As my Granny used to say, "money is never wasted on a good book". I very much believe that to be true ❤️📚 what a fantastic haul, great to have you back
Your granny was sooooooo right.
I love your shirt. I love the classic My Little Ponies!!! ❤
I always wanted one. Never happened but now at least I have this. Ha.
Some interesting sounding books, I look forward to hearing how you get in with them. Thank you Simon ❤📚📚
Ha. It might be a while with some. Though a few will be appearing in my next wrap up!
Thanks Simon Enjoyed your haul ❤️📚
Glad you enjoyed!
Wow what a fantastic haul.I look forward to hearing what you think of them. Have just added to my evergrowing tbr! 📚❤️👍😊
Ha. Might be a while for some of them but very pleased with myself that I have read some of them for once. That doesn’t happen in the same month often.
❤️ June reads: Bandit Queens and The Sentence. Bought soooo many more though!!!
Bandit Queens… what a book!
A fab haul of books! Quite a few of them may be added to wishlist! ❤📚
🥳📚🥳📚
❤lovely to have you back Simon📚
It’s lovely to be back.
Simon on a Saturday morning while I’m having my tea & toast ❤Look for The Quiet Girl on streaming/online. It’s a film adaptation of Foster by Claire Keegan.☘️
I didn’t love Foster. I haven’t got on as well as the rest of BookTube with Keegan.
Hi Simon! ❤📙 🦄Arrangements in Blue sounds fab, on ze wish list, thank you. Excited for upcoming content, esp Mrs Pip Doin' Crime 😄
Hope you enjoy it when it arrives!
It’s nice to have a choice and be able to pick from your own library. Amazing how many books there are in a stately home library, not that I have set that as a goal, I would’t be able to get in my front door! 😬
Hahahaha. Ooh I would love to have a stately home one day. Imagine!!! 📚📚📚📚📚
Buy as many books as you like Simon 🎉🎉 plus nothing wrong with books from publishers 🎉
I think it’s all about a balance. Ish. Maybe. Sometimes. Hahaha.
💜📚 enjoyed this Simon!
Thank you!
What an incredible haul!
Bellies and No One Dies Yet sounds like my kind of read!
Also omg Pageboy was so excellent, I hope you enjoy it!! 😊
Miss Major Speaks!! 😍
Very excited for Bellies. And for Pageboy… and for all of them.
♥ 📚 I'm in a book funk at the minute, so just taking it one step at a time, trying to find a book I want to read.
Best way. Maybe even don’t read for a bit do something else until the reading mood strikes you.
I really liked On The Red Hill and Gavin's book is on my TBR.
Let’s hope we both enjoy it!
Fairly confident of that,@@SavidgeReads
I’m intrigued by your copy of The Gilda Stories because it looks a lot thicker than the 1991 edition (maybe it’s just page thickness though?). My tbr definitely doesn’t need to get any longer, but thank you for adding some books to it anyways ❤📚
Maybe they’ve gone for a bigger font?
We went to West Kirby Bookshop last week. I bought The Rabbit Hutch, Stone Blind and The Dance Tree. A brilliant bookshop.
It’s suuuuuch a fab bookshop. So pleased other people are loving it too.
Welcome back! ❤📚
Thank you ❤️📚
I have Sea Change on my July TBR - somehow it feels like it might be a great summer read!
Yes it has that escapist summer feel, you’re totally right.
Gilda sounds like a great read for Halloween for sure. I only could watch your video to this point, but am coming back later to see the rest
Hahaha. No pressure… I wouldn’t know 😉🤣 but am thrilled you’re coming back to watch it all.
❤📖 what an amazing haul of books!! I was the same the first year i went to hay overwhelmed but not as overwhelmed as my other half when i got back and he saw how many i’d brought 😂 the bookshops are amazing and the thing i like is you come across books that you may not have event known about before I’ve found some real gems over the years that I’ve been back 😊I’ve brought a few books this month, the suspicions of mr whicher and the face maker so some non fiction which i feel i need to read more of and then the fascinations by Essie fox and Atalanta by Jennifer saint oh and lapvona and the shadow cabinet too, god knows when I’ll read them!! Anyway I’ve waffled on so thank you as always for sharing your books
A pleasure to share my lovely loot. Lol. I think I’ll have to go back to Hay and do it over a couple of days. A new LGBTQ bookshop is opening there soon, brilliantly called a Gay on Wye books, so I’ll head back for that. Mr Whicher is brilliant. I need to read some Jennifer Saint.
Yes a few days to soak it all up at hay is the way to go. I never got time to visit the new bookshop this year so there will be two new ones for me next year 😂 looking forward to reading mr whicher and it will be my first Jennifer saint book so intrigued to see what it will be like.
I’ve added 13 books to my wishlist 🎉😭🥰
Hahahaha. 13 is lucky for many 😉
So many of these sound amazing! Chain Gang All Stars blew my mind - probably the best dystopian I’ve ever read - Gladiator meets Hunger Games meets Handmaids Tale 🤩
La Kiri-boto and No One Dies Yet and A History of Burning in particular!!
