The US Open is the final Grand Slam of the year and takes place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The 2022 US Open saw Spain's Carlos Alcaraz and Poland's Iga Swiatek claim the men's and women's singles titles. It was both players' first US Open title, with Alcaraz claiming his first Grand Slam title and Swiatek claiming her third Grand Slam title. chris evert was a magnificent player. When she was 6-0, 5- 0 behind, you could never tell if she was going to lose the match. She could always come back and win and she did so many times. Great memories. Chrissie was great!
Still brings me to tears.
My all time favourite, Chrissie Evert… a joy to watch in every single way, her solid determined play, her demeanour on and off court…I’ve been a fan since 1974 and I was so, so lucky to see Chris play on my first ever visit to Wimbledon on number 2 court… that memory will stay with me for ever! ❤

Je me souviens aussi très bien de cette nuit la, ou je regardais le match en donnant le biberon a mon bébé!!!! Chris Evert etait mon idole , c 'est elle qui m a fait aimé le tennis .. elle avait tout , le talent, l humilité, la grace ... Quelle classe cette femme ... toujours élégante sur un court de tennis ou dans la vie. Je l admire toujours et la soutient dans les moments difficiles qu'elle traverse.

@@martinemarchand6415 c'est elle aussi qui m'a fait découvrir et aimer le tennis. C était Roland Garros 1981, un 1/4 face à Ruzici, gagné. Je ne comprenais pas grand chose aux points à cette époque mais entendre Jean Paul Loth énumérer le palmarès de la championne m'a fait aimer la joueuse et la femme. A l'époque il n y avait pas internet donc je ne connaissais rien à ses victoires et peu de places dans la rubrique sport à l époque. D ailleurs elle avait perdu cette année là en 1/2 face à Mandlikova. Je me souviens du tout petit espace qui lui était consacré le mois suivant pour sa 3e victoire à Wimbledon.
Cette femme m aura inspiré même si je suis un homme.
@@MultiErick92 moi c est en 1979 que je l ai découverte par hasard devant ma télé a RG, je me suis alors a m intéresser au tennis. J ai eu la chance de la voir souvent jouer a Roland Garros et d assister à ses deux dernières victoires en 85 et 86..merveilleux souvenirs. C était une autre époque le tennis a tellement évoluer,mais j ai un peu la nostalgie de ces années la ,ou les joueurs étaient disponible pour échanger quelques mots avec les fans. Chrissie était très sympa je me souviens lui avoir adresse quelques mots un jour

SOOOOO different from today's tennis, when every freaking player has to wave and blow kisses to the crowd, even when they win 1 and 1 in the first round. No such grandstanding back then.
I was a great Evert fan and was very disappointed she lost but Zina played superb tennis and totally deserved this victory ❤
When I was young, Chris Evert and Jimmy Connors and Billie Jean King were TENNIS. Chris was the classiest player of all the champions.

Chris , very emotional at the start of the last game knew this game was the last one. Tennis is an mental game and being down 5-2 feels like a huge mountain to climb when it is really a ten minute gap.she had come back countless times from 5-2 down in her career but the effort for Chris to play one of her top 3 career matches in the round before against Seles tapped out her competitive fires and I was so happy for her to have the choice to walk away when it became hard to want to compete. Chris didn’t win the fast easy way with powerful serve or volley, she needed to grind out long points and be consistent- relying on her mental game to win. An absolute class act. A true daughter of a Notre Dame Alumni . She’s been a idol of mine my whole life. I couldn’t have picked a better example.

An incredible career. On the day she retired, she was still ranked # 4 in the world, and having entered 56 majors over a 19 year span, she reached her 54th quarterfinal. That's over 96% of those majors she entered. Nobody will ever anything like that statistic. Not Court, not Navratilova, not Graf, not Serena. She changed the look of the sport and changed the way we see women who choose to be athletes. .

Martina Navratilova changed the women's game forever not Chris Evert and no player could or will beat Martina's incredible records!!!. 167 MAJOR SINGLES TITLES AND 177 MAJOR DOUBLES TITLES AND A WORLD RECORD 9 SINGLES TITLES at Wimbledon!!!. I'll give you one thing though, their rivalry was the biggest in Sport never mind tennis!!!. They brought women's tennis to the masses with some incredible matches and both will go down in tennis history but Martina is the GOAT without question!!!.

They both have records that will never be broken, They both changed the women's game, but they did it differently. One dominated the grass slams of her era, the other the clay slams of her era. One acrued the longevity records, the other the consistency records. A lot depends on what you prioritize, what you look for in a champion. Is consistency in performance more or less important than peak play? and how much importance do you put on those slams as opposed to the other tour events or national/ team play. And what do you do with doubles and mixed? If you talk about them together, the GOAT debate is between Court and Navratilova, and nobody else need apply. If we are talking singles slam only, Martina's got some problems and Evert, Serena and Graf soar upwards.

Just listen to ANY videos of Chris and other players Chris herself said many times that the 2 women who changed women's tennis were Billie Jean King said Martina!!!. Just because Chris won 7 French Opens doesn't mean she changed women's tennis!!!. To find the GOAT you need to look their whole careers, every player and Martina's achievements are head and shoulders above every other female player and even most male players, that's a FACT!!!. Plus what Martina went through from the moment she arrived in the States, no other female would have survived that or would have won as much as Martina did and for so long that's why Martina is the GOAT!!!.

@@BTURNER1961 The 54 quarters are impressive, but what is more impressive is that she only lost two of those quarters and reached the semis or better 52 times. Can you imagine any modern player, male or female, reaching the semis or better 52 of 56 attempts? You can carve that record in stone....it's done. And as far as the ranking... she retired at number 4 and was never ranked lower than 4 for her entire career, which is astounding. That's another record which is over. Zero chance of that ever being broken.
Sad day for those of us who adored this great champion, watching her compete at such a high level for so long, was a testament to her mental toughness 👍
Chris Evert is one of the all time greats. Shes one of my favourite players . You'd think Martina beat her a lot . She did as Navratilova was physically stronger but Chrssie had her fair share of wins against her including at french opens. They both won 18 grand Slams. Court, Graf and Serena won more
The five of them were the most successful in woman's tennis and legends and icons.
