Fantastic Tip for everyone driving the Kenworth W990: Play the Pacific P512 PF instead.
People underestimate how good & fast P512 is. Like I actually set records on some timed contest, and no trucks with AWD seem to be able to beat it. Its amazing!

Since the terrain in Snowrunner is ridiculously over emphasized I don't understand why they add any trucks without AWD....
For me, the Kenworth W990 is a great machine. I love Highway vehicles. SABER is making a mistake by not releasing a DLC similar to Mudrunner ''American Wilds''. I'm irritated by comments like: ''These vehicles are not suitable for this game, etc.'' Well, if someone is going to drive through mud in a Highway vehicle, with a low suspension and a long frame, and complain that the vehicle can't cope, then they are simply an idiot.
I think that's the issue though. SnowRunner is for off-roading. The W990 definitely would be fun in the right map (lots of tarmac) or another game but for mud/snow it's very sub-optimal. And so I think it's fair to make people aware of that when it costs money.
@@ATribeCalledCars I do not agree with you. From the beginning, the series involved driving vehicles on asphalt, mud, water and paved roads. The creators wanted to reproduce the behavior and physics of vehicles on various surfaces. In SnowRunner we also got snow and icy roads. Imagine that in the next installment of the title SABER adds the mechanics of slippery mud and asphalt during rainy weather. This would add a lot of excitement and immersion to Highway vehicles.

I always wanted those dead-axle trucks to receive at least some bonus for it. Like they wouldn't crack through ice with the axle down, just like the Apache never does.
That would actually make some sense but I doubt it will happen!

I enjoy it, for a non awd truck it goes very well it's stable and doesn't take a ton of damage and goes a long distance. I find I really like it.
I do too. I think its really good. It goes through mud with the stock wheels and rwd better than some awd trucks. I use it a lot.
I do agree that AWD Really hurts this truck but I don’t think you should really give this truck a thumbs down. I’ve used it a few times already and it’s not a bad truck. Yes it uses the same add-ons as all the other trucks but there are a few things I like about it the horn is actually not bad and the engine sounds are not bad if they could add all wheel drive to this truck and also offer a bigger tire sizes. You would have a really bad ass truck it tie with the Kenmore 963. So don’t throw in the towel yet on this truck I will saythe devs kind of just jumped over a few little things. They executed the truck beautifully but functionally it needs a little work you add all wheel drive to it and a few different tire sizes to it and a few other add-ons. This would be the go to work truck.
It's a badass rig if you know how to drive it.
I play Highway Haulin where as you mentioned later in the video, this truck does amazing with everything but mud.
It's sad, because a lot of people notice and say that Snowrunner is kind of cucking American trucks, I don't really know but I would love to hear what anyone else thinks.
I mean, i used an all american fleet when i was progressing through Imandra. The GMC MH9500 got me through everything except for recovering the armored vehicles and the plane pieces (ANK Civilian to the rescue on the plane parts, and some extra sketch crane work on the armored trucks using the western star). I wouldnt call it cucking. Id call it a skill issue.
RWD trucks arent that bad to use either, and are decent on ice and generally have good range, speed and high torque values. I get that they dont do everything well, but they dont _need_ to. You have other trucks for that. They're perfect for just taking trucks between maps and cleaning up all those free trailers just chilling out in the world waiting to be sold. Most regions have a main paved/dirt path that goes across every map, so why not use it?
Also in contrast to all the eastern european trucks, the american trucks can just kind of do more as a whole. Cargo bed, crane and a trailer and actually being able to turn, and not immediately flipping over upon trying to use the heavy crane without resorting to a very slow superheavy truck that takes forever to get anywhere and cant turn, just to name a few.
American trucks just take a different playstyle. Thats all. You trade the sheer mud-plugging for all around more usefulness.

