I saw this watch in an online auction and got fond of it right away, it looked like it had been forgotten for many years. What's interesting about it is that it have a hardened mineral glass which I think is quite unusal for these old watches. And also it has Swedish weekdays! During the restoration every part needed to be looked over, every cog wheels teeths needed to be thoroughly cleaned. But...a mistake happened in the middle of this project, the hardened mineral glass from 1968 broke =(... In the end this restoration turned out pretty good.
@@danieljacobsson5258 Yes that is quite stunning too me also, that's why I took a shoot and bought it :). I guess Citizen made Swedish dials in this period for the Swedish market, maybe english was less prefered than Swedish for this type of watches. But I don't know really :)

Worth the time and effort for sure. One of my favorite pass times and serious hobbies is restoring vintage items and bringing them back to life again. At least to items (all things of the past) have stories. Untold ones of the past. If they could only talk. Paying homage by restoring back to their original grandeur is always gratifying. Time pieces most definitely have stories and have a spirit all their own. And this Citizen is no different. Great job. The Japanese craftsman that built this original watch is somewhere smiling again thats for sure.
My father brought back a citizen watch around 1968 from Japan for me. I was like 8 years old, Thought it was so cool because the days were in Japanese, I have a Citizen dive watch now. Thanks for the show. made me think of my Dad and his gift

What a brilliant result ! It was worth the effort to find someone skilled and equipped to make you a new mineral crystal. It looks stunning on the metal mesh strap. These mesh straps are a favourite of mine due to my terminally skinny wrist.
It’s a real interesting movement this one as I did one a while ago on my channel . Counted 8 springs. The date complication is way over engineered and unlike the Japanese from my experience. Nice to see someone else tackling this one.
Hi Mike :D. I commented on your video back when you released it, I was just going to start with this project and you did almost the same cal so I was a bit lucky :). I could do some training beforehand hehe. Indeed over engineered, have done a seiko 7s26 and that was very easy.

Love to start a restoration with a dirty and non working watch ! The challenge is bigger ! This one is absolutely interesting and the final results is very good ! Thank you for sharing !! ✨👌
Hello Alain, Indeed a non working can be more of a challenge but I buy watches that I think is underestimated and the brands that I like so I dont choose if it works or not =), thank you!
That part where you take the pallet fork out and you can see the escape wheel moving and how the pallet fork regulates it was pretty neat. I nearly have the basics down now. That really showed me how it all works. Neat to see it in action
@@Watcheyes I'm new to it all, haven't gotten a watch yet, debating between a cheap Seiko or perhaps something cheap from eBay to mess with. I also like how it shows you don't really need a cleaning machine.
Oh my, what patience! I saw a movie with Charlie Chaplin the watchmaker, when he dismantled the customer's watch and then asked for his hat and filled it with parts. It's really an art to restore a watch that looks like hell. Hats off!
I picked up a similar Citizen model that ran intermittently. Took it to one of the few remaining watchmakers on the East Coast, and he recommended sending it back to Citizen. They wanted $300 just to look at it. Now I understand why. I was going to tinker around with it myself, but now I’m having doubts.
That sounds worse than highway 🛣️ robbery. The watch itself is probably worth the $300.00 (if not more). I would NOT send it back to the company, which would charge that, as well. I could understand $75.00 for a repair 👨🔧, or something, not to simply look 👀 at the watch. I really think 🤔 they’re trying to scam you on this. Your friend, Jeff.

@@Watcheyes Hey, I'm fighting with a plastic glas, which I want to repress into the bezel. I tried with manual strength and also a pressing tool. But it doesn't work. Do you have any kind of recommendation for me?
@@newclipsontheblock Should the glass only be press fitted? Measure again the watch case so you know the glass is correct measure. Thank you. Yes new springs are pre lubricated with some white stuff (Teflon?). But...this watch had some big scratches on the barrel cap which I think made the amplitude (under 200 deg) lower in the begging, so I put som grease on the spring later on so it would slip easier against this damage.
