@@ScienceMathematics101 Does that still make sense with social media? Nowadays even poor people have a digital footprint within cyberspace. Being on the internet is as inevitable as death.
Given their notoriously aggressive personal info clawing reputation, I've been surprised that it's still so huge. Then, I learned that a surprisingly large number of people, especially within its user demographics, have absolutely no idea about such reputation.
As someone who quit TikTok after being severely addicted I really hope people who are addicted start to realize what TikTok is doing to them. I’m here for the ban and I really really wish I could turn off RUclips shorts 😭😭
If you want a recommendation, curate your shorts to be about things that are more educational. There's a lot of cool shorts that help you learn about how life is all over the world, within different disciplines/skillsets, different languages, etc. It'll take some time but as an old school tiktok/shorts hater it works for me on YT shorts. Just like everything you want to see more of, unlike and block the mindless stuff to your preference. Apologies in advance for giving advice when not asked, hope this helps!
I'll admit, sometimes I'll skip a TikTok if it's going too slow. But most of the time the voice is slow and monotonous. I realized during high school that I learn better with a video at a faster speed and slow talking makes it harder for me to pay attention. Also, I've gotten so many copy paste versions of videos that I skip them as soon as I realize it's the same thing I saw 5 videos before. Right now the ones that are pissing me off are the "it seems 16 was yesterday, now I'm closer to 28" sound and people who are barely older than 16 are doing the trend. I'm 22, and I consider myself too young to do that trend without seeming like I'm just jumping into a trend. I'll admit, I look different than I did at 16 (new glasses, less acne, longer hair that I'm embracing as wavy/curly), but the ones I've been seeing look the same except with longer hair and maybe a couple piercings. (one I saw recently was 16 to 20, when I was 20 by that point I was barely out of high school for 2 years (late birthday, turned 18 in the beginning of senior year)).
I remember when tiktok used to be heavily advertised on RUclips, when they realised they were giving a spotlight to a webpage that could drain their user base it was too late. That's the most idiotic thing RUclips did in the last few decades.
I’m a teenager that doesn’t use tik tok, but all of my class does. So I think it would be funny to see the app get banned in my country and watch the world blow up around me.
Me too! My whole class is using tik tok, they say unfunny things out loud and literally bring their boomboxes to school. It would be funny if they a actually banned it, because in my country people would be furious
So does gaming and social media in general. You only have to read comments, to see how many younger people struggle with basic comprehension, and can't use punctuation to post a coherent sentence.
I'm not an American. but I would definitely support TikTok being banned where I live (Sweden). I don't use it, but I know many people that do use it.. I think they use it a little too much. I still have the app downloaded and I get notifications all day long because my friends keep sharing videos that I will never watch.
Remove the app… saying it should be banned because it’s used a lot means you’re unfamiliar of how apps work. Ban email… 80% of the messages are covering your ass vs used for real productivity

I avoided Tic Tok only to get addicted to it on YT shorts and IG reels. I honestly think lots of it can be harmless but it's just so addicting. Avoiding all the thirst traps is hard. But most I do avoid. I just spent maybe 50 minutes watching IG reels. It just wastes so much time and then I honestly forget most of it.
I deleted all my TikTok data. Literally was easier to quit cigarettes, 3 years of my life down the drain. I do not miss it, these other apps are addictive enough. I mean I wasn’t even eating or sleeping properly
Well yes, it's designed to be very addictive. The difference between TikTok, IG Reels and YT shorts, is very much visible in the quality of the content. Meaning, the level of filtration and what goal the algorithm has. For TikTok it's more targeted towards profiting ByteDance, YT is more focused on your interests and similar, mostly well received, videos - it's more aimed towards the users already existing interests and will try to serve videos from "reputable channels", while still keeping you on the site. Instagram is somewhere in between and it doesn't have the best algorithm to be honest. But the algorithm usually reflects the Audience, and that says a lot more about the users of TikTok than TikTok itself. Same goes for RUclips ofc. I think it made RUclips a better place, cause it filtered much of the very low quality content out and moved it to TikTok. The thing about how.much data TikTok is gathering is on another page, and it's absolutely unacceptable.
@@vffa You nailed it, “low quality content.” Low quality but highly engaging, not unlike pornography. Fun while you’re using it but ultimately bad for your soul. Speaking of which, there’s a lot of that on TikTok too. And if it’s not directly on there it’s always only a few swipes away
@@vffa please. Yt algorithm is inferior and boring to death. I'm only here mostly while my main phone is charging. Else I'd be on TikTok. I just ordered a phone with a bigger battery which means I'll be on TikTok longer 😀

Tbh banning tiktok would do more good than bad (as a person from India , where it has been banned and has seen the effects, with an even worse behaviours by "tiktokers" online and to some extent offline, and all the other reasons we very well know)
I fully support a TikTok ban. Though probably an alternative would be soon to come, TikTok seems to be horribly addictive for our youth due to the nature of the instantly gratifying short form content, and I would certainly like for this app to go as soon as possible.