It's a shame people have to jump to those judgements so soon now. And you're not wrong either to some extent. Russian trucks are designed to handle the worst kind of terrain because Russia is comprised of so many terrible roads. Its just unfortunate to me that there is clearly a bias on the development side too and that hinders many of the North American trucks. Some of which are just as capable as the Russian ones IRL. But in the game they choose to make them less powerful.
Like the International Paystar 5070. I don't even know if that model actually existed. The 5000s featured a straight hood which would allow for a larger engine and more options than that slanted hood which granted them the opportunity to say it can't have an engine swap? Like seriously? There's also the fact that it has a lifted suspension with no added larger tire size above 46". That would be an easy way for them to compensate for the single engine option.
There are tons of NA trucks that could be as powerful, if not more so than some of the Russian ones. If they ever add an Autocar DK64 or a DC-9966, i hope they do them proper justice. Because those are some proper offroad powerhouses that would be solid competitors IRL. Same with the Kenworth 849 / 850 and XM523 / XM523E2.
@@Pink-LightsaberYou have no clue lmao. There are tons of North American trucks that have massive tires for agricultural use, way larger than Russian trucks. These are just slightly modified standard trucks. The devs refuse to acknowledge this. Also the old russian trucks had way less power and were way inefficient, the total inverse of how its programmed in game (same with the ANK, its IRL counter part has little power) This next part applies to all the trucks, fuel capacity can be easily doubled or tripled in real life with extra full size fuel tanks. The option for extra tanks has been needed since day 1, especially when Imandra dropped.

I'd love to know how much stems from contractual stuff as opposed to Saber decisions. Presumably there's more to it!

RWD only trucks are either love it or hate it, and a good half of the playerbase loves them.
Also i mean like, the "Target Audience" also thinks that 5 bucks is highway robbery for a DLC and that they should never have to pay for additional content ever.

Iam very curious to, I heard that their are no mods allowed for the kenworth 963, at least on their official mod browser. Though I haven't checked.
Ben what build are you doing for these issues, I use only the 2nd engine and yes its slow but no more so then some of the other trucks. for me at least in the current season its working pretty well for me (with its large off roads unqie to the truck)
Anyone know why the front wheels seem really stuck out beyond the body, and how I can fix it?
The truck has plenty of power (i'd argue almost too much since it can tip itself over from standstill in auto when turning) and can plant that power down on the rear axles with good sized tires in my opinion, but yes a conversion kit (which do exist for these kenworths) to swap it to AWD would be nice. But would Saber make the effort to implement this since it would also need a complete visual rework to the entire front axle so it has the whole drivetrain? Time will tell, but I do hope so.
The truck has plenty of potential I find and I personally had no issues with the tires, but the AWD missing is just holding it back from any chance of being used sadly :(
They never even bothered modeling a powered front axle when they added AWD to the Wolf Pack Western Star trucks. Frankly, it bothers me more than I care to admit. I suspect if they did add AWD to the new truck, it might be more of the same

