He has tons of great underrated beats all over his discography. But he himself as a rapper is rather overrated than underrated. Dude does nothing but namedrop.
Even his mixtapes are album quality. Anyone who hasn't listened to OKE: Operation Kill Everything, you need to change that now, because that's one of my top 5 Game projects.
As someone who is from Compton, I know for a fact that a lot of the newer artist first time getting big eyes on them was when they were on mixtapes of the game. From guys to like Nipsey Hussle, Kendrick and all TDE to even someone like Tyler the Creator. They all had a backing from The Game. The Game documentary is Iconic. It pushed a new wave for West Coast hip-hop. West Coast hip-hop is always going to be the same sound because that is the West Coast but game brought that sound back to the main screen as a new artist.
I think people don’t see it as an iconic album for the west coast because of his affiliation to g unit at that time. So in some peoples eyes they saw it as another member of g unit releasing an album not necessarily as another new up and coming west coast album
Yeah this is how I first came across that name Kendrick Lamar. One of those game mixtapes had him on it. Although I listened to Jay Rock more before I got onto Kendrick
I always felt like Jay Rock sounded similar to The Game. So I think that could be argued... even though I think Jay Rock built his own hype regardless of The Game.
"What Kendrick took from him" Y'all mentioned that Game drunk rapped and altered his voice. That's exactly what Kendrick did on U. Infact y'all bringing that up, made me connect the dots tbh. Didn't think of it before.
Odd Future and TDE put the West back on at the same time in two different ways. It's crazy seeing how both sides have grown so much and how they keep expanding and putting other artists on. The Game did ignite LA on a local level, though, I can't speak about anywhere else. He did bring other rappers out.
That's why I said, "in two different ways". Odd Future sparked a whole different scene out of LA. They put attention out here, in a different way than TDE did. I didn't like Odd Future in their early days but I definitely saw the impact that they had.
ChawletMelk So many brilliant artists from the West. Game, Snoop, Ice Cube, Dre, Quik, Suga Free, Daz, Kurupt, Ice T, Too Short, Crooked I, TDE and hell yeah, Tyler. Flower Boy is amazing.
The constant name dropping puts a ceiling on any Game project. This is the best of his work because we hadn't yet realize that the name dropping is actually just the way Game raps. Every time.
Daniel Hill I'd say it's a classic, timeless songs off that project and being the best album of the year doesn't make its iconic. Illmatic, doggystyle and 36 dropped the same year and there all iconic
Daniel Hill this album was nominated for a Grammy right? This album came out when the West Coast was dry. He Resurrected the west coast, followed by the doctors advocate. And like I said globally it’s very popular.
‘The Documentary’ blew up off the back of the 50/G-unit marketing machine that was the biggest thing in pop culture at the time. On top of that the album was a who’s who of producers. The Doctors advocate solidified The Game as an artist in his own right without the aforementioned. The album is iconic. For the same reasons as ‘get rich or die tryin’ but far from his best.
He got a lot of 50's tracks that were supposed to go on The Massacre. The Game got G-Unit ans Aftermath co-signs for this first album. With a lot of help it became iconic
'Iconic'? This is a classic. Dreams is perfect and every other song is at least an 8.5/10. So much variety. Game's got one of the most consitent discogs and i'd say he's top 20.
While I don't think the influence of this album was realised instantly it's impact in my opinion is UNDENIABLE. Firstly, off of the strength of this album The Game was album to give a platform to up and coming rappers in the LA Area such as Jay Rock and Kendrick Lamar to shine like on the Black Wall Street Mixtapes, furthermore bringing them on tour allowed them a greater level of exposure and allowed them to improve on their crafts. Without this album Idon't think this would have happened and a Training Day by Kendrick Lamar and No Sleep Til NYC with Jay Rock would have gained the clout that it did. You can't also deny the strength of Game cosigns and features which gave more of a platform for Westcoast Artists to blow up it just took time, the impact of that feature on one of Nipsey's earliest mixtapes gave him more of a leg up to increase following and make better music. Years and tears later you had somewhat of a West Coast resuregence with the likes of Dom Kennedy, Nipsey Hussle, Jay Rock, Kendrick, Vince Staples, ScHoolboy Q, Blu, Tyler the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt coming out with stellar projects just to name a few. However, the buzz they were able to build directly or indirectly fed off of the Game and that would have been none existent without this album. I don't think it's obvious but without this I don't think these artists would be where they are today, they would have a level of mainstream success but the superstardom status reached by certain West Coast rappers enabling a healthy scene again would not be possible without this album. For that reason it can't be anything else but iconic.
So glad to see game being recognized. He’s so underrated it’s crazy. If you’re not called Kendrick, no one currently can fuck with game lyrically. He’s not a rapper. He’s an MC.👌🏽💯🔥
de bmo that album is a better album than doc 2. But it’s still great. Doctors advocate is his best album. I just finished listening to the whole album right now and I didn’t skip a single track and it goes so hard 💯👌🏽
The Game had the West to himself when this came out (commercially). This was the last of a dead breed, probably the last of the 90s era classics. Even tho it came out in 05
This album really brings me back, I had this album on repeat while being out with my friends and popping wheelies with bicycles in a big squad all around town. Good ol' times, haha :)
“The dream of Eric Wright that’s what I’m giving you, who walked through the white house without a business suit, Compton had Jheri curl drippin on Ronald Reagan’s suit” -the game
You guys really need to do a n iconic album review on Kurupt's "Kuruption", that would be really amazing to see and I know a lot of other people would love to see that as well.
Game so underrated because he's been in so many hesdlines and news for acts other than rapping and his talent. It made people forget how actually great he is and how good his collections of work are.
There was definitely was more of an interest in the West Coast after this album. After The Documentary major label tries to replicate the success of game by signing people like Guerilla Black, Clyde Carson, Glasses Malone and also making moves like pairing E-40 w/ a major producer like Lil' Jon. Whether or not these moves were successful is another story.
One of the main reasons why people "ignored" the other Cali acts, and Game had a long run, was because of the G-unit beef! People used to check for those tracks, over EVERYTHING! And 50 antagonized him, just right, to profit from that! Think about it.
Game did songs with literally every hip hop/rap artists that made it. Dr. Dre, Eminem, Jay Z, 50 Cent, Nas, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Ice Cube, Common, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Drake, Meek Mill, Busta Rhymes, TI, 2 Chainz, Rick Ross, Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, SchoolBoy Q, Nipsey Hussle, Swizz Beatz, Xzibit, Ludacris, Tyler the Creator, Jeezy, E-40, Beanie Sigel, Wale etc.
Westside story was technically the first single fyi lol and funny story by the time the single drops for put you on the game 50 and him already are beefing
Game is on every west coast artist before they all popped and pays tribute to the coast and more specifically LA in every single album and he still gets no respect down here . I’m from EAST LA and literally not enough people give game the respect he deserves. So yes he is underrated when your own coast doesn’t give u the props u deserve u r underrated.