my mom downloaded tik tok before me and she got bullied off the platform being called a karen for saying not to leave a baby in shallow water because it could drown. I decided it wasn't worth it, plus almost all of my friends that are addicted to the app are less socially active and procrastinate more. People with talent will find different platforms. When India banned Tiktok, the left liberals in India had raised same concerns that there are people who make living off these apps etc But the government still went ahead and today there are home grown apps which provide platform for same crappy content like dancing to music etc while the ones with talent and who were in edu space have pivoted to RUclips shorts and Insta reels. By and large people found their market. It did a lot of good, people who want shitty entertainment, download apps like chingari etc for it and if I want quick infotainment, I can find it in shorts and insta. Obviously you need to feed the algorithm by constantly searching for productive reels but the algo learns quick
I'm a UT Austin student. The TikTok ban was met with mild annoyance, at the worst. I'm a bit surprised. A lot of people were happy it was banned and I am too, I hope governments continue to ban it across the US and the world.
What I’m really worried about is the fact that if TikTok disappears, then the ‘communities’ will come to RUclips/other popular websites and possibly completely ruin them with cringe/unwanted content. I might be a little harsh, but I feel like this is a real possibility that can affect these platforms for better or for worse.
I'd say it doesn't seem like it could happen but looking at how Twitter was ruined because users from Tumblr flocked into the app after it died out...yeah maybe I'd take that into consideration. But there's already TikTok like contents all because of RUclips shorts.

She would just sing and talk as if she were just mimicking the videos she’s seen. I don’t say this to shame her. I know she experienced a lot of trauma in her life, just as I and many others of our generation have. Due to this trauma, she was at a greater risk of developing social media addiction. She was a year younger than me in school and we briefly dated after we both graduated. She was also alarmingly rude to service staff but now I see how disrespectful social media trends led her to believe that was acceptable and normal behavior. Looking back on our interactions breaks my heart. She wasn’t famous at the time and now she has over 6 million followers on tik tok. She still seems close to her siblings but it seems like they are following in her footsteps. I don’t think we give enough credit to the influences that shape our lives as we grow up and the role they play in our adulthood. I just hope the money she’s making online is being used responsibly and can help her and her family at least buy them security. I pray for her, her family, and truly the rest of my generation. I 100% agree with you. I hated TikTok to begin with mainly because of the whole premise (watching people lip sync and dancing etc.) and how stupid and useless it is. But I hate it even more because I have to deal with it every so often. My niece who's now 10 yrs old has a smartphone (which is too young to have one), and all she does is either playing Roblox, Among Us, or watching TikTok. Literally every single time I see her, she's on her phone. During road trips when she's around, I can hear everything she watches on TikTok. What she watches is not only so annoying, but so downright terrible she sometimes leave one on loop for maybe 3 minutes at most. Being in the same car as her is living Hell. Whenever her phone dies, she complains about it and begs for a charger, and complains again if the chargers not working. I feel like this is the state of kids nowadays, and I don't think it will change anytime soon. If anything it'll just make it all worse for newer generations as long as TikTok continues to stick around. For once, I actually agreed with Trump with banning TikTok in the states 2 years ago (I'm not a Trump supporter). Unfortunately it never happened and continues to this day dominate like never before for the worst.

As someone who can’t use TikTok due to an Auditory disorder I have (it’s Misophonia and triggers are just way to common there) I still think this ban would be a good idea just because of how fast paced the content seems to be, it’s not good for your brain to watch so much so fast and just causes way more harm then good

