Tom, your videos continue to be class-leading in so many ways!! Always look forward to your new content! Keep up the amazing work and production quality! Thanks for bringing an in-depth look at both of these upcoming Rivians!
The R2 is absolutely beautiful. It looks like it strikes the right balance between performance, range, and capability with a real emphasis on outdoor recreation. As much as I love my Mustang Mach-E, I’m always bumping up against its limits as a real crossover/SUV not to mention, by 2026+ charging speeds should be appreciably improved which should make the R2 a very nice option as a replacement vehicle.
I think R1T and R1S are going to drop in price on the used market enough to be at a comparable price, once we're at the 2-3 year mark and peoples' leases end. Current lease deals are pretty great, I'm sure many will opt to jump into a refreshed model instead of paying the $60k+ and doubling their payments to keep the lease
I get the feeling not having the R3/R3X before the R2 is missed opportunity. I think demand for R3 will be higher, especially if they can get below $40K.
@@td4940 it's to small that segment in the U.S. does NOT sell well at ALL nm introducing its an ev into the mix. Overseas though yes the r3 if rivian survives? @@4literv6 I hear what you are saying, but there is something about the R3X makes me want it regardless of size and price. I’m someone who owns and prefer SUV size cars over years. I think the R3 platform will be a hit over the R2. I also think the R2 and R3 may give Tesla something to think about.
Thanks for all of your videos, Tom. Do you know if Rivian has improved the performance of camp mode? Three different RUclips reviewers of the R1S report that camp mode malfunctions halfway through the night and they are left with no heat or AC. Two of the three reviews dropped within just the last month. Camp mode is one of the most compelling features of the Rivian but it looks like they haven't gotten it to work reliably just yet. Would love any more info on this if you have it or can get it from Rivian. Thanks again!
Nice looking car and good review. This is the size they should have come out first in both sizer AND price! Size is a matter of taste, but IMO this is better.
I hope the statement that the R3X is available with single and dual motors (and not just tri motor) is accurate! I thought it would just be the tri motor. A RWD version would be amazing.
Don't mind a small car however, if backseat leg room can barely fit my skinny legs (I'm 5'9 ish) then I have a problem. The trunk space got to have a decent amount of space without needing to folding down the seats.
I’m hoping that Rivian people are reading these comments. But a question for them if you ever do see them again is around integration. I would like for them to come up with a solution that would allow three fishing rods to find a nice sweet spot inside the cabin. Maybe up on top but preferably somehow compartment inside the cabin.
I remember one of the first times I watched one of Tom's reviews, I thought, "Hey...that looks a lot like a Lakemont or other Seattle neighborhood." So I keep coming back to see both the cars and where they are being driven (see what I did there?).
This is good to see. I would love a Rivian but not willing to go into that kind of debit. The sad thing we all know is the R2 will NOT sell for under $50 grand by the time it comes to market. I'd love to be wrong, but it's still two-years away. Not one company has launched a new car at the price they first publish. It's a pipe dream, as sad as it is.

The R2 is pretty good, and it'll do for me, but I'd buy a R3 in a heartbeat. I really wish that one was coming out first. I've been keeping my ICE car chugging along, but it's not likely to last until 2027 at the earliest.
I really hope this company is able to navigate the bumpy road ahead as consumers - in general - seem to be turning their backs on EV's atm. The sooner we can get off the oil addiction, the better.
Good luck with that. Our current president just put a 100% tariff on the average American buying a affordable ev and the potential back to the future president would do more of the same.
Because they would lose so much money... They just didn't have cost under control. If they're around for r2 selling in 2026.. It'll sell for much more.
Rivian interiors are so much better than Tesla interiors. Love our Model S but this is the last Tesla we will own and look forward to buying an R1S next year.
My question for these newer EV companies is why not start with the more affordable line up instead of 80k+? Are they just copying Tesla? My Rivian and Lucid stocks need some answers!
There's more money to be made per dollar spent the more expensive a vehicle is, particularly when a company is relatively new and still figuring our their manufacturing processes. Rivian already loses thousands for every vehicle they currently sell, so to be able to get as close to recouping those costs as possible is their main prerogative. Now that they've been at it for a bit and know more about how they do what they do, they can focus on expanding to new markets like affordable EVs. Just like the earliest cars, computers, and smartphones, it has to be expensive to prove it can work before it can be cheap.
I'm no EV company exec or engineer, but I would imagine development and tooling costs mean they must start with the more expensive, higher margin product. When the production lines are established, and economies of scale are in play, they can at least save costs by reusing components or by tweaking the lines to produce what they need. At least that's how I make sense of that.
I would say however that if we got rid of all the fancy electronics and features and made a stripped down , basic model that someone could afford , it could be developed cheaper and sell and make small amounts of money and then invest that into the higher end products … I don’t need tents , I don’t need flashlights … basic screen and CarPlay … they won’t get money I don’t have to spend .. but I would give them my basic entry level money … now however , it might go to some one else (not that they really care about my money

Man, Tesla went from a leader to (by far) a laggard in the EV space. Who is buying a Tesla in 2024 when there are so many newer and fresher options out there?!
What is wrong with Tesla? They make good-looking cars, not boxy SUVs (X and Y are technically trucks I suppose). Tesla cars still look fresh and S3XY, no need to change the looks. Tesla constantly updates its cars under the skin: motors, batteries, control system, telematics, etc. They meet modern safety regulations. I wished Model 3 was a hatchback, but Model Y is a good enough substitute. Two of my friends just bought a Model Y, one of them already had Model 3 in the family. Tesla's Supercharger network is the best, this is a big factor in considering an EV.
The company lost $38,000 per vehicle sold in 1Q24, lost $6.8 billion last year, and has few service centers (you will be lucky to have one in your state). Honestly, who would buy a car from a company that may not be in business in a couple of years. Only EV cultists looking for a poor transportation solution would be this car, which will never be much of a thing. A person would be better off buying a Toyota hybrid system that has been the thing for 20 years.
I really like the R3. That C/D pillar is straight off of a VW Golf - and that's a good thing.

More Lancia, but yes it’s a good thing.
The commitment to bring smaller cars into the world alone has me intrigued. I respect that a lot. R3 looks absolutely sick