Lyrically, Game doesn't do much for me. Over-reliance on name dropping. That being said, I enjoyed this album quite a bit- so many bangers! Top notch production.
I agree 100% with Myke. If the album was just Tracks 1-15, I think it would be considered a damn near perfect album. But it runs too long. Maybe just 1-15 plus Like Father Like Son lol
I'll answer Myke by saying there was indeed an emergence of west artists after game. But it took five or six years for these artists to create a buzz. Here's my list from 2010-current: Kendrick TDE (schoolboy, jay rock, ab-soul etc.) but this would prolly exclude SZA and Isiah Rashad since they technically aren't from the west. How could this have brought the west back.. from 1999 when Dre dropped the Chronic 2001, he had a run where he was on top of the mainstream (of rap) with a string of artists he brought out.. with Game being the LAST. G-UNIT were the guys at this time and were essentially Dre babies (think 50-->Em-->Dre). The South was popular after this (2005-2010). Be real: 2001 was THE album that brought the west back! That was iconic!
Can we talk about the kanye just blaze and buckwild production ending up on this thing. Takes a little out of its "west" aura. But who cares it was '05 Kanye was producing for almost everyone. I remember '06 grammys having hip hop albums nomination where all the entries being a bit or fully produced by ye.
DEHH are the only dudes I hear talk about Game. I got into music through the Fantano/RYM/mu internet music community and he has zero presence there with a lot of the newer generation of hip hop fans.
Game rocked with Kendrick, Jay Rock, Glasses Malone, and Nipsey before they became big
true dat
He put on Kendrick and told him to go by the name Kendrick instead of K Dot
I like how you put fuckin Glasses Malone on the level of those other 3 😂
Damn, nobody mention Dreams? it was the song that got me first , that fucking kanye west beat!
YG, ScHoolboy and Jay Rock have Game baby attributes
Ryan Evanson they do. Even if its not intentional...also Nipsey and Kendrick kinda have
Jay Rock? Nah, but everyone else I'd give you that ez.
Game has one of the most underrated discographies in Hip-Hop
World of HipHop of course. All his albums are great. Not one album is bad. Year of the wolf doesn’t count cause it was a compilation album.
Facts 💯
Yes he does for sure he had a few meh albums but the bangers out weigh those for sure

