Teimur Radjabov was kind of a chess unicorn as well. He was at his peak 2793 (top4) and qualified to candidates in 2013 (age 26ish). He got totally crushed and his rating went down to 2696 (top44) (age 29ish). However he made a huge comeback and his rating went back up to 2765 (top9) (age 32ish). He even qualified for 2020 (33) and 2022 (35) candidates.

I have no idea why Hikaru thinks it's so unique that he got his rating back to a very high level after a slump, there have been many top players who did that. Ivanchuk for example who dropped or almost dropped below 2700 several times in his career only to rise up again, at one time becoming number 2 in the world after such a slump. Mamedyarov is another good example, he reached his peak rating of 2820 (the sixth-highest of all time) after a long period of hovering around 2720 or 2730. Tons of other examples, I think Topalov also vanished out of the top 20 for quite some time before making a huge comeback in the 2010s. Hikaru says it's not an ego thing but it's clearly an ego thing.

@@varunmurali7912 No, all these players had already been top players before those rating swings. 2:29 Isnt draw the most probable outcome at the highest level of chess? And I don't think Anish's games have ended in draw THAT many times statistically. heck a lot of players would prefer to force opponent into a draw when they are on a losing position, because losing straight up means your rating goes down and in team events it may very well lead your team down. Draw is a much more preferable outcome than an uncertain victory.

21:16 Okay, here is my take on this, Hikaru, on the other side, coming from a chess player, you are a content creator and love it obviously, but you never take us , while you are here of course, like on a holiday or something where you go fishing or something. This may sound ridiculous but if you are loving content creation I mean once do this for us.. we are way more dynamic that you think as viewers and what we want , while you are here: Important.

Please Hikaru i want you to win 2026 candidates. It was painful to see you cry after losing 2024 candidates by just 0.5 points 😭

Apparently, he does not care about chess as much. He is more of a streamer and blitz player. Don’t feel bad for him😂

It's interesting to me that it bothers chess players that chess content creators make more money. Content creators in every field almost make more money but that's because of the initial risk they took working on something that may or may not pay off. As a software engineering phd student it doesn't bother me that there's content creators who make more money.

A lie detector should be yes our no. If you give a long answer, our you say i think, it doesent work anymore. Your thinking can change, in time.👀