I saw Vanessa Chan talk about her book at WP live the other day and it sounded awesome!!
I had no idea Chain Gang All Stars was dystopian. Oooh that kinda intrigued me all the more. I missed Vanessa Chan’s talk. Can’t think what I was doing instead, fab to hear it sounds as good as Tracy’s said.
I love all your visual and sound effects that give us a heads up to your forthcoming ramblings. 😂😂😂 Tic Tac...😂 I come for the books, but I stay for the fun. What can I say? P.S. You can never buy too many books. Enjoy!
💜📚
Awwww that’s a lovely thing to say Angela. Thank you.
Love the book joy a haul brings! I hope there are many 5 🌟 reads for you in there!
📖🥰📚📚📚
Oooh me too. Must do a five star predictions Reading Vlog at some point.
Oo I love that cover for Sea Change, not the same as the one I have seen on Amazon
Ahhh, that’s because that’s the proof edition, in my video. I prefer it to the finished one I’ve seen bookshops are getting.
Lovely to have you back ❤️📚
Awww thank you!
Good to you see you back ❤ 📚 📖 📕
Thank you Debbie.
Like many book lovers, I buy more books than I read; but I always read the most recently bought ones, so I've got some really old stuff that's just being ignored. I should do something about that! ❤📚
Oh blimey I definitely get more books than I can read. I worked out that in 3 months I got a years worth of books, oops. But books don’t have a sell by date thankfully 😅
Yay, you’re back!
I am indeed. With two videos this week, imagine.
Told by an Idiot is my favorite Rose Macaulay novel of the ones I have read. I just love it and hope you do too. I share your inability to stop buying Persephone Books. I think my stack of them (unread) is the same size as the stack of them read and in the shelf. I’m intrigued by Zadie Smith’s new book too. ❤️📚
Oooh if it’s a favourite of yours I’ve a feeling I’ll love it. Maybe I need to host a Persephone project of some kind. Hmm. I’ll have a think.
Love that you are simultaneously criticised for buying too many books *and* for not buying enough books 😂
Lots of great stuff in there - very interested in The Glutton!
Ha. You can’t win. But to be fair I choose to put myself out on the internet and we all know it comes with the territory a little sadly.
The cover for that Zadie Smith is ❤🔥
It’s great isn’t it? I couldn’t say no.
Always enjoy your reviews! ♥📚
Awww thank you. Though these are more guesses as to what the books are about as I haven’t read most, well pretty much all, of them yet. Ha.
❤I received my paperback copy of The Night Ship with your interview with Jess Kidd 💖. I'm so 📖 happy
Ooooh hooray! I hope you enjoy it, I loved that book.
Nice to see you! I had to laugh about the snit at the bookstore that your mum posted . It was 😂😂😂. ❤📚🇨🇦 I bought some books at a 2nd hand book fair- all older as I am boycotting my local corporate bookstore and we have no indie shops on my town. Got 11 for $22! I will save some for the fall as they have those vibes. See you soon.
Oooh you can’t go wrong with some second hand book shop bargains. Glad you enjoyed the video on mums channel!
I read White Teeth years ago, but your edition is much more gorgeous. I enjoyed it one very much. That cover for Shani Mootoo’s book is stunning. It made me think of the Noel Barber books I read decades ago. Have you heard of those Tanemara, The Other Side of Paradise, The Daughters of the Prince and Farewell to France? Loved them at the time, I wonder how dated they are now. If I get a chance, perhaps I should re-read them. I’m reading The Accidental medium by Tracy Whitwell. It’s very lightweight but a fun read. 📚📚💖
I’ve not heard of Noel Barber so I will have to look them up!
❤📚 Love your wittering 😘
Hahaha. Thank you Julie!
Thanks for lots of good ideas Simon, great to have you back! I just finished a wonderful book today ‘The walled garden’ by Sarah Hardy ❤📚
Oooh I’ve not heard of that I’ll have to look it up.
@@SavidgeReads I loved ‘Madwoman’ by Louisa Treger by the way, so interesting. I’m just starting ‘The darlings of the asylum’ by Noel O’Reily which seems a bit similar i.e. locking women up in an asylum when there was nothing wrong with them.
Very excited to see you’d posted 🤩
So many interesting books! 💛📚
And just want to add that I fully back you - your money/life, your choice. Ppl are probably just envious, bc books are an absolute joy, let’s be honest 😉
I dunno why they’d be envious though. Libraries libraries libraries. You can borrow loads of books from them, more folk should be using them. Got let the haters fall of like rain but was worth addressing.
@@SavidgeReads very true indeed
Surely, it's not possible to buy too many books! 🤣 🧡📙📖📙
Hahaha. Well I don’t think so but some people think otherwise. Lol
Love your T-shirt ❤📚
🐴🦄🐴🦄🐴
Hello my name is Christina and I'm new to your chancel and the books I'm reading are Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke and Looking for alaska by John Green and The Ladies Roon by Carolyn Brown and Land of a Hundred
Welcome to the channel Christine. I hope you keep enjoying it.
