About 30 years ago my mentor/trainer told me, "Better safe than sorry. Do this right and you'll make it home to momma on Friday night." He was right, I'm still here... Very much enjoying the vids Dale, and I'm glad to see you doing it safe/right. Bless you and thanks for taking the time to share.
Your enthusiasm for the week is just not the same after spending the weekend in the truck, looking forward to your week of adventures.be safe my friend.
Hey Dale, I've seen most of your videos, great work, because of you I decided to go flatbed. I just got out of school and am going to orientation at TMC next week. Just wanted to say Thank you.
I used to do those too. I usually threw a strap thru every other one then over top and out the other side to help keep them standing up. Then they wouldn't fall over. Cool vid stay safe
I'm about to go OTR with a small company with 13 speed Mack and flat bed trailer for wood or some steel products or cable (for cable TV). Your videos sure do help.
Told the wife, "I think I'll drive a truck when I retire from the military".She said "But you will never be home!"I said "And?"I have not seen her in a couple of days, however the swelling in my eyes should go away in a couple of days!
throwing your straps thru those spools of rod heavy gage wire loads like that one needs to paying attention to not trapping the tag end underneath the winch end of the tightening one on top of the other being loose. Something to really think about what it is to securing it correctly verses not. Good thing here is you let others know it as well. thumbs up buddy, keep it honest and always stop to check the securement w/bar in hand. :) C-ya. thumbs up on your video for sure.
I start with tmc on Monday and I'm trying to get all the info I can before hand. I've been driving for 9 years hauling furniture in a dry van ( Wheaton van lines) and trust me I'm no stranger to work but this is totally different
Nice TMC pete at the 0:18 mark. And I have to correct you on the title. This is just grueling. Painfully slow would be this same task but doing it in a driving rain or even worse...in the WINTER...with a nice wind chill. Now that's pain. But the bottom line is, no matter how long it took, your load was properly secured.
I have done it in the winter, and in the rain, and after securing - had to tarp. Its not really a correction but your personal preference. It was painfully slow because normally it goes much quicker, but I had to redo some straps because i initially placed them wrong.
hey! But, why so far out from the drive axle, doesnt it jump when you are drivin, i haul coils before and some were so heavy that we were only able to haul just one and that one was put in the middle of the flatbed and once the truck was moving it jumped alot on the freeway... im quessing that would be the case with this load youre doing..... great video and stay safe out there... i did truck driving for over 12 years and loved it... im in mexico did do what i wasnt a good citizen thats what happen, but cant wait to drive here in my country.....
WE load from the center out. No jumping on my that I have noticed. I have seen some drivers that like to haul things over their drives. i am not one of those drivers that has that preference.
Do you use a different set of straps for loads like the coils in which the strap tends to bunch in the pockets and get edges get alittle frayed? And thanks for pointing out the over and under positioning to get the maximum tension on the strap👍
Good morning or Good evening depending on what state you are in now. The video was awesome about load how to secure your load. Dale how do you know how to position your load on your flatbed.
Twenty years ago I drove vans for a short time and I always wondered why flatbed guys did their thing. It seems like so much more work and as you said , rain, cold, no matter, if it calls for a tarp, the load gets tarped. Is the pay really that much better or is it something else? I just found your channel, so you may have answered this question. Be safe out there and make it home.
Yep it's called figure eight. I always did it with coiled wire and slit coils for safety and a more stable load. Paletized slit coil's I allways'd crossed my chains across the top. Name and I hauled it. If I had the money I'd start a flatbed training school. Keep up with the vid's I enjoy them.
Is this thing worth it? I just got my cdl and I'm looking for money I dont mind the work but do they pay for that time it takes to secure the load. you could be half way to destination with a regular trailer
+Josue Octavius lol, and dangerous to haul this in a dry van. Flat tends to pay more, but more work is involved. $25 to tarp. Usually less then 30 minutes. That's a $50 an hour rate for me. It's all a matter of perspective. I have an updated pay video you should look for then you can determine for yourself.
Great videos Dale! As they put the last ones in do you have to readjust where the cool rack is or is the trailer marked? Or do you just know where to put it from experience? I’m headed to TMC on Monday.
I have my CDL Class A W/Tanker I let my Haz Mat expire a long time ago but i'm registered. I need a job any idea's? I am looking at LMC. My neighbor used to work for them. One way or another i'm getting back in a truck I just need some advise on getting seat time without going threw a school.
+jimbeau I am unfamiliar with hiring drivers that haven't driven in a while. I suppose if your CDL is good then you should be good with a current DOT physical. Best bet is to give some places a call that meet your needs. I am happy with Maverick so I always recommend them, I am not sure where you live, but there are several companies that hire new studwnts, but someone like you that has experience should have no problem with even the company's that require experience. I can't recommend any other company I haven't driven for. I would hate to recommend a company and find out letter they are not what them claim to be. I recommend talking to those that have the type of trucking you want to do and meet any other needs you may want. Drivers are in demand, so you are in the Drivers seat when it comes to getting a job so to speak.
If I were you, I would hook those straps to the frame instead of the rub rails. DOT is not my top priority. Safety is. I don't see why you don't do that.
+Erik Caldwell I need to make a video on this as it gets asked that much. TMC was to slow to reply even though I applied with them first. Glad I am with Maverick, they have EPU's and that is a world of difference.
Dale Clay That would be reason enough . If TMC doesnt have EPU's, im sure that would get very uncomfortable. If i decided to get into trucking, i would definitely want to be able to sleep in a cool environment. Thanks for the educational trucking videos, you seam to have a great attitude for someone in such a stressful career.
DOT - Department of Transportation would be the unique force for what your referring too. Yes there are fines for not trucking properly. Massive amount of rules and regulations that someone can acquire large fines for violating. Not to mention being put "Out of Service" (No work, no money)
Hey im From germany "sry i can Not speak englisch so good " My Dad drive this roll's evry Day and he take the 1 the yes 2 No the 3 yes the 4 no the 5 yes the 6 Not the 7 yes the 8no and the 9 yes . But it's intristing how you do it

