I was raised Catholic but am no longer religious. But I will always love the music in this musical. It was the first live show my mum took me to at the high school she taught at, I was like 4. I very loudly announced during the last scene to my mum that “this was very sad!” And at the end when they came out to bow I was AMAZED that the kid who played Jesus was ok! My mum took me back to meet him and I was in love lmao! I’m sure this 17 year old kid was thrilled to have a 4 year old coo over him 😂. That show started a life long love of music and theatre, something my mum and I shared right until she passed away and now I carry with me. This was an amazing performance of very special childhood memory. Well done!
This is my childhood! just wanted to add... everyone is "religious" - Everyone puts their faith in some sort of worldview. Even atheism is based off of faith. I was raised catholic as well. Love the music, and I love Jesus. He is about relationship, not religion. Grew up listening to these jams!

Hola. Hace 44 años yo actuaba también. He visto vuestra obra y estoy realmente emocionado. Muchas gracias. Alex
I feel so happy right now. Joshua Bassett played my character when I was on Godspell. Boy how I miss that show to the ends of the Earth. No show I ever do can live up to that show. If anyone has the chance to do this show, risk your entire life just to do it. No matter how different it's performed, you make such great friendships and you feel so happy doing it
I actually was in Godspell too and I miss the show alot too, I was the day by day soloist .... Godspell was so much fun and im really Glad that you got to do Godspell
So beautiful and inspiring how this production conveys the teachings of Christianity. Uplifting and funny yet also insightful and truthful. Great job by these young men and women.
@@KurtK1970 I wasn't in this production. I was in Godspell in 1986. I'm sorry if you thought that. But, I can see how you thought that. I agree that they are amazing, though.
@@samp7228 No, I forgot to mention that I was in a local production of Godspell. I played the Mary Magdeline (Turn Back, O Man) character in a Church production in 1986 not CYT's production or the original movie.
What a GREAT production, even watching it now from 3000 miles and 9 years away! The direction, the lighting, the choreography, and the young actors were outstanding!!! Too bad the audio tech didn't get a credit -- excellent work! I picked this version from the RUclips search to watch because it's the first (only?) one I found with the audio track being an audio board feed and not the typical awful camera mic at the back of the room. Thanks so much for knowing how to do proper audio! And with Sstereo ambience mics! 🙂 Props also to the camera op!
I listened to the Godspell recording which a girlfriend in High School played many times when we first met at her parents house. I knew it was from Broadway NYC but never gave that much of a thought. As with the years of High School and time passing the High School romance did not survive my first year of college which was a disaster when someone you love is still in High School and you are dealing with the first experience of college far and away. And yet this Godspell lives in my heart still to this day. Thank you for the great performance setting stage to the great music. I had just LEFT San Diego in 2015 when this performance was produced. Had I known I could have seen it live it would have been wonderful. San Diego has this alternate hippy vibe and I can see the perfect casting for Godspell revived in San Diego for sure.
Josh Bassett sang my absolute favorite Godspell song!!!! I was hoping he would lol Also the Hebrew at the end …. He tried that’s all that matters! He tried!!! ☺️
Wow - saw the original road show version of Godspell at Ford's Theater in Washington, DC in 1972 (I think 72, might have been 71). It was a great performance by an very talented group of professionals. For me, the enthusiasm of these obviously non-professional kids put the enjoyment level of this performance almost on a par with that one.
That’s great! That was the idea the writer had when he penned it. It’s more biblical than Christian though. There’s a lot of Jewish and even a few Hare Krishna references in the original concept.
That’s easy to do when seeing another production of it after you’ve been in the show yourself. People in Godspell really bond as a family. Keeping that in mind, try seeing them as their own families growing to love each other as you did with yours! I’ve done 5 different productions of Godspell and I still love seeing other productions to see what they come up with! The Rights allow directors to be creative as long as it fits aesthetically.
This is a fantastic production with an incredibly talented cast, but I have to say I prefer the original ending to GODSPELL, where "Long Live God" transitions into "Prepare Ye". It was simple, powerful, and goosebump inducing. The new music at the end where "Long Live God" transitions into "Beautiful City" just doesn't work for me.
This is the newer version that was made for the 2011 Broadway Revival. Saw that production in 2012 on the front row! But yes, I like the original ending more as well.
When was this prologue added? In any case, I only wanted to see a few numbers but after one and a half, I just had to see the whole show. Your company is amazing!
In the script the character who sings "All Good Gifts" is named Lamar but the script is very flexible about who can say and sing what (besides Jesus and John/Judas) and allows the characters to have the actors' real names if they so desire (again except for Jesus and John/Judas). In the script "Day By Day" is Robin, "Learn Your Lessons Well" is Gilmer, "Bless The Lord" is Joanne, "Turn Back O Man" is Sonya, "By My Side" is Peggy, "We Beseech Thee" is Jeffery
Lamar. The original concept just used “Clown 1, Clown 2,” etc. When they went to copy-write it they had to give the characters actual names so they just used the first names of the people that played each character. It kind of stuck and was printed that way. When MTI took over the rights they added in Jesus & Judas but kept the same names for the others.
The. lesson was that the harm you do to others shall come back to you…and so it did. Perhaps his reaction and facial expression made the audience laugh.
I really enjoyed this production to begin with. I've seen 14 different live productions and always appreciate the magical prologue which is not always attempted by community theaters. I had to stop watching however when one of the scenes was devoted to Trump bashing. It defeats the purpose of the message of the play.
Relax, This was done back when he was best know as a rich businessman or as the host of The Apprentice. He probably hadn't even announced that he was running for president yet.
I’m watching because my theatre is doing Godspell and I was wasn’t excited to do it but THIS changed my mind, I’m so excited!!!!

When you’re just casually watching Godspell because your university is about to do it and Joshua Bassett is just there!
This may very well be the best performance of this musical that I've ever seen!

I am a part of CYT Dallas, and this is my favorite show that I’ve done, and I love the Joshua Bassett did this amazing group also
You have blessed this old "Jesus Freak" tremendously with this production. Thank you.

RIGHT
I love this. You have a young, energetic cast giving their best effort and look like they're having fun.
You know, I read all the comments on this video and cringed about the references to the song “Turn Back O’ Man”…
….then I got to that part.
😵💫
Very talented young people...Hopefully they've all become successful at their endeavors.
Love the variations on the parables, especially The Prodigal Son and The Good Samaritan. Nice work, kids.
