My dad was on the North Carolina from her commission in April 1941. We built a Revell model back in the 70's when I was a kid. Yesterday would have been his 100th birthday.
Two things one trumpeter is my most favorite molded company because of their detail two you know you had a good modeling experience when there is glue on your hands
Thanks very much! I will definitely continue making ships, i have also got some tank models i am very interested in building. But the channel will stay mostly focused on ships! i like them most as well
Nice work. I just bought the 1/500 scale from Atlantis in the gift shop after visiting the NC. I'm hoping to make a $15.00 model into something a little more special I can proudly display. Same fit issues as with most models but with a little work, who knows! I think I'm going to paint the measure 32 paint scheme and teak decks she sits with today.
Being a person who prefers tanks, that would be my request, but the some ships would also be ideal, but in the end you ard the person building these kits. Keep safe and well in these crazy times.
Thanks for the feedback! I'll try balancing it out. there are several great modellers who mostly do tanks, so i think ships are a niche, but tanks are also fun and less effort to make! All the best to you as well, stay healthy!
To make the Eduard radar dishes look right: make a cut from edge to center, overlap the cut ends until the dish looks right, mark where one edge that is overlapped to where it meets the other edge, leave just a slight overlap, glue the slight overlaps in place, let dry and slightly round from center to outer edge evenly to get proper dish shape. It works and works well.
Ships for me, I'd watch the odd tank but as you say there are so many armour channels it's nice to see something a bit different. Nice job with the North Carolina particularly on the paint work. I do feel however that just the addition of generic PE railings and ladders would make a huge difference to the final model, but appreciate that's both extra time and cost you might not want to expend. Looking forward to whatever you have in store for us next.
True, railings would have really improved the model (or, improve all ship models). I even have some laying around somewhere from a 2nd hand model i once bought, and the blücher also had some included which i didnt put on. Maybe i should just take the extra hour of work, you are right! next ship, no excuses, will have railings!
And, thanks for the feedback. Right now, an armoured vehicle is uploading, but then, i'm turning my attention to a quite new ship model that i havent seen any videos on youtube yet! (if im fast)
Hi Peter....long time and life is busy. Hope you and your family are very well. I have just finished two Japanese scratch built subs. Very rewarding! I do so want to convey my sympathies to you folk on the loss of HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH. I trust the transition of power will be smooth and effecient. Have a great weekend! Your American friend Jerry. Molly my 4 yr old puppy say hi to your kitty!
Nice build! I'm working on this one as well. I found some other 1/350 North Carolina kits in resin from Yankee Modelworks, and Iron Shipwrights. They are discontinued unfortunately, but can still be found on ebay occasionally.
Nice build! Hopefully you’ll be able to tour the North Carolina, if you haven’t already done so. They’ve done an amazing job with her restoration and upkeep! Oh, I also sail the NC in WoWs, though I prefer cruisers.
I stopped playing WoWS some years ago, but the NC was one of the last ships i got after playing only British and French lines, and she was a great addition after the slow colorado! :)
She looks amazing! To be honest I would recommend the occasional tank, but I think there should be some more 1/700 ships as well. I think more people from different scales should be coming and watching this channel :)
Thanks! and also, thanks for the feedback! 1/700 ships are a great idea! I remember having a USS Texas, USS Lexington, USS George Washington, and a PLA Aircraft Carrier in 1/700 (the chinese kutznezov class), anything interesting for you?
@@funinscale2892 I’m not sure what you mean. If you have these kits but you haven’t made them, I would say the USS Texas. If you’re asking me for future kits, I recommend Trumpeter’s early battleship line, with the USS Colorado, USS Maryland, etc.
Nicely done yet again....you are churning out the big ones at a fast rate but assume that these have taken longer than it seems???. There's a lot of armour channels and not so many ship ones so appreciate the fact that you don't mind sharing your ship building with us viewers. However, this is your channel and I'd be happy to watch whatever you choose.
Thanks very much! Right now, i have so much time on my hands, i sometimes build models from morning to the evening, so i'm spending quite an amount of time on each of the models, but i'd assume there are modellers out there that just take each kit to the next level, where i make easier compromises. Ships are my main interest, but sometimes, the simplicity of building a tank is also a good interruption
@@funinscale2892 I agree, I love building 1/32 scale planes but I throw in a tank every now and then because they are easy to do....and yes, a ship too :-)

Hi Jerry! Thanks for the info, and the message! How are you, everything fine? I started working full-time again in july, and full time means much longer than the usual working week, so i dont have any time for modelling at the moment, sadly, i cant work on any videos. Very good build, but you should try to correct one of Trumpeter's biggest mistakes, the too short first funnel. It should be just higher than the second one.
Hi Peter! Hadn't heard and hope your new jobs going good. Just finished a simple 1932 Ford two door. It was fun I'm gonna do more of it but I'm now interested in JU52S. And Ford tri motors. Wish I could send you a shot of the car. Take care and cheers from Iowa.
Hi Jerry! How are you? I would be interested in the car model, if you like you can send me an email to funinscale@outlook.com! The ford tri motors is a plane, the revell kit, right? I was interested in that one as well, looks like a fun build, an old monogram kit if im not mistaken. Stay safe and healthy!
I've noticed you have really improved you modelling skills over the projects I have watch. There is one thing that I notice you miss a lot and that is cleaning up the bits of left over sprue on the parts like ladders and small barrels etc. To me it really reduces the quality of the build. I did the same thing the other day when I was test fitting some of my 1/200 Scharnhorst superstructure parts. I couldn't workout why they wouldn't fit, only when I realized I hadn't cleaned the sprue stubs off the part and cleaned it up did they fit.
Thank you! I usually dont really strive to perfection with my models but rather finish them a little quicker and being able to try out the next kit - I'm probably a little too impatient for all the very small clean up - and i dont have the tools for it. That being said, i know i have lots of room to improve! Thanks for the hints!
Hi! I would try and paint it nonetheless, so you can get more experience for future models, you can also skip the camouflage part and only paint it grey above the waterline, with a dark blue-grey deck, not necessarily a camouflage pattern.
Yeah, one can really see the difference between the older and newer ones from trumpeter, the quality is superb today, they throw in PE parts, extremely fine plastic parts and more, so it's always a little sad finding out that the one i had was an older one with... solid... radar bulbs...
14:40 Seeing the non photoetch Crane makes me worried. I got my 1/350 Trumpeter Warspite and it’s gonna be the same problem. The crane is just a solid plastic, no photoetch replacement. All the aftermarket is for Academy is well, so it won’t fit Trumpeter. 😓
Yes those solid plastic cranes and radar dishes and stuff, they are really bad - but the PE sets are quite expensive as well, so i usually like to build out of the box because like this i am not bound to one model for endless times and can start new ones faster. I have the 1/350 warspite from trumpeter on my stash too, i think to remember there was a PE crane included, or am i mixing kits up?
If only my wallet would be of the same opinion :D i have a rodney and Hood in 1/200 on my stash, i've wanted to do the rodney since quite a while, if this is something you're interested as well!
I have never tried it but some people built ships especially for cruising around in lakes, you can look it up under RC ship modelling. You need some Electronics knowledge to build it though, as you have to connect all the engines and radio control units yourself. I assume it is hard to get into, but cool if you can pull it off!
