🔧 Built by Truckers, for Truckers 🔧
Founded by Chace Barber and Eric Little in 2016, Edison Motors is a testament to the trucking spirit. Beginning with a 1969 Kenworth Logging Truck named "Old Blue," they journeyed from Merritt, BC, hauling logs to the Yukon and drilling rigs in Alberta. Frustrated with newer trucks, they rebuilt classics from the frame up, expanding into power generation and off-grid solar systems in 2019. Their journey led to the creation of the Edison Truck, a robust electric truck tailored to logging and heavy vocational industries.
🔩 Upgrade Without Replacing: Edison Electrification Kit 🔩
Keep trucks on the road longer with the Edison Electrification kit. Upgrade your driveline to electric without replacing the entire truck. Ideal for vocational applications, this kit is a cost-effective solution. Unlike other electric trucks, Edison Motors offers customer choice. Choose between Rebuilding (utilizing existing cab and frame rails) or Remanufacturing (brand new frame and chassis).
🚚 Payload Efficiency: The Weight Balance 🚚
Edison Trucks match the weight of a normal diesel truck. With reduced motor weight and additional fuel balancing out battery weight, experience efficiency and increased payload capacity. The L series, though slightly heavier, remains comparable to a normal diesel truck.
🛠️ Keep Your Equipment with Rebuilt Trucks 🛠️
For vocational trucks, keep your equipment with a rebuilt truck. Edison's e-pto and control system integrate seamlessly. No need to replace your entire body when upgrading to an electric truck.
🔧 Bespoke Manufacturing: Handcrafted to Your Needs 🔧
The manufacturing process at Edison Motors is a testament to their commitment to customer satisfaction. Each Edison Truck undergoes a meticulous five-step process, from frame and rolling chassis preparation to final touches and rigorous testing. The focus is on building a truck that reflects the customer's requirements, embracing the philosophy of "Building The Truck Of The Future With The Quality Of The Past."
🔌 Electric or Diesel-Electric: Your Power, Your Choice 🔌
Edison Motors offers both fully electric and diesel-electric vocational trucks based on customer demands. The onboard generator ensures continuous operation in areas lacking charging infrastructure.
💡 Advantages of Electric: Power, Torque, Longevity 💡
Edison Trucks bring increased power, torque, reliability, and longevity. Inspired by electric freight trains, regenerative ability harnesses energy for efficient uphill climbs.
⚙️ Efficiency Redefined: Diesel-Electric Technology ⚙️
Diesel-electric technology delivers peak load demand energy supply. Batteries initiate movement, and the diesel generator recharges the battery, capturing braking energy for restarts. The generator's constant RPM eliminates turbo lag.
🌿 Environmental Benefits: Paving the Way for Change 🌿
Diesel-electric technology results in up to 70-100% fuel savings, directly correlating to a 75%-100% reduction in diesel exhaust. Smaller lithium batteries mean less environmental damage. Diesel-electric offers a practical transition to electric for energy-intensive trucking industries. Generator diesel engines ensure optimal fuel/air ratio, contributing to a hotter and cleaner burn of emissions.

First minute, letting other manufacturers call themselves out lol 😂
Should have followed up with "Oh you own facilities overseas?" They're basically the equivalent of amazon resellers
Assembled in Canada from global components.
Uh, buh, um, eh, a lot of words that meant nothing as a reply 😂😂😂 called em out to their faces
Chase needs to look into this further to give them a fair shake. It looks to me like they do build some vehicles or at least modify them. They have a production facility with a decent amount of manufacturing equipment.
@@orange3203 it was literally the same golf kart on alibaba. Same interiors too.
Don’t resell stuff from China and say you made everything here in Canada
Tell me your golf cart is overpriced without telling me your golf cart is overpriced 😂
LOL! That was FUNNY!! 😂😂😂
That was Bad ass!! Way to pull their hoe card!!
Calling out false advertising. 😮
I had to rewatch multiple times because the “oh sh1t” look when they got caught after repeating themselves on the lie😂
I loved when he called them out. No BS and even if it is "assembled" in Canada doesn't make it Canadian
Calling out the fakes. Great job!
Definitely not fakes, he was way off base on that.
@@Scoobienorthagain, they lied and had to backtrack about their manufacturing process. They said "made from the ground up, here in Canada". That's deceptive advertising if what they really meant was "assembled from the ground up in Canada, made in China". Simp all you want for them, but none of us have to support or coddle deceptive business. We're all tired of that.