Video ideas?
1. Books I have more than one copy of ( with give away)
2. Giving authors a second/third chance
3. My subscribers favourite books of 2023 so far that I haven’t read
4. Other booktubers favourite books so far that I haven’t read
5. Books I’d like to see on the Booker?
I’m probably going to do the other booktubers one, definitely. I think giveaways I’ll keep for instagram, just easier to manage. Subscribers I could do and find out from responses to my books of the year so far video, if they let me know them in the comments when it comes. I don’t know if I’ll do anything Booker related this year though.
Hi, Simon. When you reviewed Arrangements in Blue, you said “I have never listened to Toni Morrrison’s Blue album” Did you mean Kind of Blue Album by Miles Davis? Whilst reading a book, that would be my idea of bliss to listen8ng to that album.
Nope lol. I meant Toni Mitchell. I thought I said Mitchell, oops. Books and authors on the brain always. Arrangements in Blue riffs quite literally on Toni’s Blue album. Which I may actually listen to today.
Aaaand I made Blackwell's a bit richer again! 📚
I like Blackwells… so I’m pleased. I actually just ordered a McNally edition from them, Winter Love, very excited for it.
I want all of those penguin ink editions but they are from 2010 and impossible to get 🤣😭
Oooh get to Hay, they had them all in Addymans (just a small flight Jess lol) I was just very restrained.
Is Daughter of Time the other Josephine Tey you read? If not, that's the one you need to read, probably is outdated in two different time lines, but it has it all, humor, history and a strong female character. I love the Umbrella Academy. Thank you.❤
It was Daughter in Time. I thought that was quite clever. Not sure I’ll do anymore Tey though for a while/ever. Will try other golden crime authors instead, there’s so many.
📚 ❤
🥳📚
Hi Simon The Franchise Affair always seem to be on TV as a teenager. Read a Josephine Tey ( and her background's interesting) lately about her usual detective proving Richard the third didnt do it. V v dated.
I read that one, that was the first of hers I read. Quite liked it. No need to read anymore of her I don’t think.
Have you read Yellowface? It’s worth the hype ❤
I haven’t. I have a proof but I’ve been hearing such mixed things. I’ll get to it at some point though. I worry it’s been overhyped for me a bit.
Hi Simon. Something is wrong with pateron. I am not able to pay for my membership. I have checked my card, its working everywhere else. So something must be wrong with the page or the app. I am going to try to pay for it again, and i really dont want to miss bookclub on wednesday. I really dont know what to do. I hope i find a solutiun. Best regards from Cathrine📚
Sorry to hear this Cathrine. Best people to get in touch with are Patreon as they deal with the technical and financial side. I just make the content. Ha. Hope it gets sorted and if it doesn’t don’t stress, there will be other book clubs ahead.
On an unrelated note: I need to get a My Little Pony shirt. Was an avid collector back in the day 🐴 😄
Ha. There’s a few My Little Pony tshirts about here there and everywhere. Hope you find one you love. I never had a My Little Pony. Always wanted one.

Morning what was book about the American prison system
Gang Chain All Stars. But think I might have got the premise a bit muddled in my head.
Wowsers what a video I'm blaming you Simon for all my book buying recently.
Hahaha. I will take that blame… and use it to buy more books for myself. Hahaha.
❤📚 Pageboy was everything I expected and more
I am looking forward to getting to it.
Hello awesome video thank you ☺️ by the way do you have Goodreads account?
I don’t, I have a StoryGraph account (much prefer StoryGraph for many reasons) but it’s private as some of my reading has to be secret 🤫
ok ok fr now can we pls do a buddy read of Hit Parade of Tears? it's just such a sexy book for sexy boiz like us
We can do. You’ve always so many buddy reads on the go. Let me know when you can fit me in your schedule. The story of the author is sooooooo sad though.
@@SavidgeReads incredibly tragic! very honored to have her work in our hands though ❤ok beaut! yes, lemme know when ya wanna have a go at it!
"Lakiriboto", for anybody who is interested or didn't know, means a woman with no vaginal opening, so one who cannot engage in penetrative sexual activity. Naturally, massively taboo in such an androcentric society. It comes from Yoruba, which is one of our tribal languages. Being gay is actually illegal in Nigeria, so any visibility we can give to queer Nigerians and their work is greatly appreciated. I, as a Nigerian lesbian, am very grateful. Thanks for sharing, Simon!
Ooooh I didn’t know that about the meaning, thanks for sharing that with us. Sending you and all the queer community in Nigeria my love and support xx
I would love if u list the books. You don’t always hold it up clearly when video paused. 😢
Oops sorry I always think I hold them up for quite a while. I do normally do a list but when I’m time poor filming and editing take priority. I’ll do better though 😉
