    How about creating another competition were dogs can jump from as high as they want / they feel to without touching the yellowish/whitish pause tables. I got so enerved by those faults. All dogs are doing great and people as always are looking the attention back to them. There should be simpler rules and enjoy more what dogs can do. I would love to see a circular circuit where dogs didn't have to follow orders all the time, they might do it without any orders, and as this would be shorter, make 2 or 3 laps.

    Border collies are insanely fast and tend to be the only large dog winners at Crufts, but I do hope that the amount of dog walk faults this year can steer people away from entering BCs because they're seem to always be a little too fast and a little too eager. There are lots of other athletic dog breeds that could smoke this course.

    • @goodshipkaraboudjan
      @goodshipkaraboudjan Год назад +3

      The results speak for themselves. BCs, kelpies and heelers dominate agility in Australia. Great dogs of other breeds try but just can't compete unless the course gets too risky for injury.

  • @OreadNYC

    I would think that Italian greyhounds and whippets -- or for that matter, any smallish or medium-sized dog bred for coursing -- would excel at this since they're built for speed.

    • @rainbowcats8528
      @rainbowcats8528 Год назад +4

      It's not just about speed, it's also about obedience and precision, which is where border collies do better than sighthounds. Some people will mix border collie and whippet to try and get the best of both worlds, they're highly competitive dogs

    • @SilverFlame819
      @SilverFlame819 2 года назад +8

      Huskies in agility? LOL!! Have you ever owned a Husky? (Not being mean, but Huskies are not very obedient or driven to do anything but pull and yodel.) You see them very occasionally in agility, but it's a pretty rare sight. Training a Husky for agility is kind of masochistic, and a lesson in frustration. Better to use a breed that WANTS to do this kind of stuff, so you're not frustrating the dog or yourself.

      Apparently, there was a preliminary run (qualifier?) which some dogs failed but they're allowing them to compete in the final, maybe because of the lack of competitors, but they can't win.

    • @BoojumFed
      @BoojumFed 2 года назад +2

      @@andtrrrot Yeah, they mentioned that kennel rules limit the number of finalists to no more than half the entrants; so only the top 5 out of the 11 entrants were actually finalists. Most years this is in place to keep finals from having 20 dogs or more per size, but this year fewer participants were willing/ able to brave Covid in the crowds so they just let all the pups play.

      @@jemimaandpebble4449 There are dogs running from every country in the Invitationals. Every organization has tiny different rule discrepancies, but agility is pretty much the same in every country. (Seeing dogs hit the contact on the see-saw and jump before it touches the ground though, like you see in a few of these runs, would not fly in the US, but that's pretty much the only different thing I can see.)

      @@SilverFlame819 it Depends on the judge I think. I’ve been eliminated as pebble went wrong in the weaves so I called her back and she did them backwards but I’ve seen other people do the same thing and not get faulted. The main difference is Americans use a pause table and I think they can have different amounts of equipment and stuff ( I think England is one set of weaves but you can have 2 in America I think ) and I’m not sure if American has banned the collapsible tunnel. American agility is also scored differently as I’ve seeen people win classes with slowish rounds and several faults which wouldn’t happen in England. The hights are different and there are a load of differences

    • @SilverFlame819
      @SilverFlame819 2 года назад +1

      @@jemimaandpebble4449 WHHHHHAT. That's clearly an off-course. I wish all judges would just stick to the rules, so everyone was on the same page! Only certain organizations have pause tables, and there's been some talk of getting rid of them completely. There are standard classes, that have the same number of things, and then "fun" classes that are set up differently, just to be entertaining and different for the teams and spectators. We have not had the chute in a long time, too many dogs were getting hurt, and it was pulled from all organizations. So yeah, the jump heights might be slightly different, but the way you run a course is still the same.

    As a lazy BC owner I will never understand why handlers don't stand in the middle and just give verbal instructions over each obstacle. That's literally what I do in the arena with showjumps and makeshift DIY agility. Eating crisps and yelling out *That way! See saw thingy! Tunnel! This way. No THIS WAY! Big jump - small jump. Big finish and jump into the wheelbarrow. Yeeee we just won!*

      There's a chick who runs in my state whose dogs literally know "left" and "right", and that's what she does. The dogs are WAY too fast, she can't keep up, so rather than try, she just yells directions. It works pretty well, she wins a lot, but clearly it's not the best way to make it to the top, or she'd be at these events. :) Lots of the obstacles are tricky, with two starting next to each other, or having to back-jump, etc. But I like the way you think. LOL!