Compton Animator Real talk 👌🏽💯
Real talk. Documentary is classic ! ✊

Westside Story is one of the best opening tracks on a hip hop album ever idc what anyone says.
I mean, yeah. You're right.
You must ain't heard the intro to TM:101 THUG MOTIVATION ...
True
I would say Ambitionz az a ridah by 2Pac in All Eyez on me is the greatest hip hop opening tracks. I'd say Westside story is very close though
This was the best West Coast album of the decade of 2000-2010, so hell yeah it's iconic.
Lol, your taste is trash if you think that. Also, 2000-2010 is not one decade...
it isn't?
DomesticDrone lol yes it is a decade is 10 years 2000-2010 is ten years bruh
DomesticDrone but... a decade is 10 years
Deltron 3030 >>>
Kendrick n the TDE camp been rocking with Game since 06 Check out the song Tha Cypha it’s on one of them B Wall St mixtapes K Dot era
doobie sonix exactly the first time I ever heard TDE was on gang mixtape murder game chronicles
That's how I became a K Dot fan
Yea I wasn't a k-dot fan until I heard the city. Game was that dude for the West. Still is imo.
Yep
Yeah this is how I first came across that name Kendrick Lamar. One of those game mixtapes had him on it. Although I listened to Jay Rock more before I got onto Kendrick
"Dreams" is one my favorite songs all time
"Game babies." - Feefo
YG,Nipsey, Kendrick, moittzy ,skeem, philthy rich,
I always felt like Jay Rock sounded similar to The Game. So I think that could be argued... even though I think Jay Rock built his own hype regardless of The Game.
xenophontiacicidationarionism follow me home kinda felt like a early game Album to me
I always thought they were pretty similar
you could argue YG is a ‘game baby’ ..
calVILLAIN i think YG is more Dj Quik baby. Both artist got in with out dre and both from the same set
"What Kendrick took from him"
Y'all mentioned that Game drunk rapped and altered his voice. That's exactly what Kendrick did on U. Infact y'all bringing that up, made me connect the dots tbh. Didn't think of it before.
Holy shit

ChawletMelk So many brilliant artists from the West. Game, Snoop, Ice Cube, Dre, Quik, Suga Free, Daz, Kurupt, Ice T, Too Short, Crooked I, TDE and hell yeah, Tyler. Flower Boy is amazing.