@@niftytheviking I’ll agree to disagree. There’s nothing deceptive from them. I’ve walked there production line and seen customers do the same thing. They are very open to their customers. They are good people that work there. Chase being incredibly smart found an opening and hit them. I feel he was wrong knowing very little about them obviously.
WoW did you call them out!
Some difference in price ....
4500 alibaba sell them to us for 30k?!, Im glad you called them out, dirty shysters😂
Lets say they sold them for 9K with a warranty and the option of a maintenance contract for say 1K - 2K a year, that would be fair. 30K is a hell of a gouge. Still racist flag suckers deserve what they get no matter what country they're in. Patriotism is taking a bullet for a politician at the end of the day.
I got a good laugh when Chase called the axles “light duty” on the Peterbuilt. You know someone is thinking on a different level when they consider a Class 8 tractor light duty.
It is a light duty truck rated for 80,000 lbs... its prolly a single frame to.
I think he means more of a road use
Light duty as in highway truck, Heavy duty as in Heavy hauling and logging
A class 8 is light duty 80,000lb now you start doing 150,000lb and more them trucks don't hold up 😂
@@EO.studiosI remember one driver I knew bought an old FLD, single frame, and started hauling b-trains moving steel up and down the 401. I don't think it lived very long, but it got him started!
SC cart being caught red handed in a lie 😂
They didn't have much to say when he called em out, either 😂
Made in Canada...a subsidiary of China, that was the epitome of false advertising and the price, holy crap that is ridiculous. You could sooo read Chances mind LOL. Love the elephant, awesome job on designing it Dan, you're a piece of history now :-).
There were two elephants in the room that day; Topsy and the SC cart’s dirty little secret😂
A wheel with a lightning arrow wrapping back over the top would make a nice simple icon for Regen braking.
I agree, let's make this a thing
I'd do that with a brake icon
Or just type "Regen braking symbol" into google and use what is conventional.
Toyota does have an icon it's essentially ((RBS))
I cannot wait to see this truck here in Australia pulling a road train that would be a good test for it
"Oh so they're assembled in Canada then" Gotta love Chase, calling people out. My first exposure to Chase was a short video where he's ragging on the "aerodynamic windshields" not helping much when you're towing a D10 Dozer.
OH Schnap!!! SANDY MUNRO is impressed with Edison. That's huge.
Any truck with a cat motor under the hood and front mudflaps is instant badass!
This is a very impressive truck!
Great job guys ❤
Thank you!
I’m just glad someone is doing what I would call the “common sense” next step towards electric. It frustrates me how all the big manufactures and governments want to push hard right through to full electric even though the battery technology isn’t there. Don’t get me started on these plug in hybrids that are a complete cash grab to get government money. You guys are awesome!
Isn't Topsy a plug-in hybrid?
Seems like plug in hybrids are the ones that work right. I like having options between electric or gas as well as the best reliability of both rather than some weird symbiotic fusion motor that gives you the worst electric experience, the weakest gas engine, and the worst transmission.
I have owned both and plug in hybrids beat traditional hybrids out the park. Electric car with a range extender is the best way. I never plug mine in. My neighbor never puts gas in his, and both work fine. If we ever needed to drive 700 miles, I'm sure I'd have to dig up the plug from my garage and charge overnight as well as put premium in the tank.
Topsy is literally a plug-in hybrid. 🤣
@@Studio23Mediait is a hybrid you can plug in but the range extender means you never have to plug it in as long as you fill the fuel up.
That thing half way down your arm is your elbow.
@@dylanmorgan5589 the plug in hybrids that I see don’t have regen braking, and once the batteries are too low it’s just a gas car that weighs 800 lbs more because it has to lug dead batteries around. If you commute 30 miles sure it’s great.
My wife drives a Camry hybrid, the transmission is the electric motor and has so few moving parts.
"The cold is 60 degrees, and the hot is 84 degrees." Bunch of Yankees 🤣
Lol, he's not wrong. I live in WV and I imagine I might look like a marshmallow up there. The worst I remember, not experienced, is -15°F, -40°F is a no go. Even though I generally work in the cold, I don't want it.
Thank you Ronald Reagan.
Chinese parts, imported, put together and priced as made there. Not just assembled, it drives me nuts. Edit: the golf carts not Edison 😂
Same thing happens with all the "Made in USA" products that people beat their chest over
I wonder if they know how many children hands must of put those together.
