Excitingly, after prepping my new fruit tree space I’m planting both Bacon And Hass amongst other things this weekend. I’ve prepared for the Avo’s by raising the hight of the soil in a square two sleepers high to give them perfect drainage and keep them out of the clay base. Great to see all yours doing so well apart from Mr Pinkerton 👍
You are just going to love that Bacon when it hits peak fruit production. I got 77 this year from my 8 year old Bacon. Mine looks a little different in that it has 2 spreadout central leaders & is about 3 metres tall. I''m in Melbourne also.
Enjoyed watching your avocado update, nice trees sorry about the pinkerton and lamb hass I thought the lamb might survive when you dug it up and put in a pot I've read that established avocados have a high failure rate when dug up out of the ground, you have nice avocado trees!
@ it’s a mexicola grande. I believe they can withstand down to 18F. No I didn’t plan them facing south against the wall since I’m saving that space for tropical plants like atemoya and guava lol
I have a Pancho and Winter Mexican. The winter Mexican had new flushes since Helene where we took a direct hit and it was halved…the new flushes got freeze burned, but it’s still very healthy and vigorous! I am looking forward to the spring and what it will bring!
Avo's as you understand hates wet feet, with your Dwarf variety Pinkerton that will thrive in a very large pot rather than in the ground because of drainage. I have so many varieties that I wish were in the ground as yours are years old, so jealous. Thank you for the content and thanks for the heads-up with leaves that drop seasonally. I thought the same that they had ta fungal or disease.
My 8 year old potted Hass avocado 🥑 tree has flowered but it hasn't held fruit either. It seriously needs to be planted in the ground next year which will likely begin February next year when they start assembling one of those flat pack houses for the interim until the actual house gets built. I look forward to being able to plant my plants in the ground instead of in pots next year !
George, do you have problems with your loquat trees snapping branches off along the trunk. Mine is year 2 an i lost 3 major branches. The tree itself is doing ok, but branches just randomly snapping off
Depends where you are, but generally white sapote will grow well wherever citrus does. In my area, lemon guava fruits twice, in late summer and late autumn.
Actually quite nice to see just the avocado trees, best to have several trees in your climate to spread those rest years. I'm guessing you can't buy Mexicola Grande in Australia as that would be a fair bit hardier than Bacon 😁
@@RealLifeFruitopia obviously I've never tried one because they don't ship the fruit here because they are thin skinned but apparently you can eat the skin as well because it's so thin. Would certainly be an exciting variety to get your hands on. Obviously extreme cold isn't an issue there but I gather they comfortably deal with -5 to -6c for short periods so might be ideal for say Canberra
Those looks great! I had a question about monstera and sugarcane. How well does sugar cane grow in melbourne? Is it frost sensitive too? Also, do you cover your monstera in winter at all?
@@RealLifeFruitopia Oh that's good to know, I'm in castlemaine do you reckon sugarcane will grow here? We get colder winters and heavier frosts, I assume if I grew monstera outside it would need protection from frost too?
Depends on available space. Bacon is most cold tolerant, but it gets tall. Hass is my pick for a large tree. Lamb Hass for a compact size. Avoid Wurtz and Pinkerton. Fuerte fruits alternate years.
It was good to see all of your avocado trees together in one video, George. It's great to see most of them are looking incredibly healthy!
Glad you enjoyed!!
Thanks for the update. I'm in NE Vic and just planted a dozen different varieties.
Hopefully your trees will be bearing fruit soon!
Your Avocado trees are looking good,im so jealous now, lol.beautiful vedeo.
Get planting!
@@RealLifeFruitopia I am,and I'm very addicted to gardening,hence I'm following you.
Beautiful trees! 🥑
They are!

Sounds like you've done your research, good luck with your planting!
Lol,the tree is growing lots of fruits in heaven😂.

That's great to hear!

Thanks! Most avocado trees are looking healthy.
Very beautiful Avocado trees. Is there any quality or taste difference from store bought Avocados?
It's hit and miss with store bought fruit. It depends on the batch found in stores, some are as good as my own and others are plain foul.
Thanks George. My growing zone is 9A. I planted the Lila and Mexican avocado trees this year. Hopefully they will survive winter here in Destin Fl.
They should be fine.
What Mexican type did you plant? Did you plant south facing?

I saw two avocados doing very well in alkaline soils, one in Casterton, Victoria, and one inKingscote, Kangaroo Island.
Does the Hass cover the fruit well with its foliage? Is the fruit well protected from the harsh summer sun??
Fruit are completely protected inside the trees centre, partial cover on the outer reaches.
Beautiful trees! How’s the new ice cream bean doing now since there’s hot weather? Just wondering.
It's good. Growing one foot a month.
I'm planning on putting in a second tree and maybe a third.
George, do you have problems with your loquat trees snapping branches off along the trunk. Mine is year 2 an i lost 3 major branches. The tree itself is doing ok, but branches just randomly snapping off
Not really. Usually, dead branches will snap off easily.
George, questions.
Does W. Sapote need frost protection when young? What month do you pick the Lemon Guava?
Depends where you are, but generally white sapote will grow well wherever citrus does.
In my area, lemon guava fruits twice, in late summer and late autumn.
@RealLifeFruitopia Thanks. I'm also in Melbourne.

Mexicola Grande is rare to find but available at some speciality nurseries.

Both are cold tolerant. Monstera needs shade in summer, or it'll burn.

Neither one will survive a heavy frost.
Grow them in pots and place undercover in winter.
Whats the best avo variety for Melb garden¿
Depends on available space.

Re: the Pinkerton. The back of your yard seems quite dense and flat. They need elevation and drainage. I think it's the position not the variety.
You may be right. Pinkerton is only slightly elevated.
How do you keep the parrots and possums from eating the fruits on your trees
Netting
@ thank you!
Hi
Do you new the new release avocado named jala avocado?
I know about it, but have no room.
Fuerté means strong in Spanish.
Strong one year, asleep the next.
All my baby avocados dropped due to crazy weather. Only 1 survived! 🙄
The weather has been fine for them here. Most fall, but enough hang for us.
@ my tree trunk is only 2 fingers wide, so it’s still small in a pot too. Thanks
