Those variations of stabs on triplet beat seem deceptively simple.
I need to get on the counting train more.
I can play it alone ok but getting it in the pocket with drums or bass if I'm not playing every beat of triplets
I seem to keep falling back into 1/4 note beat

I don’t know if this means im learning more and finally “starting” to catch on or if im totally lost beyond saving …..yet here iam… no root in your G shape really messed me up,broke out the old ted green book ,open chord apps and def dont see as your shape as wrong but def lacking the G….forgive me if i missed it / or im just a complete moron 🤷🏼‍♂️…but why ? Just for ease of chord ,or to leave it ambiguous for during the progression ? Ugh only on 2nd cup of coffee ,i know i have to be making this more difficult than it is …thats my routine it seems …imma gonna just finish off the video ,and my coffee …then try amd set up some time to go through more of bgu 2.0 that i seem to always forget about …..

What your frustration means is you are hooked on guitar. 😂 You understand a lot more than you realize and Griff is showing you a simplified easier version of the big bar chords which are harder to make compared to smaller versions containing less strings. This simplified chord structure makes the rhythm easier to play and stay on time with the beat. Play your bar G chord and then move your index finger back off of the 6th string. Do the same for the C and D on the 5th string bass note and I promise you will make sense of all of it. Reviewing your BGU 2.0 will help. You are headed in the right direction, stay focused, keep practicing and you will be surprised how much you improve.

When playing 3 note chords there are many possibilities when leaving out either the root or the 5, go out and discover some! Playing the root or the 5 in a chord is not always necessary for a chord to sound good or to work well when accompanying yourself or others.

You may want to re-watch the beginning third of the video where I talk about why I remove the lower and upper notes, but I understand it can seem odd playing a chord with no root. When I was younger and getting used to that I would often visualize the root on the 1st or 6th string, even though I was not playing it. Otherwise it can be difficult to find these moveable shapes that we're used to finding using the root. You can even put your finger on the root if it helps, just don't play it :)
