I'm a huge fan of 414's - I have several, one of which is a vintage model, the EB Series ( '76-'80); it has the old CK12 Brass capsule, and sounds gorgeous.
Me, as a know nothing about sound reproduction or microphones, you have a great way of putting in to words how a particular piece of equipment sounds when in use. The AKG 414, I know exactly how that mic will sound purely by the way you explained it.
Another advantage of the C414 is that it’s so easy to find. So replacement is easy in case if it breaks, gets lost or stolen. It’s so common to find in a lot of music stores. It’s as easy as finding a Swiss Army knife in a camping goods store/department.
I have a pair of 1979 AKG 414EB’s, they have the C12 brass diaphragms, and there’s no comparison between these older 414’s, and the newer 414 XL, XL2, and ULS models that came later and that have the Mylar ringed diaphragms instead of the brass C12 diaphragm. AKG 414’s that were made before 1980 (actually the middle of 1980 was when AKG changed out the C12 diaphragms for the newer Mylar ringed models, starting with the 414 P48. Older 414’s (EB’s and before), have a nice silky top end, a beautiful smooth midrange, and are warm in the Low Mids, with a tight, well-defined bottom end. They’re great on pianos, acoustic instruments, horns, drum OH’s, and on vocals, too. The newer 414’s are “peakier” sounding in the upper mids, with a brasher top end. They’re a totally different sounding mic.
The dividing line with the 414s is whether or not it has a CK12 capsule. After they started using the nylon capsule (during the EB period) the sounds drastically changed, and not for the better. Don't know if the one in this video had the CK12. After hearing your voice on it, my guess is it didn't, though I could be wrong. With the CK12 inside, I don't think there is a better mic for acoustic guitar. Blows away most everything else. Thanks for your vids.

I saw a comment on another video that summed up how I feel about AKG414s perfectly: 'I love the old 414s as much as I hate the new ones.'
You're cool Bro! Love your videos!

I agree, can't be sure but it does sound like the darker teflon capsule.
