In OCS at Ft. Sill in the summer of 1967, I trained on the M109…the short barreled version with the cab-mounted rammer. During my career, I was in battalions equipped with that variety and the A1 version with the long barrel. One hell of a platform!
I served as a commander of a Swiss M109. The Swiss Army got a different upgraded version. We already had a rammer back then (1985). The upgraded version has a 5 men crew and no external personal.
A FOB I was on in Iraq had a couple of these. When the crew would get their fire missions, they were nice enough to let us know about it so we wouldn't get scared half to death when those things fired.
Pretty cool ! Sounds like it still has the 8V 71 Detroit Diesel engine in it .👍
During my Army career (was a 52E) I would see all the tankers and CDAT’s in line for hours at the wash rack. That is when I realized that I had chosen a worthwhile MOS.
I was a 45 kilo ( turret mechanic) 3rd support, I worked on M1s , spent half my life on the ranges at Graff ( Germany) and the other half on wash racks ( not so bad in the summer , but really really sucked in the winter) had a 109 van and a 113 trying to get the mud outta those boggy wheels was a nightmare!!
Hell of a good civilian career path as well
@Acemechanicalservices most jobs in the military don't translate to the civilian market and quite honestly most employers don't care about military service anymore!!!
@@PenSteel-ih8qr
I was replying to the op, his job certainly does
@Acemechanicalservices no problem , I'm a 30 year army guy , so I really don't know much about the real world😁😁
The C-130 Hercules is a FREAKING BEAST.
My 1st MOS and favorite by far in my career was 13B. King of Battle!
I was at theGermany army from 1990 until 91. The artillery battalion of your Brigade was equipped with the M109. That was more than 30 years ago…
I mentioned that just to put it into reality …
Was sind das für Kisten die nicht automatisch nachladen ?
I was in Germany from 1989 to 93 Schwienfurt Conn Barracks Bravo Company 3rd support attached to 3/64 Armour ( tank Battalion) I was a turret mechanic
84-5 hier 😎
I remember years ago when my unit went to NTC, and we (engineers) worked alongside a tank unit. After we staged all of our equipment ready to leave, some Bradley's, Abrams, and some Paladins passed by. We all sat there and watched them drive past. One of the Paladins at the rear stopped, and they got out to look at our D7RII Dozer. Guess some of them have never seen a simple Dozer before, lol. The tank guys got out and were taking pictures by our Dozer as we were by their Paladin taking pictures of our own of the tank 😅.
米軍の兵器なので、もっと自動化され、高度化されているだろうと想像していました。
ビデオを見て、ほぼすべてのプロセスに人間の介入が必要であり、依然として非常にアナログなプロセスであることに気づきました。

The beast needs either a back up camera or a backup mirror. Just kidding an awesome weapon. Approximately how many rounds before the barrel needs to be replaced?
Awesome video!
I spent a fair amount of time in the Paladin. No1 man, Driver, CAT Driver, TC. Good times.
👍 how many rounds per minute can at fire.?
@@stanmans Max of 8 rounds per minute IF your No1 man is a stud. My best was 6 but the crew had them fused and ready to ram. Sustained RoF is 1 round per minute.
Awesome
I did not know how spacious it is inside.
The King of the battle is now FPV Drones.
Not against electro magnetic interference.
Nope! Artillery will always be king of battle. The drones make them even more effective though!
@@courtneygostlingобновите свои знания, уже есть дроны которые успешно работают при противодействии "радио электронной защиты". Россия использует их в специальной военной операции на Украине.

