3:02 ....Als Technikbegeisterter kriegt man da unweigerlich ne Gänsehaut. Man hört jedes Kilowatt, was da durch die Zylinder, Blasrohre etc. ballert. Geil
Insbesondere so riesige russische "Drecksschleudern" :D
What's better than seeing a steam locomotive climbing a beautiful mountain pass? Two of them racing up the pass!!! Thanks for sharing, and greetings from Canada!!!
Railway fun to the max. Credit to the Deutsche Bundesbahn to make an event like this possible.Brilliant footage. Very nice traject. Love the smell of the steam , oil and burning coal.
Wahnsinn!!!!
How can you have 14 people who have not liked this video? RUclips really shows how different we human beings are! Beautiful video, I would love to be there sometime ... cheers from Spain!
Einfach fantastisch, solch eine wunderschöne nostalgische Dampflokfahrt ! Sehr schönes Video, alle Daumen hoch -:) Herzlichen Dank und schöne Grüße.....Richard
Never would see anything like this in the U. S. in this day and age. First, open window coaches on a mainline excursion in 2014 - the FRA, as well as the host railroad's safety people would have a fit (see you can trust the fans to behave). Second, tying up a double-track mainline for most of a day for an excursion like this would probably have screwed up the host railroad's freight traffic for a day or two afterwards. I have to say that this was great. I thought I'd watch a couple of minutes of it and move on, but I stayed for the whole thing. This even beats the side-by-side excursion of NKP 765 and PM 1225 during the 1991 Huntington, WV NRHS Convention (and that excursion was only 40 miles, and delayed CSX freight trains all the way back to Chicago for two or three days afterwards!). The fact that something like this happens regularly in Germany in the 21st Century is truly remarkable. For those over there who can read this in English - enjoy it while it lasts!
No, these are so called "Angstloks", wich means something like "safety loco". When the steam engine fails, the track can be cleared with the help of the diesel.
I don't think that I will ever be tired of seeing steam engines (or diesel or electric) . But steam is the most impressive of them all. I guess I just love anything that runs on rails.
Thanks so very much! Really enjoyed this :) Especially getting to see the flash of the fireboxes opening, the handshakes and high-fives across the cars/tracks, pretty much everything. Looks like a lot of fun. I've ridden the Durango & Silverton train in Colorado, U.S.A., and several other local steam trains. There's nothing like that smell of smoke, and getting cinders in one's hair :) If you don't get a bit of coal dust on you, you weren't doing it right (got to open the window and take it all in).
LOL GREAT FUN!! I never saw something like this before, it really makes me happy to see it, thanks so much for bringing it to youtube! I could watch this for hours!
SUPER! Sehr gut gefilmt!
Greetings from the U.S.A!! This is un-freaking believable!!! That must have been incredible!!! The high fives between trains tells the whole story. It's great to bring the world together through a packed train of "crazy" rail fans. Thanks for sharing!! Please, what locomotives were involved?
There was the 01 150 and 64 419 at our train and the 52 7596 at the train you can mostly see in the video. There was a fourth locomotive, but which turned out at noon unfortunately because of damage (58 311).
Very cool. Thanks!! I love the "stack talk" from your locomotive, I guess the 01 150, almost sounds like our Pacific class loco's. This video is wild, must have been a blast. These guys definitely know how to put on a show! Great camera work BTW!!
It reminded me of when a dog rides in a car - head out the window and deleriously happy.. Haha. I do wonder if I am one of the last people on earth to witness things with my eyes rather than through some crummy LCD screen, though. Put down the crappy cellphone cameras and enjoy life, people.. Trainfart seems to have a decent camera - experience the trains in the real life, then watch his videos when you get nostalgic or something instead.. :)
This one is so far the best train movie I have listened at Utube. Such a great adventure, happy people greating, speed contest, Windows to window, train to train, wagon to wagon, loco to loco. Never sow something alike. I am delighted. It was indeed a great time. Congrats for posting this gem. And a question: Is there a continuation for this?
Greetings from Australia! An epic video, thanks for sharing your wonderful experience. I hope none of the residents along the track had their washing out that day! Although I did not personally see it, a similar 'race' was held when Flying Scotsman visited Melbourne in 1989. Trains ran parallel between Melbourne & Geelong, providing may excellent photo opportunities.
In the 1950's I lived in East Germany. The railroad ran past our backyard. I can't explain it, but the sound of a steam engine passing in the night was very reassuring for us children. It leaves bittersweet memories.
I wonder. What if at some point, a few countries send a representative steam locomotive to a place with straight, level track (Australia perhaps), and did a similar thing?
Then the greatest event in railway history would be happening :P but honestly, I would love to see that happening. A race of the nations, with the strongest and fastest of their mids race against each other
Wonderful! Brilliant stuff; and EVERYONE had a great day. Gotta say to 'goggles-guy' .. kudos, my man! :) But what on Earth were they burning here? SO MUCH SMOKE! A good job Queen Victoria never travelled on this train - she would NOT have been amused. lol
very cool,i wish i was on that train, like the way so many people had eye protection, they must of needed it. It should be done with Bittern and Tornado on the british ECML at 90mph. would be awsum!
3:02 ....Als Technikbegeisterter kriegt man da unweigerlich ne Gänsehaut. Man hört jedes Kilowatt, was da durch die Zylinder, Blasrohre etc. ballert. Geil
Ja, der reinste Wahnsinn! :)

