You nailed it why it doesn't change in the car. Most windshields block UV light and will not transition in the vehicle while driving. I'm considering these and go in and out of tree coverage a lot too. I freaking love Oakley Trail torch lenses, but the issue I have with them is fogging. The Sutro lite don't vent. They only just now came out with a Sutro Lite Sweet (vented), but I'm trying to weigh all options before buying my next set and the Wild Cats are up there as one of my choices.

Hey, thanks for the confirmation re: the UV light. To be honest, I’m not familiar with those other options you are considering but I figured I’ll take this opportunity to try to clear-up my thoughts on these. What I should have said in the video is they provide the minimum amount of light reduction which was not in-line with my expectations but might actually not be a bad thing. I was on a climb road directly facing the sun and there was no harshness or anything, but there was full visibility. I actually love them because I was out riding yesterday from 4pm until 9pm and never once felt they were not filtering enough light or the need to pack them away when things were getting darker.
Also, re: breathability - I’m very out of shape from the winter so I’m huffing-and-puffing my way up the climbs and have not once noticed any fogging. Perhaps they have an anti-fog coating, but I interpret this as good ventilation despite their large size. Similarly, the trails are still muddy in patches and I haven’t experienced any thing in my eyes, although I am running the Rock Shox short fender.

Just bought 2 pair of Wildcat Photochromic on Walmart website for only $53.12 on clearance which is a steal! I usually wear either my Oakley M Frame Alpha photochromic or Oakley Flak 2.0 XL photochromic but figured I’d give these a try. I also have the M Frame Alpha goggle frame for more muddy or downhill riding. These Wildcats will be a nice addition to my photochromic arsenal lol

Seriously!>? I’m going to look for these but could you share a link just the same? I’d love to have a back-up pair.

@@GREYWOLFbike they were just on sale, not clearance and the price changed back to $96

Clear lenses are great if you plan to cycle during the night. Photochromic lenses can go almost clear but not as clear as clear lenses.

Hey, thanks for taking the time to comment. Also, that makes 100% sense; I honestly hadn’t considered night riding. Granted, I think it’s very niché for mountain bikers but these glasses could just as easily be worn by ultra cyclists or gravel riders on a big trip. Thanks again. :)

Hi, thank you for the kind words! I really appreciate that. Re: head size/fitment - I wear a ‘medium’ helmet and they fit good, albeit on the large side of the spectrum. SMITH also makes the Bobcat which I have tried-on and those are specifically designed for smaller heads and were pressed against the side of my temples. So if you wear a M or L helmet I would say you’re good to go. It might be a bit of a snug fit if you wear an XL, but unfortunately SMITH does not make a larger frame than the Wildcat.

Nice. I plan to pick-up a Proframe RS this summer and intend to wear the Wildcats 100% of the time. In fact, I specifically tried-on the Wildcats with the Proframe RS and one thing I noticed which is nice is the tips/ends of the Wildcat arms are bendable, so they contoured nicely around the back of my head in the helmet although I think they might have interfered a little with the adjustable/ratchet system.

Damn dude, what’s up with the cables behind you? Is that where the t-Rex lives?

    • @GREYWOLFbike

Hahaha! I had to re-watch the video to see what you were referring to. Those are either power or telecommunications lines running down the road, but I love the reference.
Edit - for what it’s worth, I think if T-Rex is going to live anywhere in North America, it’s definitely going to be the PNW.