@@fullhousegaming193there was a previous truck before the western star pack that didnt have its awd axle model for a while..maybe the twin steer icr. All the same sabar added it only if a bit late. The backlash of this entire pack lacking awd made it a last minute addition..i suspect sabar is indeed working on there models..sabar does actually pay attention to this*
Every lifted axel works as a change to suspension mode. That's why I never understood the hatred, in almost every situation I found myself stuck, changing the mode got me out of.
... except for this thing. I can get nearly as good performance out of the Ford CLT 9000. I want to love this thing because it looks so cool but its just so bad. The starting GMC does better fully upgraded.
I REALLY hope the Jat thing isn't a bug, thats improved several of the more tippy trucks substantially.
Worth a mention that with the arrival of Season 12 the truck received some updates.
Moved from Heavy to Highway category.
Received an always on differential lock.
It's factory tyres are matching the Pacific P512 stats.
Also the off-road transmission gear ratio is altered a bit.
In high gear with the always on diff lock it's pretty good at the moment.
Bit of a downside that the truck is a bit tippy with the larger wheel, so i recommend to use the smaller size wheels.
Maybe worth another go for everyone who get this truck in the past then wrote it off.
Good points! I seem to remember the tyre boost to 3.4 so just a tiny bit less than the P512 at 3.5. I'll give it another go in Season 12.
Love the w990. Dont love the 963. Huge kenworth fan irl. Best tractors ive ever driven. Love that its not awd but has difflock. Like 99.9% of actual american rigs on the road. P512 is only better cause the modded ohd1s. The bias and random nerfs and buffs the devs gave trucks for balance is a terrible "feature" of the game.
What's wrong with the 963?
So many people shit on the 963 when in reality its really one of the best trucks in the game. I was overhauling cargo and pulling long logs up 60 degree inclines all night last night in Yukon and its an absolute beast. Any time someone says its bad I have 15L Wanderer engine, Advanced Special gearbox, and JAT MSH III on copy and paste XD. Also long time no see Vlad :D @@vladvulcan
I like this truck. It sucks at Snowrunner, but it’s fun to me for finishing Michigan.
The W990 driving through puddles makes it's larger cousin the 963 seem like a trophy truck in terms of speed, which is saying a lot since its a rolling mansion that can barely move itself. Would still use it for everything tho(963).

@@vladvulcan I’m at 1100+ hours on Steam and about 900 (before cross saves were a thing I shifted to a gaming pc). I haven’t tried the Kenworth yet, my favo truck was the Azov, but since release I usually maintain a fleet of Mastodons combined with a few Tuz
This truck not having AWD is actually a big selling point for me. I have been longing for a truck like this for quite some time. Driving the Transtar as much as I do I always thought it would be nice to have a truck of that sort but with a diff-lock (the P512 doesn't really count since it has special tires and is larger/wider than a typical truck).
The only truck DLC I have bought so far is the wolfpack. My next most likely truck DLC purchase would be between this truck and the Brigadier.
I did think about mentioning the variety of not always relying on AWD so I get it. Depends what you want from the game. But for me it's just too frustrating, especially after driving the 512!
Those western stars are amazing
I actually enjoy driving the 512, it's a nice challenge, plus the rear tires are great! I don't think I'll mind this truck much.

Whoa, nice one! I can totally understand you. I also love using highway trucks wherever I can. This will be a great addition to the fleet. Having 52" OHD tires is also a big selling point to me.
id take a w900 with decent options. i drive a 2013 W900 daycab 13 spd, shes got diffloc and power divider as standard
i use the p512 often, i like a challenge. my playstyle theres often resq truks around
We need a KW Twin Steer, whichever variant. Thats why I purchased the Truck. Also, 1:47 would've completey destroyed that truck, a year ago.
I like this truck, for me it is a much better Transstar / CLT9000 because of difflock and having repair points. Yes it is not another Tayga, but I like the challenge, and it has a better range as the 512.

Except it has heavy duals! I'm so tired of them constantly adding new DLC "heavy" trucks with mere UODs at best... now we are talking! 52" OHDs, babe! Or the special tires, those are also great.
I’m not trying to defend this truck, but I say don’t give up on it yet if they could just add AWD to it then it is a complete different truck. I know some people are mentioning the P512 but you gotta remember that truck does not have AWD and it only has DIF in the game.

