Even Grant thought Peggy was outta order
Grant stood up to Peggy and made sure that Mark got his pint at the Vic
The fact that Barbara Windsor was so uncomfortable doing these scenes and yet still gave her 100% in them - it showed what a strong asset she was to EastEnders. Yeah, Peggy was vile in these scenes, but Barbara’s acting skills made it believable.
This was one of the most distressful storylines to watch as I felt so bad for Mark. But the storyline was played amazingly and Peggy deserved a punch, not a slap. Kudos for this storyline. Very important message
What a brilliant scene. Back in the days when the show didn't pull any punches and was authentic and intense.
LOL even Grant knew to not make Pauline mad XD
Barbara Windsor admitted later she hated the way Peggy treated Mark in this storyline
Exactly its Peggy not Barbara who's doing this. People seem to forget it's a character not actually them.
@@abbieroseholden4174 absolutely, she was even once quoted as feeling awful about these scenes because one of her closest friends had died of AIDS around the same sort of time, plus a lot of her fanbase from the Carry On days began deserting her as (unfortunately) some people couldn’t/can’t discern that she was only acting, so I completely agree with you. I admit that I despised Peggy during this period as well, but I still loved Barbara.
Don't blame Pauline for slapping her!
I love Peggy but she was out of line for judging Mark the way she did. I’m glad she finally saw sense and made peace with him before they both died.
@@midnightstar1996Barbara hated doing scenes like this
Two unforgettable characters!
Pauline and Sharon always owned Peggy. Quite ironic that Den did the same with Phil.
I remember Pauline giving her a good clip round the ear just before her character died, I think Peggy went too low by having a go about Arthur. Then there was that New Years bust up when Pauline threw a bunch of sandwiches at her after screaming “do you know what Peggy Mitchell you’re filth, you had a villain for a husband, villains for sons and a daughter who’s a slapper, so you think I look down my nose at you, well you bet I do”. Hahahaha
Peggy is such as a Bully ,I can see where Phil and Grant get there Bully boy behaviour from with a Mum like that .
Richard Charles they are the best family
@@leahcutts832 ewww
They got it from their dad Eric Mitchell.
@@leahcutts832 imagine thinking the Mitchells are the best family lol
Can't believe how nasty Peggy was in this scene!
Most of the original cast from EastEnders were also in Grange Hill
Very true,, Angie was defo the best landlady , she knew how to handle the punters without shouting at them like Peggy and was the life and soul of the Vic
I wish I were old enough to remember Angie, I just watch her in these clips and she was fantastic.
Peggy is such a Bully and I can see where Phil and Grant get there Bully Boy ways from with a Mum like that.
Peggy needed one or two more slaps really
The mum paoiopu houopy no houopy Joe ksy houopy fouoo popppp. Poopp
I would've wiped the square with Peggy mouthy cow!
@@zaramariadixon5035 i know thinks she knows everything mitchells are perfect
Yep - she's full on 😂
Dramatic Theme Tune Coming Up.
@powerspyin2 The character Peggy represented brilliantly the fears, prejudices and igorance that surrounded the disease then. Barbra Windsor was truely amazing in this.
Peggy is so cruel and so ignorant. Wow. I miss Mark.
Very ignorant
We knew next to nothing about AIDS back then, as the death toll rose fear ruled.
This was iconic.
I love Pauline in this she certainly gave Peggy what for
Peggy’s head moves before she gets slapped 😆
That's why I love eastenders
Lol Peggy sure knew how to look after her customers
Some damn good acting
wow. none of them are left on the show. it was so good back then.
very true, shows what a talented actress she is when she is that convincing!!
Best feud these two really done a good job
Peggy: What the hell ya looking at?
Me: A old woman with bushy hair who an 70 year old woman with a strawberry blonde hair
Lmao nelly making a swift exit 😂
Tiffany was disgusted as she new the facts
Good on you Pauline
peggy had it coming
Three classic characters at their best. Pauline defending her family, Peggy throwing accusations without any evidence and Grant playing the incredulous straight man.
Classic.
One of my favourite moments
2:23 "😠we’ll, what the ell you lookin at!"
i felt sorry for Mark
Love esstenders 😃😃😃😃😃
Despite the harrowing subject matter, easily one of EastEnders best storylines- everyone here is on fine form and the conflict between Peggy and Pauline was never better portrayed. Ultimate kudos and thanks to Todd McCarthy as Mark who had to become a spokesperson for everyone who was ever treated as badly as his character was because of their HIV status.
Apparently she wanted to do the scene where she bars Mark in just one take due to her own personal experiences.
Brilliant drama 😃😃😃
Goodness, poor old Mark had a hard life
he ran away from home when he was 16 - then he was a real bastard.
Then in 1990, he came back as the kindest man in the world, then he contracts HIV 2 years later :(
she played it dam good tho
Ha I Love it YOU ARE MISTAKEN . That awesome line. If you swim in the sewer you catch something and Mark has. Quite sad in a way how he is so badly treated. Now we want the speech that mark gives
Poor Mark!
“Druggies in our pub” she would of said my pub when they were drug deals happening that occurred when the carters took over
Peggy was very ignorant here.