Game put on kdot On his first mixtape took Nipsey Hussle on his first tour Jay Rock TDE glasses Malone skeme dubb Clyde Carson Compton Menace ect
KatieLove yeah like they said game is an iconic rapper but that doesn't mean this album is iconic
Daniel Hill I'd say it's a classic, timeless songs off that project and being the best album of the year doesn't make its iconic. Illmatic, doggystyle and 36 dropped the same year and there all iconic
Daniel Hill juts cause Kanye’s album was “iconic” it doesn’t mean no other album was iconic that year 🤦🏽♂️

He got a lot of 50's tracks that were supposed to go on The Massacre. The Game got G-Unit ans Aftermath co-signs for this first album. With a lot of help it became iconic
It was Kendrick on black boy fly he thought game was going to be the last famous guy out of Compton third verse
Kendrick IS a game baby. He was inspired. Listen to Black Boy Fly.
Mike Tareto Yup, name checked him, Jayceon
Yeah but I agree with Myke, that the impact wasn't immediate it took 6 years for Kendrick to blow up with section 80
'Iconic'? This is a classic. Dreams is perfect and every other song is at least an 8.5/10. So much variety. Game's got one of the most consitent discogs and i'd say he's top 20.
So happy for this!! Was bumping this yesterday

Yooo....reading fan comments at the end is WAY better than the "If You're Watching" thing they usually do!
False.
So glad to see game being recognized. He’s so underrated it’s crazy. If you’re not called Kendrick, no one currently can fuck with game lyrically. He’s not a rapper. He’s an MC.👌🏽💯🔥

I think that Game being involved with 50 Cent/G-Unit, who was hot at that time, is what brought huge attention to him.
RAPSTA true, but the attention stayed on him cos he was mad talented
The documentary is a classic man
The Game had the West to himself when this came out (commercially). This was the last of a dead breed, probably the last of the 90s era classics. Even tho it came out in 05

city 2007 What song is that on the album ?
George Kumria dreams
you quoted it wrong man
SkoniK how?
SkoniK unless it is Compton hair, instead of Compton had??🤔
Love the channel! Review the game doctors advocate
I bought this album in my teenage years (about 14, 15) and I love it until this day 🔥
You guys really need to do a n iconic album review on Kurupt's "Kuruption", that would be really amazing to see and I know a lot of other people would love to see that as well.
Game so underrated because he's been in so many hesdlines and news for acts other than rapping and his talent. It made people forget how actually great he is and how good his collections of work are.

One of my favorite albums! The Game is great man
You guys really need to do an iconic album review on Kurupt's first album "Kuruption".
Today 15 years classic album
"This Is How We Do" is classic
I see where y'all are coming from, but it's still a classic the way I look at it. Shout out to DEHH.
One of the main reasons why people "ignored" the other Cali acts, and Game had a long run, was because of the G-unit beef! People used to check for those tracks, over EVERYTHING! And 50 antagonized him, just right, to profit from that! Think about it.
I listen to the documentary about every other week
The game made west coast artist step their pen game up,he set the bar higher for being a lyricist
Game West Coast 🐐
Game did songs with literally every hip hop/rap artists that made it. Dr. Dre, Eminem, Jay Z, 50 Cent, Nas, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Ice Cube, Common, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Drake, Meek Mill, Busta Rhymes, TI, 2 Chainz, Rick Ross, Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, SchoolBoy Q, Nipsey Hussle, Swizz Beatz, Xzibit, Ludacris, Tyler the Creator, Jeezy, E-40, Beanie Sigel, Wale etc.
He has never done a song with Jay-Z lol they have beef
The Documentary is a classic without question. Game’s best album no doubt. He’s an underrated legend
The Documentary and 1992 are my favorite Game albums
Classic Album along with Doctors Advocate
Great review
I love The Documentary, I would have probably said it is Iconic. But Get Rich or Die Tryin' is for sure an iconic album.
Kendrick - Black Boy Fly
He makes a verse talking about Jayceon Taylor.
Start from scratch with the crying voice is better than I remember from back then
Oh and Nipsey Hussle game was on his first single they roll
I think you could argue that Jay Rock, YG and Nipsey Hussle are Game babies
How could you guys not be feeling Don't Worry ?! With that Scott Storch beat !
They did pay attention to the west cause of game. I listened to kdot jay Rock nippsey and Tyler cause of game
Westside story was technically the first single fyi lol and funny story by the time the single drops for put you on the game 50 and him already are beefing
I’m with Myke. Tracks 1-15 are damn near perfect and should’ve ended it after Where I’m From. Maybe put Like Father Like Son as the last track lol
this is a classic album
The only west coast album I liked other than the documentary in 2000s was xzibits “restless lp” which was a dope album
On July 26 can yall do Jeezy Thug Motivation album
I agree, Game really is underrated
doctor's advocate was his masterpiece ---------------
Isometric Aquariums Games 2nd classic and best album
Isometric Aquariums 100 agree. Doctors advocate is his best album. Real talk 👌🏽💯

