesnt die at the hands of sephiroth this time and she ends up saving the world a different way.
Sephiroth is a god in the original he literally merged with the lifestream and almost had complete control of the planet's power he only lost due to Aerith's holy, his inexperience with his overwhelming power, and a ton of other plot devices. Even with his defeat in the original timeline, he was only forced to go dormant because of his merger he is immortal and is simply biding his time for his return.
I wonder if this timeline is connected to Kingdom Hearts; are these the Cloud, Sepiroth, Aerith and Tiffa we see in KH 1,2, and 3?

The FF characters we see in KH aren't the same characters as the original games.
I've finished the game last night and I feel a mix of feelings. I loved and hated the game, specially for it's ending. I'm still trying to process everything. Although I'm upset because I wanted to see the original story being repeated in FF7R, at the same time I'm curious and somehow excited to see how things will unfold. I believe both the original and the unknown stories can be parallelly explored in the next installments, in a way that the original story is not disconsidered, but new elements can be added, like two co-existing timelines. I believe that is how SE will carry on the next two games. My bet is that in the next game the timeline of the team that just beaten the Harbinger will carry on, so will the timeline of the surviving Zack. The route we will follow throughout the game may be the same Midgar - Kalm - Junon - Costa - GS - Nibelheim and so it goes, but the way the narrative is developed will be different. There won't be that mistery around Sephirot anymore, but Cloud's past will still be developed during the game, other characters such as Yuffie, Cait, Cid and Vince will join, and so it goes on. But the way key aspects of the storyline happens may change. I do not know if Zack will play any part on the main timeline, or his will be a alternate timeline. But they can still make a great story even after this unexpected turn of events, and that is why I'm at least curious to see what will follow.
Ok, Let´s not panic. Let´s hope that the intention of this scene is to settle that Zack was supposed to be the main character in both the original and the remake continuity. His story could be altered a little and establish that he was a reincarnation of the first hero who defeated Jenova ages ago or something. But Zack´s destiny was changed and he died saving his friend Cloud, Then Cloud and the party members without Zack were supposed to fail to archive the fall of the meteor by fate. By changing fates in the remake´s ending they meant that the impossible is now possible and that is what will trigger the events of what we saw in the original game and they will stop Sephiroth. Aeris realizing this, let herself die to accomplish the ultimate destruction of Meteor. And that´s the plot twist, no a true plot twist at all. Please, if this makes sense let me know. I want to like this game so much, they were adding mostly good EXPANDED content that didn't interfere with the original overall plot, but a time travel sequel set after Advent Children or maybe in the "500 years later"... C´MON. Let me know if this makes any sense, I really want to speak about this with someone.
What I want to say is that I welcome an idea such as "Zack was killed by a new character that we later encounter" but Zack and Aeris MUST DIE, it´s essential to the history. Do I explain myself?

@@jiraiya0698 Good points here mate. What I mean is that on the present narrative of FF7R, there's no way Zack is alive. Because Cloud is there and has his Buster Sword is that Zack is dead, there's no questioning on that. However when the Arbiters of Fate were defeated by Cloud & his group, their actions ceased to exist on that timeline, and simultaneously on another timeline(the one with the Stamp that's not a Beagle), making it possible for Zack to survive the battle against Shinra, that he was not meant to. That will create a new timeline in which Zack is present, thus altering the whole narrative from this point on. Also, the present narrative from FF7R will take a different path from that of the Original Game, as there will be no Arbiters of Fate to direct the story.
Another thing I forgot to mention, is that it seems to me that the storyline of FF7R is actually a sequel to OG. This is because this Sephirot(No clue if that's the real one, or another Jenova clone controlled by him) that appears on FF7R, knows the sequence of events that happened on FF7 OG, thus, he is there to change that. How would he know that much? On the original game he only finds out about Meteor and everything else on the Temple of Ancients. Another thing that makes me think that this is a continuation, is that the ending of OG finishes with Aerith praying. I know that is how FF7 OG starts, but that is also how FF7R starts. That makes me think that FF7R can be a sequel(somehow like an inception) of FF7. My take is that we will experience two simultaneous timelines throught the next game, the one from Cloud's party and the one from alternative timeline Zack. It would be something a bit similar to how FF8 handled Squall/Laguna storylines maybe.
I believe that's a good way for them to keep Zack dead on the main timeline, but at the same time explore what the story would be like had Zack survived. As for Aerith, I belive she will still die on FF7R main timeline, but that may be different on Zack's timeline. What do you guys think about it? I know that my theory is a bit crazy but hey, it's only a guess lol

