As a lifeguard, these videos help me so much when reviewing safety protocols and procedures. I’ve thankfully never had to treat anything more than a deep cut on a patron, but these videos help me feel better and more aware of what to do and how to do things when the time comes. Thank you Bondi Lifeguards!
I think that when she got cut with her putting pressure on the cut as soon as she did help stop some of the blood flow as the lifeguard did say that there wasn't a lot of blood which was rare for how big the cut was. while it say that she did need some type of surgery it did look like she got cut in maybe the more fleshy part of the thigh and maybe got more flesh than blood vessals which i know from experience that area does look bad but it more of a sliced off skin like injury that looks really bad but it's more of just looks worse than it is. So glad that she is okay
💜💜💜 That last one was… phew! And Sammy having broken her neck before, so knowing the feeling and signs must have been the scariest thing ever. So glad it wasn’t a worse case scenario. But watching Jules go from Drill Sergeant mode to Mama Bear once they had her out of the water was 👌🏽 You guys truly are a special breed. 🫡💜💜💜💜
A recent study on epinephrine auto injectors found that the majority of them are still over 90% effective up to 5 years past their date. That doesnt mean keep them forever but if you get in trouble and its all you have, USE IT. And use it as soon as severe symptoms start. Light headed feeling, throat/mouth swelling, its ok to use. It wont hurt you but your reaction could. Be safe, everyone.
We were always told, if an epipen is expired, as long as the fluid inside is still clear (not milky or anything) it should still work as it should! Obviously get new ones, but if it’s an emergency, use it as long as the fluid inside is clear (there is a little window you can look through).
It's also best to hold it in for 10 seconds (he did in the video 😊) because although for the epipen brand you only need 3 seconds, there are other brands of adrenaline auto injector. A Jext pen needs 10 seconds and an emerade pen needs 5 seconds. You may not be familiar with which one the person has. But the instructions are always on the pen
I don't know if they cut some of the conversation but you know it's bad when it goes: "Any description we can give the ambo?" "Yeah, left leg. And tell them to get down here."
I just want to say how much I appreciate all lifeguards and what they do, thank you guys so much for putting others lives first and keeping beach goers safe!
Valeriy was such a big man, thankfully has wasn't harmed and lifeguards helped him. Sammy scared me the most, happy to see her happy and so thankful 😂You guys are absolutely amazing!!
That first girl is so lucky they had an epipen on hand, i'll assume from this day she carried an indate epipen herself from now on because she was so lucky. These guys are so great, i love watching and rewatching their videos and episodes, absolute heroes
True, but you can still use out of date epipen if it's all you've got, it's better than nothing 😊 you can even sign up for a free expiry reminder on the epipen website
Luckily epipens are still about 90% functional until 5 years after the expiration. As long as the liquid inside is clear and not cloudy it should be fine. Obviously still get an in date EpiPen but in a pinch, the expired one can be life saving.
Jules reminds me of a manager I had in college. She was authoritative when she needed to be but was such a Mom to all of her employees. I remember once after a particularly rough night i broke down crying in her arms so hard I was shaking. Staci, the manager, from that night forward insisted that I tell her if I was ever having a mental breakdown at work so we could talk it out. I watch Jules when I particularly miss Staci's second-mother-to-me love.
My family and I went to bondi a couple of days ago, but sadly didn't get a chance to meet the lifeguards. Hope we will next time! You guys are the best!! Thanks for everything you lifeguards do.
Grate Job Folks At Bondi been watching over the YT years now and you have all done a wicked job over the years there is nothing more than massive respect to you all
The girl with the allergic reaction as someone who has allergies that anaphylactic That was cross-contamination. She probably didn't tell the restaurant that she's allergic to not thinking well. I'm just having a burger and burgers don't have nuts on them. You always have to tell the kitchen. Even if what you're ordering doesn't have what you're allergic to on it. So they know to be extra careful with your food. No shame it is very easy to forget. Especially when you're on vacation.
Ahh great idea! It's definitely a good idea to share your allergies with any restaurant just incase of cross contamination! Restaurants can be so hectic so there's always a chance 😩
Every time i feel down i watch one of there cideos and then i feel so much better because its just so fin watching them because u learn something new every Second of their videos, so i hope they keep doing what there doing and keep helping people
thinking about the first one who went into anaphylactic shock, theirs a possibility her food could have been in contact with some peanut oil or cooked in peanut oil. i cant imagine how scary that is
I told myself recently "Self you are pickled and you aint gonna cry any more about nothing". Being old enough to be Sammy's dad, her story made realize I'm not so pickled after all!