Yep. Hellfire and bombs. Infantry. Counter battery fire. Tanks. Hummers with Tow. Fighters. Bombers. Land mines. 120mm mortars.
Helicopters.
Battlefield is a dangerous place. Very.
Kind of reminds me of the Ferdinand. The monstrous tank built by the Germans during World War II
The American anti tank gun never talked about in history.
The beast needs either a back up camera or a backup mirror. Just kidding an awesome weapon.
Is there a manual push variant of the howitzer? Self propelled sounds so understatement(y)
Actually there is , they still have howitzers that they tow behind 5 tons , self propelled simply means it's got tracks and a motor!!
Towed artillery. Lighter, less maintenance, sitting duck.
@nunyabusiness863 this is true , even with mortars, most are now mounted inside 113s and they have a large hatch on the top of them so they can move the mortars and the mortar teams in the same vehicle , they just use forward observers ( fistv and itv) to find targets and range
Wondered what self propelled meant
@@PenSteel-ih8qr I was being snarky for fun, but thank you for that info, my brother used to operate howitzers in the Marines, he said they were something else.
M110 fired rounds that are massive 200 pounds a piece.
They did it in Kindy!
Almost 100% of the time, the media will call the M109 a "Tank", which it ain't.
More like Palpatine howitzer😳😁
Pax Romana✊🏽
Problem is with all US tech is that no matter how awesome it is, is A it costs millions to counter $hundreds, and it’s so complicated to move to other countries. Not just the equipment, but all the support staff.
Paladin is a solid system but they are outclassed by the German, South Korean and Swedish systems these days.
In Viet Nam we had the 8 inch and 175 self propelled artillery powerful weapons.... but todays warfare with drones makes artillery risky business..
How absolutely mind blowing is it that I’m sitting here in the comfort of my bedroom and with a few taps of my fingers I can pull up and watch this sort of stuff which was never previously available in the history of man. Thanks so much for posting content like this.

Haaa c'est beau la guerre !
Genuinely curious, I have no knowledge on the subject but I really feel like the tracks for theses things are to narrow, if the point of tracks allow for better terrain traversal surely theses things get stuck being so narrow right?
Everyone talks trash about the US until they have to fight their military 😂
Damn rite!!
Canada here. You’re spot on. Weapons and training improve every year.
in the preview it looks like they are in the ship's gun turret😆🤷🏻♀️
I mean it’s pretty much a destroyer or light cruiser gun.
The caterpillar tracks look too narrow for the weight of those M109’s. Do they get bogged easily in muddy conditions?
Bet any money that some uninformed press are calling this a tank because it has a turret.
Echt ne lachnummer😂😂😂
Claim your TBI from VA!
I live in Lawton just south of Fort Sill about 1 1/2 miles from the front gate, when they shoot these 155's it rattles my garage door.....and they have about 55,000 acres of range! They shoot 60,000 plus 105 rounds a year training the new recruits.
But no more 8 inch.
Can it be destroyed by a drone?
Indeed just like any self propelled howitzer
SIX (not three) make up a battery. Three is a firing platoon.

Turboprops don't have full military power setting. That's just the fighter/attack jets.
Yeah but can they fly?
Ok ❤❤❤
Looks like an A4 to me, M185 gun tube but I could be wrong...
The british light gun 105mm as its known in the british royal artillery/royal marine commandos is a battle proven gun introduced in the 70s to british forces it seen action in falklands war, the boshin war, etc desert storm, afghanistan etc the british gun has a longer barrel as a result it can lob a shell 20 miles away ,very accurate ,rugged , a stalwart of a gun.
The Americans were looking for off the shelf gun already in use and chose the british gun after testing the acquired rights to copy their own gun for some reason the original breech block was replaced by their own design breach block and a short barrel there now its american gun

If people lived in peace, and there were no wars or military budgets or money to help other countries with their wars … citizens would have free food, healthcare, and housing … even expense paid vacations once a month!
People want to live in peace, have cook outs, and enjoy their families.

Funny…no DEF or emissions regs on those. They impose those regs on the truckers hauling food and fuel, but not on themselves.
Hercky birds used to have JATO.
25 miles?,do they compensate for the curve of the earth????
If a sniper making a long range shot under 1 mile has to compensate for the curve of the Earth…..what do you think??
@@ryanm4013 l don't know that's why lm asking smart people like you.
Drones are a real danger for these Paladins.
Why shoot shells, when you can send drones out to guide a missile with 99.9% accuracy? The "tank" releasing the missile can be 3o miles away. The key is going to be miniaturizing drones, and making them cheaper and cheaper.
It'a 155mm. What makes it "monstrously" powerful? Still fairly competent but rapidly becoming outdated.
The problem with US weaponry is always operator error.
The Blue Angels they aint.
It doesn't have a high firing rate though. Snale artillery 🤷🤷
Por ese motivo este tipo de cañón autopropulsado, siempre se desplaza en compañía de al menos, otros seis iguales a él. Así, los ataques se realizan en modo tandem, saturando de obuses, un área determinada.-
🇨🇱
Stuff that. I would suddenly find somewhere else to be.
Awesome, but it can still be wiped out by a drone or two, and that's a huge problem.
Bruh, the drone would be useless if the target have electromagnetic interference and I'm sure the US already have that counter.
How’s the gas mileage?