there was at the time.. snoop, westside connection, e40, nippsey hustle came out with fire that year.. just nothing was touching that album because it haf 50 and dre stamp of approval ...
The Hyphy movement from the bay area made the west buzz too though.
reason game didn't put the west as a whole back on the map is cuz he didn't come out with his own crew or have features from less known west coast rappers.. he did have kendrick, jay rock and all them on those skee mixtapes but those tapes weren't really pushed like that
Why Kinge yelling???????
In Rob’s Opinion deaf - comes with old age
YG, Blu, kendrick, jay rock
Do yall review unsigned Artist
Lyrically, Game doesn't do much for me. Over-reliance on name dropping. That being said, I enjoyed this album quite a bit- so many bangers! Top notch production.
Game is severely underrated
I agree 100% with Myke. If the album was just Tracks 1-15, I think it would be considered a damn near perfect album. But it runs too long. Maybe just 1-15 plus Like Father Like Son lol
I'll answer Myke by saying there was indeed an emergence of west artists after game. But it took five or six years for these artists to create a buzz. Here's my list from 2010-current:
Kendrick
TDE (schoolboy, jay rock, ab-soul etc.) but this would prolly exclude SZA and Isiah Rashad since they technically aren't from the west.
Nipsey Hussle
YG
DJ Mustard
Odd Future (Tyler and Frank still prominent)
Vince Staples
G-eazy
Macklemore (Seattle, but still west)
Amine
Problem
IamSu
Ty Dolla Sign
I think there's a few I'm missing that made waves. Couple of these dudes are whack too like Ty Dolla but the west has brought a new movement within the last 7 or 8 years.
The Documentary was fire it had:
Westside Story
Hate It Or Love It
How We Do
Put You On The Game
The Documentary
Special, how we do 🔥
This is a classic album.
this is barbershop talk...dope!
Yes Kendrick took some inspiration from Game. Listen to "Black Boy Fly" on Good Kid, MAAD City
YG brought the west back in the 2010's.
Like father like son 🔥🔥
Super dope artist
I feel like you guys have had this argument before about the game and his influence and who got inspired after.
Lui_Vee They definitely did, it's really Myke vs everybody.
Game definitely had an influence, the artists just didn't blow till later.
Great Album
How could this have brought the west back.. from 1999 when Dre dropped the Chronic 2001, he had a run where he was on top of the mainstream (of rap) with a string of artists he brought out.. with Game being the LAST. G-UNIT were the guys at this time and were essentially Dre babies (think 50-->Em-->Dre). The South was popular after this (2005-2010).
Be real: 2001 was THE album that brought the west back! That was iconic!
Even though it was big I feel like people forget Snoop and Ice cube were still doing shit back then and even had videos on mtv.
Can you please do the doctor's advocate
I saw this pop up on my RUclips
do a hunger for more review
The game is really underrated please review the doctors advocate
DEHH are the only dudes I hear talk about Game. I got into music through the Fantano/RYM/mu internet music community and he has zero presence there with a lot of the newer generation of hip hop fans.
Doesnt Kendrick say he wanted to be the game in one of his songs
Maybe i should hear this record
Nipsey.
To me, personally, Don’t Worry is one of the best beats ever
It’s a pretty basic beat tho lol. Hate it or Love It and Dreams are my personal favorite beats on here
Yall say the west wasnt poppin but in the bay i guess we were in a bubble by ourselves during the hyphy movement slappin dre, 40, keak etc
Game inspired the entire west. He's the one who made bloods popular
Elijah Salahuaddin Another good point. Bunch of rappers started claiming Blood after 05.