Broken 7 bones in my life, torn 3 muscles and ripped a cpl Tendons... Immediate pain...usually not from a clean break, it most of time, soft tissue damage... a Break, the body usually goes immediately into shock mode, negating the pain, I've walked on a broken ankle and broke my wrist, never knowing until yrs later..
The flash rip reminded me that not everyone knows about riptides. If you ever plan on going to the beach, it's absolutely vital to learn about them and what to do when you're caught in one!
Spinal injuries can be devastating. That girl was lucky that she didn’t end up with permanent paralysis in any of her limbs. With any spinal injury, or suspected spinal injury for that matter, you must immobilize the head and neck immediately and make sure the person doesn’t try to move to prevent further injury or even permanent paralysis. I’m surprised that girl isn’t afraid of the water after that!
Medical emergencies are very scary. I work at a restaurant and a man was walking from the bathroom and suddenly turned to walk through a door but hit the wall instead, I thought he was just being funny for a second but then he fell to the floor and passed in and out of consciousness for a few minutes
reminder!!! just because an epipen is expired, it doesn’t mean it’ll do you more harm than good. when they expire, it’s just less likely to work. it’s not like the contents of the epipen will hurt you (but it is good to stay up to date on them becayse ofc when they expire it won’t work as effectively- but also an expired epipen is better than no epipen!!!!)
For the spinal injury trying to move her straight when she was on the surfboard was incredibly dangerous especially the pulling around her head (by moving it upwards and moving the body seperatly). The moment she arrived on rhe beach a collar or blocks should have been placed and if there weren't any better to leave her lying that way until the ambulance arrives. You can google the best grip to keep a neck stable and it's not only holding her head. I get that they did the best they could but for other people watching, don't do that.
And when strapping the patient onto a stretcher, you should start around the abdomen, not the head, incase the body moves, causing further damage, even with a collar on. Edit: they were probably improvising.
Hope everyone is alright!! 😢😢 i love bondi❤ its my fav show and PLACE EVER!!!!!❤❤❤😊 edit: is it ok to say hi to you guys? :) Edit: nvm its ok 😢its top tier on me bucket list❤❤ :D
The first girl: “I think I’m having and anaphylactic fit” The guy speaking about it: “she was super pale” First guy in black: jumps up immediately to help First guy in blue: “ok” takes his time Second guy in blue: “take who’s time to get up” Second guy in black: doesn’t even move I’m sorry I had to 😂
Possible that Larry could’ve got hypothermia if he was white ish blue ish as a kid I got hypothermia in pools and oceans which might’ve caused him too get a bit nauseous (just a hypothetical guess)
Gotta say, I almost 'lost my blob' as the frantic woman with the slashed leg waited for the ambulance... then the ambulance arrives and the medics are just casually strolling down to the station, as if they are on a coffee break! (Someones life is at risk, and they could not be bothered to make an effort to get there quickly, because they are employed by the government and they all know they will get paid the same whether someone lives or not.)
Dropping your gear or equipment because you're trying to move too fast on sand would be worse than being 2-5 seconds late to a patient that's already being monitored.
Most beaches in Australia in population areas have a surf club whose members are volunteers. Most start out as nippers (juniors) training Saturday or Sunday Mornings from about 5 years of age. They patrol the beaches on a roster and compete against other surf clubs in surf competitions. Been watching these videos two words come to mind…..life jackets if you’re not a strong swimmer and for kids, absolutely and Epi pens! This woman with the nut allergy should ALWAYS carry an Epi pen. People seem to be very irresponsible ie, the man who drown in the south section because he couldn’t swim!!!
Epi-pens are full of epinephrine (aka adrenaline), thus the name, they temporarily reduce the effects of anaphylactic shock (mainly the narrowing of airways and the drop in blood pressure) enough that they can be taken to the hospital. Adrenaline is a normal hormone produced by our bodies responsible for the majority of the physical part of fight or flight, so it would be the same as getting a shot of straight adrenaline. Accidental epi-pen injections usually occur when someone stabs their thumb by having the pen backwards, since anaphylactic shock is pretty easy to recognize, and usually just causes your heart rate to speed up and your blood pressure to increase, but in RARE worst-case scenarios can lead to tissue death since the blood vessels contract and can staunch blood flow. Epi-pens are injected in the thigh, so the risk of the blood vessels being super constricted to the point of restricting blood flow there are low. TL;DR: they might feel a little gross at worst unless they have other health issues. It's basically fight or flight without your brain involved. Better safe than sorry.

👩🎤 What happens if you give an eppy pen shot and it’s not an anaphylactic event.??? What happens to the patient.???