I have a confession to make. I bought it before your video and I feel like a twit for it. I feel like I will be able to find the right spot for it in my fleet though, without those ridiculous exhaust organ pipes of course.
I feel bad my video didn't arrive early enough but I'm sure fun can be had if you make the effort. A few maps with a fair bit of old tarmac.
Although a great looking truck, I have to agree it's a bit of garbage without awd. I would love to use the truck more if they would fix 2 things. Add AWD and fix the sliding around at higher speed regardless of the weight in the back. Using a trailer doesn't help much either as it gets stuck more often. 💔
This isn't a great truck, especially in mud, but it's cheap, supports the developers, looks good and will probably be improved later on. For the price it's worth buying it and then just cashing it in for in game currency. Just because it's not OP is no reason to avoid it, it'll still do a job, it's just using it is a learning experience.
Indeed but until it's improved it's quite frustrating and money is better spent elsewhere. To some £4 is not readily available.
I think it’s a pretty nice truck for being in the highway category especially since it has always on diff lock now.
it's pretty okay but i have noticed you need to be quick to adjust your gearbox as this thing wheelspins quite a bit. it has impressed me at times holding the auto gears offroad.
that being said, in most circumstances, i would trust the p512 over this. i think it feels more dug into the terrain weighing about 12.4 tons as opposed to 8.8 tons. (voron d as opposed to wws 4964 for some perspective) vehicles over 10 tons tend to have less issues with wheelspin regardless of power to weight. having crack tires also helps lol
It's funny how the devs keep adding new trucks heavy, even they are not heavy at all. Someone needs to remind them that there's still a highway and a heavy-duty trucks classes.
@@vladvulcan FOR REAL, remember when the 57x was in the heavy class? 💀 the 1424 and the 1430 should probably be in the heavy duty class. though i think the 1430 is probably fitting for the offroad class now that it has awd.

Yes and according to the accurate so far Kodiak paintjob it could be Chernobyl. We shall see.
Intended for pavement if vanilla, or just add AWD through modding it and enjoy the custom paintjob whatever you want to play it. I tried it in Taymir, it needs AWD really badly, otherwise it gets stuck really easily. Will see in time.
It's confirmed that the unique tyres will get the same stats as the Pacific 512Pfs unique tyres in the upcoming Season 12.
So she will be usable after that.
I thought the stats were 3.4 versus 3.5 for the P512 or did that change again? Either way, it will definitely help though I still prefer the P512.
@@ATribeCalledCars Apparently the difference between the tyres was huge and originally they wanted the Kenworth to be an alternative to the P512. But it didn't go well for the first time. Sadly I'm just feeding from the information what i get from forums and from my playing experience because as I'm playing on Xbox, so i cannot verify this by numbers.
But apparently Season 12 is up on PTS now and they fixed the tyre values plus they fixed all JAT tyres "wide stance" as well.
The Cat CT681 with the push-axle also has a raised suspension option

Totally agree on this one. It is a cool looking truck but is frustrating to useless in just about any type of mud. Wish I would have saved my money.

Getting unwinchably stuck in snowrunner is a skill issue, 100%. Go yank it out with a scout or your choice of rescue truck.

Don't use JAT on this. W990 tires or plain old OHD I.

The Mastodon dlc is understandable, but what is this? This kind of truck will only move on tarmac roads and increase your pain level any other time.
Yep, as it is now it's really not worth bothering with.
Mastodon is pay-to-win. This is... pay to ride in style.
Despite the negative reviews and lack of AWD, I've really liked using it in the British Columbia region of the game! It may take a while but I am happy with it.
I think that if this could be fitted with large P16 tires, i'd like it.

Tbh with the high range gearbox and best engine upgrade I find this truck to be extremely capable especially after the update I’ve not been stuck once on season 12 I use flatbed with a crane I think it’s awful as a semi truck though the fifth wheel is too far back.
Perhaps they should have gone with a kenworth k500 6x6 or a C500 that has an 8x8 and 10x10 version 🤷♂️