Most people are good but the few people like that guy ruin it for everyone.
Keep the elephant hood ornament 😂 that's stellar!
Great job, guys. I am looking forward to seeing the next steps
My biggest worry for Edison in the next 5 years is the "choke on it" problem. figure there's one more prototype and then production. If everything goes well, you're going to have logging and mining orders out the ears. The next step should not be another one off, you need to make at least 3-5 of the same thing so you can get a feel for it. making changes off building one only gets you so far, it's when you build a bunch that you start to see patterns.
I hope you got a business card from Sandy, he's going to be a gift from the gods to you I think
And to think this thing started as 2 hunks of steel channel sitting in dirt…can’t even wrap my head around the fact chase had an idea and his charisma and determination sparked a following of equally dedicated people who would build a legacy….a new ornament to shine a new hood to cut the air it’s not as pretty as a peterbilt but like pacific it has that feeling of this is the toughest sum bitch around that will get u home at the end of a grueling journey through the woods
Those golf carts are crazy priced… you could get a Ranger for those prices.
The Ford or Polaris? 🤣
You could pay a big lad to carry you around on his shoulders like master blaster from Mad Max 3 Beyond Thunderdome.
@@pablotharpalo5685 exactly
Keep in mind they are custom made for each customer, fully custom interior, paint, lifts, accessories. Custom isn’t cheap.
All golf carts are overpriced
Peterbilt probably designed their truck for California light duties and sold it in Canada too.
Well BC is California north
Lol the "Canadian" golf carts
I can't wait to see that thing covered in dirt and with the warm glow of the Edison logo showing through a snow powdered hood.
I hope in a few years when your the industry standard for the ev trucking industry you still just stay who you are so many people who grow forget where they came from and I speak for a lot of us we would hate to see you become a corporate yuppie
I'd say they forgot the metric thing on the Peterbilt
I started laughing when he got on one about it being nearly boiling. 😂😂 and then his realization was gold
I wish I would have found this channel a year ago or more. Becarefull of scammers. But looks like your company is a great success. Great work from great people.
You guys need to get the “Topsy” hood ornament doubled in size and mounted……very cool looking elephant
For Sandy to say you were the highlight of the show…?!?!? Pretty legit!
Buying a Edison is not just buying a truck, its buying a something that can be inherited and used daily by the grand kids, designed to be repaired, eith maintenance it can easily work for 25+ years! (The only truck that could have a 20 year 2 million mile limited warranty) awesome....
To have topsy as a chrome hood ornament is sooooooooo sick!!!! That’s incredible. Maybe give it a Canadian style and make it a mammoth! Love it! Just like Mack and the bulldog
900% mark up seems pretty reasonable for something bought on Alibaba and shipped to Vernon BC.
That warranty better be amazing 😂
Thats my works 579 EV! It's the 1st one out in the wild in the lower mainland & there are very very few others running real loads in NA. I picked it up brand new a few months ago. Perks of being the mechanic with a CDL!
The irony of your heater comment is that part of the reason it's not in service right now is that the heater was defective & we sent it back for warranty XD
That truck hauls baled recycling from Squamish/New West/the Ports but there is video of it pulling doubles up the Coq. Empty doubles..... but it scared the heck out of the engineers when the video made its way back to Peterbilt
It has some quirks - if your battery is fully charged you have very limited non-service braking until you free up some storage capacity.
Overall a really cool truck to have in the fleet. The range is pretty limited but it's dead quiet - so quiet the seat squeaking might drive you nuts
So good to see Brian from myteslaweekend. Glad to see you made your goal to complete Topsy and make it to the show! Greets from Belgium.
I wonder if SC Carts will turn off the comments if everyone goes and posts on there that they are made in china and can be bought for $4500 instead of $30000
I'll buy one of those Topsy ornaments and hang it in my Christmas tree.
If stock ever becomes available I would invest. I firmly believe that the heavy-duty industry should go hybrid till battery technology is good enough. I see a little larger scope though. Would like to see down to 1 ton truck hybrids.
They should never go public.
It won’t fit with their way of doing things.
I really want to see hybrid electric agricultural tractor. Ever since Challenger tractor lost their emissions exemptions its hard to find an ag tractor that works hard and will last 17000+ hours.
If they ever have a public stock, their competitors will buy it and control it. If Chace won't sell his shares to them, they'll use their shares to vote against everything he wants and run Edison into the ground.