Peggy did change but she was very rude and a bully in this sense but great acting from Barbra and wendy
I would have walked out with Mark
Yay Peggy's coming back for the live episodes !!!!!!!!'mm😊😊❤️❤️
That slap needed to be a 1000 times harder
I hated Peggy in this scene.
That is absolutely dreadful if people do that sort of thing painting nasty language on walls for people they don't like. They need a damned good slap.
No, it showed some of the degree of the ignorance and abuse that people with AIDS/HIV had to experience in the early days, this was 1990’s.
@MeBenHalpin Thanks for telling me about that site, mate. I will check it out. I do remember seeing a clip where she slapped Kathy after she dared to challenge her. Also when Ange got angry, boy, did she get angry. Peggy wouldn't have stood a chance against her, no way.
Loved seeing Tiffany’s latent disapproval of Peggy’s bigoted ignorance, it was all very nuanced, which made it all the more potent, she practically nearly didn’t even serve her.
Less than 6 months later Peggy sure enough came crying sorry when she, herself, got ill didn’t she.
Thing is, the biggest thug in that family weren’t Grant or Phil, it was Peggy hahahaha, she was the biggest bruiser of them all, aaawww I do miss her sometimes.
Aw I loved Barbara Windsor She was such a sweetheart she was in carry on films chittychitty bang bang and EastEnders were she played Peggy Mitchell Peggy died in 2015 for drug overdose Barbara died 2020 with Alzheimer's disease RIP Barbara Windsor
@MeBenHalpin Yep, you got that right. I heard Sue accused Ange once of flirting with Ali and I'll bet she had a go at the cafe owner there and then as well. BTW can you give me the address of that site where you found all those clips? I'd love to go on it. I tried by googling 'Eastenders - Queen Of Soap' but couldn't track it down.
Thats the flith we want to see the back off in this community. Lol peggy what about, Murderer's, junkys, bullies, namely the Mitchell's. Brilliant acting all round there. Eastenders at its best there.
I loved Wendy's slaps
lol @ pauline 0:49 "SHE HAD, CANCER!"
It's sad that Peggy left :(
Grant is quite right
@MeBenHalpin Better still, I would have loved to see Peggy versus Angie who was a proper Walfordian through and through.
Who's Stand By Your Son.
Well then, you can see where Phil gets it from..
because she spoke about it in an interview once.
GOD I miss Wendy Richard
oh lol
lmao what a good comment
Mark was brilliant
Soap
She's lucky Peggy didn't smash her
Peggy was in the wrong
@@traciemarsh3288 I agree with that she's not my favourite at all
And how the hell would that dwarf smash her!? 🤦🏼♂️
I remember watching this and wondered why Grant and Phil didn't do anything when their mother got slapped in the face even though she was being out of order here😂
how do you know
@jtack19791 It is so tense. Do you watch it on BBC America?
hi somebody xxxxxxxxxxxx
Hi xxxxxxxxx
just telling what i read!!
I miss Peggy on EE.
Phew! That was tough to watch! Ironically, Peggy was a sweet caring woman, and Pauline ended up being the one who had little tolerance. She used to refer to Sonia as "the lesbian", as if that were something to be ashamed of. If you just started watching EE from here, you'd HATE Peggy. Stay tuned. Peggy does not remain the ignorant woman portrayed here. She and Marc became friends by the time all was said and done. She even made amends with Sharon. Funny how this show evokes such strong emotions. It's excellent at tackling social issues.
This
She was good
that was a weak slap
But we'll deserved
Peggy may have been a more likeable character than Pauline, but this is the scene where Pauline was in the right and Peggy was in the wrong here.
Pauline vs Peggy
If you want a larf watch it with the captions on.
@ERstat77 Yes, she certainly did hate doing this. After the storyline ended, she went out and got drunk.
I swear barbara windsor said danny la rue got into a fight at Clacton pier over this whole peggy aids phobia storyline
shocking,yukky
@ERstat77 She certainly did. She said herself that this was a personal thing to her. When she did the scenes with Todd Carty, she would always pull him aside and would say to him "Sorry, this is Peggy." Barbara also received some very nasty hate mail due to it.
Peggy was only speaking truthfully in not too much of a bad way at all.
@MeBenHalpin Oh you better believe it. Angie would have given her hell.
Ha

Peggy was bang out of order, shame on her.
1:29
0:55 bit rude of Grant to say it to his own mom. However he is quite right.
Johnno9989 Agreed. Someone needed to step in, and Grant did. Just because she was his mother, she wasn't always right!
Peggy was alot ruder thsn grant.. He was right mum or not she was out of order
Peggy is just really angry
Janine must have an iron cheek!
@Professor6871 Yes, indeed. :)
Not nice to be insulting a person with aids. Peggy was very horrible
At least Peggy realised her mistake and apologised. I think that she was only acting by society in the 1990s but as society changed and things were not so cruel, she changed with society and tolerated it. Peggy was not a bully she was just acting as society did in the those days! Peggy now tolerates it! SHE IS NO BULLY!!!!!!!!!
''Peggy was not a bully she was just acting as society did in the those days!''
alot of society still acts this way, i love how people blab on about how the world is all accepting in 2016-it is far from it.