However I belive that sephiroth is trying to control the whispers to a certain extent but failing to do so. Remember that sephiroth and whisper left behind that peice of Jenova for them to fight in the shinra building which also happened in the original. But we see sephiroth kill president Shinra instead of walking in after the fact so the whisper are playing damage control it seems.

I'm probs in the minority here cuz everyone seems to want a shot for shot remake of ff7 but I'm kinda digging this I can probably recite the ff7 script from memory at this point I've played it so much so I'm curious to see an alternate telling of the story and rather than them just doing shit different and having people scream that didn't happen reeeeee they've put in this changing destiny thing to say why stuff going forward is gonna be very different. I guess a lot of people are gonna be disappointed but tbh I'm looking forward to seeing a new ff7 cuz it's a two decade old game that had a lot of limitations at the time, I think the best mindset you could have going into this game is acting like you've never played the original and just enjoy this for what it is.

This sucks. I mean it's really cool, but it sucks. Remake was supposed to be FF7 done like a modern FF game. With all these changes it feels like yet another FF7 spinoff....
Yeah this game is kind of garbage. Sephiroth seems to pop up every 5 minutes. In the original you only saw hints of him, the blood trail in shinra HQ, his sword left in the president, the Zolom killed by him, then you finally see him on the Junon boat and its only for a half a second. This is just silly.
I have to agree, the clues about Sephiroth in the original is what was so excited. Its still not a bad game but original it aint.
So, you don't want a remake, you just want ff7 again. Same story, same beats, no surprises or twists or modernizing. Just prettier? Then what's the point? FF 7 I've played and beaten so much that if what you want is what they gave us it'd be such a waste. Sephiroth was never this cool, enigmatic, mystery character. He was over powered boring God tier melodrama and that's all. This makes him the terrifying harbinger of the planet's death that sephiroth aspired to be in the original and I'm happy to see the change

They tried to cram too much into midgar because they didn't want people to feel disappointed. The pacing of the original was great, the temple of the ancients was the part that made him the "terrifying harbinger of the planet's death".
Sephiroth didn't have a "cool, personality" for most of his appearances in the original because it's not really sephiroth, it's Jenova pretending to be him. The only time we see his real personality is during the nibelheim flashbacks. (which we literally see parts of in the first 30 minutes of this game for some reason).
I didn't really like that Whisper bossfight. Those designs looked more like FF15 to me, very over designed and no visual clarity at all imo.
The Sephiroth fight was super amazing though. Music and combat were just perfect.

I loved the whisper fight. Mainly because how badass it was fighting them and witnessing those memories of the future (like red running with his kids and cloud Vs sephiroth in AC).

This musical cue after aerith's theme always gets me. This tune was the very first we heard after the prelude in the original, and seeing it used here in the context of "remaking" the story gave me chills.
Favorite part of the whole game is when Barrett is humming the victory song after battles ever so often.

I absolutely hate seeing Cloud running around jumping 50 feet in between all the flying debris and slicing through buildings and stuff. In the last hour of the game he turns into a fucking super saiyan.
Thank you! That has been bothering the shit out of me too, though none of my friends seem to mind. I was taken right out of it in the first reactor, when he jumps 30 feet off the falling bridge.
My friends argument is, 'well he wields an impossible sword so jumping around like a saiyan is entirely on the table'. It ruins it for me though. I had the same problem with AC. Its not the same gritty FF7 that ignited my imagination as a kid.
He has to fight against his biggest fear, his biggest rival, that changes a lot. Maybe that‘s why. You can‘t and wont fight against Sephiroth like you would fight against a third class soldier. Situations like that pushes you to your limits and beyond. Also the physics change, it isn‘t normal either that there are walls flying around instead of just falling.