Either that or a hostile takeover which would turn Edison into the current crap available.
I can't emphasize enough how listing a public stock would be the worst possible idea they could ever have.
I'll try to make this short:
If you short a stock into the ground, you don't have to declare your position or pay any tax. Fraud is never punished.
Elon Musk went public with Tesla. Shorts loaded up with everything they had and attacked electric vehicles to help it along.
Elon fought tooth and nail against them and the stock went up. This hurt the shorts in the billions.
Then they went all out attacking his (Elon) character. The stock dropped a bit but he fought them even harder.
Up went the stock price and once again, they lost billions.
Then they started buying stock...
Last year, people asked him why he was selling so much stock because he would lose control.
His answer is on Twitter (paraphrasing):
"I already lost control. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't retain control."
The company and stock are doing fine right now but the attacks against him have done their damage.
I really hope noone talks them into this. There's a reason none of the others have a public stock.
Nah, publicly traded companies get run into the ground or fuck over customers.
I finally put a finger on it.
It looks like a bulldozer cab and engine bay put on a truck frame.
And it’s excellent. But it’s been bugging me that it looked familiar for some reason.
Props to the guy behind the camera, asking some real good questions!
So they made in Canada find them online from China for ¼ the price. Well ya they are Chinese but we built them
1/10th and I'm sure you'd get a discount if you ordered a container load of them.
They aren’t made in China , they are assembled a lot better than the Chinese ones, with full custom upholstery made in house custom for each customer, custom paint, accessories. Really skies the limit with the way those carts are made. Each one is unique
@@Scoobienorth your comments are fishy, I’m pretty sure you must work for them.
@@greghuba576 I live 1000km away and definitely not on their payroll. But I have had wrenches on them before.
@@Scoobienorth $30,000 for a golf cart wiped by a Canadian rag. Do you feel insane? Also those prices are for the base models. It is another nearly $2K for upgraded seats.
awesome work guys. I think another piece of equipment that could really benefit from hybrid tech is a man lift. it spends a lot of time idling.
Yeah your right
%100, so long as they can actually be properly maintained. I don't know how many lifts I've been in that I wondered if it would start again after I shut it off. And if it's going to be working in winter here in Canada, either the battery pack needs to keep the engine warm or an override option that keeps it running needs to be available.
elephant on hood reminds me of the Hayes bear another BC truck builder
It reminded me of the old school Macs with the dog
One of the things I like about Edison is the application focused EV instead of trying to be a general purpose vehicle. It’s not a fleet truck for Highway use where long runs at highway speeds will suck an electric battery dry. Edison is looking at specific applications an seeing what works best. The flexibility of electric with the power generation and range extension of the diesel motor is what the industry should be looking at. All electric is going to be more niche than people realize, hybrids are just more economical.
Been loving following their progress. Even though they are application specific, I can see this setup working great for long haul too, where you can be a long way from a charging station and not always having the time to wait to charge. Edison Motors and FD made a great team and made an awesome truck. Love the visibility the cab has too.
Actually makes me emotional seeing all the support for you guys. We have all seen the effort and headaches that have gone into this truck and we appreciate you guys a lot
I live in the next town north of Vernon and have never heard of SC Carts. What a Joke!
Keep up the good work and truly building in Canada!
Chace giving the golf cart guys hell, lmaooo i love it. Im damn proud of Edison motors. Following the journey makes me feel like a cannuck by association.
Haha the chipmunk killed me!!
Also its awesome to watch everyone who gave their short interviews not being able to help themselves from looking at Topsy while still trying to look into the camera. She's a beaut.
Be really good to see it pulling a couple of trailers
Great concept !!! Like to see it in action.
Got me thinking WHY the big trucking manufacturers haven`t got and develop the idea first - do the hybrid truck and work the way up to a fully electrified ...... as the cars.
Love what you are doing 👍👍👍 and the ideas that you are pursuing!
Experience with late model PACCAR products, the designers of the PeterCART😂 watched your videos building both of your trucks
I would like to see the coefficient of drag tested on this truck because I'm pretty sure it's better than a normal looking "aero" truck. That cab is really thin and cuts through the air much better than a brick that's smooth.
Aerodynamics is not really a consideration at the logging road speeds…
I'd never realized " 'merica" could be pronounced "Canada" until Chase came along. Keep getting these 'merica f#@k yeah! feelings, but then I realize...