Good job. Slow and steady is better then fast and sloppy.
+Thomas Daniels 👍
Your enthusiasm for the week is just not the same after spending the weekend in the truck, looking forward to your week of adventures.be safe my friend.
+mick higgy It's always a downer not seeing the family.
Dale Clay thanks for the insight of how flatbed are loaded.
+Gene Harden Your welcome
Just did my first slinky coil. thanks for the informative video.

Hey Dale, I've seen most of your videos, great work, because of you I decided to go flatbed. I just got out of school and am going to orientation at TMC next week. Just wanted to say Thank you.
+william king I hope you find it rewarding, good luck in your new adventure.
william king hey dale.. you still with TMC
william king I meant to say William are you still with TMC
I used to do those too. I usually threw a strap thru every other one then over top and out the other side to help keep them standing up. Then they wouldn't fall over. Cool vid stay safe
+Darren Catenacci Have a nice weekend
That looks so much safer than so of the loads I pulled in a dry van
man I'm learning a lot from you. thanks
+Port city Dee No problem. Glad to hear.
Sounds good. I have a little piece of a mountainside in NH.
+Jan wa1jan Nice
I'm about to go OTR with a small company with 13 speed Mack and flat bed trailer for wood or some steel products or cable (for cable TV). Your videos sure do help.
+Austin Powers Great to hear, have fun and be safe
that rub rail is in good shape. Ours were always bent to hell from forklifts.
Nice clip Dale, stay hydrated Brother, looks warm !!.. safe travels !!
+whatheworld water water water
Now this is MY KIND OF VIDEO. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
also note he racked the first and last coil good job bro
+Mark Nairn Thanks
I've move thousands of tons of wire coil. but we strap it a bit diffrent in the uk. cool video mate
Thanks, some companies I pick up from have specific ways they require us to secure their product so it can get even more cumbersome at time.
Learning a lot from your videos...very appreciative keep them coming ! Thank you thank you
No problem
Day 1 for me and this video may be the blessing
Day one what, out on your own?
Love the videos, done watch them all, going to Maverick transportation this year. Thank You for videos and updates.
+Kelton Jones Good luck and remember my name.
Told the wife, "I think I'll drive a truck when I retire from the military".She said "But you will never be home!"I said "And?"I have not seen her in a couple of days, however the swelling in my eyes should go away in a couple of days!
+TheMILVET lol
I guess it is kinda off topic but does anyone know a good site to watch newly released tv shows online?
@Kase Elisha flixportal =)
@Marcus Hezekiah thank you, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :) Appreciate it!
@Kase Elisha Happy to help :)
Slinky's are are tricky load. Nice Job!
+Tommy Burke Thanks, so much ratcheting to do.
In Australia these coils are contained in heavy steel cradles which are bolted to the flatbed and the coils sit securely in them and not strapped!

Dale Clay the farther from the cab the better
Do you use a different set of straps for loads like the coils in which the strap tends to bunch in the pockets and get edges get alittle frayed? And thanks for pointing out the over and under positioning to get the maximum tension on the strap👍
+Big R Phillips No, if our straps get damaged we turn them in for new ones.
Good morning or Good evening depending on what state you are in now. The video was awesome about load how to secure your load. Dale how do you know how to position your load on your flatbed.
+Gene Harden Most of the direction comes for the experienced shippers. They often know how best to position their products
Twenty years ago I drove vans for a short time and I always wondered why flatbed guys did their thing. +Mike Roy More money less stagnate work
Nice video and music
Are you still trucking ? Still with same company?
So did you do over the top and cross threw the eye of those coil's I always did so they wouldn't lean to one side or the other which can do.
Not on these type i dont, others I do. I think we call that the figure eight.

