- The Rebel Roarer: The 1973-1974 Pontiac Trans Am Super Duty 455 and Its EPA Feud!
The Pontiac Firebird was an American car made from 1967 to 2002. The first kind of Pontiac Firebird, made from 1967 to 1969, had a body shape called the "Coke bottle style," which was also used for its relative, the Chevrolet Camaro. The second kind of Pontiac Firebirds was made from 1970 to 1981. This generation had a new body shape that was more curvy, unlike the "Coke bottle" style of the first-generation Firebirds.
In 1973 and 1974, there was a special version of the 455 engine known as the Super Duty 455 (SD-455). This engine was unique because it had a stronger cylinder block with four-bolt main bearings and extra material in some places for added strength. Originally, they planned to use a forged crankshaft for the 1973 model, but the actual production SD455s had nodular iron crankshafts with a few small improvements.

The Car Corner
I had a 72 firebird and wish I still had it. BTW gas cost $0.50 /gallon and that was double what our parents paid.
The smart ones got the Formula with the SD 455 , $800 less and half the cost on your insurance bill ,,, 🧐
It was Amazing that the reg 455 made it to 1976 when all Camaro's had lost there BIG cube engines back in 1972. The super duty was some say better than the 400 Ram Air 4 used in 1969-70 gto & firbirds
Love the firebird, had a 67 with the 326 4 speed , nice car ....seemed to be harder on gas than my 78 corvette with 400 hp.......i think it had a smaller gas tank or i liked driving her more than the corvette......laughed at the car on the showing of the video, two headlights on one side like a 70 chevelle and a firechicken headlight on the other.......i do miss the 67 firebird though , all original except the paint and rims, very stylish and quick, had a few others since then ( 4 years ago ) but will always remember the one that got away, hope the new owners appreciate her.....😂
The 73 car, still one of Detroit's finest all around automobiles, of the time. As for the SD 455, a few improvements, (such as domed pistons, 041 cam, advanced distributor, open scoop and recalibrated carb), makes this car scream.
Can't beat a 4 speed hogleg shifter trans am ....... There very rare but the sound from the engine note with manual transmission is way better
Amazing
In the year one thousand nine hundred and seventy two. ChatGTP strikes again.
AI generated car in thumbnail has 3 headlights
I always report fake AI generated thumbnails. Humans need factual stuff, not a continuous barrage of more and more and more and more and more fake AI shit
I had a 1970 (TA) with four gear damn, I wish I still had that white with blue stripe
Decent enough review of the SD. Dive deeper and the story gets more complicated.
What the F*CK is that thumbnail ?!
Soooooo.....why didn't you show a 1st Gen Firebird? 1:53
But they did show a 3rd gen, which had nothing to do with the video. As they also pictured a Buick Stg I in the beginning. Why? The narration was tolerable, and some of the content, but some of the photos were weak, (modern assembly line workers?) and repetitious. All in all, the video was still OK.
Considering that you created this 3 months ago, you are behind on pricing. A well preserved or restored rare optioned SD has fetched nearly $200,000.00 and should go higher. More common SD specs can certainly be found for 80-100K
How many sd 455 was put in the 1973 Grand Am?
None
AI narration. Get lost
It’s a turbo 400 not 403.
Correct 400 was Pontiac 403 was Oldsmobile engine
That was the computer gen. closed caption, screwing up him sayin "TH400 3 speed".
Didn't see a green car in the entire video. 👎
