Of all the Upanishads (sacred Sanskrit texts), the Mandukya Karika is the shortest - consisting of just 12 sentences! - however, it is considered the most direct and the most powerful. Composed by Gaudapada Acharya 1,500 years ago, it is regarded as the highest text of nondual Vedanta. Its goal is nothing short of transcendence of sorrow and the attainment of unshakeable serenity by the direct intuition of your own nondual nature. From January 2020, Talk 6 of 6.
Swami Sarvapriyananda is the minister and spiritual leader of the Vedanta Society of New York. He joined the Ramakrishna Math and Mission in 1994, received sannyas ten years later, and served in the Hollywood Temple. He was the acharya of the monastic probationers’ training center at Belur Math, and also served as the vice principal of the Deoghar Vidyapith Higher Secondary School. He regularly gives retreats and spiritual talks throughout the United States.

Awareness is a relative term. When you say awareness, question comes , aware of what? But Brahman has absolute existence. Hence Brahman is not awareness or consciousness. The name "Brahman" is alloted for the absolute existence.

It takes an existent constant for a temporary subsequent to emerge from or to make an appearance out of. As long as it is a self vs a world instead of consciousness vs consciousness the cycle will keep rolling.

Very nice talk. I have a question about the impossibility to infer "pure consciousness" (at about 19min). I can say that if I can experience sth, I must be conscious otherwise I can't experience anything. For me that's a logic inference that makes sense.

1. In deep sleep, it is absence of experience or experience of absence or both?
2. Consciousness is peace or bliss, but bliss is attribute of sattva guna, and pure conscious is beyond guna, then how it can be bliss?

So, "it" can't be spoken of because of a lack of action? I've heard it "suggested" by the Swami that when "it" take the action of sleeping is when the universe implodes/dissolves and when "it" awakens is when the universe is reformed.
That which awakens/dissolves is the consciousness of God or Hiranyagarbha?? In the shlok it is said that "it" is not even the said prajayanadhan or the consciousness of the God?? is this correct?
I am from a science background. I have one question. I will be glad if you shed some light on my ignorance. According to Shankar, language can't explain Brahman. This is because of the inherent limitations of language. Now, we know mathematics is the language of science. Without that, we will not be able to gain a quantitative understanding of the material world through the exploration of various fields of basic science and engineering. If I understood correctly, I have to do meditation and yoga to realise the truth of Advaita Vedanta. The sutras of Mandukya Upanisad are just postulates. There is no logical proof given there. My question is this. If language can't explain Brahman, can we develop some concept or tool (apart from meditation and yoga) that can lay the foundation of studies of Brahman or pure consciousness or turiya? Can you suggest to me some easy-to-read articles? I am not a philosophy student either.

Sir, I have a query. Can anyone explain the subtleness lies behind my query? Krishna could show the death of Kauravs in causal sphere even before the war was fought. Is it Pure Brahma which could influence the causal state. We also see some dreams become reality after some days or months> How does it happen? Can it be explained keeping Mandukya Upanishad in view.
1. The personal God of religion - Krishna in this case - is the causal body and it contains past, present and future and in that body, all is visible
2. Mandukya is about how Turiya is beyond all 3 states - it is not for speculating how something happens in waking comes in dream and something that comes in dream happens in waking.