It would be cool if Edison could expand into the retro kitting of agriculture equipment. Grain cart tractors and grain trucks seriously do not need to be burning diesel hauling grain. The price of grain when inflation is accounted for hasn't changed in 40 years.
Proudly made in Canada, China.
Golf carts cost more than my parents 3 bedroom house.
11:15 Chase in the background absolutly killed me 🤣 Just wanders in completely empty headed an innocent like he just wandered into a news broadcast
2:02 I'm no trucker but that orange line sticking up doesn't look well thought out lol
That Peterbuilt is cool. That company is going places, Ill be keeping an eye on them the next few years.
I love the truck. I hope that one day this idea becomes industry standard for vocational and otr.
Did the chipmunk ever make it out of there?
The yard truck needs a robot arm to hook air lines.
Till the rubber oring is dry and the glad hands won’t mate
That peterbilt is crazy. Even daycab drivers would struggle. I am a local dump truck driver and I run over 150miles daily and there’s no way that peterbilt would work in a vocational environment
Innovators like this drive the world forward!! God bless you all.
Impressive. Wish I was still young, would have loved getting involved with this. There is one thing I particularly noticed, is that nobody has picked up / realised the fact that you do not use the engine's revs to generate speed (power) but having it run at constant and optimum revs. It is something I feel very strong about. All the best.
You soooooo called them out…
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Good catch on that golf cart scam. The world would be a better place if everyone was as honest as Edison Motors.
I kind of waited that pieterbuilt is getting trashed like the Cart manufacturer. But thats a nice review too
Love how you busted the golf carts
Looks like you got a LOT of people who wouldn’t otherwise visit an EV show to come have a look. That in and of itself is pretty impressive!
The "....ok....." got me.
You found Dan!!!!
Assembled "From the ground up"! LOL, sham on!
Regen your batteries coming down the mountain with the huge load of logs pushing the regen power…
Then using that battery charge to go back up empty for another huge load of logs.
Rinse & repeat. Great application!
i wood like to see a cabover model for tite turning areas
I know you guys have already looked at it and discussed it, and are probably still thinking about it now, but... what an amazing middle finger to the big companies and corrupt governments it would be if you guys could bring manufacturing, at least of your drives, back to Canada, or North America at least. As much of your truck as possible should be manufactured in Canada, with the quality having Canadian hands working on Canadian products would bring to it. I know, nigh impossible right now, but what a dream, eh?
@ 22:49. Is that Matt Farrell from the Undecided RUclips channel in the background?
Yes, he came out for dinner with us after.
Savage own on the golf carts
Wait to interview Sandy till he's had a few...
Love the comment on the heat control. Always gotta watch that boiling point.
😂😂
I've met a few people who would set the cab at 84*C
I have been following you guys on this build in this journey. You guys knocked it out of the park? You guys are awesome and do wonderful work. Can't wait to see the production of all your trucks and what you move forward with.
Which they did stuff like this in the state.
the guy with the brick shirt made me think of building supply delivery, a cab like a backhoe, just swivel around, operate a crane...
“We have a facility overseas, just like every other manufacturer”
Chace: *looks at self*
Chace, I don5 mind the Peterbuilt that you showcased, but is it truly a zero emissions vehicle? The tires are still emitting the same, or more than a diesel engine powered truck. What I really like about your guys truck is, you're being honest, is an extended range hybrid!!
Chase went after those golf carts like his life depended on it lol
I've been following your channel for a while now. It's great to see some working, drivable, prototypes now.

May be an issue if they go public and get bought out
I am the Edison history guy .
You Do know that Edison’s family came to the Colonies before the American revolution to NJ?
They were and loyalists and left the US after the war to to Canada .
There was an attempted revolution in Canada and the Edison family did not want to make That mistake again do they joined the revolt . Revolt failed and they escaped to Ohio !
So his dad was a Canadian though Thomas Edison was born in Milan , Ohio.
From wiki
His great grandfather, loyalist John Edeson, fled New Jersey for Nova Scotia in 1784. The family moved to Middlesex County, Upper Canada around 1811, and his grandfather, Capt. Samuel Edison Sr. served with the 1st Middlesex Militia during the War of 1812. His father, Samuel Edison Jr. moved to Vienna, Ontario, and fled to Ohio after his involvement in the Rebellion of 1837.[13]
He was an IP thief and a patent troll too.
