Hi! Jane here. I dont know if you will even see this note, but putting these precious words to this alternate tune have allowed me to listen to the song again.
In September it will be 30 years since we buried our little son. "0 the deep deep love of Jesus" was sung the Sunday afterwards at our church. From that time on I have not been able to hear that song without weeping. Until now. It was the melody that triggered my sorrow.
With this new melody I am able once again to enjoy these sweet words. Thank you.
Jane, you have my deepest condolences. My husband and I experienced three miscarriages, so I know in small part a similar sorrow. The oldest would be 24, the youngest 22. You’re right. This melody is much sweeter. The Ebenezer is in a sadder, minor key. I’m praying for you, that God would comfort you and encourage you with the blessed hope of seeing your baby again.

This is so beautiful. This is the tune of "morning has broken" song by cat Stevens in the '60s. The usual tune that these words are sung to is actually an old Welsh tune. The words were written by an English merchant who was going to commit suicide and jump into the River Thames. He received hope and inspiration from God and went on to write many other hymns in his lifetime.
I wondered... I heard of the title, looked up a performance and thought hey is this where Cat Stevens/Eleanor Farjeon got it?
I will have to find it sung to the original tune, thank you.

That's what I have noticed to. It has the same tune with "morning has broken". Although I'm a millennial but I really enjoy and love listening to classic music. I have a connection to that music because when I was a kid our neighbor would listen to that song all the time. Thanks for that wonderful information. Glad to know the history of this song.

Ruth! I have suffered clinical depression over a decade and how beautifully God delivered me from all vile phobias and how he has used people to minister to my spirit- it's just amazing. What people couldn't understand, what I couldn't comprehend, he tackled it all wonderfully. He is faithful eventhough we are not.
I suffer too from depression and anxiety, always at its worst at night and morning.Jesus is my refuge from all that troubles me in this world.

Audreys voice sounds like an instrument and needs no accompaniment. But with Fernnando there is an extra fullness that is so beautiful ! I love this arrangement so much

It took me quite a few listens to realize that this is the lyrics to Oh the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus, but set to the melody of Morning has Broken! It just fits so naturally, and has a lighter feel than the original hymn arrangement!

I respectfully disagree, the original melody is so much more powerful and authentic! I absolutely love Audrey Assad and her beautiful voice but I always feel disappointment when an old Christian Hymn is given a different tune. God bless❤️🙏

My favourite musicians together melting their voices... It is my best in this album and 5am alarm which baby (still in the womb) is accustomed to waking up to.