TikTok used to only have cringe worthy videos, so I just ignored anything related to that app. I’m not a big fan of social media in general and have rather a negative view of them. However, recently, people now use TikTok to post hateful things about another group of people. Actually, I have heard of this trend of women gym goers that go in there, film themselves and the people inside the gym to find men to label as “creeps and pervs” when they didn’t do anything. Other people post racist stuff that they wouldn’t have ever been able to say them out loud in public. People feel like they are protected behind their screens and nothing can happen to them. This is just horrible and disgusting. Now, imagine that these teens and kids that have grown up consuming all these apps during their whole lives will become our future. They will become our next politicians, teachers, doctors, etc. This is going to be so bad.
They cant, google and Facebook are from the USA so they have to abide by us digital privacy laws and they can’t sell your data to China without your consent (or something along those lines). Tiktok is from China so they don’t have to follow all these laws.
There’s one thing here that’s not mentioned, TikTok also collects data on ALL your devices. There’s this one journalist I follow she got her work TikTok banned, but she thought that her personal one was fine cause there was not possible way to find it unless you go in through the data and stuff and sure enough her personal one was banned at the same time too. Also if you think your safe if you delete TikTok, you aren’t which is terrifying
While it is impossible to say that TikTok isn’t designed to keep viewers addicted, I feel like it’s often more the users fault then the app itself… With or without TikTok, some other social media app will pop up anyways.
Everyone’s data is worth something. That’s how ads work. If it wasn’t worth anything, why do companies like Meta, Google and even the Chinese government try to hard to obtain it?
TikTok ban? Addresses a specific instance of a general problem. What's needed is comprehensive data protection law, akin to the EU's GDPR. But fat chance of that happening in the US - lobbyists would kill that off before it was even introduced in congress.
How is that any different than every other social media platform? They all do that. I think their real concern is they don't have control over it, the money it makes, and can't censor what they want censored. For the time being its still one of the most free language platforms, ironically enough.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. its incredibly hypocritical for countries like the US to want to ban Tik-Tok when the NSA does the exact same thing. Shut them both down. Privacy is a basic human right.
I used to have a problem with tik Tok. But I downloaded it to try to grow some of my videos. But when you use it for a while and you personalize your page. You don't really hate the app. You'll always see something your into. And the more you like that content the more the app feeds it to you. But I come to realize how easy it for people to just be stuck scrolling on their phones all day. My family, my friends. Even me at times. I had to start putting the app away. But my main problem now with it is how people are learning the wrong type of information from the app. People lying just so they can get people to belive THEIR beliefs.
Why should tiktok be banned when our own american apps do the same type of tracking not to mention they sell our info to china as well so if anything the U.S. is screwing us all over.
i kind of want tiktok to stay up long enough for some academic research articles to be written about it (so like another year or so for data collection and analysis purposes) because there are a lot of fields (psychology, sociology, anthropology to name a few) that could stand to learn from tiktok as a cultural phenomenon and i’d like to see that research come to fruition before it goes

If Tik tok or what I call mind fryer it would be banned for mental health outcomes of young girls specifically.

Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and RUclips Shorts can all go. What is the problem with RUclips? Banning TikTok is the protection of the minds of the youth. May I also ask what is the problem with the United States?

While using it, there will sometimes be a "People You May Know" suggestion, showing who I should follow. These people would often be old highschool friends or people I havnt seen in a long time. Honestly a ban on tiktok would probably improve our mental health as a country by a significant margin. Let's not stop with TikTok, let's go with Facebook, Twitter, and all the others.
The US isnt happy that their repository for stealing your data (META) has competition... time to suffocate the newest player that threatens their power position.
interesting story before tiktok was banned in india it became the most hated thing among a section of people and on the other side it became the most popular thing among another section of people,,, even all youtubers in india started roasting tiktok's audience and creaters it led to the big RUclips vs tiktok ,, tiktok's ratings went from 4.1 to 1.2 overnight (which is btw the lowest rating possible for these kind of app) ,,tiktok lite - 1.1,,a tiktok roast video became the most liked RUclips video ever (global) but then it was taken down by RUclips then the creator released a diss track in response which once again got a very big no. of likes and views and then after some time tiktok got banned :)
TikTok actually is being used to organize community action aswell as to keep up with recent events on an hour by hour basis rather than day by day

The problem is if Google and Facebook sell our date to China themselves, the TikTok ban won’t necessarily help that much.
I'm pretty sure that would be illegal
@@yogsothoth00Obviously, what are we gonna do sue them? LOL
While it is impossible to say that TikTok isn’t designed to keep viewers addicted, I feel like it’s often more the users fault then the app itself…
With or without TikTok, some other social media app will pop up anyways.

There is always a new app people are addicted too, but people see tiktok as the demon of them all
A Tiktok alternative that steals less your data is good though
I love it how American people think that their data is worth something 😂😂😂

the market determined that
If it isn't then why do these companies go out of their way to get it?
Everyone’s data is worth something. That’s how ads work. If it wasn’t worth anything, why do companies like Meta, Google and even the Chinese government try to hard to obtain it?

TikTok ban? Addresses a specific instance of a general problem. What's needed is comprehensive data protection law, akin to the EU's GDPR. But fat chance of that happening in the US - lobbyists would kill that off before it was even introduced in congress.
I hate excessive ads of the same brand. The more I see what TikTok is in RUclips, the more offensive I feel about this app.
Finally, I can see world peace coming.
Oh yes.
How is that any different than every other social media platform? They all do that. I think their real concern is they don't have control over it, the money it makes, and can't censor what they want censored. For the time being its still one of the most free language platforms, ironically enough.
RIGHT! This is what freaking social media app. They might as well ban all social media if their concerns are truly data leaks
Finally. Inner peace. I can't wait the day tiktok will be banned
Yes Tiktok banned is required
Why should tiktok be banned when our own american apps do the same type of tracking not to mention they sell our info to china as well so if anything the U.S. is screwing us all over.
i kind of want tiktok to stay up long enough for some academic research articles to be written about it (so like another year or so for data collection and analysis purposes) because there are a lot of fields (psychology, sociology, anthropology to name a few) that could stand to learn from tiktok as a cultural phenomenon and i’d like to see that research come to fruition before it goes
i don't know what's worse, millions of people using tiktok or a president of a country using it
