We live in unprecedented times, which is also why the modeling for this might not be accurate. Modeling is falling behind as it is because so much of it is based on precedent and these systems are changing too quickly to be able to keep up, but when you add the unprecedented nature of an event like this hitting California it makes it even less likely to be accurate. I'm not saying people shouldn't trust reports like this, everyone absolutely should trust the science, I'm just saying that recent experience shows we should probably add on another 20% of potential danger to events like this because they are so unprecedented. I'm hoping this is just a tropical storm (that's bad enough) when it makes landfall, but if I was in the path of it I would be preparing for a Cat 4 just in case the modeling is wrong.
Nothing will happen guys. This is one big distraction I promise you don’t fall for this trick.

How peculiar to watch a hurricane warning in California. Of course it’ll just be the outside of a tropical storm when it hits, but I love rain and colder weather in the Central Valley.

It is obvious they have no clue what they are getting themselves into. But evacuation of tens of millions of people is impossible. However, people close to the Ocean or rivers should move higher. Praying for southern California, Nevada and all involved.

If that eye veers right and does make landfall on the Baja peninsula, it will start siphoning the very warm water of the Gulf Of California supply which will freshen the storm big time.

Been living here in Southern California For almost around 13 to 15 years and this will be my first Hurricane if it hit Landfall told my friends to be-careful during Sunday if they are gonna drive. Still might have to go to school on monday morning since they didn't say school is cancel yet. But Southern California has been getting a bit of rain through some days of the month and alot of high winds I'm in my HS year so hope it goes well prayers to the people that Live in San Diego, Santa Monica and others that are in the path that will get more damage.

Warn people to be aware of where water might flow when the rain gets heavy. People used to drought and occasional sprinkles could be caught off guard by flash floods. Pavement and baked dry earth won't absorb the water.

I would no longer wholly trust the accuracy of forecasts about events like this. Over the last 5-10 years computer modeling hasn't been able to keep up with the escalation in force and power of otherwise predictable events. Our modeling systems are built on observable data PLUS historical precedent, and these systems have changed so much and so fast that these models seem to often underestimate the impact. You just need to look at events in Florida, recent tornadoes, Maui, the floods in China, fires in Canada, ice storms in Texas... all of these events weren't predicted to be as bad as they have been.
While it's important to see these warnings and heed them, everyone should consider them a starting point and automatically assume that it's going to be worse than expected. That doesn't mean scream that an apocalypse is coming, just take precautions for this being a Cat 4 when it makes landfall, because these days you really can't be sure that ANY weather event is going to follow expectation.
