This was a dream tournament for Virginia. The last of her 3 slam titles which was played in front of the queen and on the 100th anniversary of the tournament. Very few people get a moment like that in their lifetimes.
I saw part of this match and the men's semifinals. The women's match seemed incredibly slow. Nette Stive looked dreamt upset at the end. The match (S.F.) between Gerulitis and Borg was the best match I've ever seen in my life.
While taking no respect away from the past greats, I strongly encourage you to watch a modern player like Ons Jabeur to explore that topic of variety/guile in women's tennis.
@@cenarena there were a lot of beautiful flat shots in particular from Betty Stove a very difficult to play backhand, hardly no one knows how to do this nowadays.
One of the most unforseen finals in years. Stove had beaten Martina Navratilova and then Sue Barker, and Wade had her shock victory over Evert. The 1975 champion, Billie Jean King, had lost to Evert and 1976 finalist Evonne Goolagong didn't play.
Excellent shot making, Mostly attacking and amazing passing shots, Has that mellow effortless nature when viewer preferred shot corresponds with the player, Great match, I wonder what do they mean by modern era tennis which puts MC 24GS looks easier, To me they earned them its up to the one with the nerve to fight and beat the MC title tally,
So sporting of Bette at the end posing with Virginia almost as happy for Virginia than Virginia was. These women forged the tour , traveled, practiced with each other and celebrated each others victories and consoled each other over defeats. Bette pushing virginias reluctance in holding the Venus trophy even higher. It was Bette only chance and she deserved it beating Martina in QF when Martina could’ve won the whole thing. Then she had to topple barker in Sf with a pro British crowd celebrating centennial year . She won the first set and had to think she was close. Wade found her rhythm in middle of second set. So the match was winnable , she came close but Virginia played her best tennis in 1977. She trained hard, got a new do, was of the age when most tennis players can play their best , early 30 ‘s because of their vast experience, she had to work at staying in shape as the body becomes unpredictable day to day when it comes to playing your absolute best every day. Chris was 31 when she toppled Martina in two French opens after winning just once that January after 13 straight losses. No one thought after the 83 open final Chris would ever win a set again against Martina let alone beat her in back to back French open finals. Chris played Martina 19 times from 85-88 and Chris won 7 matches to Martina’s 11. They made each other better and forgave the other for being in the way of what they wanted - being number one.
Again, what has this match to do with Chris? Oh yes thats right the over 30 age thing.....and no not everyone thought Chris Evert would never beat MN again, maybe only you PS One thing you did get right Ginny Wade got a new doo
The beautiful Virginia Wade, and the underrated and wonderful Betty Stove, played an electrifying match, and so quiet and gracious and good sports about the whole thing. Virginia is still beautiful. I miss the focus on playing, I regret the cult of personality that has ensued. I despise the grunting and sound effects. The modern desire for tennis stardom has all these little nobodies who barely win consistently in this hit-or-miss all-power, uninteresting, UNPROFESSIONAL, cheating (Swiatek, so I don't ever watch her) bleeding into the public game so it's almost irritating to go to public courts. Once a peaceful place, now a screaming match. And, dear women and your sport's promoters, who gives a tinker's dam about the virtually non-existent raducanu. Results not personality. Get back to the professional game and behave as professionals. Then maybe you will get your viewership back. So far, one imitator after another is drawing down the sport. Don't believe for a minute you all have to have these exaggerated grips and play like serena and scream like serena.

Great match..I’m a huge fan of Betty Stove in her day 😊
So am I !
The variety of shots was much richer back in the day.

What?! Everything was a slice, a lob or a volley 😂

@@anthonymartin777yeah I'm not disputing that, but you said there was variety there that you don't see today and that's not true.

@@martinpascoe7678your so sad.

アグレッシブな両者に拍手👏✨✨😊👍 🎾😃☀️
Always felt a bit sad for Virginia Wade that she didnt beat an Evert-King-Goolagong-Court etc in the final, her Semi over Evert really was everything
Did betty stove herself produce this highlight reel. I thought she would have won this match 6.0 6.0 😅
Watch it if you have problems with sleeping )
Have a wonderful day!
That is exactly why I’m watching
I was sorta hoping the Queen might have volunteered to warm up with Wade before the match. I mean, she's certainly used to COURT life. hahahahahahaha
the Queen is on record as hating Tennis
Queen Elizabeth ONLY Visited Wimbledon Four Time…I Believe this was her..3rd Visit.
12:30 WTF? 😂

Betty Stove était dans les trois finales à Wimbledon 1977....simple dames, double demes et double mixte mais manque de bol elle a tout perdu !
These generation played with wooden rackets a better volley than Medvedev, Zverev and Co today😂
Virginia was a hot chick!