How can anyone dislike this ending? That was the sickest fucking boss fight... And it's a REMAKE. We knew they were going to make changes. I do wish they would have made Sephiroth more mysterious throughout the game, like they did in the original. But it didnt shake out that way. All I know is that I'm not emotionally prepared to see Aerith die... and if she doesn't I'll be pretty ecstatic. Square nailed this in my opinion.
Anyone else think the in-game cutscenes actually look better than the pre-rendered cutscenes at 56:20? They look too clean, overly animated, and less realistic. Something is just really off about their faces.

Also the original has flaws too on the plot, it felt incomplete to point to have to make Advent Children movie. Nomura is not as great as Kojima when it comes to plot writing.
I’ll be honest. I’m liking the story so far. Not just a remake but a reimagining. There’s a hell of a ways to go yet. Apparently there’s people who worked on the original FF 7 on this too. So I don’t think it’ll be shit.
People are acting like it's way different but events will probably still play out like the original with slight deviations. They will definitely hit all the main story beats.

Do you know what happened to Cloud prior to the game's beginning? Do you know what even happened to the town of Nibelheim or why it even exists in the game when we arrive there? If you are unsure enough about any of those to have to google it, then you don't realize how much they fucked up this remake is and why the game cannot progress in the usual way anymore.

Everything is literally the same aside from Zack's death. History as of now hasn't changed, and so what if it does? As I said before you've had 20+ years to play this game as it was originally released. How is this false advertising in any way, because they aren't releasing a carbon copy of what came before? Seeing as the word remake means what it does, they are allowed to do whatever the hell they please with it. And sure just take exactly what happened, slap a new shiny coat of paint on and you got yourself the new lion king. But we all saw how well that went, didn't we?

Well, I am very mixed on fighting Sephiroth already... but at the same time... This game needed a proper end boss. I kinda feel the whisper boss should've been the final boss. But the whisps of fate haven't been built up properly at all, so it didn't work. And so you had to fight Sephiroth. But in FF7 remake part 1, Sephiroth hasn't been properly built up either. It's really a shame. Now the game didn't really have a narrative climax. But at least spectacle wise the sephiroth game was great
I mean, I think a Sephiroth fight as an end boss could've worked if handled differently. They didn't need to do it the way they did
Hot take: They made you fight Sephiroth now because he's no longer the real enemy of the story anymore. Sephiroth is fighting fate and so are you. This is literally some basic bitch setup for the second and third game where you find out that the real enemy is something big and dumb and Sephiroth will totally team up with you to fight the big bad at the end. Me thinks Nomura has been watching too much Trigger anime.

I don't know why people hate this ending, I think this is BRILLIANT, creative and a lot of potential events to expect at sequel. Aerith may not die for now, but with the fate arbiters is gone (it means the original plot will be change), nothing is certain and predictable, everyone can die. Maybe both Tifa and Aerith will sacrifice themselves, or may be Cloud will sacrifice, or Barret,...
I'm waiting for the reunion of Aerith and Zack in the sequel (Zack in another timeline, i guess) and the progressing in relationship of Tifa and Cloud, may be they will really in love with each other and become lovers and that makes the sacrifices of one of them will become more tragidy. There are so many outcomes, and many of them can give you the better ending or the more epic ending than the original one.
I think the only problem of the remake games is those fanboy out there keep complaining how the remake ruin their childhood game as a baby. You guys have to open your minds and your hearts to enjoy and having fun with the game. if this changing sucks like you said then don't play it anymore, it's easy, like I did with Assassin Creed and look for another games or franchise to explore. And this time I think I fall in love with Final Fantasy, quite late but better than never.