Beste Ever!

Yes, I wonder when the video camera people will be able to produce one that can capture the smell of the smoke! Great show!
Wahnsinn!!!!

This should be a sport :D Steam Locomotive Racing!
What about get rid of formula one racing and have high speed train racing instead.
+Tom Jacobs Better than a F1-Race! ............

Absolute Sahne!
Unglaublich!!!!!!!

all the steam ive seen on the track around here is escorted by a diesel and is being pushed by it
Jimmy: As far as I know most of the time the diesel is there to provide dynamic braking for the train to save the wheels and brakeshoes.
No, these are so called "Angstloks", wich means something like "safety loco". When the steam engine fails, the track can be cleared with the help of the diesel.
12*: It would sound better if you said "IF" the steam engine fails.
I don't think that I will ever be tired of seeing steam engines (or diesel or electric) . But steam is the most impressive of them all. I guess I just love anything that runs on rails.

Great video of a well known steamlocos event in the Schwartzwald. The tunnels full of steam are impressive. Thumbs up!
and fire! :)
Beautiful,fantastic,wonderful!With compliments!
Awesome video.. Relived the old magic days of Steam...
Ein sehr schönes Video vielen Dank!
*WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PLACE!* _AND NICE TRAINS TOO!_
"What's your favorite music?"
"Oh, the shrill, lonesome whistle of a steam engine, and the steady drumbeat as it thunders along the tracks."
That's my favourite song too
Zauberhaft Urlaub ...! Thanks!
This was amazing! Seriously, i thought id stay only for a little but ended up on the whole thing!
Toll. Ganz toll. Vielen Dank fürs Hochladen!
Faszinierend! Bin total begeistert! Danke!
Thank you. A magnificent chase. A real treat for the cameramen. A great time.
Bravo.
Philippe
Damn, that was fun, and I wasn't even there. Steam is the BEST. I'm so glad that I actuals saw them in their last moments.
jawohl! Es dampft sehr schön!

Was ist das für ein cooles Video 😎
Pure Kraftentfaltung 👍👍👏
Sinto muita saudade daquele tempo!
Danke für´s Zeigen :-)
Just absolutely amazing, well done
Just brilliant, smoke and steam, I doubt if we could have two steamers running together like that, health and safety reasons for sure.over here
What a nice planning and directing! Coal smoke and water vapor smell and exhaust sound. . .👏👏👏
What a fantastic video

+Rick Horwitz the stack noise is pure music, even more extraordinary are the locomotives, being 2-10-0s !