Sterling Steel in Illinois. That place sucks getting into. They load quickly however.
+iwannacamp It's a long road but they are fast.
How many sucurements do they teach you at maverick
+Wayne Patterson How many? A bunch.
Great videos Dale!
As they put the last ones in do you have to readjust where the cool rack is or is the trailer marked? Or do you just know where to put it from experience? I’m headed to TMC on Monday.
I see now there was an x on the trailer.
They tell you where to line it up and they adjust it if needed.
Dale Clay oh, ok 👍🏻
I have my CDL Class A W/Tanker I let my Haz Mat expire a long time ago but i'm registered. I need a job any idea's? I am looking at LMC. My neighbor used to work for them. One way or another i'm getting back in a truck I just need some advise on getting seat time without going threw a school.

I'm in Michigan and 100% legal for out of state. I got my phy's a yr ago just need a ride.
So, when you get tired of throwing straps, what's next? Dry van or reefer?
+Jan wa1jan 162 acre farm.
That's crazy, it'll never scale. :-)
Thanks for the video
DOT is okay with you hooking those on the rub rails just curious?
Yes
cool thank you
If I were you, I would hook those straps to the frame instead of the rub rails. DOT is not my top priority. Safety is. I don't see why you don't do that.
not true there is no wll on rub rails you can get a ticket for that my company policy we need to hook under to the trailer frame
Ryan k no actually Reitnouer trailers do have a WLL for the rub rail, check the data plate next to the drivers side landing leg next time you see one.
how often do you get showers!
+Charles McFann Every day if I want. They are free.
Dale Clay are you still with maverick
that is in sterling Illinois where I live
how much maverick make you pay for the equipment they give you to secure the loads. I might come to maverick?
+Josue Octavius Zero dollars.
+Dale Clay. If i put you as a referral would you bless me.lol
+Josue Octavius I will Bless you and your entire family 😇
is chains not allowed on this load??
Nope
stay safe brother
When I load these. Bols says no chains. I've been told by the customer if chains are used. I bought that whole loaf.
Why Maverick over TMC, just curious sir?
+Erik Caldwell I need to make a video on this as it gets asked that much. TMC was to slow to reply even though I applied with them first. Glad I am with Maverick, they have EPU's and that is a world of difference.

+Erik Caldwell Thanks Eric, be safe out there
Like your videos, very informing!
+Charles McFann Thanks
I'm not sure which I dislike to haul more. Coiled rod or PVC pipe, may not like it but a loads a load.
+neofishaddict I prefer coiled rod
If nothing else Maverick runs some nice equipment, at least you're not driving junk...lol..
What the fine in the U.S for an insecure load? And do you guys have special police just for truckies?
DOT - Department of Transportation would be the unique force for what your referring too. Yes there are fines for not trucking properly. Massive amount of rules and regulations that someone can acquire large fines for violating. Not to mention being put "Out of Service" (No work, no money)
Getting addicted to your vids here, I've been meaning to ask you; do you have dump valves on that spread axle? Happy trails bro!!
+842qwery No dump valves. I am like Crack so be careful.
Sir can make vido about how to secure coils plz sir thank you
They are already made, you may have to search for them. Like, "Maverick steel coil" or something like that.
thanks for all the info put u down as my referral.
+Jason Miller Thank you
I cannot believe a busy roadway is so close to your working area.I would 'crack the shits' after 10 minutes. NOISE POLLUTION.
.'
whats the lay over pay?
+jim p Detention pay starts at the 2 hour mark and you get 15 an hour for sitting.
monday the 23rd ?
+Keith Davis Videos are two weeks behind because I didn't make it home for the one weekend.
oh yeah! I forgot ! I saw that one ! THX !
Who is the music by?
I get mine all off the RUclips creator studio.
😊
The King Stallion will lift it all, and no traffic or Red lights.
+Bill Billby ;)
Slinkies not coiled rod and the first and last bundle should be choke strapped
+Jaytheflatbedder slinkies is slang for coiled rod. What's a choke strap? Never heard of it. I would be interested in seeing it action.
Ok. Most people watch these videos to learn. Talk through the process and get rid of the music. Thanks

+Horster Tv Hi Germany, one of the most beautiful countries I have visited so far.
You should have to show both of sides how to tite
+Ravider Singh 10-4 it matches the side that is shown.
Somehow out of all the things I’ve hauled over the last 18years, that isn’t one of them lol. Looks like a pain in the ass
It can be at first, once I developed my strapping tecnique, it went quick.
That hairs out of control! Starting to look like a hippy. Lol
+jjchopper02 It's all fixed now. ;)
DITCH THE BACKGROUND NOISE. Then you would have a good video.