I am relatively new to game doing only region specific trucks in a mostly hard game+ settings game and was near 100 percent in Alaska. I bought the 990 thinking it would be a decent truck until I could get to some of the better ones but ended up selling it for a 50 percent loss. The bigger Kenworth tires were better than JATS but it just couldnt handle any semi deep mud well with any sort of big load, sold the 990 and P16 and bought the P12.
The bigger diameter tires do not really help it out enough with just a diff lock. It could be an ok highway truck, the extra torque doesn't really do anything for it either in most situations, even the 681 faired better for me.
Seems strange to me. 2.5 in mud should've gotten you far. What kind of load did you try to haul with it?
I was attempting to use it for some long logs in Alaska, which I know is pushing it. Too many spots even empty it struggles to get through. ( I did spend many hours using it in Alaska, but I felt it was slowing me down)
Logging in Alaska is hard. I dread about that route from lumber station to the sawmill in White Valley - even P12 struggled there.
Do not get me wrong the 990 is a decent truck, but given the fleet of US trucks I had (all the free ones in Michigan and Alaska, and a purchased 681), I didn't feel the 990 had any real use for me other than as a maintenance/fuel hauler, I already had other trucks that filled my roles better and in selling it and my P16 i could afford the P12 which with new JAT tires seems capable of most anything along with the Derry 3194 (Oshkosh m911) If I wasn't doing a US region specific then Russia region specific playthrough with limited funds it might have been more useful.

Unfortunately, the tyres have been made better so it is more useful. But not worth buying unless you absolutely have to complete your fleet.

the only good dead axle truck is that western star 1 with 2 dead axles its like the twinsteer throw it in high and it goes through a lot of hard stuff

Personally, I enjoy driving it. Yes, P512 is better - but it is also hungrier and has a smaller fuel tank. Don't expect anything major from it, drive it like a highway truck - and you will not be disappointed.
As someone who drives a 2021 T880 everyday for a job, very disappointed with the W990

I hate the digital dash. In the real world I've driven then a lot and nothing but issues with them, especially logging
I've been complaining about the push to digital dials at the expense of buttons for years, partly because of safety but also because of reliability. Less of an issue for the former if it's not a touchscreen though!
Its really not that bad in mud
W990 is absolute shite at pulling semi trailors. But put weight directly on top of the rear axles, and you have a grip demon. It may not be able to haul 2 medium logs at the same time, but it'll climb steep hills without any problems.
Did you know that it was 31.3C at 3am this morning.

I feel like they're just trying to please sponsors. I mean, I get it, they need money, but must the trucks be so useless? I guess you can't say it's pay to win, lol, unlike the tire pack.
I do wonder whether the manufacturer has any say over performance in the game. Kind of undermines the product perception if it's mostly frustrating.

Although I agree with the truck being under its potential by not giving it AWD I also don't think this is really good review. Players are so spoiled now by all those russian OP trucks that they judge an american highway truck by its (non-)ability to fly through mud without a winch.

I came to you tube to see if anyone else was disappointed in this Kenworth. I am not alone. It its worthless offroad. Trying to do anything in Kola Peninsula is pointless in this Kenworth. Sad really for all the power it has.

I've been driving a Kenworth W990 in Snowrunner for over two years now, and she's beautiful, powerful, as AWD, and it didn't cost me a dime. 😊
If it had awd it wouldn't be awful I won't spend my money I only use a few stock vehicles anyway.
The game is called SNOWRUNNER every vehicle should have AWD, DIFF-LOCK AND CHAINS AND SNOW TIRES.

This truck without AWD is just useless. Anyone singing songs of praise is just trying to justify their purchase. Anyone saying skill is a fool cos snowrunner is not a game of skill but a game of experience and common sense.
I got stuck twice coming out of the quarry in Smithville dam with this truck. It only had bed with cement, no trailer. I than did the same route with the International HX520 but with a trailer this time. The HX520 did not get stuck even once.
The best use for the W990 would be icy asphalt deliveries. It cannot even serve as a support truck cos you would need another support truck to support it first.
snowrunner is definitely a game of skill. Want to drive American rigs without skill - go get ATS.

@@dragonbutt this is a pure money grab. There are game-braking bugs in a game so I won't be excited about forgettable nd average truck with 3 bumpers. If this truck would have plenty of customisation I would be ok with it and treat it as a collector item.
